Speaking at an event in Lagos marking 34 years of German unity, hosted by German Consul General Weert Bomer, Mbah outlined Enugu’s investment potential and the government’s readiness to support private ventures.

Mbah highlighted Enugu’s historic significance, stemming from its coal discovery 115 years ago, while detailing efforts to reimagine the state’s economy. He revealed plans to grow Enugu’s GDP from $4.4 billion to $30 billion over the next four to eight years by removing bureaucratic hurdles, digitizing processes, and creating a secure and investor-friendly environment.

The governor also pointed to progress in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and road development as key pillars of the state’s growth strategy. He reaffirmed Enugu’s commitment to providing the necessary support for foreign investors to thrive.

Mbah called on German businesses to explore opportunities in Enugu, noting that strengthened relations between Nigeria and Germany could pave the way for mutual economic benefits.

Lagos, Nigeria – A Chinese national, Zhengjia Jin, is currently embroiled in a high-profile corruption case in Nigeria. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has leveled serious allegations against Jin, accusing him of stealing over N301 million from the Golden Diamond Industrial Manufacturing Company Ltd.

The EFCC alleges that Jin embezzled the funds and deposited them into his personal Access Bank account (number 1861390260) belonging to Golden Diamond Industrial Manufacturing Company Ltd. The agency further claims that Jin accepted bribes from individuals seeking business deals with the company.

Jin has formally denied all charges brought against him. However, a Nigerian court has ordered his detention pending a bail hearing scheduled for November 22nd. If convicted, Jin could face a substantial prison sentence.

The country continues to combat corruption and are determined to hold both domestic and international individuals accountable for financial crimes.

Lagos, Nigeria – Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has issued a firm warning to residents of Banana Island, urging them to adhere strictly to the state’s building and environmental regulations, as part of ongoing efforts to address persistent flooding in the affluent neighborhood. His remarks came after an inauguration of community development projects on Saturday, which was marked by growing concerns over the region’s drainage challenges.

Governor Sanwo-Olu was on hand at the event organized by the Banana Island Property Owners and Residents Association (BIPORAL), where several major projects were unveiled. The initiatives, aimed at enhancing the quality of life for residents, included a newly built administrative office, a fire truck, a recreational park, a clubhouse, a five-a-side football pitch, and a tennis court. The governor lauded the association for its contributions toward improving the neighborhood’s infrastructure.

However, the event was marred by ongoing concerns about flooding in the area, which has become increasingly problematic, especially during the rainy season. Residents raised alarms over the state of drainage systems, particularly the road leading into the estate. They expressed frustration at the worsening waterlogging during heavy rainfall, urging the governor to intervene urgently.

Lagos, Nigeria – A cheque of N1.5 million was presented to each of the families of 25 deceased members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Lagos State Council, in a powerful show of support and solidarity. Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle Sego, Chairman of the NURTW Lagos State Council, spearheaded the initiative, personally donating an additional N1 million to the widow of a former executive member. This gesture was part of the union’s broader effort to ensure that the families of its late members, who had served the union in various executive roles and as trustees, were not left to struggle in their time of grief.


Sego shared that the initiative was born out of deep empathy and a genuine commitment to ensuring the families of deceased members were properly cared for. The fallen members, who passed away between January and October 2024, had been integral to the union’s growth and stability, having held key roles across various branches and zones throughout Lagos State. Their dedication had been central to the union’s operations, and Sego emphasized that the gesture was a way of recognizing their invaluable contributions even after their passing.

This initiative is not stipulated in our constitution, but it is something I believe we must do. We cannot leave our people to suffer, Sego said while presenting the cheques. We are providing this assistance from the union’s resources, not personal wealth, and we are doing so with fairness and without discrimination. Whether the deceased had one wife or multiple, each family will receive the same amount.


The union’s leadership made it clear that this act of generosity was part of a larger, ongoing commitment to the well-being of members and their families. Sego vowed to continue supporting the families of deceased members, as well as elderly or vulnerable members who may no longer be active in the union. He expressed his determination to build a legacy that honored the work and sacrifices of those who helped shape the union into what it is today.

While the event was largely a display of solidarity and generosity, a brief moment of tension occurred when Mrs. Olufunmilayo Ogunbunmi, the widow of Comrade Wasiu Ogunbunmi from Ikorodu, raised concerns. She explained that she was the third wife of the deceased, and her son, the youngest of his children, had not received the cheque intended for her late husband. Her situation prompted a private discussion, and it was resolved without disrupting the event.

The ceremony was met with warm applause and appreciation from the attendees, which included the families of the late union members. Many expressed their heartfelt thanks to Sego for remembering their loved ones in such a meaningful way, especially in a time of economic difficulty for many in the country. Their prayers for Sego’s continued success and strength resonated throughout the gathering.

A beneficiary, Mrs. Oluwafunmilayo Ogunbunmi, expressed her surprise at receiving an additional N1 million donation from Sego. “I didn’t know anything about this program before today. I was shocked when I learned that Alhaji Sego was giving me this personal support. This money will help me take care of my son, pay my rent, and keep my business running,” she said.

Lagos, Nigeria – By transitioning to a fully digital platform, the ministry aims to enhance inter-state park accreditation and the digital manifest system, securely capturing and storing passenger information in real-time. This digital transformation will provide authorities with immediate access to accurate data, enabling swift response in emergency situations. The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation launched the program to accredit interstate parks and digitize passenger manifests, aiming to improve safety, reliability, and efficiency in interstate travel throughout the state.

Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, unveiled the initiative at a news conference on Thursday. He described it as an ambitious effort to standardize interstate parks and modernize the passenger manifest system.

Osiyemi explained that the digitization of the passenger manifest system is a key component of the initiative. Currently, the system relies on paper-based records, which can lead to inefficiencies, delays, and potential security risks.

In addition to the digital overhaul, the ministry is introducing a rigorous accreditation system for all interstate parks operating within Lagos State. Parks that meet high safety standards, service, and operational standards will receive official certification from the ministry. This certification will be prominently displayed, assuring passengers that they are boarding from a state-recognized and trusted facility.

The ministry is also addressing the issue of unregulated roadside parks, often referred to as “mushroom” parks. These facilities, which operate outside of regulatory frameworks, pose significant safety risks to travelers. The ministry is working with park operators to improve these facilities and bring them into compliance with the new standards.

To ensure a smooth implementation of the initiative, the ministry has launched a pilot program in the Ojota area of Lagos. This pilot project will allow the ministry to fine-tune the digital platform and accreditation process before rolling it out statewide.

With over 30 managed parks and over 100 unmanaged parks currently operating in Lagos, the ministry’s efforts to modernize interstate travel are a significant step forward. By prioritizing safety, efficiency, and passenger comfort, the government aims to create a more secure and convenient travel experience for residents and visitors alike.

Ikorodu, Lagos – The dispute began when residents of TOS Estate in Ikorodu sought to join the Ibeshe GRA II Community Development Association (CDA) to improve security and foster a harmonious neighborhood. Despite initial resistance, the TOS Estate residents were eventually accepted into the CDA.

However, tensions escalated shortly after their inclusion, as some Ibeshe GRA II residents, backed by Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) officials, began claiming ownership over land within the TOS Estate. These individuals have allegedly been harassing residents and demolishing houses, including a recent incident on October 10, 2024.

Through their legal representative, Ezekiel Ogbaide & Co., the affected residents have filed a lawsuit and obtained a court order restraining further demolitions. Despite the legal injunction, the harassment and demolitions continue, causing significant distress and displacement for many families.

The residents accuse LASBCA officials of colluding with the GRA II residents, alleging that two children from TOS Estate were detained on fabricated charges. They are now urging the state government to investigate the matter and take immediate action to protect their rights and property.

Residents of TOS Estate have particularly urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to intervene and halt what they claim are unlawful demolitions of their homes, reportedly carried out by some Ibeshe GRA II residents in collaboration with LASBCA officials.

Lagos, Nigeria – Mr. Babalola Obilana, Director-General of the Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC), confirmed that the Lagos State Government has disbursed N740 million in accrued pension rights to 348 retirees. This payment covers past service benefits earned before the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) was introduced in 2007.

He highlighted the state government’s dedicated efforts to streamline pension processes, with a strong focus on transparency, efficiency, and long-term sustainability. Dr. Hamzat criticized the current physical planning efforts in Lagos, highlighting the lack of proper land management as a major factor in the state’s vulnerability to climate change. He explained that Lagos’s coastal geography, combined with its dense population, makes the city particularly susceptible to flooding and other climate-related disasters. The Deputy Governor stressed that rising sea levels and extreme heat pose existential threats, not just environmental concerns, and called for immediate attention to climate adaptation measures.

He further urged the state government to incorporate robust climate adaptation strategies into its future development plans. Additionally, Dr. Hamzat stressed the need for judicial cooperation to address land-related challenges, calling on the judiciary to support reforms that ensure the safety and future of Lagos residents.

Echoing these concerns, Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Lawal Pedro SAN, highlighted the need for improved efficiency in the justice system. He revealed that over 6,000 cases involving the government were pending as of July 2024, stressing the importance of reducing litigation and focusing on alternative dispute resolution methods to ease the burden on the courts.

Lagos, Nigeria – A tragic tanker fire on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has claimed the life of a mother of four and left numerous others injured and displaced. The incident occurred on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, when a petrol-laden tanker overturned near a commercial bank.

Eyewitnesses reported that the driver of the tanker fell asleep at the wheel, causing the vehicle to lose control and explode. The resulting fire spread rapidly, damaging homes and businesses within a kilometer of the expressway. The community suffered significant property damage, with buildings sustaining shattered windows, damaged roofs, and cracked walls.

Mercy Emmanuel, a resident of the area, tragically lost her life in the fire while attempting to escape. Her husband, Ismail Emmanuel, recounted the harrowing ordeal of seeking medical help and facing a staggering hospital deposit. Despite their desperate efforts, Mercy succumbed to her injuries.

Another resident, Bidemi, shared that a neighbor, known as Iya Ada, was also injured while trying to save her children. Her home was severely damaged, and she is currently hospitalized.

The tanker fire has left the community devastated, with many residents losing their homes, livelihoods, and loved ones. Several victims have called on Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State for support, as many lost vehicles that were essential for their income.

Governor Abiodun has expressed his condolences to the affected families and urged tanker drivers to exercise caution on the roads. The incident highlights the urgent need for improved road safety measures and stricter regulations to prevent such tragedies in the future.
