Kenechukwu Ofomah Awka Despite the life imprisonment sentence slammed on the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu on Thursday by the Federal High Court, Abuja, Igbo Youth Leaders and Stakeholders Assembly has described the judgement as a welcome development. The trial judge, Justice James Omotosho had sentenced Nnamdi Kanu to life imprisonment on counts 1, 4, 5 and 6, bordering on terrorism. On court 3, Kanu was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment without an option of fine, while on count 7, he got 5 years imprisonment without an option of fine. Reacting to the judgement in an exclusive interview in Awka, the leader of Igbo Youth Leaders and Stakeholders Assembly, Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu expressed gladness that finally there is a judgement on the matter, which will open the room for other developments. According to him, the continued detention of Mazi Kanu without trial over the years had kept people of the Southeast in perpetual mental torture and belief that they are not regarded in Nigeria. “The judgement passed on Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is a welcome development because after a long time, the Judiciary has finally heeded to the yearning of our people concerning the injustice meted against Mazi Kanu for being on awaiting trial without justice and judgement. “Today, there is judgement on that matter, and no matter how that judgement looks, there is room for appeal. Also, justice has been served,” he said. Okpalaezeukwu, however, noted that the judgement has given the President the avenue and platform to proceed with granting Mazi Kanu pardon. He said, “Now, political solution can be applied because it is not regular for a matter that is before the court to be decided outside the court. There couldn’t have been the possibility of a political solution or presidential pardon for a matter that is in court, yet to be decided. “Therefore, the judgement is a welcome development, and we are not expecting any appeal because we have a strong belief that there will be a political solution.” On the comportment of Kanu during trial and whether the right lessons have been learned, the Igbo youth leader noted that emotions are always unstable during such situations. He acknowledged that Kanu is only a human being who is not immune to mistakes, noting that what is important is a political solution to the whole challenge which Ndigbo face. On the fact that Kanu refused to open his defense during trial, Okpalaezeukwu said it has made the hope for a political solution more imminent. “One of the viable ways to address the issue is to drift towards national healing for national security and peace. Healing comes first, because indeed there are wounds. “We call the president under whose watch Nigeria is being tossed in the waves of so many challenges to brace for the challenge. We pray that God will make a way for Ndigbo in the matter and that the cause of the nation shall prevail. “We call for absolute political solution to the hydraheaded socio-economic and political issues in Nigeria, and not limited to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB,” he noted.

Kenechukwu Ofomah Awka Leaders of various Igbo youth groups and organizations, under the aegis of Igbo youth leaders and stakeholders, have expressed concerns that the silent war against Ndigbo may not have ended, given the continued exclusion of the region from national largesse and friendly dispositions of the Federal Government. The group expressed the concern after their emergency meeting in Awka, Anambra State Capital on Thursday, on the state of affairs in the Southeast and the handling of the case of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Rights activist, Omoyele Sowore has been mobilising for a protest scheduled for 20th October, 2025 in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, to demand the release of the IPOB, leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu Addressing a World Press Conference in Awka, the Igbo Youth leaders and stakeholders expressed their solidarity and support for the conveners of the planned October 20 peaceful protest o demand the release of Kanu, noting that they have been making the call for Kanu’s release for a long time now. They called on Ndigbo, home and abroad, to ensure absolute proper conduct of themselves so as not to fall victim of any unforeseen circumstances, insisting that Mazi Kanu will not want any innocent blood to be shed on his behalf. The acting National Youth Leader of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu, who spoke on behalf of the Igbo youth leaders, said they see the development as a National action against injustice, calling on other ethnic regions and all lovers of justice, to join the demand for Kanu’s unconditional release. Commending the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, the Governors of Igbo Extraction and other notable leaders and stakeholders, both dead and alive, for their commitment to the relative peace in south east, through their several calls for the release of Kanu, the Igbo youths urged them to sit up and do more on the matter, by putting more pressure on the Federal Government to take the needful action. “With the establishment of the South East Development Commission, SEDC, we thought that the civil war is over, but with recent realities, we are convinced that the cold war is still on, ranging from social and economic sabotage, outright exclusion of Ndigbo from National privileges and benefits. “We call on the Federal Government to extend its recent good disposition to Ndigbo by granting amnesty to the agitators and releasing Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. This is in view of the fact that the Federal Government has not been able to convict him of the charges against him. We advocate for Kanu's release as a political solution to the numerous security challenges in Ala Igbo,” Okpalaezeukwu said. On his part, the National Vice President of the National Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Ambassador Innocent Nduanya emphasized that the World Press Conference became imperative to remind Igbos, especially the youths, of the need to be conscious and not allow themselves to be used to perpetrate any act that may cause chaos or violence. “What we are saying is that people should participate but not constitute nuisance during the protest. If you are sitting at home, do so in peace. “A lot has been said about observing sit-at-home on that day, and we believe Igbos are now more wiser,” he added. Also speaking, a former Senate President, National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Mazi Chuks Okafor said the unconditional release of Kanu from detention holds the key to sustainable peace in the Southeast, calling on President Bola Tinubu to listen to the cries of the people and do the needful.

Criticisms of Enugwu-Agidi PG baseless, Amaku defends Hon Onuorah's transformative leadership Elochukwu Benjamin Awka Ive Dinma (CN Amaku) has hailed the leadership of Hon. Ebuka Onuorah, President-General of the Enugwu-Agidi Brotherly Union (EBU), as a transformative force, countering recent criticisms in an open letter by Prince (Dr.) Chinedu Ikeanyi to the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs. Ikeanyi’s letter alleged crisis and mismanagement, but Dinma argues that Onuorah’s tenure has ushered in an unprecedented era of development for Enugwu-Agidi. The administration has delivered major infrastructural projects, including the construction and rehabilitation of the Enugwu-Agidi Junction to Ugwu-Ogwu Road, a vital artery that has boosted intra-town mobility, commerce, and aesthetics after years of neglect. The Mkpasalaku Bridge, another milestone, addresses critical safety and accessibility issues, particularly during the rainy season, showcasing Onuorah’s ability to secure funding and engineering expertise. The transformation of the Enugwu-Agidi Secretariat Complex into a modern hub for governance reflects a commitment to professionalism, facilitating efficient administration and community engagement. These projects represent long-term capital investments poised to serve the town for decades, solidifying its role in the Awka Capital Territory. Beyond infrastructure, Onuorah’s leadership has prioritized human welfare, with consistent stipends distributed to indigent residents, providing a lifeline in a tough economy and demonstrating a compassionate, inclusive approach to governance. Onuorah’s political acumen and robust network have enabled him to attract external resources, amplifying the town’s self-development efforts. Dismissing Ikeanyi’s claims of “violence and mayhem” as unsubstantiated, Dinma urges critics to use the EBU Constitution’s grievance channels rather than public appeals that could tarnish the town’s image and distract from its progress. The tangible achievements; roads, bridges, a revitalized secretariat, and welfare programs, stand as undeniable proof of Onuorah’s impact. Dinma calls on the community to unite in consolidating these gains, resisting politically motivated attempts to derail a demonstrably successful administration that has positioned Enugwu-Agidi as a model of community progress.

WOW Africa intensifies call for protection of Girls’ Rights at Annual Schools Debate Uchenna Johnson Awka The Worldwide Organisation for Women (WOW) Africa has commemorated the 2025 International Day of the Girl with its Annual Schools Debate, calling for more decisive actions from stakeholders to secure a purposeful and empowering future for Nigerian girls. The historic event, held at the ASUBEB Hall in Awka, the Anambra State capital, brought together students from sixteen secondary schools, women and girls’ rights advocates, and members of the WOW Africa team from across the country. In her address, Chief (Mrs.) Carol Ugochukwu, Founder/ CEO of WOW Africa, identified gender-based violence and gender inequality as persistent challenges confronting young girls. She urged them to pursue quality education and skills acquisition as tools for empowerment and resilience. "Having walked in your shoes many years ago, I understand the complexities and obstacles that come with being a young girl in Nigeria," she said. "This year's theme, 'The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontline of Crisis,' truly reflects the lived realities of Nigerian girls today. While UN agencies are working tirelessly to address these issues globally, you must also play your be part." In a speech read on her behalf by Nwankwo Chinwendu, one of the participating students, Chief Ugochukwu advised girls to remain focused and avoid unhealthy dependencies. "Do not depend on any man, especially internet fraudsters. Stay in safe spaces, unleash your creativity, and trust that God will bless the works of you hands. Dream big, work hard, and you will see your dreams manifest," she added. Chief Ugochukwu commended Attorney Amaka Akudinobi, Executive Director of WOW Africa, and encouraged Team WOW to sustain their advocacy for girls’ empowerment and gender equality across Nigeria. In her keynote address, Professor Antonia Ezeugo of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam, underscored the importance of recognising and promoting the full spectrum of girls’ rights, particularly education and protection from exploitation. She lamented that many girls remain on the frontlines of crises, facing displacement, abuse, and neglect. According to her, factors such as lack of education, inadequate sex education, and economic hardship exacerbate girls’ vulnerabilities, while self-confidence and critical thinking are key dividends of girls’ education. Earlier, in her opening remarks, Mrs. Ngozi Chukwujekwu, Secretary of WOW Africa and Chairperson of the WOW Debate Committee, described the competition as an annual tradition that nurtures young voices in advocacy. She urged participants to share their ideas and contribute meaningfully to building a brighter future for girls. The engaging debate sessions, moderated by Mrs. Amaka Anekwe and judged by members of the Anambra State Debate Team, culminated in Prince Memorial High School, Onitsha, emerging champions of the 2025 WOW Africa Debate. Kenneth Dike Secondary School, Awka, and Community Secondary School, Oraifite, took second and third places respectively. Prizes and medals were presented to the winners, while all participating schools received honouraria. A special artistic presentation by students of Capital City Secondary School, Awka, further highlighted the day’s theme — “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls at the Frontline of Crisis.”

Agwuzani family, Onitsha possesses ancestral land after 15 years of oppression by land grabbers, hails Soludo's Intervention Kenechukwu Ofomah Awka Members of the Agwuzani family of Umuaroli village, Onitsha in Onitsha North Local Government Area of Anambra State on Tuesday, trooped in their numbers joyously, into their ancestral land known as the Ogwugwu Agbu land, after over 15 years of being denied access by land grabbers. The family members during the visit to the land, chanted solidarity songs in appreciation of Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, for intervening in the matter and rescuing them from the hands of their oppressors. The jubilant family members were accompanied to the land by security operatives from the state government, due to fear of attack by the land grabbers and some security personnel allegedly on their payroll, who had prevented the family from entering the land. Addressing newsmen during the visit to the land, the Diokpa/head of the Agwuzani family, Comrade Sunday Ogoazi, disclosed that the ancestral land measures over 1,000 hectares, from which they gave the government two-thirds of it and they were compensated. According to him, it was the portion that they were compensated for, which land grabbers had encroached on, resulting in litigation. “When we proceeded to court, the court directed that no one should enter the land until judgement is given. “Last year, the court eventually gave its judgement, but when we come here, they will use security to chase us away, threatening to kill us. “Now, after the judgement, we wrote the governor with the entire judgement details from the courts, to come and assist us to access our land. “The governor, in his magnanimity, answered us and intervened and gave us respite over those who oppress us. “That is why we are here to appreciate the governor for rescuing us from the hands of the land grabbers, who have been threatening and oppressing us. “It was so unfortunate that the security men here have been working with the land grabbers, providing them security and preventing us, the original owners of the land from going to our ancestral land. They mounted signposts and were selling our land as estate. How can someone from Ebonyi or Imo state, all of a sudden, have lands in Anambra to sell as estate? “That’s why we are here to show our appreciation to the governor. It was his timely intervention that salvaged our situation,” the elated Diokpa noted. Also speaking, the treasurer of the family, Elder Azubuike Ejiamike revealed how before the coming of the Europeans, their forefathers were farmers and farmed on the ancestral lands. He, however, noted that when they saw the benefits of Western education, they embraced it and gave the land to one Awasi Ejikeme from Nkpor, to be farmed, after whose death, the children continued farming on the land. “Now, about 15 years ago, when we wanted to enter the land about 15 years ago, there was a misunderstanding between the family members, and we went to court. “Now, after the disagreement was resolved about a year ago, we realised that security men had encroached on the land and were selling our lands. “That was when we reached out to the governor, and he showed that he is a god-loving man. This intervention of his will remain indelible in our lives,” he posited. On his part, another member of the family, and Head, Medical Records Department at the Guiness Eye Centre, Onitsha, Comrade Peter Ogoazi Olisa regretted that the land had for long proved inaccessible to them, as administrations come and go with utopian promises. He expressed delight that today, the Soludo administration has salvaged them from these land grabbers, operating in connivance with vigilante operators, who are masquerading as security people, while running an estate business. “Imagine where a vigilante operative is having an estate in someone’s ancestral land!” he quipped. “This land, the agreement was reached in 1910, with the colonial masters and the land was gazetted. The evidence is still in the archive and we brought it. “When we wrote an SOS message to Governor Soludo, he asked to be allowed to make enquiries, and after the enquiries, he concluded that the land belongs to the Agwuzani family. “He even told the land grabbers to come forward with any evidence, but none of them could prove anything beyond a reasonable doubt. “So, the governor concluded that the land belongs to us and he fostered our smooth takeover of our land by providing us security to enable us to access our land, due to the several threats these land grabbers have made to us. “We are very happy today and we thank the governor for this gesture. “This is evidence of good governance and transparency, which will foster development and public trust in government. “Today, the governor has also provided us pipe-borne water and we see his emergence as governor as a positive development that has impacted Anambra State meaningfully. “We pray that he will continue to provide this kind of leadership to all Anambra people so that the common man can have a say in the society.”

The News Chronicle correspondent in Anambra reports that the training commenced with a formal onboarding process involving digital and manual documentation for the successfully selected trainees, after three months of rigorous processing of nominations, applications, candidates’ response collation and final shortlisting. The Taenprowiz is a total Solution package (a System and Technology) already patented, and it is about the business Goal, investment knowledge, operations work plan, financial literacy, and practical cashflow in the Fish production business. During series of virtual and physical meetings, trainees were taken through the rudiments of the business evolution process, the ideation, the Business Concept formulation involving product or service, customer, value proposition and the distribution channel as well as the basic principles of the Taenprowiz Fish Production Business System and Technology (Computer Operating System). The trainees during the first physical meeting held at the FABDA Office Complex, Awka, learned the first principles, processes and protocols of actualising a functional Table Fish Production Business from the idea stage up to generating the Business Plan. The Managing Director and CEO of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Business Development Agency, FABDA, who is also the Training Co-ordinator, Mr. Emeka Iloghalu said the training is critical in helping the youths understand the concept of Throughput, Inventory and Operating Expense in the Table Fish, Brood Stock and Seed Fish Production Business. “The trainees will also be able to deploy the concept of Throughput in planning for the production operations for the Table Fish Production Business, as well as constrain the production operations work plan with the Cashflow requirements based on the Throughput concept to generate Operations Business Model/Plan “It is also expected to help them produce finance and investment forecast to model the Table Fish Production Business growth path from the very beginning,” he said. Iloghalu noted that the youths, when empowered through the training with skills and protocols of seed fish stocking, fish feeding, fish grading, fish water management and fish harvesting, will be well equipped for immediate employment and engagement in fish business. “Successful Youths will be ready for employment in any standard Table Fish Production Business/Farm, be co-operators in any Co-operative Fish business and can become fish business investors,” Iloghalu enthused. The FABDA boss noted that the ECOWAS Commission is looking forward to using the initiative to increase the population of youths within the ECOWAS region who are engaged in the Fish business and Agribusinesses. This, he noted, is because the blue economy and agricultural sector are strategic sectors that has enormous capacity to create wealth and employment, as well as contribute in resolving the food security question in the region. Iloghalu noted that the FABDA has been on its mandate to drive and industrialize the Fisheries and Aquaculture economy in Anambra, and this falls in line with some strategic targets including to achieve 51 million kg of table fish production per annum for self sufficiency. According to him, that is why they are focused on training the youths on the Table Fish Production business at this stage, using the only current Business Solution for Fish production, which is the TAENPROWIZ Fish Production Business System and Technology. Many of the Youth Trainees expressed joy, happiness and enthusiasm for the privileged to be in the ECOWAS Taenprowiz Fish Production Business Training at this time.

Kenechukwu Ofomah Awka As Nigeria joined the rest of the world to celebrate World Teachers’ Day on Sunday, the 2005 graduating set of Christ the King College (CKC) Onitsha returned to their alma mater to honour the men and women who helped shape their lives. The event, which coincided with the school’s Award and Thanksgiving Day, was filled with emotion, gratitude, and reflection. Twenty years after leaving the college, the alumni came together to celebrate their teachers, give back to the institution, and thank God for His faithfulness over the past two decades. The 2005 set presented the school with a standard table tennis court, new sporting materials, and gym equipment to promote students’ physical development. They also gave cash awards to several of their former teachers, a gesture that drew loud applause from parents, students, and staff members who attended the ceremony. In his keynote address, Dr. Chinonso Ofozoba, a member of the 2005 set and senior academic at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, described Teachers’ Day as a reminder of how educators plant seeds that grow into lasting success stories. “We are where we are today because of the foundation laid by our teachers. “Among us are academics, entrepreneurs, public servants, and industry leaders, all fruits of the dedication CKC instilled in us," he said. The coordinator of the alumni association, Mr. Chukwuemeka Abaikwam, spoke with nostalgia as he presented the cash gifts, recalling how the school anthem’s verse, “May the fame of our college last forever,” guided them through life. “Standing here today brings back memories,” he said. “It’s a joy to return, not just to give back, but to celebrate our teachers, the real heroes of our success.” Abaikwam praised Sir Fidelis Ikeji, the convener of the alumni group, for uniting members since 2019. He also highlighted the group’s ongoing projects, including the ‘One Year, One Millionaire’ initiative, through which members raise one million naira yearly to empower a fellow alumnus. "Over the years, four beneficiaries have become self-sufficient and now contribute to helping others," he said. He added that the group carries out yearly humanitarian visits to orphanages, hospitals, and elderly homes, reflecting lessons learned from their teachers about compassion and service. Receiving the donations, Rev. Fr. Dr. Arinze Celestine Okafor, Principal of CKC Onitsha, commended the alumni for celebrating Teachers’ Day in such a meaningful way. “This gesture honours the teaching profession and shows our students that gratitude is the highest form of learning. “Your teachers will always be proud of you," he said. The event ended in a festive atmosphere, with music, laughter, and heartfelt tributes, a perfect way to mark Teachers’ Day at one of Nigeria’s most respected schools.

Iloenyosi's FA administration capable of transforming Anambra Football Economy- De Gamechanger FC owner, Obi Kenechukwu Ofomah Awka The management of Nationwide League One, NLO One side, De Gamechanger Football Club, believes with the pace at which grassroots football is developing under the General Chikelue Iloenyosi’s Anambra State Football Association, the state will soon become a model for amateur football development in Nigeria. The Executive Chairman of the club, Surveyor Obi Emeka Chukwudi gave the view in an exclusive chat with The News Chronicles correspondent in Awka, Anambra State capital on Tuesday, on the state of sports in Nigerian and the various states. Obi, who identified grassroots football development as central to the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF’s bold agenda to explore the potentials that abound in the round leather object to create wealth and job opportunities for youths in the country, regretted that unfortunately, many subnational governments are still not paying attention to the area. He maintained that no matter the amount of resources invested in making the professional league viable, without conscious effort to build up the amateur league that feeds the professional league, it will be efforts in futility. The Gamechanger boss noted that the series of football competitions organized by the Iloenyosi’s administration for grassroots football talents have yielded budding talents, who would never have been able to secure an opportunity on the bigger platform. He also said with the guidance of Iloenyosi, a former Nigerian international, a lot of amateur clubs have been provided the needed guidance to develop their structures, as well as get linked up with scouts, both within and outside Nigeria, to offtake their products. “I read a lot of things on the internet against the present FA administration in Anambra State and I shudder. The truth is that the football sector in Anambra State has not had it this good for a very long time. “The various grassroots competitions organized by the Anambra FA under Iloenyosi and those they supported individuals to put together are evidences of growth in our grassroots football sector. “With his wealth of experience in the football business, Iloenyosi has shown that football, if properly managed can contribute significantly to the economy of a state. “He had also attracted the National FA cup games in the state. It was also through his efforts that the under-17 scouting games were played in Anambra, which was done by the coach of the National under-17 team, Manu Garba. Under his leadership also, the state was able to host the NLO One Southeast games, many NPFL and NNL games as well as many other scouting programmes,” he noted. Obi, who is also the Anambra State Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, insisted that the various state governments across the country should begin to understudy the Anambra FA’s grassroots football model for onward replication elsewhere. This, he noted, will ensure that no state is left behind in the nation’s collective effort to make football a viable income earner for youths. The NYCN boss also acknowledged the All Stars tournament for persons above 40 years, and other football engagements that the FA has made an annual competition, with support from partners, providing opportunity for leisure and relaxation for football lovers and creating avenue for wealth creation for businesses. Obi passed a vote-of-confidence on the Iloenyosi administration, noting that the support of all football stakeholders in the state is crucial for him to continue to achieve more for the state.

Unite to secure Igboland, Pursue collective agenda, Igbos urged at 2025 Igbo Day Uchenna Johnson Awka Igbos have been called upon to commit to supporting ongoing efforts to end the insecurity ravaging parts of Igboland, and forge a united front to be able to remain relevant in Nigeria’s polity. The call was made during the 2025 Igbo Day Celebration, organized by the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Awka, Anambra State Capital. The celebration witnessed attendance by delegates from the seven Igbo-speaking states, including Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, Delta, and Rivers state. It had commenced with a Juma’at prayer at the Central Mosque in Awka last Friday, and a thanksgiving mass on Sunday, before proceeding to an Igbo Day lecture later same day. The Igbo day celebration was used to also recognize and celebrate the sacrifices of past Igbo heroes, as well as those who were massacred on the 29th of September, 1966 in Kano, and those who died during the Nigerian civil war of 1967 to 1970. Speaking at the celebration held at the Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka on Monday, Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo acknowledged that such celebration was worth celebrating to serve as a reminder to Igbos, who are living, that society recognizes and honours sacrifices. Soludo, who said the day should be a reminder to Ndigbo of the need to shun anything that will bring another war to the region, regretted that those craving for war never saw war and do not know the implications. He also called for deep introspection by Igbos on who they are- an itinerant people, whose prosperity lies in their ability to move around and explore opportunities. “Igbos as an itinerant tribe cannot be an intolerant people. Our future lies in having a prosperous homeland, but also in being able to move around the world to explore opportunities. “Igbos are too large and cannot be confined to one geographical region. Igbos need Nigeria and Nigeria needs Igbos. We are major stakeholders in the Nigerian project,” he noted. Soludo regretted that in trying to agitate, Igbos have turned the guns on themselves, insisting that majority of those responsible for the insecurity in the Southeast as at today, are mainly Igbos. “Igbos need to discuss their future in an important way. Our bushes and forests were taken over by criminals pretending to be agitators for Ndigbo. The sit-at-home is not in our own best interest. “This event should usher in a new debate on what the future holds for Igboland. Ohaneze must stand and condemn the criminals in the bushes. They are not serving Igbos but are killing Igbos. More Igbos are dying in the hands of criminals in the bushes than those killed during the war. “We need social and moral rebirth. We must go back to the values of Ndigbo. I am eager that we can build a new Igboland, where life is valued and prosperity is guaranteed,” he said. Earlier in his remarks, the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Senator John Azutta-Mbatta, represented by the Deputy President-General of Ohanaeze, Okey Nwadinobi, said the theme of the event, ‘Ndigbo Onye Aghana Nwanne ya’ (Be your brother’s keeper) is central to the efforts by the organization’s efforts to secure a united Igbo nation. According to him, it compels the people to do what is right by themselves, in building an Igboland that will not be a desolate land but a destination choice. Azutta-Mbatta, while noting that Igbos have done a lot for Nigeria, said the people deserve the best treatment in the country. He also urged Ndigbo to support a united Nigeria that cares for everyone The Chairman on the occasion, and Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, Senator Ned Nwoko, represented by his Senior Special Assistant, Ogbueshi Godfrey Odogwu, observed that Igbos have attained enviable heights in various spheres of human endeavors, attracting applause and recognition to the race. He however, noted that despite the plethora of the achievements, the Igbos have not even scratched the surface of their potential, adding that the theme was well thought out to affirm the people's resolve to continue to be one another's keeper, in recognition of the strong bond of Igbo identity. Nwoko urged Ndigbo to fight to protect their land , culture and tradition, adding Igbos must promote law and order to be able to achieve their manifest destiny. He urged the Ohanaeze and the rest of Igbo nation, to support ongoing efforts to achieve the creation of Anioma State, as the 6th state of the southeast region and the 37th state of the federation, to end decades of marginalization and injustice against the Anioma people. “The actualization of the quest of Anioma State will amend the long overdue imbalance in the Nigerian regional structure. “Through our dogged efforts, the Bill for the creation of Anioma State has the support of over 90 out of the 109 Senators in the National Assembly, and we are now looking forward to the passage of the bill and a referendum to follow. “We plead with Ohanaeze to support this just cause,” Nwoko pleaded. In his remarks, the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee for the event and Anambra State President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu expressed appreciation to all who supported the event, noting that the unity of Ndigbo is non-negotiable. Okpalaezeukwu commended the leadership of the Ohanaeze for the new direction it is taking in unifying all Igbos, describing it as the way to go, if Ndigbo must gain relevance in the socio-political sphere of the country. Performances by various masquerades and cultural troupes added glamour to the event, while the conferment of the title of ‘Oku nyelu ife’ (The Lamb that brought light), was the highpoint.

Uchenna Benjamin Awka Leaders of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN in Anambra State have endorsed the second term election bid of Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, insisting that he has set a record in 21st century governance. The Anambra NYCN leaders firmly declared their support for the governor, saying his re-election bid is in the best interest of the continued growth and development of the state. In a joint statement by past State Chairmen of the NYCN, the Anambra youths expressed the readiness of the state to also welcome any legitimate investor seeking investment opportunities to Anambra State. Among the Anambra NYCN leaders who signed the statement were the pioneer state chairman, Chief Obumnike Asuzu (1996-2006), Dr Nwabufo Nwankwo (2006-2013), Comrade Frank Maduka (2013-2017) and the present State Chairman, Comrade Surveyor Obi Emeka Chukwudi. Weighing in on some other developments going on in the Council, the Anambra youth leaders rejected a proposed Tenure Elongation Congress slated to hold in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State later this month. The congress, scheduled to hold on the Sunday, 20th September, 2025, seeks to extend the official age bracket of youths within the NYCN to 40 years, from the subsisting legislation which puts at 18 to 35 years. The tenure elongation attempts have been greeted by criticisms from vary quarters, describing it as desperate attempts by forces within the Council’s hierarchy to remain in the saddle of affairs. The Anambra youths reaffirmed their endorsement that the official age bracket of youths within the Council remains 18 to 35 years. They rejected any form of tenure elongation or amendment seeking to extend the age limit to 40 years. The Anambra youths congratulated the outgoing NYCN President, Amb. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, on the successful completion of his tenure. “Sukubo was first sworn in at the Port Harcourt National Congress in 2018, and was later re-elected at the Calabar Congress in 2021. “We therefore, congratulate him on the successful completion of his tenure as NYCN National President. “We identify with the efforts of critical Nigerian youth stakeholders, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, to prevent tenure elongation and restore sanity in the Council. “As a matter of principle, we cannot endorse the proposed Bayelsa Tenure Elongation Congress, scheduled to hold on the 21st of September, 2025 in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State,” the statement said. The Anambra Council welcomed all concerned NYCN stakeholders to Anambra State on the 26th of September for constructive engagement and progressive dialogue.

I distributed Wheelbarrows, Farm Implements to empower Farmers, not to encourage Wheelbarrow pushing- Federal Lawmaker, Okafor Johnson Uchenna Awka The member representing Aguata Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Engr Dom Okafor has condemned what he described as a sponsored attempt to mischievously thwart the laudable intents of a well-thought agricultural empowerment program he hosted for his constituents recently. On Tuesday, at a ceremony held at Ekwulobia, the Aguata Council headquarters, which attracted traditional rulers, presidents-general of communities, women leaders, and youth leaders, the lawmaker distributed wheelbarrows and other farm implements including machetes and hoes to select farmers drawn from across communities in the constituency. However, the distribution had been greeted with criticisms by some quarters, most of whom accused the lawmaker of using the empowerment to encourage young people to go into wheelbarrow pushing. But, in an exclusive chat with The News Chronicle correspondent at Ekwulobia, the lawmaker, Engr Okafor, explained that the distribution was part of a comprehensive plan targeted at revolutionizing Agriculture in Aguata constituency. According to him, it was a deliberate empowerment targeted at the downtrodden, in order to advocate the return to Agriculture, being one of the cardinal points in his campaign manifesto. He revealed that shortly after he came into office in 2023, he distributed palm, cassava, maize, and yam seedlings to Aguata farmers, and followed it up with fertilizers. These gestures, he noted, were in recognition of the challenge of food insecurity facing the nation, and the need for families to refrain from depending solely on what they buy from the markets, to feed. “This was one of the reasons I shared these farm implements: to emphasize the need for our people to go back to the farm. A lot of families can actually be self-sufficient from what they get from their farms, and as such, save the huge amount of money they spend on buying food. “I could also see that a lot of people were drifting away from our traditional peasant farming, whereby people can harvest a lot of things from their backyards. Aguata people have a challenge of very small land mass and that is why we must explore the opportunities provided by this peasant farming practice to provide food for our families. “This distribution was borne out of a needs assessment I conducted with the support of the leaders and stakeholders of the 14 communities that make up Aguata Constituency,” he explained. Okafor expressed happiness that the feedback coming from the community leaders on the distribution was positive and promised to ensure that those left out would still be given opportunity to benefit. He, however, expressed disdain that some quarters have politicized the gesture, but said as a grassroots legislator, with a clear understanding of the needs of his people, he will never settle for less. The lawmaker also disclosed that his emergence as the federal lawmaker representing the constituency has brought so many developmental and human empowerment initiatives to the area. “I came prepared to serve our people and will not be distracted. What I am doing is borne out of the needs assessment I conducted with the support of the community leaders and stakeholders. “We have various projects scattered across Aguata Federal Constituency and more are still coming. “We have the classroom block at Igboukwu Central School (completed), a classroom block at Umuona (already completed and commissioned), four classroom block at Aguluezechukwu Secondary School, a two-room class block with solar and complete furniture at Udoka Primary School, Akpo,(ongoing), a six-room class block with complete furniture at Uga (ready for commissioning), and a six-room class block with furniture at Umuchu (to be flagged off soon). “There is also the four-kilometre road in Ekwulobia, which we would be commissioned during the month. The 1.6-kilometre road was commissioned in Igboukwu last month. The road connecting Amesi and Gbiligbo village in Achina will soon be flagged off. “Also, we have commenced the project to light up every community in Aguata Federal Constituency with solar street lights. We have done that of Isuofia, Umuona, Uga, Ugboukwu and Ezinifite. By next week, we will start erecting the poles for other communities. “A lot of my constituents have been assisted to secure federal jobs, while some have been assisted to secure educational scholarships abroad and have been able to travel abroad. “I am a man of action and not given to rhetoric,” Okafor boasted. He urged people of the constituency to disregard the falsehood peddled on social media, assuring them that he will continue to pursue the best bargain for them.

The stakeholders’ validation forum, which also featured strategic advocacy visits, was organized by the Kukah Centre, Secretariat of the National Peace Committee (NPC) under the European Union Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria (EU-SDGN). In the course of the three-day event, stakeholders from Anambra North, Anambra South and Anambra Central Senatorial zones, including community leaders, religious leaders, the INEC, the media, security agencies, and other state and non-state actors took turns to validate findings from a context analysis conducted across the state. This is with a view to fostering their collective buy-in for peaceful and inclusive elections by strengthening trust and joint responsibility. The exercise was also targeted to generate practical recommendations for early warning systems, peace messaging, and stakeholder coordination. Addressing the forum, the Project Manager at Kukah Centre, Barr Asabe Ndahi, observed that the reports raised concerns about voter apathy in Anambra State, occasioned by a lot of factors, including insecurity, lack of trust in the electoral process, among others. She revealed that the forum had helped elicit promises from the stakeholders that they will adequately mobilize their people to participate in the elections. “We observed that there is serious voter apathy and have encouraged all the stakeholders to convince people who are under their spheres of influence to participate, believing that they will play their role in the exercise. “The Kukah centre is the Secretariat of the National Peace Committee. So, while the Peace Committee will be coming to sign the Peace Accord a few days to the elections, we want to do this groundwork, to ensure that before the elections proper, the stakeholders begin to welcome the idea of peaceful and credible elections and play an active role in achieving that. “We are also taking back recommendations from the State to the National Peace Committee as the opinion of stakeholders here, and we believe that these recommendations will be actionable,” she posited. The Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning officer of the Centre, Deborah Obafemi, revealed that the Kukah centre is interested in interventions that continually promote good governance, leadership development, memory preservation and also different human rights. according to her, the Centre wants to its position to support peace-building and peaceful elections as much as it can. In her words, “This process is the beginning of a phase. We will also be having the signing of the Peace Accord as the election draws closer. We also have the election security information hub, responsible for gathering insight and data on election security across Nigeria. “As we round up this forum, we are not just departing. We will also ensure that we continue to have conversations with the stakeholders we have engaged these three days, to identify developments and make inputs towards addressing them. “Overall, the objective is to achieve peaceful and credible Anambra Governorship Election.” In his remarks, the traditional ruler of Ifitedunu in Dunukofia Council Area of the state, Igwe Prof Chukwuemeka Ilouno, observed that laws to drive the peaceful conduct of elections are not in short supply in the country, but said the challenge is with their implementation. He harped on the need for the traditional rulers to be adequately carried along in civic education sensitization activities, as grassroots leaders, so that the people in the communities will be adequately sensitized on what is required of them for society to make progress. For Sir Chuka Nnabuife, who is the Managing Director of the Anambra State Civic and Social Reformation Office of the Governor, ANCISRO, the program aligns with the mandate of the ANCISRO towards sensitizing the citizenry to be alive towards their civic responsibility of participating in the electoral processes that bring about leadership across different levels of governance. He opined that the current political atmosphere in Anambra is that of positive expectation but also that of anxiety, emphasizing the point that stakeholders need to deepen the message of voter education in their localities. A representative of the Disability Community at the event, Miss Chidinma Ajemba, expressed appreciation to the Kukah Centre and the partners for the engagements, which she said have been fruitful in impressing on the stakeholders the need to pursue peace as the election approaches.

Uchenna Johnson Awka Despite invitations extended to them, neither the Governors of the five Southeast States nor their representatives were present on Thursday, when critical stakeholders converged on Awka, Anambra State Capital, to discuss and find solutions to the shrinking civic space in the region. The event was a dialogue session organized by the Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre, RULAAC, under its 2025 Civic Space and Security Project. Titled ‘Voices Unchained: A Journey Through Civic Space in Southeast Nigeria,’ the dialogue is supported by the Fund for Global Human Rights through a Sub-grant from the Action Group on Free Civic Space (AGFCS), and had as it participants, grassroots advocates, legal practitioners, journalists, community leaders, and policy influencers It seeks to engage, educate, and empower stakeholders across the Southeast to strengthen civic space, promote accountability, and protect democratic freedoms. In an opening remarks, the Executive Director of RULAAC, Mr Okechukwu Nwanguma, represented by Mrs Onyinyechi Nwosu said the project builds on the momentum of RULAAC’s 2024 initiative and the documentary ‘Silenced Gongs,’ which gave voice to the lived experiences of individuals, communities, and groups whose rights to speak, organize, and participate in governance have been undermined. He revealed that the dialogue is aimed at providing a platform for open, inclusive conversations about the state of civic space in Southeast Nigeria, highlighting both challenges and opportunities, as well as to screen and reflect on the documentary “Silenced Gongs” as a tool for advocacy, public awareness, and mobilizing action to protect civic freedoms. He also said the event targets to engage key stakeholders, including civil society organizations, media practitioners, lawyers, public officials, and affected communities, in identifying practical strategies for defending freedom of expression, association, and assembly. “We also want to connect victims of civic rights violations with trained pro bono lawyers for potential legal redress and empowerment to pursue justice, and strengthen alliances and networks that can promote accountability, protect human rights defenders, and ensure that democratic space is preserved and expanded. “We are all reminded that civic space is not a gift from the state. It is a fundamental right, guaranteed by law and sustained by the active participation of the people. “We cannot afford to be passive in its defence,” he said. In a presentation, the Director, Institute for Peace, Security and Development Studies (IPSDS), Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof Jaja Nwanegbo noted that the Southeast is historically known for its vibrant intellectual life, entrepreneurial energy, and political consciousness. He cited town hall meetings, market-square debates, campus discussions, church and worship place gatherings, and local newspapers as evidence of safe spaces for opinion-sharing, which reinforce good governance and business confidence. “A Southeast where journalists operate out of fear or where public criticism is met with intimidation is a Southeast that risks economic stagnation and social unrest. “Southeast’s path to a vibrant civic space will not be built solely on paper laws but on the consistent, principled enforcement of those laws and the courage of citizens to claim their voices,” he said. Nwanegbo suggested review and clarification of laws, strengthening judicial remedies, safeguarding of press protections, and strengthening of civic education activities as means of strengthening freedom of expression in the region. During a plenary session, a panelist, Barr Chukwuemeka Okite observed that thinner public debate engenders fewer investigative pieces, reduced oversight where reporters and CSOs fear legal or physical retaliation. This he noted, results in poor youth participation in governance and normalization of the culture of impunity. Also contributing, a legal practitioner, Barr Chekwube Ezekwike noted that the Constitution and supporting legislation like the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) of 2015 and state-level Administration of Criminal Justice Laws (ACJL) provides a robust theoretical foundation for protecting fundamental human rights, including freedom of expression and assembly. She however, observe that the challenge is with the implementation of the laws, with many state actors complicit in the violation of the citizens’ rights.

Official results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, showed that Chief Nwachukwu polled a total of 90,408 votes to defeat his closest rival, Chief Azuka Okwuosa of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 19,812. In Onitsha North Constituency One, Barr Azikiwe emerged winner with 7,774 votes to defeat Mrs. Justina Azuka of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who scored 1,909 votes. Mazi Okpalaezeukwu said the Ohanaeze was delighted to observe how credible, transparent and peaceful the by-elections were across the locations they were held. According to him, the Ohanaeze stance on the exercise stems from the strength of their position as co-observers with a non-governmental organization, Integrity Friends for Truth and Peace Initiative, accredited by the INEC for the exercise. He commended the electoral umpire for their early deployment of personnel and materials to the various polling stations, which ensured that the voters who turned out for the elections were not disappointed. “We must commend the Government of Anambra State led by His Excellency, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo (Dike Udo) and the Security Agencies especially the Police, DSS, NSCDC, Navy, Army etc, for the safe and secure environment that begot the most peaceful and credible by-election that is widely accepted by all stakeholders and may not be a subject of litigation,” he said. The Anambra Ohanaeze leader believes that the peaceful conduct of the elections have gone a long way to restore the people’s confidence in the ability of the INEC to conduct free, fair and credible elections in the country, and will greatly impact voter turnout in subsequent elections in the state. “It has always been the mandate of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo to ensure that elections are free, fair, peaceful and credible. “Reports we garnered from our sources showed that electoral materials and personnel arrived on time and there was peaceful conduct of the exercise in most of the locations. “We believe that if such will be sustained in future exercises, the issue of voter apathy will soon be a thing of the past,” he posited. Mazi Okpalaezeukwu reminded the elected officials of the burden of duty they bear towards the electorate, insisting that election into public office must be an avenue to serve and not for personal aggrandizement. He urged them to rally forces with the Soludo administration, to deepen grassroots development across the state. The Ohanaeze leader reiterated the commitment of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in the state, under his watch, to promoting peaceful and credible elections, as well as ensuring that elected public office holders prosecute their offices responsibly, in line with the tenets of democracy and their oaths of office.

Govt neglect, Bad Management mitgating Professional Wrestling Devt in Nigeria- NPWF President, Uche Elochukwu Benjamin Awka Awka, Anambra State Capital has been chosen to host the 44th anniversary celebration of the Nigeria Professional Wrestling Federation, NPWF. The event, scheduled to be held on the 26th, 27th, and 28th of September, 2025 at the Dr Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, will also witness the immortalization of the late Chief Michael Okpala, popularly known by the ring name- PowerMike of Africa, who is the first African Man to win the World Heavyweight title. The NWPF President, Chief John Uche, who made the disclosure in an exclusive chat with TNC correspondent in Awka, said a golden trophy has been donated to immortalize the great wrestler. According to him, Anambra State was chosen due to the support the State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has pledged to the development of wrestling in the country. “When in 2021, we wanted to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Federation, the US government published that its citizens should not come to the Southeast due to insecurity. So, we relocated the event to Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos. “This year, we wrote to the governor and he found interest in it and endorsed it. “Now that the governor has done a lot to rid the state of these criminal elements, we felt it would be proper to bring the event here and also use the opportunity to impress the need for the people of the state to support him for a second term,” Uche said. The NPWF president revealed that the event will witness wrestling competitions, where citizens of the state will be contesting alongside other professionals from other African countries. He said, “There will be a wrestling championship and professional wrestlers from other African countries will be coming to contest against our own in the country. “Two Anambra wrestlers will be fighting for titles. Angus Emeadi will be defending his belt against a Congolese, while a female wrestler, Joy Nwafor will be fighting for the African Women's title.” He revealed that as part of the Federation’s agenda to empower the youths positively, five restive youths will be selected from the 21 local government areas of Anambra State, who will be trained in the next six months and sent overseas for boxing activities, where they will become responsible. “We are bringing foreign trainees from UK and US to train the youths. These youths will go abroad and make so much money just like others, instead of staying back here and getting involved in crime and criminality,” he said. Uche regretted that due to government neglect and poor management, professional wrestling had gone into extinction in the country, after it was introduced by former President Shagari as a means of human empowerment. He worried that because of the setback, there are no young people to replace the ageing wrestlers, calling for government investment in Professional wrestling as a way of empowering the youths. “Nigerian wrestlers are ageing, and there is nobody to replace them. Very soon, the African Wrestling Championship will be going from one country to another, to ensure that the sport is developed. “We have over 10,000 wrestlers in Nigeria, but due to a lack of facilities and funding, they don’t make any headway. “The government only believes in amateurs, which lasts for just about two, and after that what happens. That is why some of them engage in crime. “Today, Cameroon, South Africa, Egypt, Congo, Togo and Benin Republic, and Botswana all fund professional wrestling. It is only in Nigeria that the government does not cater for professional wrestling. But all of us are taxpayers and by the time everybody is being organized in different ways of earning their living, the society will be better. “We are appealing to the government to put in more efforts in building sports facilities that will help the Federation train more youths and make them self-reliant and positively engaged,” Uche appealed.

Benjamin Ofor Awka The Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide in Anambra State has cautioned celebrity, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, VDM, over his comments regarding the burial of an Anambra-based entrepreneur, Martins Onyekesi, who gunmen murdered in June, 2025. The late Onyekesi, who is the Chief Executive Officer of a fish business, known as Fish Magnet, was shot and kidnapped in his Ezinifite-Okpuno residence, and despite the family allegedly paying a N10 million naira ransom, he eventually died after release. We can confirm that VeryDarkMan is already in Anambra, to attend the candlelight procession for the deceased businessman scheduled for Tuesday. In a recent video intercepted by our correspondent in Awka, VDM was seen telling his fans how he would be buried if he comes to Anambra and is killed. But, in an exclusive chat with our correspondent on Monday, the Anambra State President of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu expressed dismay at the comments of the celebrity, saying the state is not exactly in the light it is being painted. Condemning the killing of the young entrepreneur, Fish Magnet, Mazi Okpalaezeukwu welcomed all those coming for the candlelight procession in his honor, urging them to conduct themselves in a peaceful manner, and avoid acts or utterances that can heat up the polity. “It is a very sad and pathetic situation we encountered in the unprovoked and brutal killing of the hardworking young man, who has formed a great hope for his family, Anambra people and Nigerians alike, especially in the area of food security; and many other victims of the hydra-headed monster that has befallen us. “Anambra, both indigenes and residents, regrettably acknowledge the fair share of the national insecurity in Nigeria and beyond; and we are assiduously working with the appropriate quarters, especially the state government and security agencies to curb and check the menace of insecurity in our state,” he said. The Anambra Ohaneze leader noted with concern the video of VeryDarkMan(VDM), telling his fans how to bury him if he gets killed in Anambra, describing such utterances as misguided and demanding its outright withdrawal. He said that while Anambra is facing a peculiar security challenge, the apex Igbo socio-cultural group cannot allow any effort to demarket the state with insinuations and mockery of death and sit-at-home. “We live here in Anambra state. This is not the first time VDM has come to Anambra State. It is unpatriotic and politically-motivated to incite our people and de-market Anambra State and South East with the insinuations and mockery of ‘sit at home and death’. “This is an election year. Tensions are already high, and we cannot sit back and watch politicians use VeryDarkMan to destabilize and provoke unrest in Anambra State. “We therefore condemn any form of unguided march in the name of Candlelight procession. This is to ensure adequate security and retain the existing stability in the state. The candlelight procession should be done in an enclosed and protected location in order to maximize impact and serve the purpose,” he said. Okpalaezeukwu called on the Governor of the State, Prof Chukwuma Soludo and the security agencies, to rise to the occasion and take responsibility by providing a suitable venue such as Ekwueme Square for the candlelight procession and also provide adequate security for all attending. He maintained that security is everybody’s business as no one is immune to insecurity, urging people of the state not to play politics with the security of lives and property.

Elochukwu Benjamin Awka The All Progressives Congress, APC candidate for the November 8 Governorship Election in Anambra State, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu has accused Governor Chukwuma Soludo of coercing and intimidating leaders of communities and markets in the state, into supporting his re-election bid. According to Ukachukwu, the governor’s desperate moves were because of his poor performance in the state governance, which has cast a shadow of doubt over his chances at the November polls. Ukachukwu, made the disclosure in a chat with newsmen in Awka, the state capital, after he concluded his tour of the 21 Local Government Areas of the state and the wards. According to Ukachukwu, the governor has issued a directive to presidents-general and traditional rulers of communities not to receive any other governorship candidate in the November election. The APC candidate alleged that the governor is aware of the impending defeat that awaits him in November, and is now clinching on every straw to remain relevant. He questioned why a governor who has stayed more than three years in office would resort to such desperate moves to elicit people’s support ahead of the elections. “I have it on good information that the governor has threatened to either remove any community leader who receives any opposition candidate, or stop their payments. “Today, our traditional institution is in comatose, as our traditional rulers cannot talk, even when they see things going wrong, for fear of being dethroned. A case in hand is that of the traditional ruler of Onitsha. “Why does the governor have to set up caretaker committees in markets simply because he thinks he cannot control the present leadership of the markets? This is not democracy,” Ukachukwu retorted. Ukachukwu, who is popularly known as Ikukuoma, however, noted that the tour he just concluded brought a new ray of hope for the people, who, he said, were already tired of the deceit of the incumbent government. He revealed that the people during the tour showed their belief in his ability to turn around the governance of the state for the better, describing the support he got from them as organic and not bought. The APC governorship candidate, who also reacted to Governor Soludo’s comments branding his opponents as fundraisers, said the governor was simply ‘playing to the gallery’, wondering why the sincere donation of a support group to his campaigns will be rattling the governor. Ukachukwu asked the governor to reveal the source of the funds he is using for his campaigns, noting that the governor has emasculated the local government funds to be able to prosecute his campaigns. “What is the fuss about SOFIG raising N150 million naira to support my campaign? Why is it troubling Soludo? “He should tell Ndi Anambra whether it is his salary as a professor that he is using to prosecute his campaigns. What about all the local government monies he is collecting, rendering the LGA system in the state ineffective? “The governor must understand that Anambra people are wise and now know better. Come November 8, 2025, they will troop out in their numbers to vote for the APC, the only party that will connect the state to the centre. “Soludo had his opportunity, and he flopped it. Now is the time for the real people to come into the state governance and make life better for the people,” Ukachukwu posited.

Addressing the party delegates, the State Chairman of ADC, Patrick Obianyo said the party has reformed and now offers a platform that can salvage the country from its present unpalatable socio-economic condition, and usher in a new era of betterment and people-driven governance. According to Obianyo, the primary was well contested, but other aspirants opted to step down for Barr Amamgbo, considering his pedigree and vision for the people of the zone. Also speaking, a former Presidential Candidate of the party, Godson Okoye, who spoke on behalf of the National Working Committee of the party, said the party is fielding a tested and trusted candidate, who can represent the Anambra South people and bring back dividends of democracy to the people. He expressed confidence that the delegates of the party have made the right choice and all that remains is for the people of the sone to affirm the mandate and the zone will be better for it. Acknowledging the mandate of the party delegates, Barr Amamgbo said his foray in politics was borne out of the desire to engender genuine change in the governance of the nation, by standing firmly with the people, to whom the actual power belongs to. He expressed appreciation to the party's delegates for finding him worthy to fly the party's flag in the August 16 Anambra South Senatorial election, assuring them that the confidence reposed in him is not misplaced. "I am aggrieved, just like every other Nigerian, facing the avoidable hardship we are going through in Nigeria today. "I believe that my people, the people of Anambra South, just like every Nigerian, deserve better than they are getting and that's why I am interested in engendering a change in the nation's polity, through quality representation at the Red Chambers. "When I get to the Red Chambers, there will be a visible change. I will not be an Abuja senator, because I am homegrown. I know the plights of my people, from poverty, poor health healthcare, poor access to agric and commerce credits, to insecurity. "I give you my word that I will not disappoint you and I will show you a different type of representation, away from what you have seen from the present crop of people in the nation's politics, who are recycled old politicians, who have no solution to the problems of the people," Amamgbo promised. He maintained that the ADC offers Nigerians a breath of fresh air from the deceitful pattern of politics they are used to. Amamgbo paid glowing tribute to the former senator representing the zone, the late Ifeanyi Ubah, noting that the zone felt the impact of his ration at the Red Chambers. He urged the ADC delegates to deepen their campaigns in their wards, to ensure that the party wins the August 16 Anambra South Senatorial election. "I urge you to go back to your wards and polling units, to spread this message of hope that the ADC has come to salvage the country. "We are not happy with the way the country is being run, and we want to bring a genuine change that the people can feel. But this can only come to fruition if we intensify efforts to convince our people that the ADC is the way forward. "Come August 16, 2025, let us make a bold statement that we are tired and want genuine change," Amamgbo urged.

Uchenna Johnson Awka A community leader in Odumodu-enu village, Umunya, Oyi local government area of Anambra state, Collins Nweke has accused the member representing Oyi Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Innocent Ojike and his security operatives, of brutalizing him, resulting in his being hospitalized. He alleged that the lawmaker, popularly known as Ojicam, representing his constituency had attacked Chairman of Odumodu-enu during a meeting in Awkuzu few days ago. The victim had reportedly recorded the lawmaker's brawl with the Odumodu-enu Chairman, an action Ojike had frowned at which might have led to his alleged attack on Nweke. Narrating his ordeal from his hospital bed, Nweke alleged he was descended upon by the lawmaker and his security operatives, who hit his head with pistol resulting to profuse bleeding. He said, "I was attending a traditional marriage ceremony at Odumodu-ana village on June 30 at about 5.30 p.m when Ojicam came with his convoy. "After blocking me, he started shooting indiscriminately with his pistol, as all the three shots fired at my legs missed the target. "The lawmaker and his security operatives descended on me, hitting my head with his pistol. The injuries inflicted on my head was so much that I started bleeding profusely. "I was later taken to isolated area close to Zone 13 Ukpo where I was beaten mercilessly by the Ojicam and his security operatives, who accused me of doing a video recording his fight with the chairman of Odumodu-enu at Awkuzu the previous day. "I was asked to produce the video or be killed. After searching my phone without seeing the video, I was abandoned to die of bleeding, until I was rescued by a good Samaritan." While appealing to Governor Chukwuma Soludo to come to his rescue, Nweke alleged that his people were under constant threat from the legislator. "My life is in danger and Odumodu villagers are in trouble," he lamented. In their separate speeches, a community leader, Ichie Ekene Ejeh of Odumodu-enu and Chairman of Odumodu-ana, Mr Chukwuemeka Ozokwelu condemned the alleged brutality, describing it as barbaric and unbecoming of a lawmaker. The legislator was also fingered in the recent sale of Odumodu communal land without consent of the entire villages. However, when the lawmaker was contacted, he dismissed the allegations as false and misleading. He said the victim is a cultist and on Police wanted list, while about seven of his accomplices have been arrested. He said, "The information you saw online is a false information before the public. "If the man feels I attacked him, he should report to the police so they could investigate the matter. "Better still, he should show evidence of the video coverage when he was attacked. "The man in question is a cultist and the police is looking for him. "About 7 of them were arrested last night while the Collins in question is declared wanted. "It's in the news broadcast by PRO, Force headquarters. I can send you the video clips as evidence."

Northern Fulani Community remains supportive of your administration, Sarkin Fulani Awka, Siddiki reassures Soludo Johnson Uchenna Awka The Northern Community in Anambra State says it is committed to continuing its constructive partnership with the Chukwuma Soludo administration for the security, prosperity, and harmony of all communities and residents of the State. The Sarkin Fulani Awka, Alhaji Gidado Siddiki gave the assurance on Saturday when he spoke with TNC correspondent in Anambra, on behalf of the Northern community leaders across the three senatorial zones of Anambra State. They include the Sarkin Hausawa Awka, Alhaji Garba Haruna, who is the Chairman, Alhaji Iliyasu Yushau, the Sarki Hausawa (Onitsha), and Alhaji Salisu Mohammed (Nnewi). Siddiki was responding to a recent publication insinuating that the Hausa Community in Anambra State has rejected Governor Soludo and his second-term bid. The Sarkin Fulani Awka insisted that the Northern community in Anambra State has always maintained a respectful distance from sycophancy, but remained supportive of the Soludo administration. He noted that on numerous occasions when they had reported security concerns or challenges affecting their people, government officials and security agencies had responded swiftly and effectively. According to the Fulani leader in Awka, many of their people in Anambra have lived all their lives in the state, and established their businesses, and as such, see no other place as their home aside from Anambra. “Most of us were born and raised in Anambra State. All our homes, businesses, and livelihoods are here. We have no other place to depend upon apart from Anambra. “Any thoughtful person residing here stands firmly behind Governor Soludo’s administration. What stranger among us would oppose the wish of the indigenes?” he queried. Citing an online publication in which an individual interviewed falsely presented himself as a leader of the Hausa community in Awka, Siddiki noted that the recognized leader of the Hausa community in Awka is Garba Haruna, who was neither consulted nor made aware of the alleged statement. He maintained that the individual in question holds no official position within any Hausa community organization in Anambra State. Acknowledging that individuals have their right to join and support any political party of their choice, Siddiki noted, however, that no individual should unilaterally endorse a candidate on behalf of the entire Hausa community. He further revealed that there is an ongoing dialogue with the state government about the future of their cattle market, where the state government has committed to exploring and developing alternative arrangements to safeguard the livelihoods of their herders.

200 Youths to be trained on TAENPROWIZ Fish Production Business System and Technology under ECOWAS/ Anambra State Partnership Kenechukwu Ofomah Awka Two hundred youths in Anambra State are to be trained on the TAENPROWIZ Fish Production Business System and Technology under the second phase of the ECOWAS Commission and the Fisheries and Aquaculture Value Chain Business Development Partnership, otherwise known as the Taenprowiz Production System and Technology Partnership Center, Anambra State anchored by FABDA with legs at the Adazi-Nnukwu Fish Production Village Business franchise and the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam. The initiative, which is in line with the youth employability program of the ECOWAS Commission and aligned to the Youth friendly environment created by the Anambra State government, aimed at bringing youths into the agricultural businesses, involves the West Africa Secretariat for Ecological and Organic Agriculture (WASEOA) in this second phase, to coordinate some training Centers including the Taenprowiz Production System and Technology Partnership Center, Anambra State, Nigeria. It also aligns with the mandate of FABDA which is the state Agency overseeing the Fisheries and Aquaculture economy in Anambra State. In line with Section 5 of FABDA Law, Anambra State through FABDA has set a target to achieve local production of a minimum of 51,000 metric tons of Table Fish per annum to actualize self-sufficiency in Table Fish production. Addressing a cross-section of key youth leadership across Anambra state in one of the engagement and sensitisation meetings, at the TAENPROWIZ partnership centre in Awka, during a strategic meeting to get their buy-in into the initiative, the Managing Director and CEO of FABDA who is also the Training Co-ordinator, Mr. Emeka Iloghalu said the ECOWAS-sponsored youth training is coming at a time the State Government has put a high premium on human capital and economic development centered on the youths. Iloghalu said under the 2nd batch of the initiative, the youths will be trained on improved production system for fish called the TAENPROWIZ Fish Production Business System and Technology, and how to apply the model to produce fish in a professional and precise way. According to him, the granting of the second phase was as a result of the significant success recorded in the first phase. On the expected outcomes from the ECOWAS partnership, the Training Co-ordinator who is also the FABDA boss said it is envisaged that the training Centre and the various sites will become better now than when the ECOWAS Commission support came, and that the youths will emerge from the training successfully trained and equipped with the new technical skills to professionally run Fish businesses. “It is also expected that some of these youths will go into fish entrepreneurship, while some can work or manage fish establishments for third parties. “The Commission is looking forward to using the initiative to increase the population of youths within the ECOWAS region who are engaged in the Agribusinesses. This is because the agricultural sector is a strategic sector that has the capacity to create wealth and employment, as well as contribute to solving the food security question in the region,” he said. Iloghalu noted that before the ECOWAS youth training, the FABDA has been on its mandate to drive and industrialize the Fisheries and Aquaculture economy in Anambra, in line with some of its targets including to achieve 51 million kg of table fish production per annum. According to him, that is why they are focused on training the youths on Table Fish Production business using the only business Solution for fish production currently, which is the TAENPROWIZ Fish Production Business System and Technology. With this, he noted, “The state can do massive production of Table Fish at industrial level. “And as we are doing that, the seed fish component of the value chain will follow it normally, as well as the brood stock production and the processed fish aspect. “So, it is a strategic way and direction for strengthening the businesses along the fisheries and aquaculture value chain, starting from Anambra State, extending to Southeast, to Nigeria, ECOWAS and Africa at large. “So, we may be at the nucleus and pilot stage, but we look forward to getting it strengthened and the techniques multiplied for greater results.” Speaking at the event, the State Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Surveyor Ambassador Obi Emeka Chukwudi described agriculture as the way to go, adding that the fisheries and aquaculture area, with its value chain, can be leveraged to empower youths in the state to be self-reliant, as well as empower others. He extolled the strategic collaborations being explored by the FABDA to get youths in the state to embrace the opportunities in the fisheries area, assuring that the NYCN will mobilize its members across the communities of the state to participate in the training. “In NYCN, we are ever-ready to partner with any group or organization with genuine intent to advance the cause of youths. “With what the FABDA is doing with the ECOWAS commission and the TAENPROWIZ Technology, we are hopeful that in the near future, we will begin to have young people who would have excelled in the fisheries and aquaculture area, and will be willing to support others,” Obi enthused. In their remarks, the President of the Youth Wing of the Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU, Comrade Ken Okoli and the State youth leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Dr Tochukwu Obiadi expressed their solidarity with the initiative, saying that more needs to be done to get the youths adequately empowered. Under the second phase of the training, the Taenprowiz Fish Production Business System and Technology is evolving to incorporate the Ecological Organic Aquaculture principles to extend to Agroecological production of crops from the nutrients rich Fish wastewater, thereby imbibing the practice of respecting the environment while pursuing food security via promoting food systems with Fish production and Aquaculture as the driver. The training opportunity is for any youth between the ages of 18 and 35 at 4th of June 2025 and interested to become successful in professional, corporate or personal investments in the Fish business as entrepreneur, investor or worker in the Fish Production and Trading Business.

Kenechukwu Ofomah Awka The Anambra State Chapter of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide has expressed its readiness to support efforts to begin to change the perception of the average Igbo from that of agitation to that of conversation and negotiation. The Anambra Ohaneze President, Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu made the disclosure on Wednesday, when he and the State Executive members of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization received the leadership of the Igbo Integration Movement, IMO at their State Secretariat in Awka. The visit was to solicit the partnership of the parent Igbo body, towards advancing the objectives of the IMO, which centers around securing a better bargain for Ndigbo by adequately reintegrating the race in the national polity. Addressing the Anambra Ohaneze leadership, the leadership of the IMO, led by Nze Tobe Osigwe(Eze Ikolo muo) acknowledged that the incessant quest for the secession of Biafra stems from the belief that Igbos are being marginalized in Nigeria. He also noted that even though the average Igbo man is interested in the Biafran conversation, the Igbo leaders are shying away from discussing the issue for fear of either falling out with the people or attacks. The IMO leader believes that if Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, who led the Biafran side during the Nigeria Civil war could return from exile and reintegrate into Nigeria, it is wrong for Ndigbo to remain stuck where Ojukwu had moved on from. “We have to be intentional about this Biafran issue. “Till now, the Igbo region and her leaders have left the issue of Biafran for the agitators to drive the narrative. That is why when you open any platform with the name Biafra today, all manner of people flood in there, spewing hate and bile. “These agitators are hell-bent on disintegrating Nigeria and that is why our leaders and the elites must open the floor for discussion on whether we, as Igbos are staying in Nigeria, or we are leaving. “That discussion will present the opportunity for Igbos to heal and move on in the right direction. The narrative must not be driven by these agitators, whose actions and inactions will only plunge the Igbo region into another civil war,” he said. Nze Osigwe also harped on the need for the Igbos to stop nursing the victim mentality, which has made them to always see people from other tribes of the country as enemies. This mentality, he noted, has greatly inhibited the growth of the region and advanced the belief that nothing good can come out of Nigeria for Ndigbo. He sought the support of the Ohaneze Ndigbo towards their upcoming convention, aimed at throwing up the Biafran conversation, so that Igbos can begin to understand the facts on ground. In his response, the Anambra Ohaneze Ndigbo President, Mazi Okpalaezeukwu said the apex Igbo socio-cultural group in the state is resolute that it is imperative to change the narrative of Biafra in Alaigbo, starting from Anambra, from agitation to discussion. He said the belief was in considering the need for adequate integration of Ndigbo in the scheme of affairs in Nigeria, owing to the continued complaints of gross marginalization of Ndigbo and the way they are being excluded whenever important decisions and actions were taken. According to him, the present mentality of agitation had resulted in violence and use of force that has destroyed the peace of Igbo land. “We're doing these on the basis that security is everyone’s business and if our people will be willing to contribute immensely through intelligence, being their brother's keeper, impact would be maximized and purpose served. “There is need for Ndigbo to jettison this victim mentality, and instead, rise to the occasion and convert Biafran agitation to discussion,” Okpalaezeukwu said. On the mission of the visitors, Okpalaezeukwu assured that soon the state chapter will invite the group to work out modalities towards accomplishing their mission. He expressed happiness that the group is being championed by positive Igbo youths, who shares in the belief that Igbo land must experience a facelift, saying “It is now upon the Igbo youths to take charge. “If the youths continue to expect much from the elders, they will be deceiving themselves. “We must rise as Igbo youths and take the bull by the horn. Most of us are older than Ojukwu, when he performed exploits that earned him his name. So, we have to begin to take strategic steps as Igbo youths to transform Alaigbo, because we have all that it takes.”

By Daniel Ezeigwe If you have never really been around Anambra governor’s wife, you are definitely leaving a huge gap in your perspective of life's totalness. You really should know this woman whose life inadvertently affects your psychology of life. Nonye is not a governor’s wife; she is a product of distinctive ordinariness. A woman whose image and presence heal all suspicions. You may likely not agree with my convictions about this extraordinary woman. You don't have to. I understand. But the truth is that you definitely haven't seen this Nonye Soludo. About two weeks ago during her visit to Dunukofia Local Government Headquarters, Ukpo, for the disbursement of ₦54,250,000 recapitalization grants to about 1,085 female petty traders (Ndi afia table), the governor's wife took a step that held the crowd awestruck. While handing out the grants to the women who were lined up a few metres away from where she was seated, Mrs Soludo ever-conscious eyes caught two walking impaired persons who were struggling fruitlessly for movement on the grassy field. She immediately called the Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike, who, graciously, was at the event, and she whispered something into his right ear. About twenty-five minutes after the whole event had ended and when both the organizers and the invitees were expecting her to leave, Mrs Nonye Soludo was still seated, waiting patiently for something that everyone around her didn't have a single clue of. She was relaxed and calm — her natural approach to life even in the heart of daring storms. Her eyes stayed fixed on something that no one could ever pick a guess on. Thirty-eight minutes later, and when everyone had become conspicuously discomposed, two brand new wheelchairs arrived. It would later be understood that the First Lady had told the Commissioner for Health that she needed two wheelchairs for the two persons she sighted a few minutes ago. The two wheelchairs had been brought all the way from Awka, and despite the pleas from the Commissioner for the governor’s wife to take her leave and allow the chairman of the local government to hand over the wheelchairs later, she insisted on doing it herself and would wait until they were brought. The crowd didn't believe it; everyone consumed by torrents of emotion as Mrs Soludo not only ensured that the two persons got comfortably seated on the wheelchairs, but received cash that would sustain them for a long time. That's the nature of Anambra governor's wife; a woman whose aura of kindness and altruism go right before her name and personality. That would not be the first time that Mrs Soludo would display such a selfless gesture of love. For he position and the need for official documentation, you'd never see the Anambra governor's wife lending help and showing her natural traits of compassion in camera or publicly. It's not just being selflessly there for people who need an air of grace that Mrs Nonye Soludo finds her greatest affability and strength. No. Long before Charles Chukwuma Soludo became a household name in Nigeria and Africa, this saint-worthy name had been there doing spectacular stuff barely known. Anambra is now truly in the hands significance. Two-thirds for Chukwuma. The rest for Nonye’s exceptional humanism.

Johnson Uchenna Awka The agenda to get Anambra State connected to the centre through the victory of the All Progressives Congress, APC during the November 8 Governorship Election gathered momentum on Friday, as the APC Governorship candidate for the election, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu was hosted by the APC Senate caucus. Ukachukwu, alongside the National Chairman of the APC, His Excellency, Abdullahi Ganduje, was received by the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin and APC senators from the Southeast. The meeting, which took place in Abuja, was to reaffirm the senators’ unwavering commitment towards ensuring that APC takes over Anambra State, come November 8 2025. This, they noted, is in line with the directive of President Bola Tinubu, when he presented the APC flag to Prince Ukachukwu and his deputy, Senator Uche Ekwunife, last month. This development gives impetus to the overwhelming support which Prince Ukachukwu, a known name in Nigerian politics, has continued to garner, since he emerged the standard bearer of the APC for the Anambra 2025 Governorship Election, on the 5th of April, 2025. Ever since, Ikukuoma, as Ukachukwu is fondly called, has engaged in consultations and alliances that present him as a formidable force, assured of victory during the November election. Addressing newsmen after the meeting, an elated Ukachukwu said the task ahead is clear, to get Anambra connected to the centre, to ensure it gets its fair share of benefits from the federation. Ukachukwu posited that the nation under the leadership of President Tinubu is making steady progress, especially with the quality support provided to it by the Senate under the leadership of Senator Akpabio. According to him, such collaboration has been the catalyst that is consistently changing the fortunes of the nation for the best. The business mogul noted that Ndi Anambra have seen the light and are willing to take their destiny in their own hands on the 8th of November, by rejecting the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA in the state with their votes. “Our people are very enlightened and cannot be deceived by the antics of the APGA in Anambra State. “From the feedback we are getting through a thorough survey we conducted, the people are fed up with the lies and propaganda of the ruling party in the state and are ready to embrace the renewed hope agenda. “Anambra people are ready to connect to the centre and begin to get their due share of the national benefits. Mushroom political parties cannot and will never get us to the centre stage of national politics. “APC is the gamechanger and come November 2025, we will all speak with one voice, for the betterment of Anambra, for the enthronement of APC in the state and for the continued leadership of our leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Ukachukwu concluded.

Kene Benjamin Awka 60 individuals drawn from across the 21 Local Government Areas of Anambra State, as well as select media practitioners, have been successfully trained to monitor election violence during the Anambra 2025 Governorship Election. The training, tagged a two-day Nigeria Election Violence Education and Resolution, NEVER monitors training commenced on Wednesday and elapsed on Thursday. It was organized by the Kimpact Development Initiative, KDI, with support from its partners, including the UK International Development. The participants include social change advocates and stakeholders from the local government areas (LGAs) being trained, with two representatives from each LGA serving as long-term monitors. Additionally, media practitioners from select media outlets are being trained as media monitors to track political campaign financing. The monitors are to follow through the pre-election, actual election, and post-election period, tracking, documenting, and mitigating security situations, with the aim of achieving peace in the state. The Executive Director of Kimpact Development Initiative, Bukola Idowu said the training became necessary as a result of gaps identified by the organization during the 2021 Governorship Election, especially in the area of low voter turnout. According to him, the NEVER project, which started in 2019, has been implemented in the Edo and Ondo off-cycle elections and yielded meaningful results in providing security agencies and other critical stakeholders with the data to mitigate election violence. “We were here in the last governorship election, and it was quite interesting because that election had the lowest turnout of voters for any governorship election in the country, due to insecurity. “We do not want to have that kind of election again because it is a waste of resources. INEC made provision for the over 2.5 million registered voters in the state, and we had less than 300,000. And because the low voters’ turnout was due to insecurity, we strategically brought this initiative to look at how we can mitigate election violence and violence that can happen during the election period in time, because the election is still in November. When the atmosphere is peaceful, people will come out to participate. “Also, we are carrying the security agencies along, and the data these monitors will be garnering will be sent to them for prompt action,” he said. Idowu urged the monitors to be factual and not fabricate stories, revealing that the NEVER initiative is scientific and evidence-based and will be reviewed by experts. The KDI Head, Research and Strategy, Oluwafemi Adebayo , emphasized that the level of the people’s understanding of elections and electoral processes in Nigeria, determines their level of participation in the process He noted that to improve the people’s appreciation of laws governing the electoral process in Nigeria, the organization had developed a platform, ‘NaijaElections’ to provide reliable information and answers to election questions and Nigeria’s democracy. Adebayo said, “It was borne out of the need to ensure that young people and electoral stakeholders have a tool from a one-stop platform, that could answer all the electoral questions and history in Nigeria. “We understand that this is the period of AI, and there is a need for it to be used positively for the process of the election. So, we deployed it to voter education, where it could be used to simplify the bulky documents of the Nigerian Constitution, the Electoral Act, and the electoral guidelines. “The basic idea is to curb misinformation and disinformation and make sure that people are able to have information in a simplified manner. “The platform has accessibility features such as text-to-speech and speech-to-text, the light and dark mode, language accessibility, storytelling features, among others.” On her part, the State Team lead monitor, Ugochi Freeman explained that the engagement of the monitors is targeted to provide a survey on security risk assessment, which the security agencies would be aware of, that may mar the electioneering campaigns and the election proper. She expressed satisfaction that the training provided each monitor with the right knowledge to know what to look out for when monitoring. On their part, some of the trained monitors, Ikechukwu Iheagwazi from Ihiala and Chidubem Nwachinemere from Anaocha LGA applauded the training as packed with carefully-packaged modules, which they said have greatly impacted their understanding of the various aspects of election and election monitoring. Uchenna Johnson Awka Issues of security, youth inclusion, and regional cum national development formed the crux of discussions during a recent convention of Igbo Youth Leaders and Stakeholders held in Awka, Anambra State Capital. The Igbo youth leaders and stakeholders drawn from across the seven Igbo speaking States, rose from the convention to condemn the worsening security situation in various parts of Igbo land, which they noted was largely fueled by long-standing socio-political grievances, marginalisation, and certain government policies that have aggravated the anger and disenfranchisement felt by many Igbo youths. The youth leaders’ position was made known in a communique issued after the convention, signed by the leader of the Igbo Youth Leaders and Stakeholders Assembly, Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu, the Convention Chairman of the assembly, Mazi Bismark Oji, and the Chairman of the Communique Drafting Committee, Uzoh Ifeanyi. In the communique, the group called on all community youth leaders across Igboland to rise to the occasion and heighten vigilance by collaborating closely with local vigilante groups and security agencies to counter threats to security in the region, whether in their towns, farmlands, or forests. They also urged all Governors in Igbo land to rise above political distractions, prioritize security with urgency or face collective rejection at the polls in 2027. They further demanded that the nation’s Security Chiefs issue immediate instructions to their field personnel to cease the harassment and intimidation of innocent Igbo youths, advocating instead, for a working alliance that fosters intelligence-sharing and coordinated response strategies to neutralize real threats and those truly bent on destabilizing Igboland. The youths acknowledged with appreciation the remarkable improvement in security in Anambra State, especially the state governor’s success in tackling the menace of Okite, which had misled so many of Igbo youths. The communique said the convention adopted a proposal to evolve an Integrated Youth Development, with a 5-year strategic action plan, capturing the aspirations of young people in areas that affect their livelihood and production. It also said the Convention is saddened by the lack of a leadership succession plan in Igboland and urges the political elites and leaders to deliberately establish a leadership recruitment, mentorship and succession plan, which will be beneficial to all and sundry without status discrimination. “We commend the Federal Ministry of Youth Development for convening the upcoming National Youth Confab, a platform that has the potential to shape inclusive policies for the Nigerian Youth. The Convention has taken a unified stand and shall be presenting an articulated position document that reflects our aspirations, concerns, and solutions as a critical bloc in the Nigerian Youth demography. “We urge the Honorable Minister of Youth Development to ensure that the modalities for participation in the confab reflect equity, transparency, and equal opportunity for all ethnic nationalities. “The Convention resolves and adopts Igbo Youth Leaders / Stakeholders Assembly as name for the Igbo Youth Leadership platform, with Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu as the leader. “We appreciate the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the constitution of the Boards of the various regional development commissions. However, we humbly request that he include more Igbo youths in his various appointments. “We respectfully request for the expansion of the various boards of the regional development commissions to ensure adequate representation of Igbo youths, whose talents, ideas, and entrepreneurial drive are vital to regional and national development. “As patriotic Igbo Youths, we remain committed to a peaceful, united, and progressive Nigeria, where equity, justice, and mutual respect reign. We stand for justice, inclusion, and national transformation,” the communique concluded.
