Why? Enugu was a PDP state in 2023 and Peter Obi won the presidential elecrion in the state by a landslide while PDP retained the governorship. This was the case in several APC states in the North as well where Tinubu failed to win. What do you think will change in 2027? All these defections by governors to the APC has still not given Tinubu that "momentum" like the one in 2015 did. The governors are only defecting because they were promised they will be running unopposed in their states. I would be very worried if I were an Agbadorian.

This is what is really happening. Every time bandits attack a particular location, security forces on ground cannot and do not respond until they call and receive clearance from Abuja. The same thing played out during the second attack on Yelwata, Benue state where soldiers deployed to that community, stood aside watching as rampaging killers went around killing. Men of the Nigerian police in that community, engaged the attackers until they ran out of bullets.

Earlier last week, the governor of Zamfara state mentioned that anytime bandits attack communities in his state, soldiers who are supposed to respond and ward off the attackers maintain that their hands are tied and they can do nothing unless they receive clearance from Abuja.

Are we beginning to see a pattern? The question worth asking now is who in the army hierarchy, the office of the NSA or the presidency, gave this order that clearance must be sought from Abuja before troops on ground engage these killers? Citizens of Nigeria are being killed and someone in Abuja insists that his permission must be sought before the killers are engaged with force? Is this how little the lives of Nigerians mean to this government?

The Benue state incident seems even more suspicious. The attackers exchanged fire with the police but did not do so with the soldiers even though they had clear lines of fire against the soldiers and could see them. The soldiers equally did not engage the attackers. Is there something these killers know that we don't?

How long must these killings continue?
