Hello people,
Please your help is really needed. Am a graduate of management from university of Nigeria nsukka Enugu campus. At the moment I applied for a second degree in university of Alberta for a second degree in business economics. Admission has been granted but am skeptical I may be denied visa when I have to apply for a study permit. Please advice me should i apply for study permit or permanent residency to avert any possibility of visa denial. Over 5years work experience in personnel management. School begins by 1st sept 2017. This will allow me to study and work in canada while I get grounded with the vast Canadian culture and economic environment.

Try and give full details u applied for undergraduate admission to what course huh The truth is going for a second bachelors is not frowned upon really, inasmuch as you can explain to the VO clearly and u equivocally how the degree would be of benefit to you, either at your current job or in any venture.

My question is, why not a Master's degree in your proposed course of study huh Anyways till you give complete and full info, no one can give you complete and detailed advice
Thanks for your question and urgent reply. I applied for business economics major and computer science minor.

Now here you have the issue!

Undergraduate-Chemical engineering

Work experience/current activity - bank

Proposed program-Chemical engineering.

Like we often mention here, the proposed program MUST reflect addition to CURRENT activity. In his case, he hasn't been working as a chemical engineer but in a financial institution. The clearly is no need for a master degree in chemical engineering as 4 years is good enough to have a career in the banking industry.

If he finished his degree in chemical engineering recently, he probably would have had a good chance of an approval as it is an advancement of what he studied academically and his purpose would be considered a pure academic exercise.

Your friend's profile demands a PROFESSIONAL advancement with his intended program and not his undergraduate study. It will clearly show that a master degree will add to his current career and this also will show career progression and advancement. It is convincing this way that he is a genuine student.

So it's either he goes for a program in his role in the bank or show other achievements(research, journals, conferences etc) in chemical engineering since he long left school that will show that a master in chemical engineering is going to significantly help him moving forward in his current endeavour.

Untill he really shows he needs the master of chemical engineering, i'm afraid, he may likely still get refused for purpose of visit if he apply with the master of chemical engineering admission.
Good day Austinpee.
I guess my issue perhaps might be close to the above problem. Presently am a graduate of university of Nigeria nsukka ,business management. I have also managed a hotel and have a vast ict knowledge as i was network administrator and hardware engineer for over 3 years. But then I applied for an undergraduate course in Canada with admission offered to me already. But reading through this it feels my application for study permit will be denied since i have a degree in Nigeria already. Presently I have not applied for the study permit but my aim is to avoid any reasons for visa denials. Please advise on what's best to do regarding the application. Thanks.
