Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media to Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, has sharply rebuked Nigerian lawyer and human rights activist Dele Farotimi for his scathing criticism of Wike.

Farotimi, in a post on X on July 7, 2025, labeled Wike the “poster boy of the Nigerian ruining class,” accusing him of embodying the flaws of Nigeria’s political elite, describing him as “cacophonous, parasitic, narcissistic, Lilliputian, gluttonous, myopic, and untouched by any desire for immortality.”

In a fiery response on X, Olayinka dismissed Farotimi’s remarks, asserting that the lawyer had abandoned objective reasoning. Olayinka, known for defending Wike’s interests, argued that Farotimi’s critique was driven by personal bias rather than substantive analysis, accusing him of joining a “coalition of confusion” with ulterior motives.

This aligns with Olayinka’s prior defenses, such as his June 2025 rebuttals against Dele Momodu, where he accused critics of exploiting historical struggles for personal gain.

According to Olayinka, he said, "When as a lawyer and human rice and beans activist like DeleFarotimi, you have lost your sense of rational reasoning, you will be supporting, promoting, and defending a man who built no single school throughout his 8 years as governor, but attacking another man who built the law school that many of the law graduates that will be called to bar this week attended."

The clash reflects ongoing political tensions, with Farotimi’s comments echoing sentiments from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, including figures like Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, who aim to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027. Olayinka’s retort underscores Wike’s camp’s strategy to counter opposition narratives, framing critics as misguided or opportunistic.

The problem with a lot of you guys on social media in this era is your intellectual laziness and this is no intent to insult anyone. You don't need t always rely on newspaper headlines, try as much as possible to get closer to politics and follow developing events. It's no longer news that the Senate, as we speak, are engaging in public consultations & town hall meetings for constitutional amendment in each geopolitical zone. Even today, there is a town hall engagement for the North Central region. The constitutional amendment is geared towards fiscal federalism and restructuring.

b. I have told you, a society can not evolve beyond the level of their education, awareness and political literacy that applies to their systems of government.

c. Do you think it's not without reason that govt promote voter apathy? The more apathy the more the political class wins. Voter apathy and voter disinterest in politics gives the political class room to impose their will, the more people get involved the more questions will be asked and the more people can agitate for a cause, that is why ur govt don't want to educate u well, and don't want u to come out in majority for any cause whatsoever.... Because ur majority threatens them... That's why they won't even want people like you to get involved.... Cos millions of people like you will cause big problem... Na why they don't promote voters card early enough , or voters card collection, they want it to be difficult for u so u won't get involved enough to ask questions or mobilize in force against them
So at this point, Obi coming is not the final solution... It's a step in a right direction cos 1. He will make u mumu politically apathetic interested in the politics because he inspire participation and build trust in leadership.

2. And he can champion electoral reforms, for coming President after him, a Tinubu won't give u any meaningful reform that won't allow rigging....
3. He can start a blueprint of reforms and fight against corruption
4. The most important is driving u mumu people to get involved and be brave to face your leaders instead of complaint. The more involved u are and the more interested u become in ur politics and the more people can ask questions and join the movement the better and easier for revolution

Your problems is that you don't understand what it means by theory and practical.
Theoretically and intellectually you are right
But Practically and by level of political education of the majority of masses in naija, ur idea won't work even if it's right
Because the people you need for that mobilization don't have that understanding and can't mobilize for what they don't understand or for what they can't see as practical
All those theory works where people understand the import. It has a lot to do with level of literacy, and political and democratic literacy.
We haven't gotten there yet.
The only hope here aside from revolution which Nigerians can't agree on because of tribalism, the more pragmatic is to look for a man u trust, rally around him, then when he gets there, hope that those idea u talked about he can start to champion it before he leaves. That's the only way. The next best way is revolution.... But Nigerians are too coward for revolution
