Webmasters / How To Create An Online Shopping Website Like Jumia, Konga And Aliexpress by Labanja(m): 9:28pm On Jul 12, 2017
This guide covers exactly how to set up a WordPress ecommerce website with the WooCommerce plugin.

The WordPress platform originally began as a way to blog online. Over the years, it has evolved into a full blown “content management system” – in other words, a backend software that can “power” any type of website – including an ecommerce website.

That said, WordPress as an ecommerce platform isn’t a good fit for everyone. Here’s a brief run down of reasons it would be a good fit:

You want full control over your website
You want to easily build out other portions of your site that aren’t ecommerce (blog, pages, etc)
You don’t want the monthly & transaction fees of an integrated ecommerce platform like Shopify orBigCommerce
You want to start small and build out your site as you grow (ie, and avoid the fees while doing so)
You aren’t daunted by some technical work – ie, hearing the acronym “FTP” makes you more curious than scared (note – WordPress is built to be easy for first timers, but it’s not a click, click, done software either)
You don’t plan on having a complicated payment processing system at first (ie, you’ll be using PayPal, Amazon or Google Wallet, not processing payments on your own server). WooCommerce works perfectly fine on SSL, but again, you’ll need that expertise to implement it properly
You want a common platform where you can easily pull developers in on a project basis as you grow
With wordpres, you can integrate customer payment directly into your account, via their credit cards. You can build an online shopping website which can be compared with one f these big online stores with wordpress

Getting Started – Installing WordPress
Your absolute first step for using WordPress for an ecommerce website is to actually install WordPress on a hosting account with your domain name. Here’s my guide to setting up WordPress step by step on a hosting account if you don’t have it already.

Ecommerce sites need even more memory for PHP than a standard WordPress install since they are larger and more complex than a simple blog. Having thousands of products + thousands of visitors can add even more resource requirements to your hosting account.

I recommend Betahost24/7 when hosting your website since you want to make an Ecommerce site, I recommend you go for their VPS or Semi VPS hosting which we use here on our site.

If you’re starting out big (thousands of products, many thousands of visitors), I recommend you go for VPS hosting to avoid server timeout on your site due to oversized traffic. Also check Betahost24/7’s VPS Plans

Intro to WordPress Ecommerce Options
There are really 3 components that make a “regular” website an “ecommerce” website – product pages, shopping cart, and a checkout process.

You can add the ecommerce functionality to WordPress with a plugin. Plugins are separate pieces of software that you install and activate into WordPress that basically adds to what it can do.

In this case, we need a plugin that will create custom product pages, that will have a shopping cart functionality allowing individual visitors to add products to a cart throughout the time they are on the site, and that will sync up with a payments system to accept payments, and match those payments up with the visitors’ products purchased. Wow.

There are a lot of plugin options to turn your WordPress site into an ecommerce site, but by far and away the leader is WooCommerce byWooThemes.

It has the functionality, the ease of use, the reputation, community, and versatility to be a solid long term choice for an ecommerce plugin.

It’s the most search engine optimization-friendly ecommerce platform I’ve seen. I’m an SEO Specialist who’s worked on major brands’ platforms, and from an SEO perspective, I would love to be able to work with WooCommerce. It gets rid of most all duplicate content (a SEO plague for online stores) and has Schema markup built-in.

Plus, the company that creates it, WooThemes, has been a core part of the WordPress community for years. In fact,Woocommerce has been acquired by the same company that owns and supports the WordPress.org foundation. Since they’ve open-sourced the software…it’s not going away anytime soon.

It has support, and plenty of versatility for what you’ll need.

Oh – and it’s free.

Here’s WooTheme’s sales pitch & overview. continue reading at http://www.itk.com.ng/web-developement-blogging/wordpress/create-online-shopping-website-like-jumia-konga-aliexpress/
Nairaland / General / Google’s New App, “triangle” Helps You Manage Your Data Better by Labanja(m): 10:54am On Jul 12, 2017
Google recently began testing a new tool for helping people better manage the mobile data used by their smartphones. The new Android app, called Triangle, is currently being tested in the Philippines, and lets you do things like view your data balance, see which apps are accounting for the most data usage and even block individual applications from using your mobile data, among other things.

The problem of limited data is not one that’s as common here in the U.S., where unlimited data plans are the norm, and bandwidth is more readily available. However, in a number of emerging markets, mobile data usage is often a concern. With Triangle, Google is experimenting with a different way to cut down on mobile data by giving users more granular control over how that data is being used.

This isn’t Google’s first attempt at offering better data usage controls for mobile consumers. The company, years ago, added a “Data Saver” mode to its mobile Chrome browser, for example, and it has introduced built-in data-saver controls in select devices, like the Data Saver feature in its Pixel phones.

Triangle, by comparison, offers more fine-grained control over your applications compared to what’s provided within Pixel.

At the individual application level, Triangle users can customize how their apps are allowed to use data by choosing between options like 10 minutes at a time, 30 minutes or “Always.”

Users are also able to see their prepaid mobile data balance on carriers like Globe and Smart, as well as get an overview of their data-hogging apps. The carriers are offering data rewards through Triangle, as well, which lets users download and try new apps without impacting data, and encourages the use of existing apps in exchange for... Phones / A Brief History Of Apple’s Iphone by Labanja(m): 10:34am On Jul 12, 2017
A brief history of the iPhone
Steve Jobs called the first iPhone“magic.” It was a customary bit of showmanship from Apple’s late-founder, but a decade after that announcement, it’s difficult to overstate the profound impact the smartphone has had on the mobile industry.

The first iPhone was met with cautious excitement by many in the press — after all, where did the company get off thinking it could replace a physical keyboard with a touchscreen? But all these years later, the device still serves at the template for a majority of modern smartphones. In the intervening decade, the company has redefined the category time and again, starting the following year, when Apple revolutionized mobile software with the introduction of the App Store.

Here’s a quick look back at the ups and downs of a decade of iPhone, starting with a little bit of pre-history.

1/10

1993 – The Apple Newton

In 1993, the world wasn’t ready for the Apple Newton MessagePad — or maybe it wasn’t ready for the world. The answer is probably a bit of both. Apple’s first shot at an all-screen mobile computing device was a bit of a wash, in spite of then-groundbreaking innovations like handwriting recognition. The personal assistant carried a $699 price tag (around $1,181 in 2017 money) and weighed in at north of a pound. It would take nearly a decade and a half for the company to really nail mobile computing, but the Newton was an important predecessor to the iPhone and iPad, and at least we got a classicSimpsons bit out of it.

2/10

2001 – The iPod

The iPod is the platonic ideal of an Apple product. It wasn’t the first MP3 by any stretch of the imagination, nor was iTunes anywhere close to being the first digital music player. But Apple was arguably the first to really get the category right, through a dead-simple syncing system and hardware controls. Within a few years, the brand name would become synonymous with the category, starting with the once amazing promise of putting “1,000 songs in your pocket.”

3/10

2005 – Motorola Rokr E1

In 2005, Motorola was sitting pretty, thanks to the success..... Continue reading at http://www.itk.com.ng/technology/mobile-phones-and-tablets/brief-history-apples-iphone/
Programming / Code Teaching App "Solo Learn" Wins Fbstart App Of The Year by Labanja(m): 10:21am On Jul 12, 2017
Facebook has announced its “FbStart Apps of the Year”, which is an event which recognizes the most successful apps from the global FbStart program. This year’s Grand Prize winner is
SoloLearn (iOS/Android] which is a free mobile-first app for anyone who wants to learn how to code.

SoloLearn’s CEO and Co-founder Davit Kocharyan came up with the idea for the app in his native Armenia, where most of their team is based, to teach coding to the local population.

The app’s idea is to educate members through game mechanics, peer-to-peer sharing, and user-generated content. SoloLearn community members compete in head-to-head challenges and unlock hidden lessons. It offers 12 free courses, including JavaScript, Swift, Python, C++, and HTML/CSS.

Yeva Hyusyan, CEO and Co-founder of SoloLearn told me the app had hit two major milestones. She said the first is that it’s turned into the “friendliest” community of peer learners. “You get an answer from your peers in our Q&A forum within minutes; we have over half a million public codes on SoloLearn today that are used as a great peer-to-peer learning tool; tens of thousands interactive peer-to-peer challenges are completed daily,” she said.

The second is that users are generating a lot of the content themselves.

The app has also gotten more traction, with now 5+ million profiled learners; 1.5M quizzes completed daily; 3 codes are compiled every second; and over 1,000 answers are

Car Talk / This Techie Guy “george Hotz" Created A Device Of That Would Let You Hack Ur Car by Labanja(m): 10:14am On Jul 10, 2017
Famous hacker George Hotz put his first car product on the market on Friday, a few months after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration prevented him from selling a self-driving roof kit.

Called Panda, the device sells for $88 and can plug into a vehicle’s OBDII port to access data typically only available to vehicle manufacturers. Hotz also released a software tool called Cabana that will allow car enthusiasts to reverse engineer their cars using the data compiled by Panda.

George Hotz, An American Developer
Why would you want to do that?

The idea is to let people “hack” their cars the same way they can tinker with and customize a computer. That could mean souping up a vehicle with semi-autonomous features. Using the Panda/Cabana combo, for example, someone could theoretically write software to give a car automatic braking or advanced cruise control (assuming the car has the necessary sensors built-in).

The Panda dongle can also let car owners geek out and access information about the car’s performance under certain conditions, such as how fast the car can accelerate on a full tank of gas versus a half tank of gas.

Clearly, this isn’t aimed at the average driver.

Hotz is best known as the first person to hack the iPhone when he was 17, allowing people to use the phone on other networks aside from AT&T’s. He also broke into the PlayStation 3 in 2010 when he was 20.

Both Panda and Cabana are being sold by Hotz’ startup, Comma AI, which initially planned to sell a self-driving retrofit kit for $999 at the end of 2016.

Nairaland / General / Watch Ur Comment Or U Won’t Receive Our Blessings" Bishop Warns Nnamdi Kanu by Labanja(m): 7:42pm On Jul 09, 2017
The leader of the Anglican Communion in Enugu state, Archbishop Emmanuel Chukwuma has warned the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu to watch his comments.

Chukwuma also called on the IPOB leader to seek the advice of Igbo elders on how to go about his agenda.

The Anglican Bishop also criticised Kanu for calling on Igbos to adopt Judaism.

Chukwima said “IPOB should know that if they want to get the blessings of the elders and some of us, they should be cautioned in the way they act. Otherwise, if we back out from them, they will lose relevance.

“Since Kanu came out, has he come to see me? But we fought and talked about him. All he does is to be talking about Judaism. Where do we have Judaism in the East? He shouldn’t be a religious bastard. Has he come to see me?

“And many of us fought for him and he came out. Look, Kanu is not an Igbo leader. So he should cool down otherwise he will lose his relevance. He is not an Igbo leader.

“He did not see the.... Read more at http://www.itk.com.ng/news/biafra-news/watch-your-comments-or-you-wont-receive-our-blessings-anglican-bishop-warns-nnamdi-kanu-over-comments/
