Nairaland / General / Who's Afraid Of Ganduje:open Letter To Mr President by kindnyce(m): 2:53pm On Apr 16
An Open Letter to Mr President

Your Excellency
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu
President and Commander-in-Chief
Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Sir

Who's Afraid of Ganduje? The hidden hand of NNPP, and a Desperate attempt to discredit him.

The APC Northwest Alliance for Good
Governance is a foremost support group, whose mandate include critique of policies, programs and, an advocate of internal democracy and rule of law, within the APC family and the country at large.
As a group and a major stakeholder, our political activities transcends the North-West, as we continue to engage other geopolitical zones in ensuring victory, peace and stability within the party.

Recent political activities in Kano State, and the desperate attempt to bring into disrepute, the character and person of Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, by the Kano State Governmvent has taken a more precarious shape. Hence the need for this open letter to you, as president and national leader of our great party, the APC.

Sir

1. It is an undeniable fact that politics is about numbers, concessions,
realignments and overtures, but sometimes, it becomes a fatal mistake to draw a political foe into your fold, especially when such figure is overtly ambitious.

2. Since the emergence of Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje as national chairman of the APC, the Kano State Governmvent in cahoot with some unprogressive elements had been working surreptitiously to undermine his gains and discredit him and pit him against your Excellency.
Recall, the Kano State Governmvent had constituted a dual committee, to investigate the administration of Dr Ganduje, from 2015-2023. The politically motivated committee, had members of the NNPP and some known adversaries of Dr Ganduje.

3. As a mark of desperation, some fictitious individuals, purportedly from Ganduje Ward, working with the agents of Kano state government, in a bid to embarrass Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, had in a sponsored press conference, on 15 April announced the suspension of Dr Ganduje from the party. The traducers had the backing of Kano state government, and some undemocratic elements within and outside the APC. Dr Ganduje since his appointment as party chairman has defied all odds and prove critics wrong. He stabilized the party, reconcile dissenting factions across the State and won two Governorship Election.

4. The desperation exhibited by the NNPP government to embarrass Dr Ganduje is despicable, unwarranted and uncalled for. This seeming disregard to a subsisting court order against harassing and witch-hunting Dr Ganduje by the NNPP administration has gone to show that they are on a vengeful and personal vendetta.

5.The Kano APC, in the last elections gave you the single largest vote in the entire country, despite Sen Kwankwaso being on the ballot box and from Kano. It was made possible by the effort of Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, despite the huge opposition from the presidency who worked against him for obviously standing against Naira redesign policy and other political landmines placed by the previous administration inorder to thwart your chances.

6. We are not unmindful of your political sagacity, legacy and immense dexterity in the art of politics and governance, especially your efforts in forming the APC, and ensuring its victory since, 2014.But the northwest geopolitical zone is a hot bet for national politics, and as regional support group close to the grassroots, we understand very well the intricacies herein. Therefore, your call for a truce and realignment with the NNPP is one full of wisdom. But, the NNPP had no desire to see through to a peaceful truce. They want Dr Ganduje out of the system, and party at all cost which included the

7.This seeming political marriage with the Kwankwasiyya movement is one that has a widened implications, and is akin to a double-edged sword. The antecedent of the Kwankwasiyya group, led by Senator Kwankwaso is well documented. It is a feifdom. Not a democracy, to say the least.
In the past, every political alliance, alignment and association Sen Kwankwaso had with some individuals, ended up in chaos. Same thing happened with his predecessors, HE Late Abubakar Rimi, HE Shekarau, HE Atiku Abubakar and some of his benefactors like Hon Musa Gwadabe, and a host of others.

8. The Kwankwasiyya group, and by extension the NNPP, is peopled by individuals who are driven by propaganda, vindictiveness and quest for political dominance. Their leader, has demonstrated such, when he declared publicly that, it was he who ordered the demolition and destructions of businesses and livelihoods in Kano, soon after Gov Abba Kabir Yusuf took over. That single action led to a lot of deaths, people's source of employment and survival were hitherto destroyed.

9. Politics is about give and take. It is more concerned with loyalty. As a party man yourself, Your Excellency understand the significance of loyalty. Sen Kwankwaso, the NNPP and Kwankwasiyya group cannot be trusted to be 100% loyal to you, your cause, and policies. This is an established fact. Dr Ganduje's loyalty to Mr president is not in doubt.

10. The loyalty and political maturity displayed by the national Chairman of the APC, and former governor of Kano state, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, before, during after the supreme court judgement is by all means commendable. Despite political differences, to show his unflinching loyalty, to you, Dr Ganduje swiftly returned to Kano, to implement your advice for truce and mend-fencing with NNPP.

11. Despite efforts by your humble self, with the APC national Chairman, to ensure a peaceful resolution of the political impasse, so far, the NNPP hasn't shown any genuine commitment to the initiative. Obviously, the NNPP has some hidden motives in this whole saga, which is why we reiterate that, that you should be wary of its antics. More so, the recent attempt to usurp the powers of Dr Ganduje is a pointer to the fact that the NNPP administration cannot be trusted.

12. It is a common knowledge across the northwest geopolitical zone. Sen Kwankwaso has his sights firmly on the presidency, come 2027. He sees opportunity in achieving his ambition, and wishes APC fails. We know, much as you know, your Excellency, it is a fatal mistake to empower and emboldened your political adversary. There is a common parlance in Hausa, which says, one should be wary of "plaiting a hair, with a lice".

Thank you
God bless you, the APC family and the federal Republic of Nigeria.

Signed
Secretary General
APC Northwest Alliance for Good Governance

Nairaland / General / Intimidation Of Ganduje Not In Kano's Interest-group by kindnyce(m): 10:26am On Apr 11
Intimidation of Ganduje, not in Kano's best interest —— Group tells Kano govt

A group, Kano Concerned Forum has berated the recent action of the Kano Government, which seeks to investigate the Ganduje administration.
Speaking with newsmen in Kano, yesterday, the secretary of the forum Comrade Auwal Shu'aib said " elections are done and dusted. Now is time to deliver to Kano people good governance and dividend of democracy. To bring back an old and expired line of investigating the past administration is tantamount to self admission of failure. If the Gov Abba-led government had a clear roadmap for development, it won't be wasting its precious time on frivolous issues of investigating Ganduje administration and his family. Because, Kano people are overwhelmed with existential challenges, like high cost of living, hyperinflation and want.

He continued, " it's almost getting to a year since the government took over, it has not achieved a major significant milestone, while waste time on what is not tenable? Kano people are more concerned on getting them out of doldrums they are in. Federal governments has massively supported state government to ease the current hardship, we in Kano are waiting to see how the government will be succour to us. Therefore, this needless, politically motivated committee is nothing but vendetta aimed at servicing the ego of some interests within the state".

Speaking earlier, the Forum's co convener, Amb. Abdullahi Mohammed, lambasted the government on the perceived injustice and partiality in setting up the mandate and scope of the committee. He said " this commitee is ill-concieved. Even if there's a need for it, which I doubt, why the focus on Ganduje's administration alone? They ought to have started the investigation beyond 2015. It should be from 1999 through to 2023. This is in spite of an existing court order restraining Kano state government against harassment of Dr Ganduje and his family in whatever guise".

He continued, "it is the prerogative of a governor to lease government properties so long as the legal procedure are followed. It has been the practice among all governors in the country. Ganduje's children are Kano indigenes and have right to buy and own Governmvent properties so long as all criteria are met"
He concluded that, " Dr Ganduje has done his bit for Kano. And as Kano indigenes, we bear testimony to his massive infrastructural development, as well as consolidating Kano's position as center of commerce in West Africa, through the a robust commercialization of drive".

Recall, the Kano State Governmvent had last week set up two committees to investigate the administration of former governor and national chairman of the APC Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

Ways and Means Probe: group welcomes probe, urges committee to invite ex AGF Ahmed Idris, others.

As the economy and social wellbeing falters, many Nigerians are thrown into extreme poverty. What majority of Nigerians don't know is, it was not the making of president Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This was according to a paper presented during a roundtable discussion at Excelsior Center, Ajah in Lagos, yesterday by a group of Civil Society, under the umbrella of Omu'labi Forum.

The Convener of the roundtable and chairman of Civi-Watch, Barr. Funsho Benjamin, faulted those blaming the economic hardship on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying he inherited the mess from his predecessor, President Buhari, and his appointees, who wrecked the country under his nose. He said, "appointees who worked for the previous administration should be held responsible. Take for instance, the former Accountant-General of the federation Alhaji Ahmed Idris. He is standing trial for stealing over 109 billion. Can you imagine what you can do with that amount? Let me break it down for you. 109 billion, when infuse in the economy can jumpstart 15 thousand micro and small business across the 6 geopolitical zone in the country. It can build 6 standard hospitals across the geopolitical zones. The same amount can as well build and equip standard schools in same geopolitical zones". He continued, " when kleptomaniacs like Alhaji Ahmed Idris had looted the country dry, why would a sane person want to blame President Tinubu for the hardship, not the likes of the former thieving Accountant General", he queried.

Speaking earlier, board member of the forum and co-convener Mr Shittu Adewale welcome the Senate's intervention and willingness to probe the Ways and Means, of the past administration which 30 trillion was looted through frivolous means by officials of the past administration, chiefly among them was the former Accountant General. According to him, ' "every payment of government money passes through the office of the accountant general. So, therefore, as a known kleptomaniac, with a history of financial recklessness, he by all means must be invited by the committee probing the Ways and Means, because we have it on good authority, and with irrefutable evidence of his involvement". He continued, " these unpatriotic lots were the ones that should be blamed, not president Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the mess we're in in right now. They, not Tinubu were the ones who plunged the country into the abyss of hopelessness". He concluded, "given the humongous amount involved, we're talking about 30 trillion here. This is akin to treachery. Those fingered especially the former Accountant General should be tried for treason, locked up for the rest of his life".

Many speakers at the event asked Nigerians not to blame President Tinubu for the country's woes. Rather, Nigerians should ask questions on how the past administration ran the country, together with some appointees, who wrecked the country.
Different civil society groups from the Southwest were in attendance and spoke on a wider range of issues bordering on corruption, rule of law and role of the judiciary in building a resilient Nigeria.

Closing the Educational Gap in Northern Nigeria: The Transformative Role of American Spaces Nigeria.

By
Abdullahi D Mohammad

No nation thrives in isolationism. Urbanization, cooperation, and globalization almost eliminate human and non-human boundaries between countries. As cooperation deepens, so does the need for integration, potentially boosting sociocultural, economic, and political ties for mutual benefits. The United States of America is among the nearly 150 countries Nigeria has ties with. The relationship between Nigeria and the US has gone beyond mere diplomatic and bilateral agreements; it has assumed a profound and ebullient dimension.

Through American Spaces, the US Department of State seeks to bridge deficits in Nigeria, especially in education, culture, democracy, and civic engagement. For emphasis, American Spaces in Nigeria are among the over 140 such spaces globally. They are proudly funded by the US Department of State, whose interest is to foster a dignified relationship with host countries. Simply put, American Spaces are cultural and information spaces with modern and state-of-the-art gadgets that help access information about the United States. This information includes education, student exchange programs, scholarships, grants, and access to over 4000 tertiary institutions in the US.

A paradigm shift to technical education in an ever-changing world is essential. Also, skills development, especially in this part of the world, would do the country a lot of good, considering the humongous existential challenges. Thus, there is a desire for the adoption of science. Technology. Engineering. Mathematics— STEM approach to education is one critical area the American Spaces hinged its objectives on. Another core and critical area is girl-child education and out-of-school children, which remains a central theme in northern Nigeria's development and cultural discourse.

Currently, there are 25 such spaces across Nigeria, 12 located in the northern part of the country. They include Kano, Borno, Nasarawa, Jigawa, Niger, Benue, Jos, Bauchi, Gombe, Sokoto and Abuja. Except for Abuja, Kano, and Bauchi, all spaces are located and domiciled at the campus libraries of universities in the states, providing both the Universities and off-campus host communities equal access to the facility.
American Spaces are pristine and equipped with modern learning gadgets. It offers various programs that can potentially create the next generation of thought leaders, change-makers, and innovative tech gurus. With a team of dedicated staff, American Spaces provides unfettered access, physical or virtual, to a wide range of innovative and skillful ideas, like Artificial Intelligence, AI, debates, and sociocultural footprint on freedom, democracy, and civic engagement. Others include engineering, computing, and literary insights.

To enhance accessibility, the spaces are primed on account of their productivity. Kano, Borno, Bauchi, and Sokoto have been in the American Space for over a decade and are accorded the status of the entire "American Space." While Nasarawa, Jigawa Niger, Benue, and Gombe states are accorded the status of "Window on America." Regardless, all spaces provide the same services, opportunities, and a unique platform for civic engagement, e-learning, elibraryUSA, and other learning mediums. It is essential to highlight that these spaces are all free. Nobody is required to pay a dime to access any of the American Spaces.

According to a 2022 UNESCO survey, Nigeria had about 20 million children out of school, making it the largest in the world. This included both primary and secondary. Although the Nigerian Universal Basic Education Board, UBEC, repudiated the report, facts on the ground seem to validate it. However, an independent education think tank, Research on Improving Systems of Education (RISE), reported in December 2023 that around 10.5 million children aged 5 to 14 years are out of school in Nigeria. This is a fair comparison to the UNESCO report, without unique and comprehensive data from the Nigerian authorities. This obtrusive decrease from the UNESCO report signaled a marked effort from authorities.

The menace of out-of-school children in northern Nigeria is worrisome. Statistics from some State's Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, put the figure at an alarming 60 percent, mainly primary education.
Nigeria's Minister of Education (State) lamented the growing number of North's out-of-school children last December. He said, "The rising figure of out-of-school children in Nigeria, particularly in the northern part of Nigeria, is unacceptable and disheartening. There must be concerted efforts to address and reverse the trend of this time-bomb phenomenon," he concluded.

This concerted and collaborative effort is where the American Spaces come in handy. As a matter of practicality, the North must speedily take advantage of these negligible and crucial
opportunities. At the moment, the sub-regional spread of Spaces could be an alternative to forestall the decline of school enrolment in the region. Take, for instance, the Northwest. American Space Sokoto, located close to the city campus of Usmanu Danfodio University, is strategic in many ways. The serene atmosphere offers a conducive learning environment and an ambiance that reflects reading culture. Community-based organizations, CBO, and community leaders could take advantage by organizing and partnering with the space for private class sessions for primary and secondary students.
In Kano, the Murtala Muhammed Library, on Ahmadu Bello Way, housed the American Space. With a robust alum, the space boasts a unique research, learning, and skill acquisition platform. Window on America Dutse, at the Federal University Dutse in Jigawa State, offers an opportunity for capacity building for both primary and secondary school teachers to enhance productivity and increase school enrolment.

In the Northeast, 2.8 million children face challenges accessing schools or are forced to stay out of school. This is a result of conflicts spanning over a decade. The American Space Maiduguri and Window on America Gombe, located at the University of Maiduguri and Gombe State University, respectively, are the needed platforms to increase school enrolment through collaborations. Both state governments and education stakeholders should not ignore the significance of synergy with the Spaces. These Spaces exist for the benefit of the community. Since unsafe locations have made migration necessary, those involved in education should engage the spaces for areas of mutual benefit, which are countless.

The North Central states of Nasarawa, Benue, Jos, and Niger, have the presence of Window on America. In Nasarawa, the Window on America Keffi is located at the State's university in Keffi. With 24-hour internet connectivity and open to all, the space is a medium for exchanging ideas, information, and tech skills. It posed a link between the interiors of Nasarawa and the bustling communities at the fringes of the Federal Capital, Abuja. The space for Window on America Makurdi is located at the library of the Benue State University, Makurdi. It offers many exciting programs central to children's formative years. While the number of out-of-school children in North Central is relatively low compared to other regions in the north, economic challenges hamper school enrolment. Window on America Minna, located at the Federal University of Technology Minna, seeks to turn the tide through inspiring, innovative, and technology-driven programs.

Whether or not we agree on the actual figure, the exact number of out-of-school children in northern Nigeria should not form the basis for our discourse. It is not debatable. Once a region has myriad challenges—insecurity, economic deprivation, and insensitive leadership- the size and number of in-school children would stretch for apparent reasons.

The government can no longer bear the brunt alone, so bilateral agreements and partnerships are part of governance. The American Spaces in Nigeria exist explicitly to fill in this void. What remains is for thought leaders and community-based organizations in northern Nigeria to take center stage in securing an enduring partnership with the various spaces across the region to curb education and school enrolment challenges. A very crucial yet neglected aspect is the Alma Jiri system. We must either integrate the system into the mainstream education curriculum or have a stand-alone system that absorbs some elements of formal education, especially Mathematics, English, and technical education, alongside Qur'anic education at the various Tsangayas.

One central area of interest that American Spaces focuses on is girl-child education. This should ignite a hunger in us. UBEC statistics have shown that the north has fewer School-age girls enrolled in schools. It is pathetic.
The U.S. Embassy in Abuja provides small grants and scholarships for deserving girls with stellar performances in WAEC/NECO. These interventions and opportunities are out there, waiting to be explored. Yearly, thousands of girls in Southern Nigeria access and benefit immeasurably from such opportunities.

The spaces offer exciting and life-changing opportunities, including Skill Building, Tech Girls, EducationUSA, YALI, Bridge USA, Ambassador's Small Grant, Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Program, FLTA, Resources for Kids, and Exchange Program Alumni Opportunity. Stakeholders in education and parents should do well to take full advantage. These opportunities and interventions at the American Spaces in northern Nigeria await exploration. Waiting on a government whose priorities sharply contrast with our survival is a death sentence.

Nairaland / General / Dissolve Emirates, Return HRH Sanusi-kano Patriotic Front by kindnyce(m): 10:30am On Feb 27
Dissolve Emirates, return HRH Sanusi— Kano Patriotic Front.

A group, Kano Patriotic Front, has called on the Kano State governor, state house of Assembly to swiftly dissolve the five newly created Emirates and return to the old single Emirates system, with the HRH Muhammad Sanusi II returned as Emir. This was contained in an Open Letter sent to the Executive Governor of Kano state, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, and the Speaker, Kano State House of Assembly.

Addressing newsmen during a press conference in Kano, yesterday, the group's convener Mallam Yusha'u Hamisu, said, " in the first place, the creation of the Emirates and removal of HRH Sanusi was politically motivated and done in bad faith. It was not a collective will and interest of the good people of Kano. In fact, HRH remains the best thing to have happened to the Emirates system in Kano. He was a reformer. A teacher, and expert, a technocrat and key religious figure. He has a global network, which led to massive collaborations to turn the fortunes of Kano state. How would someone with such charisma and intimidating resumé be ousted"? He continued, " the balkanisation of the Emirates was done to serve the interest of a few persons. During the reign of HRH Sanusi, his leadership was exemplary, as he brought stability across the State. He ensured the right of the poor, the vulnerable, women and children were protected".
He continued, ' is is an undeniable fact, HRH Sanusi was s change maker, reformist, a transformational leadership expert, with vast and indepth knowledge of governance, economy and public policy. These are virtues every society needs. During his time, he was a vocal critic against injustice. He was an advocate of girl child education, an amazing proponent of the reformation of Almajiri School System, TSANGAYAS. He was a father to the fatherless. He was the voice of the voiceless. He was fearless. He spoke truth to power. He at numerous time flew to Abuja, (Villa) to speak for the entire northern Nigeria, not only Kano. He was an incorruptible and selfless leader. He was adamant about the rights of the common man. He broke the old Emirate norms and traditions to bring his people closer. Never, in the history of traditional institutions in northern Nigeria, had any Emir came down to level up with his subjects, like HRH Sanusi did. Unfortunately, those who wish to continue to suppress the voiceless were uncomfortable, and had to oust him through frivolous claims.
As such, we call on the PEOPLE'S Governor, Engr Abba Kabir Yusuf, as well as the Speaker Kano State House of Assembly, to swiftly move to restore HRH Sanusi and scrap the created Emirates.

Speaking at the same vein, the Secretary of the group, Barrister Nafiu Mustapha called on the State Assembly to expedite action on the matter, looking at several groups in the past had written to buttress their desire. He noted, " The Kano assembly is a lawmaking arm of government, their allegiance is to the good people of Kano who elected them. As such, they should do their bidding. After all, when the Emirates were created, and HRH removed, the Kano State government did not consult,or sought the opinion of KANAWA. It was a unilateral decision, which was politically motivated". He continued, " we will not rest. We won't relent, in fact, if our demands are not met, or addressed, we shall organize and mobilize our members to embark on a peaceful protest to the state assembly to air out grievances on this seeming delay'.

Barrister Mustapha concluded, " Kano has a rich history. And our history is our pride. The Kano kingship is over a thousand year. The Emirate system is over 200 years, why would someone's for political considerations disrupt our history and desecrate our institutions? We won't allow that".

Recall, in the past weeks, there has been calls from different corners for the reinstatement of HRH Sanusi, and abolishing of the new Emirates, by various groups within and outside Kano. Similarly, there also had been some who want the status quo maintained.

Nairaland / General / Don't Let Ex AGF Idris Off The Hook.. Group Urges EFCC by kindnyce(m): 7:58am On Feb 10
Don't let ex AGF Idris, off the hook......group urges EFCC.

A group, Southern Solidarity Forum, has hailed the resumed trail of former Accountant General of the Federation, Mr Ahmed Idris. Recall, Mr Idris is standing trial for corruption and misappropriation of funds to the tune of 106 Billion.

Speaking to newsmen during a parley with stakeholders and members in Osogbo, Thursday, the coordinator, Otunba Olagoke Fabiyi said " we have understood the antics of the former AGF. He was trying to be clever by half. How on earth will an educated individual, with his calling claimed to have made a statement under duress? It is inexplicable, absurd and nonsensical. To even have the effrontery to say EFCC deceived him into making his statement is laughable and childish".

Mr Fabiyi continued, " what we witnessed during the trail in court was a desperate attempt to ridicule the anti corruption fight of president Bola Ahmed Tinubu, through the resilience of the EFCC, under the chairmanship of Mr Olukayode. It must be understood that, the current leadership of the EFCC is seriously pushing to purge and rid the country of corruption, and avaricious activities of individuals like of Mr Ahmed Idris. Even the EFCC witness, one Mr Hayatudden, who is from the same place with the former AGF, confirmed, that Mr Ahmed Idris did make his statement voluntarily".

In the same vein, the Secretary of the forum, Ms Bisola Adeyemi faulted the slow pace of the trail. She said, " individuals like Mr Ahmed Idris should have been thrown in jail since. Because, he stole our future. Imagine, ASUU went on strike for about 6months, demanding for a little less than what the AGF stole. He was even fingered as one of the reason ASUU went on strike because of a fraudulent IPPIS, which he was a major beneficiary".

She continued, " his codefendants, should equally not be let off the hook. One wonders the type of consultancy services they provided which amounted to such humongous figures. These people had really toyed with our future".

Other speakers during the event hailed the renewed fight against corruption as timely. They urged EFCC to be dogged in their activities, and should not spare anybody, regardless of his position or status in the country.

The Coalition of APC Northwest Support Group, is keenly watching over the situation. As a group with equal stake in the development of democratic values, in Nigeria, it is imperative that we make the following statements, on election/inauguration Day.

1. The only pathway to the realization of Mr President's Renewed Hope, is through an assertive leadership of the 10th Assembly. The duo of Abass and Kalu are a definition of refined leadership.

2. Members-elect should not mortgage the future of their constituents, and the country. The balanced ticket of Hon. Abass and Ben Kalu, is formidable and conscientious. Everyone's should try to upheld it, so it comes to fruition

3. While every aspirant has the inalienable right to vie for any position, at this juncture, it would be counterproductive to have a divided and divergent interest. It will be politically expedient to lock horns, and jettison whatever interest other aspirations have, to unite and help produce a vibrant leadership, by supportive and voting the duo of Hon. Abass and Kalu.

4. The 9th Assembly, according to many analyst, was a rubber stamp pack of yes men. While the independence of the Assembly is critical to the overall development of the country, the president, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a known Democract, will engage and work in harmony with Abass and Kalu leadership, seamlessly, in line with democratic principle.

5. Both Hon. Abass and Kalu, as democrats will be engaging, transparent and have an all- inclusive 10th Assembly. The ability to unite, and bring on board different groups and interest will be the hallmark of their leadership, for purpose of stability and progess of the country.

6. The subsidy removal has disruption livelihoods, a vibrant leadership of the House of Representatives, of the 10th Assembly, under Hon. Abass and Kalu, will definitely chart a path to speedily bring succour and find a solution to alleviate the pains every Reps would want his constituents to enjoy.

7. Hon. Abass and Kalu, won't be a puppet, or run a lackluster 10th Assembly, HoR. The duo are independent minded parliamentarians, whose service will be to the generality of Nigerians, whom they consider their constituents.

8. Due to the diversity of the country, the need for balance and inclusiveness would have been addressed, when the duo of Abass and Kalu take over the mantle of leadership at the 10th Assembly, HoR.

9. In constitutional and representational Democracies the world over, the House of Representatives, has been the most fierce and engaging legislative branch, who always stand up for the common man. The duo of Hon. Abass and Kalu understands the enormity of the tasks ahead.

10. In all political contestations, there are bound to be winners and those who do not have their way. For a fact, both Hon. Abass and Kalu, are not vindictive. We certainly won't have a Win-lose scenario in the 10th HoR.

11. Most Members-elect, in a way, has a covenant with their constituents for a robust lawmaking and representation.
To achieve that, there must be a vibrant leadership of the HoR, which every Member has a moral and constitutional mandate to choose the Hon. Abass and Kalu, leadership.

12. As members-elect vote today, they should be aware that, the Asiwaju led government has hit the ground running. The NASS should not be seen as impediment to the progress, and gains made so far. It is a duty of all members to respect and appreciate the fact, Nigeria's interest is over and above anyone's, and therefore should work to produce a team that will meet the expectations of their constituents, Nigerians and the world at large. And such leadership, without doubt, is the mold of Hon. Tajudeen Abass and Benjamin Kalu.

13. As Members-elect vote today, they should bear in mind that, there must be a stable country first, before any political actor can reap any political benefits. The stability of a country, rest partly in the legislative duties to complement the Executive. Therefore, Nigeria is in dire need of policy direction, and need a stable legislature. At the moment, the most prepared for such task is Rt Hon Tajudeen Abass/Ben Kalu.

14. We must commend some members of the G-6, particularly Hon. Mukhtar Aliyu Betara and Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, for the spirit of sportsmanship, maturity and patriotism. For agreeing to support Hon. Abass, is a sign of political expediency. We call on other members to follow suit, in the best interest, unity, development and progess of the country.

15. Today, Nigeria's future looks promising, with the new administration of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The vibrant leadership, of the HoR, which can be achieved through the joint ticket of Hon. Abass/ Kalu, will further consolidate the gains made so far, where investors will flock the country.

16. Time for partisanship is over. The interest of the country should supercede any other factors. Because, the task before the 10th Assembly is huge. A united ticket of Hon. Abass/ Kalu guarantees the new vision and resilience in leadership and nation building.

17. It is judgement day today, we urge all Members-elect, to as democrats, demonstrate in practice the principle of internal cohesion by aligning with the ticket of Hon. Abass/Kalu, to make the process flourish.

18. Members-elect, should understand that, The House of Representatives, in all Democracies around the world, is a vibrant arm, which mars or makes a country. In recent times, there has been calls to have a single Legislative arm of government, which is the HoR.
This is a Vote of Confidence. Members should unite and make the House Leadership more alluring. The Hon. Abass/Kalu is sure path to achieve that.

19. By his nature, Hon. Abass is calm, unassuming and charismatic. He won't be vindictive. As Speaker, he will carry along everyone, regardless of party affiliations. Himself ànd Hon. Ben Kalu are team players.

20. Lastly, as members-elect goes to Vote today, they should be reminded that, posterity and history will always be the ultimate judge. Members-elect should see through the goodwill President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is enjoying so far, from Nigerians, and work with him to reposition the country. This can only be achieved with the help and support of a great National Assembly, in which in his wisdom, settled for the people's choice of Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abass and Benjamin Kalu.

The Coalition of APC Northwest Support Group, as good governance think Thank, won't lay down its guard, as it is just a Day before inauguration. We are compelled to make the following statements.

1. There must be a stable country first, before any political actor can reap any political benefits. The stability of a country, rest partly in the legislative duties to complement the Executive. Therefore, Nigeria is in dire need of policy direction, and need a stable legislature. At the moment, the most prepared for such task is Rt Hon Tajudeen Abass/Ben Kalu.

2. We call on other members to follow suit.

3. Nigeria's future looks promising, with the new administration of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The vibrant leadership, of the HoR, which can be achieved through the joint ticket of Hon. Abass/ Kalu, will further consolidate the gains made so far, where investors will flock the country.

4. It is just a day to the inauguration of the 10th Assembly, we call on undecided and aggrieved Members-elect, to coalesce and join forces to actualize the Hon. Abass/Kalu ticket, which signifies unity and progress.

Nairaland / General / Coalition Of APC Group Drum Support For Abass/kalu by kindnyce(m): 9:08am On May 24, 2023
Press Release

Why The Tajudeen/Kalu ticket must be be Sustained!

By

Coalition of APC Northwest Support Group

In a representative democracy, citizens participation in politics is vital to the sustenance of democracy, both as a process, and an institution.

It is no surprise, as the leadership tussle of the 10th National Assembly gathers steam, so is citizen's involvement in process. Although, the process of selecting the next Speaker of the 10th National Assembly is the exclusive prerogative of members-elect, but, as citizens, with equal stake, it is democratic to watch over the process, as events unfold.

The leadership of APC, the NWC, had endorsed candidates for the 10th president of the Senate and House of Representatives. As expected, Speakership aspirants who lost out in the zoning arrangements opposed with stiff resistance such pronouncements. That in itself is a democratic culture. Conceding defeat, in any political contestations is one of the most difficult act.

Regardless, it should be done with decorum and tact. But, the open threat, by those who lost out,to dump the party and engage in anti-party, to revolt against the party by means of colluding with the opposition to install a leadership, is such a brash and total neglect to supremacy of political party.

The Coalition of APC Northwest Support Group, is keenly watching over the situation. As a group with equal stake in the development of democratic values, in northern Nigeria, and the country in general, decided to weigh in on the conversation by make the following pronouncements.

1. Hon Tajudeen Abass, the party's endorsed candidate has whatever it takes to be speaker of the 10th House of Representatives. Having come from the region which gave the APC the highest number of votes(North-west), of 2,652,824, it became imperative and justifiable to do so, morally and politically.

2. Hon Tajudeen Abass, currently the House Committee Chairman on Land Transport, has been in the House since 2011. He is a ranking Member with vast experience. He served in different committees which include, National Planning & Economic Development, Public Procurement, Social Duties, Defense, Finance and Commerce. He equally served as Vice Chair, of the all important Legislative Compliance Committee from May 2011 to May.

3. The highpoint of Hon. Tajudeen Abass's parliamentary service to the nation, was evidently in the 9th House of Representatives. He set the record of a Member with the most Bills. He sponsored 74 of such Bills, out of which 21 were signed into law by the President, Muhammadu Buhari.
Such milestone is unprecedented, and speaks volume of his legislative prowess. So, if experience was the yardstick to gauge one's performance, Hon Abass has enough of it.
He understood the tempest and complexity nature of the House of Representatives, having being there for 12 unbroken years. As such, he will be a Speaker, for all Nigerians, regardless of creed or political leanings.

4. Though calm and unassuming, Hon Tajudeen Abass is a transformational leader who has the needed capacity and capabilities to steer the affairs of the 10th National Assembly, as Speaker. Being combative, loquacious and flippant does not define transformational leadership of such an all important democratic institution.

5. Hon Tajudeen Abass is a suave and cosmopolitan lawmaker. He is in tune with the dynamics of the Nigerian State. His relationship with colleagues from other region, and different faith is reassuring to the point where we shall see a vibrant 10th House of Representatives, under him.

6. Hon Benjamin Kalu, the party's candidate for Deputy Speaker, from South-East is a resourceful and vibrant parliamentarian. Having come from the South East, his choice for DS, will address the issue of inclusiveness, marginalization, faith ànd balance of political power.

7. Hon Benjamin Kalu, as spokesperson of the 9th Assembly, is well grounded in parliamentarian activities.
Within the short time spent in the House of Representatives, his trajectory of excellence legislative service to the nation is commendable. He sponsored over 40 Bills. Some of which were equally signed into law by the president of the country, Muhammad Buhari

8. As spokesperson and image maker of the 10th House of Representatives, the tedious task was very demanding, yet Hon Kalu combined with precision his mandate to his constituents, and service to fatherland.
That he won reelection, in a hotly contested polls, in southeast despite the strength of the opposition is a remarkable ante.

9. That the party admitted to not consult widely, is equally democratic, it shows the APC is a democratic and progressive political institution.
But so far, the Tajudeen/Kalu ticket should be sacrosanct and cast in steel, because it is a balanced ticket which address all issues and concerns.

10. The Tajudeen/Kalu ticket, remains the formidable game changer for a robust lawmaking and leadership of the 10th House of Representatives. Both individuals come with immense experience, capacity of service delivery and competence.

11. We call on the president-elect, governors, APC NWC, stakeholders, opposition to preserve and sustain this zoning arrangements,(Tajudeen/Kalu ticket), while fine-tuning means of addressing grievances of those who lost out. After all, enough will go round.

10. Both Hon Abass and Kalu should, continue to reach out to colleagues, mend fences, make concessions and capitulations in the interest of peace, fairness and unity of the country.
In the spirit and greater unity of the country, all aggrieved Members, should tread with caution and call their teeming supporters to order, to align with party's decision.

Lastly, Hon Abass and Kalu, should be guided by the spirit of reconciliation, and be Speaker & Deputy Speaker for all Nigerians, regardless of class or differences, to ensure the Asiwaju mantra of a Renewed Hope, is sustained, implemented and achieved, inorder to build a Nigeria of our dream, where prosperity, peace and development will reign supreme.

The National Chairman
All Progressive Congress APC
Blantyre Street Wuse, FCT Abuja.

Rt. Hon. Makki Yalleman is a firm Believer in Party Supremacy, drum support for Tajudeen/Kalu ticket

In any political contestations, political party is supreme. In every modern democracy, Political parties organize politics, which is what induces and strengthen democracies and make it flourish. The supremacy of party politics cannot be overemphasize, because,
Political parties select candidates, Mobilize voters, Facilitate governance, and lastly, Monitor the opposing party when it happens to be in power

As s group of staunch APC supporters from the the northwest, we want to uphold the principle of party supremacy, by aligning with the decisions of the National Executive Committee NEC, of the APC, which is the highest decision making body. The zoning arrangements as announced is not only timely, but commendable.

As s group, which had worked assiduously for the emergence of Rt Hon Abubakar Makki Yalleman, to emerge Speaker of the 10 House of Representatives, we want to make the following categorical statement.

1. Hon Makki is truly a devout party man, a team player who understands and respects party supremacy.

2. Hon Makki is the first to shelve, or set aside his Speakership ambition in total respect and loyalty to the decision of the party.

3. Despite his home state of Jigawa (Northwest Zone) contributing huge number of votes to ensure victory for the party, and being eminently qualified, to him party's unity comes first.

4. Hon. Makki, in the spirit of sportsmanship has personally reached out to the endorsed candidates, Hon Abass and Hon Kalu, and congratulated them and promised to work for their victory.

5. As a peace loving and amiable parliamentarian, he underscores the significance of national unity and cohesion have been at the forefront teaching out to aggrieved members, who seemingly lost out to see reason and work for the success of the party.

6. The dust raised by the party's decision is threatening and seek thwart its victory. Reports of an alliance between some rogue or aggrieved members of our party, was one reason Hon Makki has been working hard to make them see reason and stick to the party.

7. Hon Makki, as a true democrat and an açcomplished parliamentarian, understand the challenges before the country is beyond leadership of National Assembly. In a Representative Democracy, any elected member, regardless his position can bring unprecedented succour via astute legislation to his immediate constituents. You don't have to be Speaker, to make meaningful impact on your constituents.

8. Hon Makki, as a mark of honour remain among the few Reps Member who has immense respect for his governor, HE Muhammad Badaru Abubakar who is a founding member of the APC. Therefore, will not be party to jettison its zoning arrangements.

9. Hon Makki's unique style of representation, especially youth empowerment and engagement remain one of the best, as it was all inclusive.

10. Hon Makki is no doubt, a shining light in the 9th Assembly. He has to his credit, numerous landmark Bills he sponsored and several others he co-sponsored. He has made his mark, both in and out of the Lower House, and has a greater propensity to even do more in the 10th Assembly.

11. Hon Makki, has distance himself ànd wont be party to an form of protest, revolts and unholy alliances with either the opposition or any other interest, outside the purview of party decisions.

Lastly, as a group, we want to congratulate the endorsed candidates, Hon. Tajudeen Abass, and Hon Benjamin Kalu. We equally call on everyone one to set aside their interest and work for the unity and victory of the party, to make the 10th Assembly and country a better place.

Politics / Group Mounts Pressure On APC Stakeholders To Declare Support For Rt Hon Wase by kindnyce(m): 8:16am On May 04, 2023
Group mounts pressure on APC stakeholders to declare Support for Rt Hon Ahmed Idris Wase, as next Speaker.

Nairaland / General / Naira Redesign: Buhari,a Villain Or Hero by kindnyce(m): 7:09am On Feb 23, 2023
Naira Redesign: Buhari; a villain or hero?
By
Abdullahi D Mohammed

As expected, the CBN Naira redesign policy had provoked and, indeed ignite a thunderous conversation, across the country. With only few days before the presidential polls, the conversation had shifted and got a lot more traction than the election itself.
When the CBN, announced, last October, it has redesign the currency, and by 31 January, 2023, old notes would cease to be legal tender, many were skeptical and never took them serious.

For all intent, the policy had visited an untold hardship on Nigerians. For a fact, it had. But, could the CBN policy be without merit?
Countries around the world, at some point, had cause to redesign their currency. Most financial experts are in agreement that, key factors, or determinants for changing currency, include, politics, economy, security and lot more. All of these are grim realities, staring at us.

For instance, if we take politics as factor, to explain the motivation, which informed CBN's decision for the Naira redesign, it won't be out if place. Because, contrary to public perception of President Buhari, as a political midget, with near zero understanding of economy and sociopolitical dynamics. Such perception is premised on inaccuracies. President Buhari, having ruled the country as military leader, in the 1980s, grasps fully the influence and impact of money in politics. Financial muscles almost always determine electoral victory, in the country. He is a victim, because lack of funds had denied him access to the presidency, each time he contested, since 2003. His victory and ascension to power in 2015, was a direct result of a merger, and fusion with moneybags, who bankroll his elections, including campaigns financing.

Vote buying, has been as old as elections itself in Nigeria, and Buhari knows this.
He had consistently promise to bequeath to Nigerians a credible, transparent, free, and fair elections, where every vote would count. With signing into Law, the Electoral Act, 2022, he made good his promise.
INEC, on her part has lived up to this task. The introduction and adoption of technology in the mould of BVAS and IReV, has indeed change the narrative. Politicians has only one option open -- Vote-buying. And it requires monstrous amount of cash. And the politicians were prepared and had loads of it. We had been inundated with news of security and intelligence report of some governors stacking government, as well as warehouses houses with cash, ready to buy vote. Little wonder, for the first time, a federal government policy is hitting hard, and having direct impact on both ordinary citizens, elected officials and political actors.
The intensity is so severe to the point, governors of same political party are rebellious, and locked in a fierce battle of supremacy, at the Supreme court, with a president who's a leader of the party.

If economy would be a premise, to explain the CBN Naira redesign, certainly, such policy is apt, and has short, sturdy unpleasantness, with long term benefits. Economies the world over prided themselves with a strong currency. Nigeria in the past seven years has been in and out of recession, leaving the economy bruised, and in a bad shape. Soaring prices of commodities, high tax regime, heavy exchange rate with the Dollars, and the planned removal of subsidy compounded and stretch the economy.

An American economist, Jeffrey Sachs, who propounded the "shock therapy" refers to the concept of figuratively shocking, or shaking up, the economy, with sudden and dramatic economic policies that affect prices and employment.
Nigeria's economy, at the moment require a sudden and realistic approach. The amounts of Naira in circulation, before the CBN policy was put at 3 trillion. So many fake and counterfeit money are in flow, as well. The cash crunch is taking its toll and hurting the economy, which experts believe the shock, would abate, with time. Sudden crash in prices of commodities, especially food, received mixed reactions. Some allude that farmers, were at the receiving end, but on the contrary, farmers had indeed sold their produce, long ago to middle men, who actually hoarded and expect bigger profits, unfortunately, they are now caught in the web of the policy.

For those who would adduce to security, as critical factor, which informed CBN's decision for the Naira redesign, might not be completely wrong. Kidnap for ransom, has been as profitable a business, as oil and gas. Some many organized criminal enterprise are neck deep into it. From North, to South of the country. It was so lucrative, no day passes, without someone being kidnapped. And the mode of payment is usually through loads of cash, running into millions. In the forest enclaves of the bandits, especially in northewest, security report has it that, billions of cash, obviously proceed of ransom payments are stashed in the forest. Now, with such monetary policy, monies stashed in there would be worthless.
Sadly, we have had instances where, even family members fake their own kidnap, inorder to get relatives pay ransom. In fact, cases of kidnapping, especially the past few months had drastically declined.

It was reported that, some ISWAP fighters, in Maiduguri/Monguno, highway,in Borno State, distributed, freely old Naira notes to commuters, obviously because the deadline, and the policy had affected their operations.
Security remains top among the existential threat in the country, if the "shock therapy" monitory policy is aimed at, and effectively curtailing cases of kidnapping and other criminalities, those arguing for the merit of the policy on security, are about just right.

In spite of the upheaval, confusion and uncertainties, for most part, the victim/beneficiary is the ordinary Nigerian, depending on his perceptive reasoning. Change and adaptation comes with a huge price. For whatever it seems, the sociopolitical dynamics in the ensuing drama is glaring. It is an epic battle of political gladiators, with the spectators (masses) looking in an astonishing awe. Some state governors, who had zero empathy for masses had now become their overnight mouthpieces.

Running to supreme court, which according to legal experts lack the jurisdiction, to challenge the presidency and CBN, is a well scripted Class Act. For instance, in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, stimulus intervention and palliatives meant for the same masses were diverted, and sold to highest bidders. Same governors looked away and remain aloof, while their states were almost overran by bandits, who fixed a parallel security and taxation system on citizens, in exchange of security. Never had they gone overboard, in a bid to bring succor to their masses.

In an act of desperation, same state governors, had openly chose the path of anarchy, by endorsing the continued use of old Naira notes, as legal tender in their respective states, citing supreme court pronouncements. But the court, according to experts in legal matters lacks jurisdiction, as all monetary policies are the exclusive rights of the president. In fact, it fall under the exclusive list. Those who disapprove of the policy, especially political actors, seemingly had an ulterior motives, which are disguised in the new found empathy and love for the masses.

While it is true, some opposition candidates, in this week's elections stand to benefit from the policy, the innate motives or ground upon which it was made should not becloud or obscure the long term benefits.
Even those who never saw anything good in Buhari, has now turn his apostles, and sing his daily praise.

We all are already caught in this web of hysterical cash crunch, with excruciating implications, which are surmountable. With perseverance, the storm will be over. But, Saturday 25th, is judgement and referendum day. Whatever ones inclination is, the ballot box offers a unique opportunity for soothing reprieve. Nigeria, is greater than any individual, group or interest.

Tinubu/Shettima G-ICC: SILAS AGARA, LEADING THE PATH FOR APC VICTORY!

By

Abdullahi Muhammad

The quest for a change of guard, of course, no less through democratic means is at the lip and mind of at least, all Nigerians.
The February 25 presidential polls, would certainly be an election like no other. The APC, and it's presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is facing a toxic elections, no thanks to the Naira crunch and the excruciating pain the policy is inflicting on the already strained economy'.

This leaves most of Asiwaju's various support groups, and to a very large extent, the campaigns in limbo.
But, so far, the same cannot be said of the Grassroot Independent Campaign Council. H E, Silas Ali Agara, National coordinator, of the council, has relentlessly piloted the campaigns, targeting grassroot, and harped on the need for sensitizing the most vulnerable segment of the population who are fed with half-truths, especially by the opposition, regarding the policy of the, CBN, an arm of APC led federal government.

Directors and members of various committees of the ICC, are charged to adopt a significantly different approach. The elections, obviously will be won and lost at the polling units. And the displeasure across the divide, would have a decisive consequences and outcome of the election. The Silas Agara - led ICC has compelled members to go grassroot, with the Operation Win your polling unit.

As it were, the battleground will be the masses/electorates, on one hand, and their comfort zone -- the polling unit, on the other. The success and failure, would largely depend on the operationalization of strategic concept put forward by the ICC.
While there are quite a number of mitigating factors in reaching every household, the recently launched App, by the council was a milestone. It would augment lost ground. The right message, in the App, would neutralize any mendacious appeal by the opposition.

The ICC, is a unified and focused entity. The inclusiveness it portrayed has reflected on the conduct of the campaigns so far. It is attuned with, and follow trends, both wards, state and national level.

The leadership prowess of the D-G, HE Silas Ali Agara has been a factor that keeps the ICC afloat and ahead in charting a path for victory for the APC. He is unassuming and accessible, these are some features embedded in the character of leadership.

The inchoative Naira policy, put forward by the CBN is having an incensed toll on the electorates. So, it necessitate the new strategy adopted by the ICC. It is a marvelous approach, because, eventually those bearing the brunt, would be relied upon for votes. Obviously, it is a race against time. And the ICC is in the forefront for that race.

Economic Recovery; Zainab S Ahmed must be commended!

By
Abdullahi D Mohammed

The global economy, no doubt, is in disarray, leaving governments and policy makers exasperated and forced to take proactive measures to mitigate the tide.

Nigeria is not spared as rising prices of commodities, diesel, aviation fuel and insecurity are roundly taking a hit at the economy. Exacerbated by the Russo-Ukriane conflict, global food shortages, according to the UN will inevitably lead to famine.

With Nigeria's rising debt, nonetheless, borrowing to fund critical sectors is nominally acceptable, but government must explore other avenues to shore up revenue.

The 5 percent hike in tax for voice and data, as announced by the Honourable minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, is one of such measure. And, expectedly it generated mix reactions.

First, minister of communication and digital economy, Ali Pantami obviously had his emotions becloud the entire purpose of the hike, in view of the current realities. The taxation system in the country has been anything but porous and ineffective, which led to the borrowing spree. Government cannot continue to borrow. At some point, we must look inward to raise funds to save the economy from imminent collapse.

Pantami ought to understand the impact and enormity of economic meltdown, especially on an Oil dependent economy such as Nigeria.
Furthermore, he must understand that, federal government consolidated revenue-to-gross domestic product (GDP) ratio at 7.5 per cent, at this point is about the lowest in the world. As such, a more realistic fiscal policy is needed to save the economy and put the country on path of recovery.

He must not try to extricate himself, and work at cross purposes inorder to depict a picture of a populist, or pro masses, while demeaning his colleagues, like Zainab Ahmed. We are aware, Nigeria's has one of the weakest tax policies in the world. It is about time, Nigerians make the inevitable sacrifices inorder to get the country out of the economic abyss.

Government on her part must do away, completely with fuel subsidy. Micro loans must be made available to deserving entrepreneurs.
Total diversification should not be anchored by mere lip service, rather through an enhanced and proactive actions, especially in agriculture. Interventions, like provisions of fertilizer to farmers at affordable rates should be championed. It will boost the agricultural sector.
No individual should be sacrificed for Nigeria's economic woes, and efforts to get it out of the doldrums.

The Honourable minister of Finance, Zainab S Ahmed, despite malicious attacks on her person, and deliberate sabotage, has been trudging through the difficult terrain, in a patriotic effort to reposition the country's economy.

Only recently, she was drawn into Governors/FEC squabble, and the politics of Paris Club refund. It is a needless distraction from her torturous journey to ensure Nigeria's full economic recovery, in the midst of global crisis, with grave consequences.

The Double tragedy of past two years -- Covid-19 pandemic and Russia-Ukraine War, has had devastating impact on world economy, of which Nigeria is also a victim. It takes a Woman, with steel-like nerves to even attempt to stay the course in bringing her country's economy back to life.

Zainab S Ahmed must be celebrated, not the other way.

He who seeks equity must do equity...... this according to Joseph Story, (1812-1845) a former Associate Justice of the US Supreme court.

Equity should be all inclusive, concise and deliberate with far-reaching, albeit positive consequences.
The past weeks had been nothing but intense horse trading and power play, in the ruling APC, obviously in the run up to the keenly anticipated convention, later in the month.

Of truth, the power configuration in the country hadn't favoured the north central geopolitical zone, since the return of democracy, in 1999. It was the most accomodating, yet neglected zone, politically at the center.

News filtering in about the party's decision to zone its Chairmanship position to the region is gratifyingly a pleasant surprise, which proved yet again the party has taken seriously internal party discipline and democracy. It is, I think, on the basis of equity, fairness and togetherness. That noble and conscientious decision will soothe frayed nerves, at least in the region which has been bamboozled with myriad of challenges -- Farmer-herder and religious unrest. The knotty Farmer-herder crisis, ostensibly cost the APC, Benue State, home to the fourth largest ethnic group in the country -- the Tiv.

What the APC stakeholders did was the first step in attaining some level of equity, the second is, take into consideration, the composition and cultural diversities of the region and support the ambition of the Two-term Benue Governor, Senator and serving Minister of the federal republic of Nigeria, Senator George Akume.

Senator Akume remains by far the most qualified for the Chairmanship position. His demeanor, charisma and administrative prudence stand him out from the pack. A loyal party man and team player, he has demonstrated his political dexterity when he defied all odds, as the ACN candidate, defeated the PDP candidate in their supposed stronghold for the Senate in 2011, and later emerge Senate Minority leader.

Sen Akume has been unapologetically pro people. He isn't cut for divisive politics and doesn't play ethnic, tribal or religious politics.

Sen Akume is a Statesman, a noble and fine gentleman whose love for the common man remains boundless.
All through his tenure as Governor, Benue hasn't witnessed the kind of divisive social interaction amongst diverse groups. The State was.made hospitable for all, peace and development was his goal, which he pursued tirelessly.

In 2019, his defeat was largely as a result of a well orchestrated campaign of calumny and propaganda using the unfortunate farmer- herder imbroglio, which the PDP maximized to their advantage.

An Akume candidacy will reflect the principle of equity and religious harmony. Party men and women in the region who belong to different faiths would heave a sigh of relief, for having a detribalized Party Chair.
It will also settle the question of inclusiveness and equity which, had in the past defined policies and politics in the region.
Senator George Akume, obviously does not carry with him political baggage and corruption tag. And hasn't any running battle with agency. His legacies as Benue Governor is evidently present. Interventions in both the health and education sector is so loud, students of College of Health Sciences at the state university in Makurdi won't forget in a hurry. In areas of agriculture, human development and infrastructure are tremendously visible and dwarfs every other Governor that succeeds him.

Since leaving Benue government house, till date, he has been actively involved in governance and formulation of policies for national development. He is progressively selfless, with charitable disposition across board.

If equity was partly reason why APC stakeholders zone the Chairmanship to the Northcentral, then it is imperative, to consider among other things, faith and interpersonal relationship, both of which are key component of leadership, at least reflectively in the region.

For equity and fairness, Senator George Akume should be supported by all, because, to him, the greatest investment is human development, regardless of region of faith. He has exhibited so, beyond doubt and can provide same as party Chair.
For true unity and development of the Party and nation, Senator George Akume remains the man to beat. He can do the job, and must be supported by all to get the ticket, inorder to put the country on the path of growth, honor and sustainable development.

Yemi OSINBAJO: A VP like no other, A candidate, like no other.

By Abdullahi D Mohammed 19-01-2022

Having a man, in the mould of the Prof OSINBAJO is a tall dream, only found in the land of fantasy because, it seems a bit far-fetch -- too good to be real. His CV is simply out of this world, and a rarity in the Country's political clime.

Osinbajo is in a class of his own. Unassuming and self-effacing, he doesn't carry the baggage like most politicians do. We have had instances where some past VPs get entangled in fierce power play, back in their home States, all in a bid to be relevant and take firm control of the State structures.
A quick look at scenarios in Kaduna and Adamawa States, when both Namadi Sambo and Atiku were Vice presidents showed how they engaged in power tussle.

Osinbajo kept his distance from Ogun politics. That was a pragmatic move. He exhibited his substance. He rather build bridges, across the Niger. Bridges of unity and tolerance. He is friends with everyone. No point making enemies, it's needless.

A testament to all of this was coming from a critical stakeholder, a two-term Governor of Niger State. What more can be said? Osinbajo is the answer.
Babafemi Ojudu attested to it, IBB, Emir of Daura, and thousands of beneficiaries from the MSME's which the VP directly supervised.

Coming of the VP will mark a turning point in Nigeria's political history. We mustn't go back to the old ways. We must make steady progress and consolidate on existing gains by the present administration which the VP is part of.

Every patriotic Nigeria who is passionate about its progressive would agree, the VP remains the viable option to a better and prosperous Nigeria.

Nigeria cannot go back to old ways. Regardless of party affiliation, competence should be the thrust upon which the presidency is built. If Nigeria needs rescuing, it's OSINBAJO, if it needs to assume a strategic position within comity of nations, OSINBAJO is definitely the answer.

Hon Musa Nuhu: Changing the Narrative of Representative Democracy.

By

Abdullahi D Mohammed

Partisan politics had circumvent core mandate which rightly should define what the concept of politics should be. Most often than not, mainstream politics is alternated and traded off with people-centered policies, in a representative democracy.

More so, the very ocncept of representative democracy is hinged on some 5 pillars which includes, proper representation, adequate advocacy, cognitive developmental policies, engagement and fiscal policy.
Once these threshold are met, democratic dividends are justifiably attained, because public service is a trust, between elected officials and constituents. Where there are no formal written agreement, the bond is unmistakably glaring.

In this part of the world, what played out is the reverse of what the book says. Our democratc experience and representative democracy is shallow. We copy the cosmetics of America's model of democracy, leaving out the core aspect which drives rapid development.
Although, we could make a case for our young democracy, which is being nutured, and still evolving.

Political actors, whom are rapidly catching up with the trend, by bringing unprecedented development to their constituents are quite few. Understanding the cardinal objective and workings of representative democracy is very crucial in governance.

In Katsina State, a crop of ardent grassroot and energetic political actors has emerged, since the return of democracy in 1999. One of those leading the charge is Hon. Nuhu Musa Abdullahi Gafiya, Member representing Kaita Local government.

Hon Musa has always been a grassroot man, in tune with the electorates and his constituents. He had definitively mastered the art of representative democracy both in practice and in context.
He was Chairman, Kaita Local government, where he performed exceedingly well, bringing some legacy project to his constituents, some of which are still in use presently.
His passion and pedigree are unmatched. These unparalleled and unique attributes of his were to propel him to deliver more, as his constituents urged him to contest the State assembly elections which he won.

As member representing Kaita, he is in a familiar terrain, he only continued where he stopped, as he does task which ordinarily should be the call of Senators or Federal House of Reps members. He brought more developmental projects with direct bearing on his constituents. He specifically targeted key areas like Education, Health, economic empowerment and security. Provision of school and developing healthy care centers were central to his policies.

Hon Musa held various strategic Committees at the House, the most significant was the Child Protection Bill, 2020. As Chair of that Committee, he fine-tuned major aspects of the Bill, which stalled its adoption since the administration of Late Umaru Musa Yar'adua, when he was Governor.

Unassuming, with an unblemished pedigree, Hon Musa stand out as a Man who knows his job, and is not afraid to get it done, as long as it affects the development of his constituents. A charitable technocrat, he understands the dynamics of governance at all levels.

Such a fine gentleman is needed in higher places -- Senator, Fed House of Reps, or even Governor, that way, he'll keep developing impactful and landmark policies which would positively changed the society.

Yemi OSINBAJO: Now that Tinubu has informed Mr President

By
Abdullahi D Mohammed 11-01-2022

Asiwaju Tinubu just told of his lifelong ambition of becoming President. Fine, as a Nigerian, he's imminently qualified. But there's a caveat. Does Tinubu fit perfectly into the present reality in the country? He further claimed to have the confidence and capacity to be President.
Does these variables alone determines what makes a better President?

Tinubu's credentials were inarguably his many feats in Lagos as Governor, some two decades ago. Interestingly, Prof OSINBAJO was part of that success as Asiwaju couldn't singlehandedly do it alone. He was Attorney general and commissioner of Justice, whatever success recorded by Asiwaju, Prof had a stake in it.

The dynamics of the country had changed, the realities and challenges too. Two decades down, the trajectory on politics and governance had taken a difficult path, ushering a more complex and critical scenario which equally requires sagacious approach to surmount it.

Prof OSINBAJO has been very much around, at least within the circle of leadership and comes to terms with daily realities of the country. Who then is in better position to understand the dynamics?

Nigerians would ultimately want a President that is alive to his responsibility, up and doing. A pragmatist who would turn things around having been in the center. Prof OSINBAJO fits in perfectly.

A President whose ability to take a bullet for the Young, the entrepreneurs, the Market women, the Farmers, the Old and vulnerable is what we need, and in Prof OSINBAJO, we have found that.
As Chair, National Economic Council, his many interventions for MSME, helped stimulate economic growth and saved it from imminent collapse.
Prof OSINBAJO has wittingly stabilized that sector by paying due attention to it. The testimony to that is evident.

Nigerians are desirous of working President, because OSINBAJO has a work in progress. He is undoubtedly in a better position to consolidate, and build on, by bringing innovative and fresh ideas to governance.

Now that some mischief makers are harping on some obscure "Moral" issues on why Prof OSINBAJO should not run against Asiwaju, we must resist that ploy to deny Nigerians the best thing to ever happen to them, as far as prudence and accountable governance is concerned

Yemi OSINBAJO: The Sound is Growing Louder!

By
Abdullahi D Mohammed 9-1-2022

As the New Year begins, it comes with new vigour and hope, in a state of seeming hopelessness.
Every New year often ushered distinct perspectives and prerogative, depending on individual's state of mind.

For Nigeria however, the consensus reality is -- the nation needs a new approach, fresh ideas, real change, sense of pride and nationalism, and, above all, national rebirth. All of these indices are indicative of making a great nation.

The Buhari/OSINBAJO administration had started the journey of getting these indices right, some 7 years ago, in 2015. But, time as usual isn't a luxurious piece. With the New Year ushering hope, it also offered Nigerians a wonderful reason to heave a sigh of relief -- eve of 2023 elections. It would be, the redemption year, a moment to reap years of patience and perseverance.

Make no mistake, amidst the hullabaloo and political intrigues, Nigerians are a shade wiser. Every sane mind knows who among the packs eying Aso Rock is best and meant well for the country.

Prof OSINBAJO come top of the list, for obvious reasons. He would champion the drive for national development and sustainable policies. As VP, he has come in contact with stark realities of a sick nation, and ultimately found solutions to its ailment. No one can deny the positive take-aways from this administration. Major policies the administration embarked upon had long-term benefits, which some Nigerians do not have the patience for its candour.
Prof OSINBAJO, is a natural successor to see to the end, such positive and impactful landmark policies. And there are numerous of them.

In a moment of uncertainty, every discerning Nigeria knows the country will be in better hands, with OSINBAJO as the driver.
A core family man, and man of many accomplishments, Nigeria has never had it this good, the rare opportunity to have OSINBAJO as a contender and front runner.

From the sleepy town of Wukari, to the Rocky plains of Jos, down to the creeks of the Delta, up to City of the caliphate, to the Coal city and down to Center of Excellence, the message keeps resonating, a message of hope, of Prof OSINBAJO.

Nigerians are united on the choice of the VP. From the elites to the citizens, no one can deny the fact he's the much touted messiah. If OSINBAJO had not been tested, and entrusted with leadership position in the past, it would be permissible to be doubtful of his capabilities.

Beyond politicking, no candidate as it were, has close to what the VP got. He's a rare and priceless gem. A good product sell itself, therefore minimizing and eliminating any form of competitiveness.

It has become incumbent upon those who seek change, and in fact everyone, to take the OSINBAJO message, and loudly to every corner of the country.

It is not a question of region, religious leaning or political affiliation. It is rather about redemption and national rebirth.

And only one Man has such Unstoppable Mandate. Prof OSINBAJO!

Yemi OSINBAJO:The Economic Maestro!
By
Abdullahi D Mohammed 23-12-2021

In time of economic downturn, especially such as Nigeria's, where multiple challenges, seemingly seek to overwhelm the authorities, only a hypertonic solution could salvage such moments. And equally, a prudent captain is required to steer the ship out of harms way.

Yemi OSINBAJO, has, over time proved his mettle, to be a good captain who can take the country to higher ground.

What then is the magic wand? Simple. Create jobs and stimulate economic growth by developing an elaborate middle class through Small and Medium scale Enterprise.

Prof OSINBAJO has been busy walking the talk, and in a big way. As Chair, National Economic Council, he overseas and ensures fiscal policies, and the implementation of strategies on developing the SMEs.

Since the engine room of economic prosperity is SMEs, the VP has relentlessly pursued with vigor, policies and programs targeting small businesses.

Various interventions, like creating Business Hubs, ensuring soft loans, advocating for lower taxes for small businesses. In fact, the zeal and passion within which His Excellency supervises various SMEs-related programs shows where his passion lies - economic growth of Nigeria.

Never in our recent history have we had such bank of ideas and patriot as a VP. We would be even luckier if we collectively work to have him as President, come 2023.

Most will agree, part of the challenges we face today, especially in northern Nigeria is PARTLY economic. An agelong proverb, "an idle mind, is a devil's workshop", readily comes to mind.

Creating an atmosphere of prosperity and tranquility is possibly, very possible. Once we create a working middle class, through an effective Small and Medium scale Enterprise system, where virtually everyone is engaged, we could have a country we crave for.

It's no magic. Nnewi town in Anambra and Aba in Abia states respectively has proven to us its workability. Kofar Wambai, in Kano too.

The VP has identified such vision, and, many more. Which is why he hammers on the need to continually create and develop the SMEs.

His economic prowess is limitless. Each time he acts as President, the economic pulse of the nation changes, at least, for as long as he served.

Any discerning mind, against his vision for the country is obviously an enemy of economic prosperity of Nigeria.

Indeed, Prof is an economic maestro, the archetype who would get the country on the path of economic prosperity, peace and development.

Let's key in to the Unstoppable Mandate, 2023.

Great orators are gifted good leaders. And we have seen that manifest in the life of Yemi OSINBAJO. In most fora, expect in some rare, but exceptional cases, the VP almost always delivered his speech without recourse to a prepared written speech.

This sort of intelligence, usually comes with a very high IQ. Mental alertness is key to being a good leader. It makes one to often remember small, but important details.

At crucial moments of decision-making, intelligence played out, therefore helped in moulding or shaping whatever inherent decision.

Existential threat the country is faced with could have been evaded, at least with the requisite approach.
Many people marvels at the natural ability with which VP executes most policies seamlessly in that capacity, without attracting negatives.

Yemi OSINBAJO, is obviously not in a race with anyone. He moves at his pace, subtly achieving his core mandate, with less noise. His works speaks for him, matter-of-factly in volume. He is an achiever, the sort Nigeria needs right now.

He doesn't seem to carry the dirty baggage associated with Nigeria's political class. He is out of this world -- a world full of misdemeanors. He is simply a rare gem.
A good product doesn't require or pass through the rigours of competitiveness, it sell itself.

His Excellency, Yemi OSINBAJO, is our product, a fantastic one at that. Nigeria is indeed lucky to have him as VP, and would be luckier to return him as President, come 2023.

Nigerians should not make the mistake of returning to old ways, we must remain focused and resolute, forward ever!

A sound, vibrant and intelligent SAN, is ours to take. An astute and shrewd administrator is at our disposal. An intellectual, with vast understanding of governance, is on the table. A detribalize unifier and bridge-builder, a man of peace is staring us in the face.

Let's get it right, this time, at least for the sake of posterity.

2023, is the year for redemption of Nigeria, by Yemi OSINBAJO.

Never, at least in Nigeria's modern history, had any individual with OSINBAJO's substance occupies the VP position. The position had been viewed by many as a necessary "spare tyre". The bulk, will and always rest at the table of the c-in-c.

The duo of PMB and PYO, due to trust, mutual respect and vibrancy had bonded so well, which gave impetus to sparks we see at the office of the Vice President, today.

On his part, Yemi OSINBAJO brought to the office, unarguably, his intellect. Unassuming, calm and charming, he accomplishes a hitherto complex and tricky tasks.

Unity, which is the only fabric that propels nations to become great is what the country need. Yemi OSINBAJO has been a chronic unifier, who at any given fora would not shy away from this necessary advocacy -- Unity.

As Nigeria is currently enmeshed in series of daunting challenges, only intellectualism, with a blend of political will could salvage the situation. And luckily, Yemi OSINBAJO has both.

He has demonstrated his ability to tame and conquer whatever is seen as monster. Political landmines planted on his path, were effortlessly effaced.
Taking up formidable and known Nigeria's foes isn't a piece of cake. It requires deep and profound intellect.

For long, Nigerian elites has, continue to explore, and sustain the fragile unity in the country, for political gains. Instead of unifying, they're undermining and further dividing the country along ethnic and religious lines.

Yemi OSINBAJO, remains the most viable option in ensuring harmony, progress and rapid development, all of which is not possible without requisite unity.

The God-fearing Prof can intellectually address the North-South unity debacle. Once this elusive harmony is achieved, Nigeria, with all its potential will take its rightful place, among the comity of nations.

Yemi OSINBAJO epitomizes, Brain and Beauty!
And, 2023 is a year of redemption for Nigeria, because, OSINBAJO is coming, with an Unstoppable Mandate!
