Understanding:The Game Changer. (1)

Everyday,Women and men in our society strive vigorously by trying different means and various ways to better themselves either financially,socially,academically,spiritually and so on. However, the desired result does not always match the input in resources(time,money and energy etc.) expended. We give in all our best and we get so little in return. This arouses desperation in us as we gather energy and momentum from our resilient spirit and this actions are tried again routinely and the same results are achieved. Frustration gradually builds up and we still have no option than to try again. As some motivational speakers would say “if at first you don’t succeed, try try try again”. We haven’t clearly noticed that this saying might not be relevant for all situations as an increase in speed and zeal to the wrong direction still ends in futility.

Albert Einstein once said “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different result”

After an inspired critical and careful consideration of the above, I came into conclusion and strongly believe and affirm that the missing ingredient in our recipe for success is simply Understanding.-That innate ability of perception, awareness and strong judgement of a situation. Understanding our position in situations in life gives us a fine edge over thos situations.

Often times,we pant and scamper around for how to solve problems and challenges that we face over time, only few people ask the question why?

Why should I go to school as a student should precede How do I go to school?

Why am I taking up this Job ought to precede how do I get a job?

Why should I get married should come before how do I get married?.

As an undergraduate student of the prestigious University of Lagos, I took some courses in which the lecturers compulsorily demanded that students copy series of lecture notes from materials into our notebooks and appropriated stern sanctions in cases of default. One of the rationale behind such idea was to familiarize the students with the notes as they write. In doing this, the subject terminologies and concept sinks into their subconscious and makes learning and impacting easier for both parties.However due to lack of understanding, Most students miss out on these benefits as they either default by not copying the note or by ‘smartly’ giving out the note on contracts to other to students to write on their behalf.

Perhaps,if they had understood the whole concept, they wouldn’t have made such gross mistakes.



Understanding outrightly negates fear.

Most people are at the dead ends of life because they don’t simply understand why they were in that position in the first place. Lack of understanding is one key reason why people will panic and cry at the slightest inconvenience and challenges not knowing that the encounter of a negative clearly indicates that there is surely a positive somewhere.

Jesus understood that Lazarus death was an avenue to show and give glory to his father,hence he was at rest when others were full of fear and unrest.

John 11:4

4 When he heard this, Jesus said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.”

After critical analysis of the scriptures and the workings of God. The great apostle saw vividly and wrote the ‘equation of rest’ thus-

28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Hence, nothing else would move him to panic and fear in times of adversity or situations of challenges. He didn’t just know, he understood.

Understanding helps us get a clearer picture of purpose and know what to do,when to do and how to do the things we ought to as regarding matters and issues fulfilling purpose and destiny. A man that is suppose to be an international athlete will not die in the quest of getting a PHD in Economics.

This picture helps us to maximize time and opportunity because we know that every window of opportunity in time is a stepping stone to another, thus we can attain the true stature of the sons of Issachar that knew what God was doing, when He was doing it,why he was doing and how he was going to do it.

There is nothing so appealing and soothing to a person than to be loved and accepted by everyone,if not everyone but at least our immediate environment such as friends and family. They should be our primary source of love and acceptance. However, this narrative isn’t always so. From childhood, a girl can be hated by her peers if she is seemingly more brilliant than her peers or if a boy have more toys than his friends, he suddenly becomes the subject of envy. This hate attitude in humans can said to be natural respond to cases or situations in which a person feels or believe he or she is inferior to the other party in worth or value as the case may be . This “hate” attitude is even heightened if the latter has a flamboyant and showy personality.

Oftentimes,a responsible student who does and submit her assignment in due time is called “serious student” or “ITK”(I too know) with hot tone of hatred and sarcasm by her classmates because they have been lackadaisical in their work. If they have done their duty diligently, there would not have been need for any sort of name calling.

Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? 7 If you do what is RIGHT, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.………….

It can be clearly observed from the following scripture that a persons inability of doing what is right stirs up the hatred attitude in him which is the root of all sort of bad and immoral behaviors.We all know the end to that story and how Cain ended up in killing his brother because of hatred.

This attitude has been a decadence from ages which continues to eat up our society up in all spheres.


Co-workers are angry and bitter towards their colleague because he has some skills that gives him an higher edge in the company which he probably got by investing time, money, energy and other resources in his formative stages when the coworkers was settling for immediate gratification and benefits. Sadly,This even exist among in christian circles. A believer disdains the miracle working ability of his brethren in another denomination simply because he cannot walk in those dimensions. The former “might” have given himself to another venture when the latter was investing in the secret place in which he is profiting now. The list of such real life scenarios is endless.

How do we approach these cases and heal ourselves of this disease if we are found wanting based on the analysis above?

We start by first making ourselves accountable and responsible in all the things we do from the biggest task to the littlest ones. We have it in our mind that everything we do is worth our best.

Ecclesiastes 9:10(NIV)
10 Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might………
We also ought to engage and be open to self investment and development as this will have massive gains for us now and in the nearby future. Always be happy to celebrate other people’s success and well-doings being fully aware that you will be in their shoes sooner or later and you will also be happy if you were celebrated.

No man with any iota or seed of hatred within will ever enjoy the fullness of what God has to offer now in this life and in the world to come.

THE ANCIENT WAR

It is a WAR between two sides and it has been there before you existed. It's not an idea or a concept made up by one random guy!
It is a WAR.
The WAR consists of streams of BATTLES here and there, but have it in mind that the WAR is one. When you fight those small BATTLES here and there, Be sure to know that the outcome of it accounts on and to the WAR.
It is not about you and it was all about you. Acquainting yourself with the big picture of the WAR helps in your victorious approach to those small torrents of BATTLES. Don't be emotional about it. Be Intentional. They will not disappear because you wept and cried your eyes out. They are won by strategies and might!

The end is victorious o ye soldier. Keep pressing in HIS might, HE is your GRANDCOMMANDER, HE is your ARSENAL. You loose sight of HIM, you have lost the battle before it has started.
Indeed, it is in HIM you live, you move and have your entire being. You cant afford to fall like those without support. He is your defensive mechanism in this BATTLE.
Stay FOCUSED on HIM.

THE ENTITLEMENT DISPOSITION- A KILLER TO GREATNESS.

As a student of the prestigious university of Lagos, I've seen often times student who are bored and totally disconnected with the programs of a seminar or a conference glue their bottoms to the seat of the hall for the sole purpose of the reward of their attendance- “item 7”. This has gone so bizarre that organizers of programs and events lure their attendees with the catch phrase of “refreshment will be served” at the end of the publicity banners and flyer. You will be amazed to see people scampering and bustling at the end of the meeting to apprehend their fair share of the labour of waiting and enduring the long and boring event. Some people will even wait extra hours for the next batch of refreshment to be delivered. When considering the tenacity and diligence expended in this quest to the quality and content of the so called refreshment collected at the end of the day, you are left numbed. The truth is that most people can still afford a decent meal that is way better than what was served to them for their precious time.
You see ,after doing some critical analysis, I found out largely , that the cause of this malady was an innate syndrome called the “entitlement mentality”. This mindset carries a more harm than good potency. The above analogy which is somehow justifiable by logic but impedes greater gains has mostly been the reason why so many people never maximize their abilities and potentials in life. It is saddening to see people cleave unto their rightful dues which is not wrong but the neglecting of all other possibility to be better off. When people mistake some basic privileges as rights then pin their whole being on those privileges.
When you ask a young man the reason for his idleness, he is quick to tag all his misfortunes on the government of a nation where his peers are flourishing in the same system or ask student the cause of she not doing well in her studies, she simply points to the flaws in the academic system where some of her classmates her high fliers in which some are self taught. A man who is privileged to have a father,keeps complaining on how he is not being provided for adequately,else he would not be in his present state.All this and many more legitimate entitlement reasoning give continual rise to the ever increasing mediocrity in the society.
When we ignore and shut down all other massive openings and possibility of being the best of the ourselves as a result arising from lesser dues accredited to us, we are just shortchanging ourselves.
Being fully aware that life is made of both the positive and negative means if well channeled gives rise to a positive end, The right thing to do should be to turbo oneself up on the fuels of those negativity surrounding us. It might not be simple as said but it is sure and highly effective.Your ability to change focus and behold a panoramic view of yourself is what springs you out the hedge you have created for yourselves. It is not all about you.
Step out of that comfortable entitlement zone and dash out fully using all stumbling blocks as stepping stones to greater heights. You ll be so amazed to discover those capabilities and potentials hidden on the inside of you.
