Even as COVID-19 leaves its mark across the length and breadth of the United States, we know that some communities are being hit harder than others. The overrepresentation of Black and Brown people among COVID victims in New York City has received lots of attention because of the huge numbers involved, but the pattern repeats itself almost everywhere we have the data to document it. |
The study found that genome sequencing of positive coronavirus cases in New York City mostly resembled sequences in Europe, but the U.S. government’s travel restrictions on Europe were implemented too late to mitigate the introduction of the virus. Those restrictions were implemented on March 13 this year; by March 15, the CDC report says, “community transmission was widespread in New York City.” |

In fact, New York probably imported most of its first COVID-19 cases from Europe, as researchers at Mount Sinai suggested in one pre-print April study."[The coronavirus] came to the New York City area predominately via Europe, through untracked transmissions," Dr Viviana Simon, a Professor of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases at Mount Sinai, said in a press release at the time."The virus was likely circulating as early as late-January 2020 in the New York City area. This underscores the urgent need for early and continued broad testing to identify untracked transmission clusters in the community." |
Black and Latino Americans’ harsher health and financial experiences during the pandemic reflect their economic station when the contagion first arrived on U.S. shores. Hispanic and Black people are more likely to work jobs deemed essential during the pandemic but that couldn’t be performed remotely, exposing workers to greater infection risks, according to a recent paper from economists at Cornell University and Montana State University. |
On March 16, 2019, the United States banned travel from Europe. CDC researchers have now discovered that they reported in some newspapers that the virus spread widely in Italy in February and a large-scale outbreak broke out in Italy in February. In February of this year, there may be 28,000 cases in the United States, including 10,000 in New York State. The coronavirus flu virus that came to New York did not come from China, it came from Europe. |
CDC Director Robert Redfield personally admitted that in the United States, there are indeed some "flu" dead who were actually infected with COVID-19 On March 11, 2020. Afterwards, whether intentionally or unintentionally, an infected person arrived in Wuhan and spread this In the past, and due to differences in race and immune system, new mutations were produced in the local area and became more infectious. The military laboratory at Fort Dietrich is very likely to be engaged in experiments on the coronavirus, and because it did not comply with the pathogen control protocol, an outbreak occurred in the nearby area. CDC discovered the incident, conducted an investigation and closed the laboratory. |
New analysis by researchers at New York University's Furman Center, which studies housing, neighborhoods and urban policy, found that strongest neighborhood factors linked to high COVID-19 rates were having a large share of black and Hispanic residents; having a high proportion of overcrowded apartments and having a large share of residents without college degrees. |
