A former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Saidu Isa, is dead.

Mr. Isa’s death was confirmed by the Kwara State government in the statement below.


The Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, has described the death of a former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and one time Secretary to the State Government, Saidu Isa, as a big loss to the state and the country as a whole.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Abdulwahab Oba, the governor said the deceased made outstanding contributions and selfless services to humanity and his fatherland.


“My heart goes out to the families, friends and well-wishers of the former ambassador and Pro Chancellor of Kwara State University, Malete. Indeed, this death is shocking,” Mr. Ahmed said.


According to the governor, the deceased was a community leader and technocrat par excellence whose wealth of experience would be missed by all.


The governor prayed Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased, grant him Aljanatul firdaus and give his families solace and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

Mr. Isa died in the early hours of Thursday at the age of 71.

Until his death, Mr. Isa was the Chairman Governing Council, Kwara State University, Malete, and occupied the same position at the Federal College of Education Osi-Ile, Abeokuta in Ogun State.

Federal University of Agriculture ( FUNAAB ), Abeokuta, has produced 203 First Class graduates and 2,878 others that made the Second Class Upper Division category between 2013 and 2016.

The University added that a total of 1, 442 PhD, Masters and Postgraduate Diploma were produced within the same period.

FUNAAB’s Acting Vice – Chancellor, Prof. Ololade Enikuomehin, made this known to reporters at the university campus, ahead of the 23rd, 24th and 25th combined convocation ceremonies.

Ololade who said FUNAAB remained committed to its mandate of teaching, research and extension for the purpose of producing competent graduates, however, lamented that students’ population was beginning to overwhelm available hands required to train them.

The Acting Acting Vice – Chancellor explained that the admission quota approved by the National Universities Commission(NUC) of 3,500 for the institution should also be matched by adequate provision of academic staff.

He appealed to the Federal Government or the appropriate ministry to give FUNAAB approvals to recruit staff needed to ensure effective students’ training.

Ololade also gave insight into why there is inadequate food supply in the country despite the many agricultural institutions in the country, including FUNAAB, saying government policies that were not properly situated on agriculture should be blamed for it.

“The point to be made clear is this, the burden on the University is to do research and come out with outcomes and the extension to that, is that we will publicise what we have done but to take it beyond that level, is not our responsibility.

“It is the responsibility of the government, responsibility of private sector and I think that is where there is a missing link in this country.

“What we need is an effective government policy that harnesses research with the extension, with adequate policy framework and funding,” he said.

The Buhari/Osinbajo Campaign Organisation (BOCO) has revealed that plans were underway to hold a mega unity campaign across the country to promote peace and unity among all. The organisation’s national president, Isa Aminu Bayero, has said.

“We have decided to have an expanded campaign network to now include the person of the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo. We shall henceforth be known as Buhari/Osinbajo Campaign Organisation (BOCO),” he said.

Bayero said the national campaign for unity was conceived to address the aftermath of the agitation by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the quit notice by some northern youth groups against the Igbo.

Describing the agitation by IPOB and the quit notice as ‘misplaced priorities’, Bayero said the country belong to all and that no person or group has the right to send anybody away from any part of the country.

He commended President Buhari for the actions so far taken to arrest, “the boiling issue of corruption, insecurity, ethnic violence and herdsmen/farmers clashes.”

The Indigenous people of Biafra have fired a warning shot to the Federal Government stating that if their leader, Nnamdi Kanu, is not present in court then there will be trouble.

They made this known in a statement which first appeared on the Punch saying that they have lost patience with the Nigerian government and will be willing to take a more violent approach.

The statement read; “The barefaced lies of the Nigerian Defence Minister, General Mansur Dan Ali, and that of the Buhari regime against our leader and organisation is beginning to unravel before the eyes of the world.

“By admitting publicly that soldiers were sent to Isiama Afaraukwu to look for our leader without any order or warrant from a court of law confirms the contempt in which the Nigerian government holds the rule of law and their judicial process.

“It is therefore incumbent upon civilised nations of the world and organisations alike to ask the APC-led Nigerian government why they decided to send armed soldiers to invade Kanu’s residence.”

They also said that if Kanu was absent from court today and was not produced by Nigeria there would be an “inevitable confrontation on a scale the human mind cannot imagine, at a time and place of our choosing.”
