Boko Haram leaders were among participants in an extensive “conference call” organised by Al Qaeda to plan massive terrorist attacks. This fact was reported on August 7, 2013, when more details of the interception by the U.S. intelligence became available.



The data obtained from the ‘conference’ triggered the closure of 20 American embassies, including four from sub-Saharan Africa countries, namely, Rwanda, Burundi, Mauritius, and Madagascar.

Officials, according to initial media reports, said the decision was taken after communications between al Qaeda leader, Egyptian-born, Ayman Zawahiri, and the group’s leader in Yemen, Nasser al-Wuhayshi, were intercepted last week. From other sources it has been gathered that the discussion between the two al Qaeda leaders was in a conference call that included the leaders or representatives of al Qaeda and its affiliates, who called through a presumably secure network, from different locations.

Three anonymous American operatives reported of more than 20 al Qaeda operatives were on the call.

“Al Qaeda members included representatives or leaders from Nigeria’s Boko Haram, the Pakistani Taliban, al Qaeda in Iraq, al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, and more obscure al Qaeda affiliates such as the Uzbekistan branch,” the report said. “Also on the call were representatives of aspiring al Qaeda affiliates such as al Qaeda in the Sinai Peninsula, according to a U.S. intelligence official.” “This was like a meeting of the Legion of Doom,” another intelligence officer concluded.

The report, widely sourced by other U.S. media on Wednesday, reflected the global reaches of Boko Haram as the Nigerian government struggles back home to contain the deadly group that has massacred thousands of civilians.

Again, while Boko Haram appears on the U.S. list, the notorious Somali terror group, Al Shabaab, which operates on the horn of Africa, was not mentioned, potentially, a measure of Boko Haram’s strategic importance in the global terror network.

Also during the meeting, the various al Qaeda leaders discussed in vague terms plans for a pending attack and mentioned that a team or teams were already in place for such an attack. For some leading members of Congress, the revelation that al Qaeda’s leadership in Pakistan is actively managing and directing the operations of several affiliates directly refutes the Obama administration’s repeated assertion that the leadership of the core of the group has been decimated by American drone strikes and special operations forces while the affiliate groups have been strengthened. Chris Omeleze, a police sergeant who was caught on video camera extorting N25, 000 from a motorist; has been dismissed by the Lagos State Police Command.

The video footage of the yet to be identified male motorist, pleading with Omeleze to accept N2, 000 instead of the N25, 000 he demanded went viral on the blog-sphere earlier in the week.

The footage captured the policeman who was attached to the State Traffic Division, Ikeja, on the passenger’s seat; placing a call to his superior on the telephone, saying the car owner must be impounded for not ‘cooperating with him.’

The video, which trended heavily online, caught the attention of the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, who ordered for his immediate arrest on Tuesday.

It was gathered that the Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko, ordered that the sergeant with Force number, 192954, should face an orderly room trial.

Omeleze was found guilty of misconduct by a panel of policemen who recommended him for dismissal with immediate effect.

The officer who was given a dressing down at the CP’s office on Wednesday said he regretted his action, lamenting that he had been in service for almost 21 years.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide who expressed disappointment over the sergeant’s unprofessional behaviour called on members of the public to always report such cases to the police.

A magistrate court has ordered that Pastor Philip Ogbebor, Founder and General Overseer of a Pentecostal Church in Benin City, be remanded at the Federal Medium Security Prison, Oko for allegedly having carnal knowledge of a 20-year-old male member of his church and administering secret oaths on him, including; threatening to kill him if he told anyone.

Surprisingly, the randy pastor of Breakthrough Ministries, Owina Street, off  Sakponba road  Benin city, neither denied the allegation of homosexuality levelled against him by the parents of one of his victims nor blamed the devil as many culprits will do. Instead, he said, “I am only passing through temptation. I only did it four times with the man who is 22 years old and a regular member of my church. I can’t claim that  it was the devil’s influence , let God decide my case.”

However, the 42 year old randy pastor has been arraigned before a Magistrate court in Benin city on a  charge bordering on  indecent assault contrary to Sections 214(1) and 353 of the constitution respectively.

The Magistrate was said to have ordered his detention at the Oko medium security prison in the state capital pending the commencement of trial.

Military sources have waved off reports on the Sheikh Abubakar Shekau had been shot and deposed as leader of Islamist sect group, Boko Haram.

According to the sources, the intention of the false report is to mislead both the government and members of the public.

“It is not true,” a senior army officer said about the report.

Also on Wednesday, the defence headquarters disclosed that the joint intelligence sharing and military cooperation between the Nigeria and Niger Republic has helped to foil the plan by some Boko Haram insurgents that escaped the onslaught by the troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF), to regroup for counter-offensive.

Meanwhile, Chairman, Presidential Committee on Dialogue and Peaceful Resolution on Security Challenges in the North (Amnesty Committee) and the minister of special duties, Alhaji Tanimu Turaki, SAN, has refused to speak on the purported overthrow of the Boko Haram boss.

Turaki who recently announced a ceasefire deal with the sect had maintained that the Amnesty Committee is negotiating with “authentic” Boko Haram.

Shekau had released a video to dismiss the reports of a ceasefire deal, but Turaki had said the committee negotiated the deal with Shekau’s deputy Sheikh Abdulazeez.

Shekau had in the video released after the announcement of the ceasefire agreement, disowned Sheikh Abdulazeez.


He said: “We are stating it categorically that we are not in any dialogue or ceasefire agreement with anyone. And we have never asked anybody in the name Abdulazeez to represent me, Abubakar Shekau, the leader of this movement.

“I swear by Allah that Abdulazeez or whatever he calls himself did not get any authority from me to represent me in any capacity. I do not know him. And if we per adventure encounter Abulazeez and his group, I swear by Allah we are going to mete them with the grave judgment that Allah has prescribed for their likes in the holy book.”. After ordering the closure of all its embassies in the Muslim world, the US state department has issued a travel warning to its citizens worldwide, alerting them to potential “terrorist attacks”, particularly in the Middle East, North Africa and the Arabian Peninsula.

In a statement released on Friday, Washington said it possessed information that al-Qaeda armed group and its affiliates may focus efforts to conduct attacks in the period between now and the end of August.

“Terrorists may elect to use a variety of means and weapons and target both official and private interests”, the statement read.

“US citizens are reminded of the potential for terrorists to attack public transportation systems and other tourist infrastructure. Terrorists have targeted and attacked subway and rail systems, as well as aviation and maritime services.”

The state department said that the travel alert expires on August 31, 2013.

The statement came a day after state department announced it would close an unspecified number of embassies around the world on Sunday over security concerns.

State department spokeswoman Marie Harf called the step “precautionary” but declined to specify the threat or list which missions would be closed.

Most of you are probably expecting a scandalous letter, but i myself was shocked.

The first 20yrs of my life, I seriously had this dream of being a priest. I was overfed with an overdose of religion which has always been a very serious business in my family. You dare not be late for morning mass or else you get the whipping of your life, yes my father was that strict, no nonsense when it came to going to church or anything spiritual. That’s where I’m coming from, we were a family that prayed together and were very staunch Catholics for that matter. 

When I turned 16 I became an altar boy, at that time that was the coolest thing to be, considering years of going to bible classes and regular confessions. Eight months into the spiritual things as an altar boy, I made a big goof; I drank the priests wine and ate a bunch of Holy Communion enough to fill me up. I figured I could be more spiritual by that action, but I got expelled as an altar boy, needless to say how scandalized and angry my father was then, OMG. 

 

By the time I turned 20, I’ve had enough religion to last me two life times. By 1974, I left to further my studies in the USA, I was overjoyed because for the first time, I was going to be on my own. I was really carried away with my new found independence. Being an adventurous young man I started dabbling into not only the occult but with metaphysics, Buddhism, astrology, magic and all that Jazz. However, I still believe I was fundamentally a Catholic by birth, but the catholic fate has suddenly become boring and old fashioned for me.

 

 When I read that controversial book, “In God’s Name”, all the negativity I started to feel about the Catholic Church became magnified in my mind. What about the s*x scandals about priests and little boys. Hummmmmmm! I am aware that the Catholic Church is not a perfect body, and doesn’t claim to be one. Of course it is plagued with the same corruption, scandals and sin as any other organization. Last night as I was watching CNN, the Pope’s visit to Brasil was being beamed to the world and all of a sudden, there it was, “who am I to judge as long as they walk in the light of Christ” Pope Francis on Gays. As reflexes would have it, I jumped out of my seat and hugged my TV, funny ha ha. Not because homosexuality has been part of my advocacy through the years but because I feel that every adult has a right to make their bed and lie on it as they choose, and who the hell are we to judge. I have always said that it is really not our place to judge those who do not fit our view of normal. So once again the church is attempting to evolve in order to keep up with the rest of civilization. That is how a religion survives. Its belief has to be flexible enough to stay somewhat relevant to current or the public will abandon it.

 

 Ever since the Pope’s election, my man has taken actions that seem to be very ‘unpopelike’. He even used public transport as a cardinal, he lives in a smaller quarter, he asked for blessing before blessing the crowd which gathered in St Peters square on the day of his election. But my people, what is stranger than Pope France’s action have been evangelicals’ reactions all over the world. Never before has a Pope become so widely accepted by Protestants and evangelicals. It’s a proud day for Catholics and all mankind. Finally a Pope who doesn’t see himself as equal to God, unlike our men of god down here. It is really amazing. Every Pope in the Catholic Church’s past has had a mastery over catholic rhetoric, because theoretically they always say the right things. But Pope Francis has decided to lead with his actions. Before delivering his message at the Holy Thursday Mass, Pope Francis spent time on his Knees washing the feet of young women incarcerated at a nearby prison. This is the first time a Pope has ever washed the feet of women, not to mention that one of the women was a Muslim, which is another break in papal tradition. In the holy book, the bible calls us to be the light to the world if Christ is to be present to the world. This is why Pope Francis’ way should be imitated for imitating him we make Christ visible and that is what influences others to walk in the way of Christ. So much to be said for our so called “men of god” in this neck of the woods who strut around as if they are God’s gift to mankind, most of them bunch of con men and fraud stars who are continually ripping off unsuspecting Nigerians, living in fancy houses, building universities their congregation can’t even afford for their children and buying private jets because their God is not a poor God, as Nija’s hand over their pay checks in return for a miracle because they have bought into the Hocus-pocus that is Pentecostalism. Just look at our churches today, tell me those priest, pastors or our so called men of god, who makes Christ visible. Jesus needs us to make him Visible and present in this troubled world. Blessed mother Teresa is a perfect example of showing us the love and mercy of Christ in the millions she cared for. The gospel calls us to imitate Christ and it is in the way we live that the gospel of Jesus gets proclaimed, that is how we speak Christ to a world that does not know him.

 

I am very scared for this Pope, he is a little too Christ like for his own good. There are still some die hard winches, vampires in the Vatican. I fear assassination, probably by the very people who call themselves “devout”. If any Pope can show us what Jesus was saying, I think this one is the one. At least I hope so. I am impressed with this Pope not for his Catholicism but for his Christianity. As I lay in the comfort of my room watching the Pope’s visit to Brazil, it was clear to me that Pope Francis will go down in history as the greatest Pope ever, I just pray that he lives out his Pope ship for many years to come as to spread his light and make our lord Jesus more visible in the world. More than 3million people where at Copacabana beach for the re-enactment of the Stations of the Cross and farewell mass. This world Youths Day smashed previous attendance records and goes down in the record books as one of the best attended papal events ever.  In short, this Pope is a rock star. Here is a Pope who speaks the language of the people; In fact in Rio he kicked his penchant for simplicity, humility and accessibility into high gear. The security operatives were all overwhelmed by zealous pilgrims, he insisted on leaving the windows of his car down so he could extend his arm to those seeking his blessings. Countless babies kissed, photo ups with adoring faithfuls only added to the pontiff reputation for being a man of the people, and all of this took place in the roughest side of town, a crime ridden zone in Rio.

 

 Pope Francis is now standing up to the Mafia. First the Vatican honoured Rev Giuseppe Puglisi, killed 20yrs ago by mobsters for preaching against the Mafia, as a martyr. Pope Francis himself demanded that Mafia members abandon their “evil ways” especially those who exploit their fellow humans via human trafficking, drug dealing and prostitution. “They cannot make our brothers slaves; let us pray that these Mafiosi convert to God”. Hummmmm na wa, if the Mafia decides to take Pope Francis out in retaliation for his words against them, I pray that there’s a Pope Francis army out there ready to throw down.  If the Pope manages to mobilize all of Italian society against the Mafia, his days maybe numbered, but he will be unable to do so, and as a result I pray that the Mafia won’t remember him. They say the only thing needed for Evil to exist is for good men to do nothing. I am glad that he is doing something. He looks and sounds to me like he has a beautiful spiritual light burning  inside of him and is preaching goodwill for all and trying to turn around the corrupt so they too can walk in the sunlight of the spirit. I really admire him for standing up to the Mafias. I recognize the Popes effort in trying to bring a better image and name to Christianity. Anyway you flip it, the Holy Father is full of surprises, born of true and faithful humility, at another occasion, he declared that all people, not just Catholics, are redeemed through Jesus, even atheists. “Those people must still do good. Infact, it is in doing good that they are led to the one who is the source of all that is good” In essence he simply restated the hope of the church that all come to know God, through his son Jesus Christ. Pope Francis is saying more than ever before, that Christ offered himself as a sacrifice for everyone. That has always been a Christian belief, but rarely do you hear it said by Catholics so forcefully, and with such evident joy. Demands Tukur’s Removal as a Condition for Peace
Five northern governors: Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Rabiu
Kwankwaso (Kano), Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Aliyu
Wamakko (Sokoto), and Muritala Nyako (Adamawa),
all from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP yesterday met with President Goodluck Jonathan at the Aso
Rock Villa, Abuja and gave the president conditions
that must be met for peace to return to the party. The meeting which sources described as private was
brokered by Senate President David Mark at the
instance of President Jonathan who is desirous of
ending the raging crises in the Peoples’ Democratic
Party (PDP) and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF),
so as to put him in good footing for his 2015 presidential ambition.
Although, details of the meeting was unclear as at
press time, It was gathered that issues bordering on
the recent moves by the five northern governors
which saw them visiting former Nigerian leaders as
well as their Rivers State counterpart, Rotimi Amaechi, over what they called “efforts to save the ruling party
and democracy” dominated the session. Abusidiqu.com was made to understand that the five
governors insisted on the removal of the PDP
National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, as their
condition to be at peace with the party and the
Presidency. According to one of the sources, the governors
maintained that “Tukur is the problem and should
leave for peace to return to the ruling party,” adding
that the governors assured the president that they
would not leave the PDP for another party. It could however not be established last night
whether President Jonathan accepted the governors’
demand, but he reportedly assured the governors
that he was aware of their face-off with some
influential people close to him and the PDP and was
poised to address them in the interest of the party and the country. The visit of the governors to President Goodluck is
coming few days after a similar visit to former
President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta. The governors after meeting with Obasanjo also
extended a similar visit two former military leaders,
Generals Ibrahim Babangida and Abdusalami
Abubakar in Minna, the Niger State capital. It had been speculated that the separate meetings
the governors had with the former leaders were a
means to douse the tension in the Nation.
