I'm a part of the Emergency Management Vanguard as a corps member and feel I should say the following.. Not an excuse for their late coming though but as a lapse that needs be corrected urgently
The states and local governments are meant to have state emergency management agency and local governments emergency management council but most states are too lackadaisical in the creation of this agency that needs be put in place in times like this but mostly choose to keep them under various commissions which makes them ineffective..
I can surely bet with my July's salary that those NEMA officials might not be from the state in which this blast happened but will come from around the states probably around the zone
I'll use this medium to implore all states government to to fix this agency and make it effective in their states so as to ensure prompt response |

Politics › APC Hails Buhari For Ending Workers’ Misery by kingphilip(op): 12:04pm On Jul 07, 2015 |
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has hailed President Muhammadu Buhari for coming to the aid of the long-suffering Nigerian workers with a multi-billion-naira package that will not only ensure that all arrears of salaries owed by many states across the country are immediately paid, but will also make it easier for the states to meet their monthly salary obligations henceforth.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said it was particularly delighted that the President has shown that he is truly the father of the nation by eschewing partisanship in approving the intervention fund for all the states, irrespective of which parties they belong to.
”We say this because when states were financially handicapped during the tenure of the last federal government, opposition states were hung out to dry while states belonging to the then ruling PDP got generous bailouts,” it said.
APC said by his action, President Buhari has practicalized his deep understanding of the essence of governance which, more than anything else, is the about the well being of the citizenry.
The party said worthy of note and commendation is the fact that the special intervention fund approved by President Buhari was packaged without any external borrowing, despite the paucity of funds occasioned by the fall in the price of crude oil and the unprecedented profligacy of the immediate past administration that dried out the pot of national resources.
It said so early in the life of his administration, President Buhari is walking his talk by showing that with prudence, financial discipline and creativity, plugging financial leakages and a deep sense of patriotism, even the nation’s dwindling resources can still be more effectively utilized for the benefit of Nigerians, rather than be looted by thieving public officials who abuse their office.
APC described as uncharitable and a clear indication that shame has taken flight the situation in which those who created the rot that is now being cleared by President Buhari are the same ones daring to point accusing fingers at the government that inherited their rot.
”The PDP that spent the past 16 years plundering and pillaging Nigeria has boasted that the Nigerian people will soon come, cap in hand, to beg them to return to power. What delusion! What arrogance! Who presided over the looting and the mismanagement of public funds that made it impossible for the nation to absorb the shock of the falling oil prices? Who depleted the Excess Crude Account (ECA) without authorization? Who has degraded the standard of living of Nigerians?” the party queried.
APC said the multi-pronged package approved by President Buhari includes the sharing by the Federal and State Governments of $1.7 billion out of the $2 billion remaining in the ECA; the sharing of about $2.1billion sourced from the Lagos payment to the Federation Account; and a CBN-packaged special intervention fund that will offer financing to the states, ranging between N250billion to N300 billion, as a soft loan available to states to access for the purposes of paying backlog of salaries.
Also, the President has approved a debt relief programme that will help states restructure their commercial loans currently put at over N680billion. The implication is that the life span of such loans will be extended, while reducing the states’ debt-servicing expenditures, thus leaving the states with enough resources – which otherwise would have been removed at source by the banks – to meet their monthly salary obligations, among others.
”History is repeating itself before our very eyes. Some 31 years ago, Buhari, then as a military head of state, also inherited a huge national rot similar to what has been bequeathed to it by the NPN government and had to approve 480 million Naira for the payment of arrears of workers’ salaries. Truly, the President is a man of destiny,” the party said.
It said that with thousands of workers made destitute by the frittering away of the commonwealth under a rapacious and wasteful PDP government now being given a new lease of life, their purchasing power being boosted and the nation’s economy being reflated, the change which the President and his party promised the nation has just begun.
”We thank Nigerians for voting the APC into power at the centre and for believing in us even when the horizon became hazy, not out of our making but because of the misdeeds of the past. By their relentless support for President Buhari and the APC, Nigerians have indeed demonstrated that what is worth fighting for is worth defending,” APC said All information extracted from http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/07/apc-hails-buhari-for-ending-workers-misery/Cc: seun, lalasticlala, mynd44, Ishilove, Afam4eva, OAM4J, Ikenna351 |

I was in Access bank yesterday for some transaction.. When I expecting to see a little queue somewhere inside the banking hall as regards BVN but to my greatest surprise there was no single soul I now remembered the Nigerian factor of waiting till few days before deadline before taking action..
Please and please if peradventure you are seeing this post and haven't done your BVN or linked your BVN to other accounts please do it doesn't take over 15 minutes to get that done waiting for October doesn't guarantee you'll do it in 2 days.
By the way this is a very welcome development from UBA because it'll surely save time and stress |
Business › BVN Enrolment Hits 15million Mark by kingphilip(op): 6:01am On Jul 07, 2015 |
The nationwide enrolment of banks’ Biometric Verification Numbers, BVN, has reached a landmark of 15 million customers, just as United Bank for Africa, UBA introduced a simplified process for registration.
The simplified process of registration is to complete the exercise so that customers who registered in other banks can link their BVN to UBA account automatically rather than going into the branch to do it physically.
Group Managing Director/CEO of UBA, Mr. Phillips Oduoza, who disclosed this, yesterday, said “UBA’s initiative will help give a tremendous boost to the overall success of the exercise.
“With 2.7 million registrations as at today Monday July 6, 2015, UBA is currently the leading bank in BVN registrations among banks in Nigeria. We invite all customers to take advantage of this innovation, one of many initiatives of the bank to provide convenient banking solutions and excellent service to our customers.
Commenting on the challenges that people in Diaspora are likely to face as a result of the introduction of BVN, he said “The banking industry is working on a solution to solving the problem because without the BVN they cannot be able to do any transaction in the banking industry.
Transactions such as foreign exchange, Internet banking, transfers, among others, would be difficult to execute, hence the need to get them registered.”
According to him: “BVN is going to be another revolution in this country just like we had in the telecom industry. It is a good thing for the country and the people and that is where cashless economy is taking us to. Consumer finance is what drives the development of a country and cost of doing business will go down when this commences fully.”
Meanwhile, leveraging on its robust information technology infrastructure, UBA launched a short code number *919*6# through which customers can send their BVN to automatically link their respective accounts. In his words
“The process is very simple. All a customer has to do is to send his or her valid BVN from the telephone number that was used to open their account to the short code number and it will become automatically linked their account with the bank” Mr. Rasheed Adegoke, Director, Group Information Technology, UBA Plc has stated.
The introduction of this simplified process was in response to some of the challenges associated with the ongoing BVN exercise. “UBA has come up with this novel process to ensure that customers who already have their BVN do not have any issues submitting it to their alternate banks” explained Adegoke.
Once customers submit their BVN through the code, they will get an immediate response letting them know whether their BVN is valid or incorrect. The responses will be accompanied by a phone number through which further enquiries can be made by the customers if required. In addition to this phone number, customers can also reach UBA on social media though Facebook and twitter or by calling UBA’s Customer Fulfilment Centre for further clarifications.
