Politics / Re: Nigeria Will Hit $1 Trillion Economy By 2030 — CBN Governor, Cardoso by kolafolabi(m): 6:15am On Jul 20
While the CBN Governor, Cardoso, projects that Nigeria will hit a $1 trillion economy by 2030, this projection appears unrealistic given the current economic challenges.

Nigeria faces persistent issues such as inadequate infrastructure, high unemployment rates, corruption, and dependence on oil revenues. Without significant reforms and diversification of the economy, achieving this target seems improbable.

Furthermore, political instability and security concerns also pose substantial barriers to such optimistic economic growth.

The Punch editorial highlights President Bola Tinubu's recent directive to tackle crude oil theft in Nigeria. Despite being a delayed response, this move is seen as crucial in addressing the severe impact of oil theft on the country's economy.

The editorial emphasizes the importance of implementing stringent measures to combat this issue, which has long plagued Nigeria's oil industry, leading to significant revenue losses and economic instability.

The success of this directive depends on the government's commitment and the effectiveness of enforcement strategies.

The Central Bank of Nigeria's directive to banks to transfer funds from dormant accounts and unclaimed dividends is a commendable move.

This initiative ensures that idle funds are effectively managed and possibly redirected for more productive uses, benefitting the broader economy.

Additionally, it provides a mechanism to address the issue of unclaimed financial assets, enhancing transparency and accountability within the financial sector.

Politics / Re: FG's Threat To Hike Petrol Price Made Us Accept ₦‎70,000 Minimum Wage - NLC by kolafolabi(m): 5:23am On Jul 20
I recall that during our struggle for a fair minimum wage, the least amount mentioned was 150,000. Given this context, it is surprising to see jubilation over a 70,000 agreement. While any increase is a step forward, we must remember our original goal and continue pushing for a wage that truly reflects the cost of living and ensures a dignified standard of life for all workers.

Moreover, the Federal Government's threat to hike the pump price of petrol should not have coerced us into accepting a lower wage. We must stand firm in our demands and not let external pressures force us into compromising on what is fair and just.

Let’s not settle for less than what was initially deemed fair and necessary.

This is a significant allegation against Ooni Ogunwusi. I pray the claims are untrue, but if they are indeed true, it would be a major problem. Such allegations can undermine trust in the real estate sector and have wide-ranging implications for all stakeholders involved. It's crucial for thorough investigations to be conducted to ascertain the facts and ensure justice is served.

Sports / Graham Potter Sacked As Chelsea Head Coach by kolafolabi(m): 8:16pm On Apr 02, 2023
Chelsea have sacked head coach Graham Potter.

The club moved to end Potter’s reign after just seven months following a 2-0 defeat by Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

The 47-year-old has overseen just four wins this calendar year and leaves Chelsea 11th in the Premier League table — 12 points off the Champions League places.

In a statement, the club said: “Chelsea FC has announced that Graham Potter has departed the club.

“Graham has agreed to collaborate with the Club to facilitate a smooth transition.

“In his time with the club, Graham has taken us to the quarter-final of the Champions League, where we will face Real Madrid.

“Chelsea would like to thank Graham for all his efforts and contribution and wish him well for the future.”

Potter signed a five-year deal to replace Thomas Tuchel in September, with Chelsea paying a buyout clause of £20million to lure him from Brighton.

But he won just seven of his 22 games in all competitions, with a January transfer window outlay of close to £300million failing to prompt a consistent upturn.

Potter, whom co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali said fit the club’s “vision” with his “innovation,” won five of his opening six fixtures in all competitions, but Chelsea slumped either side of the World Cup, notably suffering heavy losses to Brighton and Manchester City, as well as a home defeat to relegation-threatened Southampton.

The club rallied from a first-leg deficit to beat Borussia Dortmund and reach the Champions League quarter-finals, but despite adding January reinforcements including Enzo Fernandez, Mykhailo Mudryk and Joao Felix, they have continued to stutter in the Premier League.

Potter had previously insisted he was “not the problem” and suggested he had “probably the toughest job in football” attempting to overhaul a club in transition following the Boehly-Clearlake takeover last May.

He had also claimed that some players had pointed to a challenging pre-season before his arrival, but after a 2-0 defeat to Tottenham, he said he took “full responsibility” for continued poor form.

He took the blame again after a Villa defeat that was met with boos, and said he understood supporters’ “pain”.

Chelsea are next in action against Liverpool on Tuesday.

Who should be the next manager?
Julian Nagelsmann, Jose Mourinho or Zinedine Zidane.
