Topic: THE CROSS AWAKENS ETERNAL PERSPECTIVE

Bible Verse
"...If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth..."
Colossians 3:1–2 (KJV)

This call from Paul invites you to shift your focus from the temporal to the eternal, and it is through the cross that this shift becomes possible.

REFLECTION: Living with Eternity in View

The cross is not only the place where salvation was purchased—it is the place where your vision was restored. Through the cross, you died with Christ and rose with Him into a new life (Galatians 2:20). This resurrection life comes with a transformed focus.

Paul urges believers in Colossians 3:1–2 to lift their gaze upward. The world pulls your attention downward—toward pride, material accumulation, fleeting pleasures, and earthly validation. But the cross redirects your affections. It disconnects you from the gravitational pull of the earth and ties your heart to the values of Heaven.

Jesus Himself endured the cross “...for the joy that was set before Him...” (Hebrews 12:2). That eternal joy shaped His earthly obedience. Likewise, when your life is surrendered at the foot of the cross, you begin to make decisions through the lens of eternity, not temporary convenience.

Paul reminds you in 2 Corinthians 4:18 to fix your eyes not on what is seen—because it is temporary—but on what is unseen, because it is eternal. This eternal mindset helps you endure trials with grace, handle blessings with humility, treat people with compassion, and approach death with hope. Like the heroes of faith described in Hebrews 11:13–16, you begin to see yourself as a pilgrim journeying toward a “better country, that is, a heavenly one.”

The cross awakens a heavenly consciousness. It aligns your heart to live above earthly corruption and below heavenly glory—a life anchored in eternity while still walking on earth.

TESTIMONY

A sister in our assembly once shared how the cross transformed her outlook. She had been overwhelmed by financial pressure, workplace competition, and fear of the future. But one morning, as she meditated on Colossians 3:1–2, something shifted. She said, “For the first time, I realized I was living as though earth was my final destination.” That day, she chose to surrender her anxieties at the cross. Within weeks, her peace returned, her priorities realigned, and she gained clarity about decisions she had been afraid to make.
The cross didn’t change her situation first—it changed her vision.

Answer:
By intentionally seeking what pleases Christ above what benefits the flesh. This includes daily fellowship with God, choosing obedience over convenience, valuing people more than possessions, investing in spiritual growth, and living with the awareness that my decisions echo in eternity. The cross becomes my compass, directing my priorities.

CALL TO DECISION

Will you continue living with your eyes fixed on the dust, or will you allow the cross to lift your gaze to the heights of eternity? Today, choose to live with Heaven in view. Let the cross reshape your desires, your decisions, and your destiny.

PRAYER

Papa Adeboye, the G .O of the Redeemed had an interesting encounter with God Almighty, " I was on a prayer walk when He(GOD) suddenly asked me to bend, I bent immediately, then He told to draw a man in the sand. I drew the stick figure of a man, then He asked me to clean off my drawing. I easily cleaned it off with my foot. How do we know that someone is humble?
It is quite confusing and difficult to define but being humble is a state of the mind where one considers himself NOT better than others and that what he or she is, it is by the grace of God.

Kneeling down, prostrating for someone is very good but it may mean nothing to God's standards of humility.

One man beat his child and reprimanded him to kneel down, the child refused to kneel down but the Father insisted the boy must kneel down, so reluctantly the boy knelt down, truly, the boy knelt down but in the heart of the boy, the boy was actually standing upright, the kneeling down is just to obey the Father but not willingly and ready to kneel down at all.

The above may be some people state of mind, many people look humble with their outlook and the way they conduct themselves but inwardly, they are very proud human beings.

God doesn't like to share his glory with any man no matter how mighty you are, when you touch his glory and you want to take the glory that belongs to God, you are already in trouble with God and by the time God decides to humble you, I can assure you that it will not be pleasant, you will not like it, that's why if God really loves you, he will put you in check and restrain you from committing such great blunder of becoming to proud of yourself and thinking that you are the one that deserves it and not God.

The messenger of Satan (Angellos) came to buffet Paul with a thorn in the flesh.

Moses and Aaron were commanded by God to speak to the rock in Numbers chapter 20.

What did they do?

Numbers 20:7-12 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.
And Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him.
And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock?
And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.
And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.

The punishment after this was terrible.

Aaron was stripped of his priesthood office while Moses was stopped by God from entering the promises land. So sad.

Paul said in 1 Corinthians 9:27

1 Corinthians 9:27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Paul did a very painful thing to his body, he dealt a big blow on himself by keeping under his body,
The Greek word is Hupopiazo: to strike one under the eye, to beat black and blue. To make the body to subject to God's instructions. Severe killing of the body. So that he will not be a castaway.

This is strong meat. Easy to digest for those who will understand but difficult to eat for those who will disapprove it

God has various ways to humble people, he can delay answers to your prayers, he can pass you through difficulties and make you to be ridiculed by your colleagues.
He make you go round and round at one spot until you learn how to be humble.

The best way to be humble is to always ask for God's guidance in each important step or decisions to make.

This i believe will help someone to be humble.

A story was told of how to catch a horse. It was painful, you deceive the horse into a hole and you put loads on his back without food and water for several days and then the horse is ready to do whatever you want it to do for you.

This is what happens when someone is loved by God and God wants him to be humble and obedient.

Start humbling yourself now before God and don't allow God to do otherwise for you.

Start to consider other people opinions.

Start to listen to people below you in rank.

Start fellowshiping with small group.

Start counting others better than yourself.

Never look down in people.

Don't turn yourself to God.
You are there today another person will be there tomorrow.

We only know today, nobody knows tomorrow.
