EducationRe: "I Scored 300+ In JAMB 2024... But UNILAG Rejected Me – The Real Reason by kingbigfish2005(op): 7:05pm On Jan 14
It seems I overlooked something in my post, which was the catchment area system stuff. Thanks for the correction. I did a little rephrasing with AI to avoid grammatical errors then I overlooked that catchment area system stuff, but nevertheless, the main idea should not be overlooked, which is that applying to a university in your region gives you a better guarantee of getting admission.
Once again thanks for the correction the post has been updated
Education"I Scored 300+ In JAMB 2024... But UNILAG Rejected Me – The Real Reason by kingbigfish2005(op):
I scored above 300 in JAMB 2024. I was sure I was getting into Computer Engineering at UNILAG. My name wasn't on the list.

I was crushed. But then I found out why,and it’s something a lot of people don't talk about.

UNILAG's catchment is the Southwest (Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, etc.). If you're not from there, you're fighting for fewer spots against everyone in Nigeria. The competition is insane.

Here's the painful truth: Even with my 300+, I didn't get admission. The reason being that merit list is considered first then catchment next,to get admission by merit list you are basically competing with everybody in Nigeria applying to that university ,so the chances of admission is very slim ,but if you fall under catchment there is less competition and even if you don't get your desired course you would likely be given a new course ,this is what I wish someone told me before I made my choice of institution

My advice to you (so you don't end up like me):
Choose a university in your own region.

· Are you from the East? Look at UNN, UNIZIK, FUTO.
· From the West? UNILAG, UI, OAU are for you (if you're from their catchment states).
· From the North? Focus on the great schools in your zone.

This is the smart move. You'll have a better chance, the cut-off marks will be kinder, and you won't be stuck rewriting JAMB for years.

EducationFree Weekly JAMB Quizzes & Topic Posts For Science Students by kingbigfish2005(op):
Good day everyone,
I'm a part-time tutor teaching Physics, further Maths and Chemistry to SS students currently a student of Federal Polytechnic Nekede (studying Computer Engineering). I scored 302 in JAMB 2024 (highest in my school), so I understand the challenges many Science students face in JAMB prep.
I started Book Block Telegram channel as a volunteer organization completely free, no payment received or paid . It's just to help JAMB students improve.
How it works:
Every Sunday: New topics posted in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology, following the JAMB syllabus. Study them during the week.
Every Friday: Timed quizzes using @quiz bot — 30 minutes per topic, 2 subjects per hour (1 hour total). This helps practice time management, which is very important for JAMB.
No fees, no prizes for winners just practice and improvement. The channel is still growing, but I post consistently every week.

To join search for (Book block Official) on telegram

I'm also looking for volunteer moderators/admins to help with quizzes, posts or management. If you're interested and love JAMB prep, DM me.
Science students preparing for JAMB 2026, feel free to join and invite your friends. Topic suggestions or feedback are welcome here or in the channel.
Let's aim for that high score!
Thanks and God bless.
