blackbriar: Sorry. I meant to say "While" Gerrard59: Send an email to the school showing that you got denied the visa. A refund should be effected within two weeks of validating your request. But I have a question about the visa denial. Did you have with you the COE at the time of applying for a visa? I have seen some big Japanese twitter account make some racist tweets on their timeline with comments in approval of the tweet. Is that really the reality of thing in Japan? |

Gerrard59: Who are these "people", and what are these "goods" bought from Europe? Who are these goods "sold to"? . I know of a truck driver who is also into exportation in Germany that said he has multiple clients across Nigeria that he helps procure goods in Germany and ships to Nigeria |

Gerrard59: Cars then other technological products, but all of its major exports are being fought off by strong Chinese and Korean competitors. Thing is: aside from specialty chemicals, every other major export the Japanese are good at, the Chinese and Koreans are equally good at it and theirs are cheaper. The Chinese produce in large volumes, enough to drown others. Yes this is very true, but people still go to Europe to buy and import goods for reasons best know to them. I know people import Shuttle bus(Korope) a lot from japan. But are there steps/measures Japan are taking to compete with China's volume of production? |
Travel › Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by LalaGreen247: 3:48pm On Jun 02 |
Gerrard59: Goods from Japan are way too expensive compared to their Chinese counterparts. Even the spare parts, na used ones o, not new ones. Newer ones are obtained from China. There is nothing the Japanese can produce that there isn't a much affordable Chinese replica that works the same, especially for the African market.
The Japanese are in for a huge reckoning with China when it comes to manufactured goods. What would you say is currently Japan's largest export? |

Gerrard59: Then, in this case, she should continue with her job in the federal school while you build capital and expertise. Then apply for a PhD fully prepared with all docs, tests and applications. Application fees should not be a problem. That is where your built-up capital becomes useful.
Australia is better off and within the Asia-Pacific region. In all, na money be the koko. So build up the capital and strike hard when it is time.
This is something I have not written about here, but the car parts/container business I have seen here (I am a member of the Igbo Union in my region) does not look profitable to me and is physically demanding. Without sounding immodest, I can make that kind of money in my family's business back home once I am in full control. Don't get me wrong: there is money, just not the kind of money I want or the kind of money I expected. I have met another man who said there is money doing the same business in China rather than Japan because goods are cheaper, and this is true.
See the new rave behind young people visiting China, even to the factories for goods. You don't have such here, and factory goods are usually cheaper or more affordable for Nigerians. Although goods from Japan have higher quality, but pricing is the issue for Nigerians. The weak yen might help businesses more now than when I got in. Nevertheless, not the kind of money I am interested in.
Your decision to live in either country is your choice, and I respect it. Are there other businesses someone can export from Japan inorder to make good money?? I'm looking at biomedical tools/devices since that's what my research would be about but I haven't done a market research on Nigeria and possibly other African countries. |

Gerrard59: Best wishes in your quest. Aim to get in for this October or April 2027 session, as there are plans, and some have actually happened, by national universities to increase tuition fees for foreign students. Once again thanks. I had the meeting with the professor today and everything went smoothly. Special Shout to blackbriar for the advice he gave on making a presentation on page 47, which I did and the prof appreciated how I communicated my intentions. He further when on to send me 3 doc which contains details on how to apply and where to fill in my details, in one of the documents, it contains their account details and the application 9,800 yen. My question is that am I to pay the money via a Nigeria bank, if yes is it just any bank or there are specific banks? |

Gerrard59: You didn't answer his question about whether it's a national or private university? Sorry for the delay It's National university A prof has shown interest in my request, but he said he wants to speak with my recommender who happens to be the current HOD of my dept. He sent an email to him which my hod responded, after which he requested for an online but my HOD is yet to respond due to his busy schedule. I just tire Anyways another professor has scheduled a meeting with me for next week |

blackbriar: It is a bit difficult to understand your explanation. Are the schools you have applied to saying that only international students with scholarsips are allowed? What schools are you looking at, National or Private Universities? How have you worded your introduction mail? No, some are tell me to apply for scholarship, as they don't believe I can fund it |
Travel › Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by LalaGreen247: 7:28pm On Apr 30 |
Gerrard59: You use forceful/confident words to express yourself as the person willing to finance the education. Be explicit and direct. Something like this:
Prof: How do you intend to fund your education? You: My parents would fund my education, including the living expenses and tuition fees. From my research, estimated living expenses for international students in Fukuoka (put a link to where you found the estimates) are 100K yen for a month. A two year master's brings this to 2.4m yen. Together with the admission fee and tuition fee, my parents would fund them. Nevertheless, if there are private scholarships, I would still be interested, especially for research purposes.
When you are asked to provide proof of financial statements, you provide the ones bearing your sponsor, in this case, your parents. You have to be bold in the way you let them know you or your loved ones can handle the expenses. Thanks |

Gerrard59: What did you tell them?
If I am not mistaken, I got my then admission letter in April/May ahead of the October session. The COE takes about three months to process, could be slower or faster these days now that VHF is involved. All things been equal, the applicant should have obtained the COE by August. I told them that I'm self sponsored, but they keep telling me international students are on scholarship Noted, thanks |

Hi guys, after messaging some of the professor, some seems worried/doubt about my ability to self-support my self, how do you guys navigate around this??
Secondly, is it too late to aim for October, because a female prof told me that the October batch in her school started processing their visa last month |

Gerrard59: Students are allowed to apply for scholarships once they arrive in the country. Get your supervisor's consent and the required documents, that's all. Thanks I'll look into this |
Travel › Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by LalaGreen247: 10:25pm On Apr 17 |
Gerrard59: Yes. The issue is that when the school requests evidence of living expenses, it wants provision for two years, and this provision should exclude tuition and admission fees. Except when not asked, just provide the provision for two years. I don't know about non-national universities, but at national universities, you are required to pay fees per semester, not per year. So in each semester, you will be required to pay for that period. Thus, you have the time to work so as to raise money for the following semester. Since national universities are the most affordable, if you max the hours working at a warehouse, as people I know did, you can raise the following semester's fees. But na your body go tell you. This is the reason you should hunt for scholarships in your first semester, so you are not compelled to work odd jobs for odd hours so you can raise money. Are there schools in Japan that allows this? |

blackbriar: The screenshot below is from Page 46 of this thread. I will advise you try the same approach. If you look at any admission page of any university, there is usually a breakdown of costs. Try to do the estimate, currency conversion and summation
For example, this is a cost breakdown from Hiroshima University https://www.hiroshima-u.ac.jp/en/international/huiao/admissionexpenses Thanks once again please I have some questions on this. 1. Will there be any limitations to working while on this program? 2. Will I be required to leave the country after I'm done with this program or I can still stay back and work? 3. Is there a pathway to PR while/after this program? 4. What are the cons of a research program over masters. Thanks boss |
