carsalesmannig: I Lost ₦850,000 Because I Rushed To Buy A Car (What I Learned)
A few years ago, a friend called me.
He had just bought a used car and was excited.
The paint was shiny.
The interior was clean.
The price looked like a steal.
The seller kept saying:
"Boss, if you don't pay today, another buyer is coming."
So he rushed.
Paid.
Collected the car.
Less than 30 days later, the problems started.
The gearbox developed issues.
The suspension needed work.
There were signs the vehicle had previous damage that nobody noticed before payment.
In total, he spent over ₦850,000 fixing things he never planned for.
The painful part?
Most of these problems could have been discovered before payment.
That experience taught me something:
A clean-looking car and a clean car are not always the same thing.
Today, whenever someone wants to buy a car, I tell them:
✅ Inspect first
✅ Verify documents
✅ Check the VIN
✅ Test drive the vehicle
✅ Bring a mechanic if possible
✅ Never let a seller rush your decision
The most expensive car is not the one with the highest price.
The most expensive car is the one with hidden problems.
QUESTION
In your opinion, what is the biggest mistake people make when buying a used car in Nigeria?
1. Chasing cheap prices
2. Trusting sellers too quickly
3. Skipping inspection
4. Ignoring vehicle history
5. Paying before verification
Let's discuss.
I would love to hear real experiences from buyers and car owners.
Your story might help someone avoid an expensive mistake. You see that "another buyer is coming to pay later today", 98% of the time, it is not true. |

Theunderman: your prices are too expensive Common Mehn, most of the guys on this thread sell way cheaper than you could get from stores.. I have patronized them, moreover the person you quoted has some of the best deals.. Notwithstanding it would be nice to see where you get cheaper so we can compare.. |
