Ali Modu Sheriff, national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has failed in his bid to stop the Supreme Court from hearing an appeal filed by his rival, Ahmed Makarfi. Makarfi is challenging a ruling by the Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt which pronounced Sheriff the party’s chairman. Moreover, Sheriff had asked the apex court to discountenance Makarfi’s appeal based on his (Sheriff) court affirmation as the party’s chairman. He said it was illegal for Makarfi to institute the legal suit since it was not recognised by law. Akin Olujimi, former attorney-general of the federation, appeared for Sheriff, while Wole Olanipekun, stood as counsel to the Makarfi group. After listening to both counsels, Walter Onnoghen, chief justice of Nigeria, leading the five-man panel, ruled in Makarfi’s favour. “In this circumstance, we find merit in the appeal which is accordingly granted,” Onnoghen said Based on the ruling, the Supreme Court is set to hear the appeal. The Kano State House of Assembly has called off its investigation of alleged misappropriation of funds and other infractions by the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi. The House resolved to drop the probe following a plea through a letter by the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, which was read by the speaker, Kabiru Alhassan Rirum, on the floor of the House. On Sunday, a coalition of civil society groups in the state had also joined in calling on the legislators to stop the exercise. In his letter, Governor Ganduje said he was calling for the investigation to be dropped as a result of interventions by highly-placed personalities in the matter. These personalities, according to the letter, include the acting president, Yemi Osinbajo; party leaders; former heads of state Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar; Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar; and top businessmen and indigenes of the state, Aliko Dangote and Aminu Dantata. Mr. Ganduje said although he was reluctant to interfere in the activities of the state’s legislative arm, he appealed to the lawmakers to “temper justice with mercy” and allow peace prevail. “Much as I recognize your independence as a separate arm of government and who has right to investigate the emir, I am pleading with you to allow peace prevail”, he stated. He said there had been a meeting in Kaduna over the matter “at the instance of some governors”. “There is no gain saying (the fact) that the Emir Muhammadu Sunusi II has admitted all his faults and mistakes and agreed to make adjustment. I think at this juncture, we should allow peace as been achieved to continue”, the governor stated. The House subsequently resolved to drop the probe. Two can’t work together…unless they are in agreement. A married lady, Foluke Ojo has approached a Magistrate Court sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital, seeking dissolution of her marriage to Busuyi Ojo, saying she was tired of the union over alleged too much s x from her husband. The couple who had been married for 14 years, both agreed to the dissolution. Folake alleged that her husband was no more taking care of the family. She declared that she was no more in love with her husband, asking the court to grant her prayer. She alleged that Busuyi wanted to have sx with her all the time; and that anytime she refused to have sx with him, she would be beaten blue black by her husband. She further alleged that after beating her, Busuyi would still go ahead and have sx with her. In response, Busuyi denied the allegations by his wife; saying that Folake always disobeyed him and that she did not always behave like a responsible wife. “She dressed like a prostitute, she can wear any cloth she likes, forgetting she’s a wife,” he said. Expressing no more interest in the marriage, the husband urged the court to grant his wife’s request and terminate the 14-year union. After listening to them, president of the Court, Ayodele Omotola, said there was an indication that the relationship had broken down, but he urged the parties to allow peace to reign. He asked the husband to provide a sum of N5,000 for the food allowances of their children and then adjourned the case till May 10, 2017, for judgment. source: http://www.wapextra.com.ng/wife-seeks-dissolution-of-14-year-marriage-over-beating-excessive-sx/ Lalasticlala, Mynd44
