The most financially successful set of people in the world today are entrepreneurs. I stand to be corrected though, But Forbes agrees with me on that. This financial success in entrepreneurship is driving a large population into becoming entrepreneurs. Who wouldn’t want to be rich? Not me if you’re asking? Lol. But there are important questions you should ask yourself before diving into entrepreneurship. Not everybody is cut out for the stress and sometimes torture that comes with starting and running a business. Some people are just better off working at a job, sad but true. business www.kingdien.com The world of entrepreneurship is not a bed of roses, it can’t be your easy way out of hard work. To be a successful entrepreneur, you have to be ready to put in the work, extra work at that. Entrepreneurship can drain you emotionally and physically. Here are some reasons a start-up might not succeed. Short sightedness The first book I read this year, how they started, highlighted the story of 25 start-ups. Most of this start-ups were not profitable for about one year, or even two years after they were established. Most people start up an enterprise and expect it to start yielding capital on the first day of launch. I don’t think that’s how it works. Entrepreneurship is not a get rich quick scheme. If you want to start, you need a long term mind-set. You have to establish the fact that your business might take a while to become profitable and you have to prepare yourself for that. A successful business is one who has the trust of its customers and clients, and trust takes time and sacrifice to build. But if you want to start making the profit ASAP, it means you might have to start cutting corners, and that’s bad for business. Don’t be deceived by the successful lifestyle most entrepreneurs live, their success was built over time. Starting because you’re tired of doing 9 – 5 Most people start their own enterprise because they’re tired of doing 9a.m to 5p.m jobs. You want to start working lesser hours and you think your new enterprise is the best place to do that? Stop hallucinating my friend. It’s your enterprise now, you don’t have a fixed salary anymore. What you get is what you put in. you should be ready to put in more time into your own start up. Relaxing and taking time off from your business is something you can afford when you now have a fully systemised business. When you read about the lives of most successful business people, they had days they had to sleep at the office. Wanting to live a glamorous lifestyle Most people go into business because they envy the glamour around the life a business person, and they launch their own business simply because they too want the glamour of running a successful business. Don’t get me wrong, I want the glamorous lifestyle. But at the initial stages of your business, that kind of lifestyle shouldn’t be your priority. You might at the initial stages keep re-investing most of your profit so you can grow fast. I heard an entrepreneur answer the question, “why is your business so successful”? His answer was simple, “have a rich mind-set and a broke lifestyle”. In my opinion, a legacy entrepreneur (an entrepreneur who is in it to create a legacy) is likely to succeed over a lifestyle entrepreneur (an entrepreneur who is in it to live a glamorous lifestyle). No proper research A lot of entrepreneurs just put in capital into a business without proper analysis of the market they’re about to enter. Without proper research, you’ll make a lot of mistakes and some might be costly enough to cost you your business. A proper understanding of the business you’re about to venture into is key. When you do a proper research, you’re able to learn how to run your business effectively with the lowest possible cost. This is not to scare you away from entrepreneurship, but to arm you properly so you don’t fall into the wrong side of the statistics that says 80% of start-ups fail within their first 18 months. This is a continuation of an earlier post i did yesterday. Incase you missed that exciting post, you can check it out on http://www.kingdien.com/best-achieve-success-work-pt1/. However, Toby’s job after one year began to wear out because their seemed to be little details he didn’t pay attention to. The drainage system in his project began to collect dirt that was blocking the flow of water. And after two years, the firm had to revisit Toby’s site for maintenance. The road was beginning to get flooded and his road worn-out. Toby and his team worked every day as the day came. They just knew they wanted a standard looking road but didn’t pay attention to little details that would have made the road project stand the test of tome. All the hard work of Toby’s team fading away gradually with time. This project is still costing the owners with respect to heavy maintenance. Jay’s job stood the test of time and till today, the road is very much standard and pliable. He paid details to every detail, made research on modern standards regarding his project and at every point worked out a mental picture of what he wanted and worked towards achieving it. I wish you could open up my mind right now to see the present state of both road projects, that’s where you can find them, LOL. My first story though, hope you enjoyed it. Let’s delve into the main point of this article. Your best work is done when you are not working Sometimes we spend so much doing the physical work and working based on what our physical eyes can see. We neglect the power of meditation and quiet moments thinking about our projects, career, life and even relationships. We fail to realise that physical work should precede mental work. Mental work basically is about planning ahead and setting up targets and getting a mental picture of any project you are about engaging in. When you just focus on the physical side of things, there are details and facts you are blinded to because you only see with one set of eyes, your physical eyes. But when you do the mental work first, you see and observe with the physical eyes and a more powerful set of eyes, the eyes of the mind. Below are reasons why you need mental work before putting in physical work. Gives you time to access any potential risk When you spend time to look mentally work pre-plan your projects and career, it becomes easier to know the risk you are likely to face when you engage in the physical part of the job. When you know the risk involved, it makes the rest of the work easy. Makes you proactive The reason you might pause every now and then during a project is because you want to figure somethings out before you continue. But when you do your mental work before the physical one, you find yourself getting insight on what to do when you encounter a difficulty. You might have even envisaged that difficulty before it comes. You see yourself naturally overcoming challenges without much thoughts involved. It’s like you have done the work before when you first do the mental work. Gives you insight on every details that should be put in place during your physical work When you use your mind’s eyes to look at things, you see a lot of details that should be put in place before you even embark on the physical work. Opens your eyes to any mistake to your initial plan or work already done When you spend time pondering on any job before you embark on it, you begin to see loop holes in your initial plan. This gives you the opportunity to restructure your plans. But without this mental work, you find yourself having to go back. Thus maintaining a lot of you already done jobs and previous steps. Gives you room to work based on your own terms When you put in the mental work first, it gives you the opportunity to create your own unique pattern and ways of achieving your set target. You personally figure out easier and faster ways of getting even better results. Now it’s up to you to Learn how to spend time to meditate on your day before going to bed Spend time to plan your day before starting the day Learn to draw a mental picture of whatever you want to achieve Learn to draw a mental picture of how you want your life to be tomorrow, next week, next month etc. Get more inspiration on www.kingdien.com |
How to best achieve success with mental work, pt1 I hope that after this post, you will understand the importance of mental work. Their were two civil engineers, Mr Ray and Mr Toby. The both work for the same civil engineering firms and were employed the same day. Sometime in December 2015, Jay and Toby had an opportunity to prove themselves. The two senior engineers at the firm went on leave, leaving both Jay and Toby as the only engineers on ground. Jay and Toby were saddled with the responsibility to each take over the massive sites of the senior engineers who were no longer on ground. It was a big trial and test on the careers of both Jay and Toby. Both men met the respective engineers they were supposed to take over their sites for briefing and advice. Jay was taking over Engr. Steve’s site, while Toby was taking over Engr. Peter’s site. Both Jay and Toby were excited about taking on this challenge, they both went for briefing and got tips on how to handle their sites. How jay handled his site When Jay arrived his site for the first time, he had a team meeting. It was a 30 minutes meeting, Jay tried to know his team and introduced himself. He decided the team was going to be having a 15 munities meetings every Monday and Friday. On Friday the team will brainstorm on the challenges of the week, what should have been done and areas to be improved on. Most importantly they discoursed the parts of their jobs that should be revisited and everybody had a say even on parts of the project he wasn’t involved in but had concerns on. At the end of the Friday meetings, Jay will task every member to think about the week’s activity over the weekend and come with a brief report on how he plans to make the week better. But the last Friday meetings of the month were held off site and were for bonding. Jay’s Monday team meetings were about discussing what each team member was going to do for the week and his thought on the project over the weekend. Jay tried to make each team work with respect to his work plan for the week. Jay’s team was really united and motivated, this team actually spent time after the day’s job constructively criticising each other’s job and brainstorming on correcting defects the next day. Jay infused this mental work and planning ahead believe in this team and each member spent time looking at each phase of his job and mind mapping the next phase before physically involving himself in it. Jay spent a lot of time on research about his project and shared his findings with his team during meetings. How Toby handled his team Toby arrived his site on a Monday, met with his team, introduced himself and tried to know about his team too. Toby was a hard worker, sometimes when his team was under staffed, he had to join in the work. Toby’s team were motivated by his hard work and were ready to work over time to achieve targets. The team got in early and sometimes left the site late, they were having fun working for Toby. They had meetings every second and last Friday of every month. Their meetings were meetings for bonding. They hardly discussed their work in these meetings. Toby always worked around to draw each team member to anything he felt wasn’t done properly. Toby infused this physical work mentality into his team. They were a hard working team. Toby wasn’t the kind of guy who works based on intuition and hardly spent time researching and pre planning. Two months after working on this projects, it was time for inspections. Both projects looked good, they both did amazing jobs. They were both congratulated and given huge bonuses. Great days ahead for both careers. This will do it for today, tomorrw I will continue with how the results of both projects turned out. Also i will touch why Jay’s method is better than Toby’s method. It will be an exciting one tomorrow so dont miss out on that. Do subscribe to get an email update on tomorrw’s post plus I will be giving you an exciting gift when you subscribe. Subscribe to find out what it is, cheers!!! The world truly is twisted. Things just occur the way they are not supposed to. Connection instead of expertise is the new requirement for employment. The type of car you drive instead of your personality determines the level of respect you get. People have grown so cold towards their fellow humans and have turned their attention towards materials, things and money. People are now being used and things are being loved. I read a book titled “Inhumane” authored by a man I respect so much, Akinwumi Akinola. In this book he talks about the reasons people use people and love things. A very insightful, eye opening and inspiring a book that inspires you to overcome the littleness that comes from selfishness. After reading all I wanted to do was share the information and lessons contained in this book, I reached out to the author and he agreed the world needed these lessons and gave me the rights to share this book with you. I will outline lessons from this book. No sacrifice is ever lost Akinwumi Akinola shared a story from his school days. He heard about a scholarship and chose to share with his friends. They but one of his friends bought the form. This friend who didn’t was broke and couldn’t afford the form. Akin who only had less than the money he needed to survive till the month end decided to buy the form for his friend and let fate take charge. After the exams, those who got the scholarship began to receive congratulatory calls. Guess what, only the friend who couldn’t afford the form got the call. When he got to the office of the scholarship body, he saw Akins name on the board as one of the successful candidates. Akin had missed the call from the scholarship body. What would have been of Akin if he didn’t make the sacrifice of paying for his friend’s form? Every sacrifice is an investment, learn to sow a seed in people’s life not just that of your already well fed pastor. Don’t try to be everybody’s messiah People like me will always jump at any opportunity to help anybody without looking at the cost of the help I’m about rendering. At the end I find out I’m choking trying to render this help. I get heart broken when at the end I can’t do anything about the situation. But at the end everybody has a level of assistance they can render because we also have our own problem to cater for. Sometimes you see people focused on solving other people’s problem not realising that they are neglecting those who are their primary responsibilities. You should focus on your primary responsibilities, then try your best with all honesty to help others. Self-interest doesn’t mean selfishness We all have self-interest, and trying to look out for our self-interest doesn’t mean you are selfish. Akin in his book gave an illustration. If you are sent a group picture, who do you look out for first? Yourself of course. That doesn’t mean you are selfish. You become selfish when all you look out for is yourself. If you don’t care about any other person but yourself, then you are selfish. In summary, “INHUMANE” talks about how humans have downgraded themselves to using their fellow humans. There are many theories about creation and the origin of man. As a Christian I believe the version from the Holy bible. I will be basing my analysis on the biblical theory of creation. After God’s creation of the world, animals and plants, the world was really a beautiful place. Everything was almost perfect. But something was missing, coordination and leadership. God needed an authority higher than every other creation to be a leader and coordinate the earth, and give him report. So there was a need in God’s mind, there was a VALUE that needed to be added on earth, so he created Adam to satisfy that need and give earth the VALUE of coordination and leadership. But God realised Adam couldn’t handle this thing alone. He needed help and someone to tend to him. Once again, there was a need in God’s mind, he needed another VALUE to be added on earth. That’s how Eve came about. Things were going on so well, the world was a perfect place until Adam and Eve fell and were driven out of the Garden of Eden. God once again had a need and wanted another VALUE added, that value was a way for sins to be atoned for. He initially introduced the blood of animals to give man the VALUE for atonement for sin. But that wasn’t enough, so he had to send his son. Enough of the stories, now let’s get right down to it. This articles is about values. I did an article about VALUES a while ago, in case you missed that, you can go through it here. Here are my picks from the story I just told: The world isn’t perfect as it is, it’s a work in progress God is a master creator but he didn’t create a perfect world all at once. He takes his time to perfect his creation. The world wasn’t this developed a decade ago and won’t be this way a decade from now, lots of development will occur. Your life, your career and everything about you are not finished products. You should always work towards improvements and making your life better because no building is erected in one day. Life, business, marriage are all processes, just take it one achievement at a time, you’ll get there. It’s a work in progress. You were born to fill a need, give a value and fulfil a purpose The world needed a VALUE to be added to it, it needed a little bit of perfection, and hence you were created to give that particular value. Just like Adam and Eve had their various purposes on earth, you do too. God had a need, needed a VALUE to be added on earth, then he specifically designed you to add that value and close the void created by that need. Your birth was a master plan to create more innovation and perfection to the world. Yeah, you are that important to this world, you should be proud of yourself, clap for yourself, LOL. The summary of our purpose on earth is creating value. You get paid for creating value, you pay people who create value. What value are you supposed to create on earth? How do you discover your purpose? I did a post on that, read it here. My crazy theory “The world is in a state of ciaos because millions have walked and are walking through the world without dropping the values, innovations and the bit of perfection they were meant to drop”. A lot of gifts, talents and values that were supposed to better the world have been buried six feet under the ground. Those that are still on earth don’t even realise they have something to offer the world, they just live life on the surface. Do you plan to leave this world with your VALUES instead of dropping them even after reading this? It’s up to you to Find your value Learn how to make the world a better place Stop living life on the surface Don’t let anybody make you feel less important, he/she has a value, so do you, no value is more than the other Stop wasting and tying yourself down, get up and live. Jayroland:LOL, true. Inner piece sounds like film trick. But inner peace is real. All those spiritual things they do in movies to get inner peace is real. Steve Jobs went to India for spiritual cleansing and inner peace, even advice Mark the FB guy to do thesame because inner peace is neccesary to unlock your true self and potentials. My spiritual exercises for inner peace are done on my knees, praying to God. Some real mythical matters like you said. |
Good morning my people. So I thought i share this inspiring piece with you today Have you ever pondered on what your purpose on earth is? Have you ever wondered if you are chasing the right career, the right partner in marriage and the right dreams? If you have then you are not alone, I was there. I’m still there because every day I push for new and greater height, what if I’m pushing for the wrong thing? The grave yard they say is the richest place in the world because a lot of people there never found the answer to the question. “what is my purpose on earth?” You too might be working towards enriching the graveyard if you don’t find this answer. I’m not saying I’m going to answer this question for you, I’m saying that I want to awaken your consciousness to the fact that you have a purpose. One thing I fear so much is journeying through life and discovering that I didn’t do the things I was supposed to, talk about wasted years. At old age you will be hunted by the life you live today, discover your purpose and live a purposeful life. What’s my purpose you may ask? My purpose is to inspire and bring out the best out of people. It’s something I do so easily and naturally. When you bring out the best in people, you get the best out of them. I will touch some things that helped me and will help you too discover your purpose. Share and listen to people Have you ever heard people say, “you have the gift to…………”? People watch you, they listen to you and they know you. Someone might tell you something about what he/she thinks you do so well. You should pay attention to them. Sometimes you are blinded to your gifts and talents, but people are not, listen to them, ponder on their thoughts about your gifts. Your purpose can never be far from your gifts and talents. What is your passion? Who is your favourite actor, artiste or sports personality? These people make a fortune through their passion. Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are the best footballers in the world today and they have been for the past decade because their passion is their career. They love what they do. Even if Cristiano Ronaldo wasn’t making money out of football, I think even till his 20’s, he would have still been active in football in his community because I feel he is that passionate about the game. This man worked so hard to be what he is today, and hard work that comes through passion is like having fun. Find your passion, find your easy path through life. Find your gifts and talents Some adults don’t even know their gifts and talented. How did you choose your career path when you don’t know what you are talented in. your purpose in life lies within gifts and passion. You were created, built and designed to fulfil a purpose on earth, and your gifts and talents are the tools with which you can fulfil this purpose. Listen to your dissatisfaction Do you have dissatisfactions? What are they? What are your dissatisfactions telling you? If you feel dissatisfied with what you are doing, maybe you are in a wrong place. Sometimes you just feel dissatisfied with where you are and what you do and feel you should be doing something else. Maybe your dissatisfaction is pointing you to your purpose, listen to it. Finally: Package your gifts, passion and talents When you finally discover what your gifts, talents and passions are, you should package them and market them to the world. Some people spend years on different training, but later on they discovered a gift, talent or passion. They packaged and are marketing their giftings professionally. Once again, Your favourite musician, actor/actress, football star are all marketing their gifts, talents and passion and are all swimming in wealth living the good life. Be like them, discover your purpose. It’s up to you to; Discover your gifts Discover your talents Discover your passion Discover your purpose and live a purposeful life. Rock balancing is a rear and beautiful form of art. It is just a beauty to behold a pile of rocks just balancing on each other. Sometimes you keep wondering what holds each stone on the other, why are they not falling apart. Even after years after balancing, these stones remain on each other. I’m not talking about stones balanced on each other by nature, I’m talking about those balanced by humans. Some of this art are unbelievable. I first encountered this art from a friend and a talented artist, Darlington Wosa. When I asked him how it is possible to balance one stone on another, he gave a brief explanation, and his explanation triggered this article. Michael Grab was quoted in an article on twisted sifter, “The most fundamental element of balancing in a physical sense is finding some kind of ‘tripod’ (a three legged stand) based on its centre of gravity for the rock to stand on. Every rock is covered in a variety of tiny to large indentations that can act as a tripod for the rock to stand upright, or in most orientations you can think of with other rocks. By paying close attention to the feeling of the rocks, you will start to feel even the smallest clicks as the notches of the rocks in contact are moving over one another. Parallel to the physical element of finding tripods, the most fundamental non-physical element is harder to explain through words. In a nutshell, I am referring to meditation, or finding a zero point or silence within yourself. Some balances can apply significant pressure on your mind and your patience. The challenge is overcoming any doubt that may arise.” Here are some lessons I got from studying this beautiful and rear art What is your centre of gravity? Have you experienced something so magical that your only explanation was “this can only be God”? That is what your centre of gravity does for you. We all need that one supernatural being we believe so much in. Your entire world should revolve around your centre of gravity. My Gravity is God, my world revolves around him. I tap my inner strength from him. Balance your life around a Tripod Have you seen the movie “the best man holiday”? The footballer, Lance Sullivan was asked what the 3 most important things in his life were. “God, Family, Career” was his answer. And based on the movie, his life really revolved around these three things. For you to stand firm and grow in life, you have to decide few things, at most three to four things that are most important to you. If everything is important to you, you just find yourself everywhere doing everything, you don’t live an efficient life. Just like the rock rests on a tripod, and not on every indentation it has, you can’t have everything life has to offer, chose what’s most important. It is important that your tripod should revolve around your centre of gravity. My tripod are family, community, career and I relate with all three with respect to God’s will. Finding inner peace is necessary in achieving amazing feats Michael Grab talked about the non-physical component in rock balancing as finding a zero point or silence within yourself (inner peace). Most people go through life without inner peace. They are at war with everybody because they are at war with themselves. You need that inner peace to come up with grand ideas and harness those great potentials that lies within you. Patience is key in life When you look at these stones balancing on each other, you see patience at work. Do you realise how tough it is to learn rock balancing? You have to be patient to scale through. You need patience to make a rock stand on another. In life, in your career and relationships, you need patience. You can’t quite when things get tough and expect victory. Every achievements comes with its own challenges, you have to be patient and hopeful enough to scale through those tough times. Now its up to you to: Decide your centre of gravity Outline your tripod Find inner peace and Build your patience. Thanks for reading. you can find more inspiring articles on www.kingdien.com

Alot of us don't see a connection between personal values and wealth. The truth is that your values affect every aspect of your life including your wealth. your values create a reputation for you. Your reputation is what sells you, your product and services. Your values are the things that you believe in, those things guide the way you live, the way you interact with people, the way you do business, etc. If your values affect every aspect of your life, then it also affects the legacy you leave behind when you’re no more. I will be looking at values with respect to wealth. Yes, your values determine your wealth. Recently I made a small couch for relaxing at home and a small divider for decoders and DVD players. I patronised this roadside furniture maker, Wisdom. He delivered on the couch but sub contracted the divider because it was too big a thing for him to make. He was supposed to deliver on both goods in a week time as he promised. I got the couch a month after I gave him the job. Then I paid fully for the couch after delivery. After about 2 months I told him to refund my part payment for the divider because it was taking too long and his stories were not connecting. He apologised and agreed to give me my money. It’s over 4 months now and each time I call, his reply will be “oga I go bring am come house on Sunday”. If I call right now, I bet I will get the same response. I’m done asking for the money but he has lost a customer because I will never patronise him again. Plus his jobs were not professionally done. Wisdom has business values even if he might not even know what values are. I think his values are improper and might keep him on the roadside for a while making furniture. I will outline some things based on my encounter with Wisdom. The full article is on Recently I made a small couch for relaxing at home and a small divider for decoders and DVD players. I did a post about lessons i learnt from a hang-out with great some great entrepreneurs. I learnt alot from them, here is a summary of the post. I was at an entrepreneur’s hangout the other day. It was a very interactive section. Our coach, Akinwunmi Akinola was talking about generating and developing grand ideas. At some point the meeting became excitingly heated. We were all dishing out factors that hinders business start-ups, especially in Nigeria. We had people giving hindrances and those dropping solutions. I was mind blown with the passion I saw. Have you ever had a fear that made you so sick?? Of course you have. This kind of fear can be paralysing. Fear leads to some chronic sicknesses, even shock that leads to death. Fear is just an emotion or sensation triggered by a perceived danger. The danger is perceived, meaning it hasn’t happened and might not even happen. Yet people have hurt themselves because of fear. Prior to launching my inspirational blog, I had that feeling. I went to cut my hair, while my barber was doing what he knows how to do best, I felt so sick and almost stood up to leave. Looking good is good business so I had to stay put. I was thinking on how best to inspire people? If I could even do this? What format should I use? What if at some point I don’t feel inspired to write? Will I get the amount of traffic I hope to get? All this were fears. How did I overcome this fears you might ask? This post answers that question so enjoy. I will be looking at some body sensations that function’s just like fear. How thirst and “hunger” works Do you hunger and thirst are just sensations saying you need to eat and drink. you dont get worked up when you are thirsty. you just get a drink. Your fears work just like hunger and thirst, its just pointing you to a need you should answer to. How “pain” works your pain is saying you should listen to a part of your body and treat it accordingly. thats exactly how fear works. the source of the pain is saying it needs attention. if your career is the source of your fear, then it needs attention. you can see the full inspiring post on http://www.kingdien.com/fear-make-stronger/ I will appreciate you thoughts on the post both here on niaraland and on the blog. thanks |
Goodafternoon my people. I did a post about the effect of using too many "if's" in our statements on my inspirational blog, i thought i share my thoughts here and find out what you think. I feel when you use 'if' in your spoken word, especially words that demand actions, you just limit yourself to putting the neccesary action needed to carry out your words. "if i make money" just doesnt give you enough drive to make money. I hope I'm speaking your mind tho. But when you use "when", you create a sense of commitment and attachment to your word. "when i get money" is a more determined version of "if i get money" I compared "If" and "When" with respect to Desire to achieve: ''if" doesnt bring that desire to achieve, but "when" brings a stronger desire. commitment: "if" doesnt bring much sense of commitment to your statement, but "when" does. option: "if" gives you an option. "if i make money" means you can either make money or not. "when i make money" gives you no sense of options. vision and dream: a vision is a dream already in action. constant use of "if" just keeps you in a land of dreams. but "when" means you are ready to work towrds achievement, hence making your dream a vision and very attainable. i will love to know your thoughts. you can read the full post on http://www.kingdien.com/if_vs_when/. Its an inspiring piece. |
