The federal executive council (FEC) has ordered the probe of previous heads of Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) over poor remittances. .

The current registrar, Is-haq Oloyede (pictured), has remitted N5 billion to the coffers of government in one year, with N3 billion still outstanding.
This is the highest remittance since the body was set up 40 years ago and there was no increase in application fees since Oyebode was appointed in 2016.

The highest remittance by JAMB before Oloyede succeeded Dibu Ojerinde was N3 million in a year. .

America's Got Talent contestant Kechi Okwuchi blew the crowd away with By The Grace of God by Katy Perry on Tuesday.

The song, which includes lyrics about getting back up "by the grace of God" and putting "one foot in front of the other," seemed particularly poignant for Okwuchi, who survived a plane crash in Nigeria when she was 16.

Okwuchi had shared at her audition earlier this season that music helped her "escape" as she recovered following the crash.

ENGR. Sulyman Abdulkareem has been appointed as the new vice-chancellor of the University of Ilorin by the institution's management.
This was announced by Abdullahi Oyekan, the university’s pro-chancellor and chairman of council on Monday, August, 28.

He said the institution reached the decision after a meeting of the council in accordance with the provisions of the Universities Amendment Act, Premium Times.

The appointment will take effect from October 16.
The incoming VC is a professor at the department of Chemical Engineering is the institutions’s 10th Vice-chancellor. He was once vice chancellor of the Alhikmah University, Ilorin.

He was born in 1954 at Oro, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara.

He schooled at the University of Detroit in 1980 where he earned a degree in Chemical Engineering and also at the University of Louisville, in 1988 where he earned a Ph.D in the same discipline.

His area of specialization is Heterogeneous Catalysis/Reaction Engineering.

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has fixed minimum cut off marks for Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
The minimum cut off marks for admissions into universities in Nigeria was set for 120, polytechnics and colleges of education pegged at 100, while that of innovative enterprising institutes was pegged at 110.
Institutions are, however, at liberty to raise their cut off marks for admission above the minimum set by JAMB.
Also, admissions into public degree awarding institutions for the 2017 UTME examination will end on January 15, 2018 while for private institutions, it ends on January 31, 2018.
Also, decisions on first choice candidates by universities will end on October 15, and second choice candidates will end on December 15; after which the remaining students will be available in the market place for other institutions till the January closing dates. The Academic staff Union of Universities are set to embark on a strike action that is indefinite.

So dear Nigeria students are set to face a lengthy stay at home after the body had a meeting in the university Abuja On Friday which resolve to their decision in going on strike.
The union has also instructed all its members[[lecturers] not to conduct lectures In their various Universities.

According to a statement signed by Mr. Biodun Ogunyemi, the ASUU President, the union tried all means of negotiation before the decision to embark on an indefinite strike action was reached.


The body will today in a press conference reveal all that was discussed and the their decision to embark on an indefinite strike .

Reports also have it that ASUU had earlier tasked its branches to conduct referendum among members on whether or not an indefinite strike should be called.


The position of the local branches on whether to proceed on a strike action was reviewed in the Abuja meeting which ended in the early hours of today, Monday August 14th

The overwhelming position of the local branches was consequently adopted.

Poor funding of universities, part-payment of salaries of lecturers and the kidnap of two lecturers of the University of Maiduguri by the Boko Haram are among major reasons for the strike
action.
