Good morning. I would just like to give you a thumbs up and encourage your business PC Hero. Pay no mind to all these people that claim to buy games for less than 500 naira. Unless they get it free from their friends who steal from people nobody would download triple A titles or 10gb plus games and sell at a such a low price.

I had a personal experience like this during my NYSC in the North. A woman was brought in labor to deliver her 9th baby. She and her husband were very poor. The man was a carpenter and she a petty trader (I think). The baby had hand prolapse meaning that, probably like this baby, the hand came out of the womb instead of the head first. This was Oct. 2005 and they could not afford N30000 for the CS she required. It was against the hospital policy (government) at the time to do free surgeries and despite my pleas, the head of the hospital at the time wouldn't budge. I couldn't at the time afford to pay because it was soon after the banking crisis and my money was mostly frozen. Even my monthly corpers and doctors salary at the time combined was not up to 30k. The woman laboured for 3days, the baby died in the womb and became infected. Subsequently, the mother developed a high fever and died. I have never seen a man cry so hard for anything before. It was just so heartbreaking and I honestly could not sleep for a full week after that.

The reason I am telling this story is because of the people rushing to judge the doctor for his 'quackery'. In medicine, we are taught that one mother's live is worth 20 unborn so the emphasis needs to be placed on saving her life first because of the other children she already has or might bear or even just care for in future. In a rural setting, if the baby was wrongly positioned and not moving, it might have been near impossible to hear a heartbeat. There are even cases of babies who have lost all heartbeat only to wake up several hours later in the morgue. Why not send for a scan, you say? Those are not readily available in rural setups and even if they are expensive to the common man and there may be a lengthy queue for the service which is time a woman in labor may not have.

Also, our people present late. They may even register for antenatal but for fear of the cost and stigma attached to a CS, they prefer to go to local midwives and religious homes where they will first exhaust all their money and the real quacks will complicate the situation before sending them to the hospital when it is too late. The reason these people seem successful is that without any intervention, 85% of deliveries will have on their own. It is only qualified people who can identify the 15% and try to prevent it.

Poverty might have had a part to play here too. Maybe they couldn't afford a CS. Do it on credit, you say? How many can you do without folding up your practice? It is common for people to come, beg the doctor to save life, promise to pay later then after the procedure, you are told there is no money. When the doctor decides to be merciful and let them go, a few days later, they will then throw a lavish naming ceremony as is customary.

The healthcare challenges in Nigeria are enormous but the few doctors who still practice here are really struggling to help with little or no infrastructure while the people don't help themselves. I cannot fault the doctor in this scenario at all because his action might actually be the only reason both mother and baby are still alive. It is sad the child lost an arm but it could have been much worse.

This must surely be the work of a quack and not a doctor. Every trained doctor whose a medical officer knows at least 3 different techniques to manage shoulder dystocia which was probably the case here. but a quack would choose to amputate. a doctor would have also checked for fetal heart sounds and a USS scan to confirm diagnosis before attempting anything.

This generalization of Nigerian doctors are bad needs to stop, ask yourself why not only doctors but people in other professions perform well outside this country.

Gong through this thread has been interesting. The title did say how do females cope with male ob/gyn doctors but I think the focus drifted to whether male ob/gyn are normal (have supposed normal male emotions) when handling their female patients.

Well, yes they are normal men. Early in the training,  you're being trained by your senior  doctors to compose yourself as this is just business and strictly your job. So yes male/ob do feel emotions but this is extremely short lived (less than 3 seconds). Occasionally you'll briefly admired an attractive female and strictly just admiring. Afterwards it's business straight away. Chances are you'll not even remember the woman you examined because the number of patients you'll see in a day ehn, many of my patients always feel sad when I can't remember then until they say "Sir you're the one that repaired the tear wey i get when I deliver " and I'll be like sorry o na the work plenty na why.
Also keep in mind, some doctors have dated and married thier patients. Some of them are also looking for wives. I have 9 friends that have done so. So womaniser or not,na una sabi.

Pelvic and breasts examination are not the only thing doctors do but these are vital to confirming diagnosis and planning suitable treatment options. Many diagnosis have been missed becuase male doctors don't want perform VE to inconvenience their female patients and when treatment fails, these same women will say "he is  not a good doctor. A doctor can decide whether surgery will be necessary by the size of a breast lump  (we are not handling for fun) while checking for features of malignancy. Pelvic examination is never ever fun,I repeat it's never ever fun. A doctor usually has extremely limited time to check the perineum because the women are either uncomfortable or always contracting hereby limiting proper examination. If you think VE is fun ask the house officer who has to monitor a woman in labour regularly.

As for the matter of immorality that a male should not be a ob/gyn specialist, this is extremely wrong. Its like saying female docs shouldn't catherise male patients or specialise in urology. Males started moving to the obgyn field because less women became interested in it. Most of the best ob/gyne are males (5 out of 7 profs where I trained were males).   Female ob/gyn are usually judgmental and unsympathetic. Ask the female patients who always run to male docs for MVA and why they don't go to female docs.
But if as a female you don't like the thought of a male doctor examining you,  no stress,  look for a female doctor to examine you. Trust me the male doc is not bothered, na him money him dey reason

Also on the view that most men were driven into the obgyn field because of "touching women" is funny and ridiculous. Obgyn is one of the most lucrative specialties in medicine. The price of cesarean section is enough to attract anybody to that field. As a doctor in such a speciality, you will never lack patients; women must always give birth, ladies go always come down with infections/fibroids/cysts,  not like we pray for these but na wetin dey happen that's why we studied hard to treat them and save the lives of our women.

Now all that I've said should apply to the well trained male doctor/obgyn specialists. There are many chews and other people claiming to be doctors these days who don't have the basic conditioned training of a doctor.  I've tried to explain how a typical male obgyn doctor thinks and works. Yes, sometimes you do see a female and find her attractive but when she gets unclad, your mind shifts to examining her well and treating her condition well. When you do your business well, your patient will refer other patients to you. Besides, the type of lawsuits that hits unprofessional doctors is more than enough to deter a trained professional. A chaperone is always present, even for regular patients because any small thing your license don go.

Now with all that said, I think the focus can shift to the part where the females can actually comment on how they cope with male obgyn doctors.

Wow you guys didn't seem to elaborate on d battery life. I use an iphone 4, galaxy s2 and bold4. Among all s2 has d least battery life with bb d highest. If ur use of a fone is social networking stick with a bb. App wise a jailbroken iphone is better. Galaxy s2 apps require data plans or wireless to download . D advantage of s2 is dat it has beautiful graphic user interface and widgets. So with that said its ur choice
