PoliticsMassob Faction Threatened Protest Over Radio Biafra Director's Arrest by kinziking(op): 7:43pm On Oct 18, 2015
Director of pirate radio, Radio Biafra, Nnamdi KanuIn a statement issued in Abakaliki, the National Director of Information, MASSOB, Comrade Uchenna Madu threatened that any refusal by the federal government to ensure the release of Kanu would lead to a world wide demonstration, protest which would endanger the already battered image of Nigeria before the internationalcommunities. The statement read in part: “MASSOB Faction condemned the cowardly arrest and detention of Radio Biafra Director but also accept the fact that it is part of non violence struggle; no agitation is complete without arrest, detention & prosecution.“It shape the minds of the activist, drawing sympathy from the internal and external observers. It also shows that Nnamdi Kanu and Radio Biafra have become a factor of reckoning in Nigeria.“The arrest & detention of Nnamdi Kanu by DSS will assist immensely in reviving the consciousness & sympathy for Biafra actualization in higher dimension which was temporary halted by Ralph Uwazuruike’s deviation & lust of wealth.“This singular arrest will cause more diplomatic harm on Nigeria’s image than good. Before Nnamdi Kanu’s arrest, he has succeeded in rooting the Biafra struggle in about 78 countries including Biafraland“Through Radio Biafra, International tour& secret diplomatic build up. MASSOB warns Nigeria Govt to quickly release Nnamdi Kanu now or arraign him in a competent court of justice or face an eruption of Biafra world wide demonstration, protest which will endanger the already battered image of Nigeria before the international communities and cause more diplomatic harm to Nigeria”

HealthSEE How FG Plans To Wipe Out HIV/AIDS By 2030 by kinziking(op): 5:56pm On Oct 10, 2015
The Federal Government has expressed optimism that it will “completely wipe out” HIV/AIDS pandemic from the country by 2030.To achieve this target, the government intends to adopt the World Health Organisation’s strategy of ‘test and treat’ and President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive on production of HIV/AIDS drugs and related commodities. The Director-General, National Agency for the Control of AIDS, Prof. John Idoko, according to a statement issued on Friday by the agency’s Chief Communications Officer, Mrs. Toyin Aderibigbe, stated this at the just-concluded 70th anniversary of the United Nations General Assembly. The programme was themed, “Ensuring an AIDS-free generation by 2030: Strengthening the means of implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals as a strategic imperative for success.”The event also witnessed the presentation of MDGs Country Report, which will serve as a vital link between Nigeria’s MDGs era and the MDGs successor framework, providing milestones against which to benchmark progress as Nigeria adopts the SDGs.Idoko said, “Nigeria has made significant progress in the fight against HIV/AIDS in the last decade. We have achieved the MDG 6 of halting and reversing the HIV epidemic and we are committed to sustaining the momentum in the era of the Sustainable Development Goals toachieve an AIDS – free generationby 2030. In support of this, the country will use the strategy of adopting the new WHO guidelinesof ‘test and treat’, and the President has identified the local production of HIV/AIDS drugs andrelated commodities as a key strategy to actualise an AIDS-free generation by 2030.”The Country Director of UNAIDS, Michel Sidibe, explained how NACA and UNAIDS used Pampaida village in Kaduna State as a model for the elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV in Nigeria.“This village achieved the total elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV in 2015. Nigeria could lead the way in efforts to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030,” he said.Sidibe also recommended that Nigeria, with the support of UNAIDS and other development partners, should expand the Kaduna model to all 12+1 high burden states of Nigeria where 70per cent of all HIV positive pregnant women and new HIV infections exist. The Secretary of Programmes, Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on MDGs, Mr. Ochapa Ogenyi, said Nigeria remained steadfast in dedicating the entirety of the DebtRelief Gains negotiated more thana decade ago to serve as additional resources to bridge funding gaps for pro-poor interventions.
SportsWhy Mikel Rejected Captain Armband From Musa by kinziking(op): 5:22pm On Oct 10, 2015
The row between Super Eagles Coach Sunday Oliseh and Vincent Enyeama may have divided the team with a 2-0loss to DR Congo on Thursday and the drama that happened on the pitch.Captain of the team Ahmed Musa was pulled out in the second half and went straight to handover the captainarmband to Mikel Obi but the Chelsea player rejected the band.Ahmed Musa had to pass the armband to another player. Mikel’s refusal to take the armband has beengenerating a lot of arguments within football fraternity as many described his attitude as unprofessional and unwise. However, some said that Mikel was being diplomatic judging by the humiliation handed to Vincent Enyeama and the eventual retirement of the goalkeeper from national assignment.Undoubtedly, Mikel is older than Musa in the national team and should have become the captain in the absence of Enyeama, even though the coach has the legality to choose his own captain. Will Mikel like to deputize for Ahmed Musa? The question was answered on the pitch on Thursday. The development vividly revealed that there is crisis in the senior national team.
