Celebrities / Re: Omotola Jalade Has Stretch Marks? by lanegra(f): 11:44pm On Feb 02, 2008
Hey you guys, let me let you in on a little secret:

MOST WOMEN HAVE STRETCH MARKS!!

Here's another secret:

MANY MEN ALSO HAVE STRETCH MARKS!

GASP!!! shocked

People, it's NORMAL. Not some "disease". You can have stretch marks on your butt, your thighs, under your arms, etc. Anyone can have them, and MANY MANY people do.

TRUST ME, most women have them SOMEWHERE. Whether they are big or small.

Get used to it.
Celebrities / Re: Most Handsome White Men/Boys by lanegra(f): 11:30pm On Feb 02, 2008
Iglesias is Latin, not white.

But anyway,

I think Matthew McConaughey is hot.

And about WentWorth Miller,

"My father is black and my mother is white. Therefore, I could answer to either, which kind of makes me a racial Lone Ranger, caught between two communities."--Wentworth Miller

He's "mulatto".

Celebrities / Re: Genevieve Nnaji vs. Halle Berry by lanegra(f): 10:59am On Dec 16, 2007
People act like Halle is SOOO light, when she's really not. She's really just a light-ish brown color. She's still brown, and nothing is wrong with that. I'm lighter than she is and both of my parents are black.

Not to say that lighter is better, because it's definitely not. I think that Genevieve Nnaji is gorgeous, honestly. I LOOOOVE dark skin, it's so beautiful to me. It's just so, solid and flawless (usually) and smooth looking.

I say this because I know the thread has become about skin color lol, which I'm sure the topic starter intended in some sick, twisted, back handed sort of way.

But yeah, if I had to chose, honestly I'd say Genevieve Nnaji, just because I'm American and I'm so used to Halle, Genevieve Nnaji seems more exotic to me and I like her skin tone.
Fashion/Clothing Market / Re: Tyra Banks Vs Naomi Campbell by lanegra(f): 10:03am On Dec 16, 2007
Oh and another thing, Tyra is fat now. Let's face it, the girl is getting chunky.

At least Naomi is keeping her nice super model figure.
Fashion/Clothing Market / Re: Tyra Banks Vs Naomi Campbell by lanegra(f): 9:59am On Dec 16, 2007
White N'Kem (or whatever your name is), it's funny you say Tyra is more "professional", but really she's not. When you think about it, and if you've ever watched her show, she does act like a teenage girl (she's a little too old for that now), like the original poster mentioned.

The girl is really goofy and aloof.

Naomi on the other hand, seems more calm and below the radar, even though she obviously has temper tantrums (as told by the media), and likes to throw things at people. I still think Naomi is more put together. Maybe part of it has to do with the posh accent, lol.

But yeah, anyway, Naomi definitely is more beautiful to me, hands down. Tyra is too typical, Naomi has more of an exotic look, with flawless dark brown skin and chiseled features.
Culture / Re: is it proper to get pregnant at the age of 18? by lanegra(f): 2:24pm On Apr 18, 2007
Oh and also I don't agree that it means giving up your life, having a baby at 18. It's actually just beginning your life. But if you don't have things established by 18, like a decent job, a father who's there for the baby, etc, then you should just forget it, wait till later.

This is the problem with our society today, we treat 18 year olds like little babies, and we're surprised when they act like babies. It's time to treat them like the adults they are, and stop reffering to them as babies. They'll never grow up if we keep calling them babies, keeping them in that "baby" mentality.

18 is an age to start taking responsibility for your life, and getting yourself together. Not the ideal age to have a baby, I know, but if it happens, you'd better be prepared and stop thinking of yourself as a baby.

I think becoming pregnant at 18 is perfectly fine as long as your life is established enough--you know, you have an INCOME, and you could at least be married as well!

You need to be able to financially, emotionally, physically, and mentally be able to support the child in a structured home. If you can't do that, wait a while. undecided
Culture / Re: If Your Wife-To-Be Can't Cook by lanegra(f): 8:50am On Apr 17, 2007
I'm not Nigerian, but are most Nigerian men good cooks? Mine sure is! I have a feeling that if we got married I wouldn't have to cook a day in my life! lol tongue

I like to cook but he's already good at it and he always makes Nigerian foods, and I'm really liking the Nigerian food now, so he might as well be the cook of the house. cheesy

Culture / Re: Why Must Nigerians Abroad Marry Nigerians? by lanegra(f): 6:40pm On Apr 04, 2007
I must say, it's hard for black Americans who want to connect with their "roots" and already feel alienated by American society, but are once again alienated by other people of African descent or who are African by birthplace. I mean I'm American and my boyfriend is Nigerian--I don't see what's wrong with that. :/

I feel as if we African-Americans just don't fit in anywhere. I mean, think about it. We don't fit in with this American society that sterotypes us (and every other ethnic group), profiles us, rejects us, etc. And we African-Americans don't even fit in with other African-Americans! If you're too light, you're not right. If you're too dark, you're not right. If you're too preppy, you're not right. If you're too "gangsta"/hip-hop, you're not right. I

mean there are just so many divisions within this "African-American" community that we really don't fit in anywhere, or even have any place to "come home" to. I'm really looking forward to taking a DNA test to trace my roots back to Africa just so I can actually have a place to call home. Just so I can have a true identity.

I mean I know I sound a little "woe is me", or "woe is us", but it's true man! It's a sad case of identity theft that has happened to us African-Americans, and most of us are confused and know not where we come from, have no culture to identify with, etc. All we have are our family get togethers and our churches, our "Christianity", lol. That's how we African-Americans get together. With the religion our slavemasters gave us. I'm a Christian by the way so that's not a slam on Christianity lol.

But enough of my rambling. I just wanted to address what someone on this post said about "coming home" to your own people, and how I feel it's just not fair for black Americans who really have no "home" to go to, or anywhere where we are not alienated.
Travel / Is Nigeria A Good Place To Live? by lanegra(f): 6:17pm On Apr 04, 2007
Hello,

I am a black American woman who has fallen in love with a Nigerian man (and much love in return! grin ). He seems very much to miss his home in Nigeria, and visits at least once a year, and I think that he wants to move back there sometime in the near future, or at least live there for a while.

My question is, how is it in Nigeria? I mean, is it a decent place to live? The reason I ask this is because I would not mind moving back with him if this is what he really wants to do someday. In terms of housing, water supply, vital things like this, is it a decent place to live and raise a family?

Also, how would I be received there? I mean, you know being a black/African-American, would I "fit in"? Or what is the perception of people like me (in your opinion) in places like Nigeria or much of Africa in general (again in your own opinion)??

I'm sorry for my ignorance, but as an American, I am not taught much about Africa other than poverty and disease, etc. I mean that's all we ever hear about Africa over here, as many of you probably already know. I have yet to have seen something positive about Africa stated in the news here, or even in books. I know that poverty an disease are important, but I would also like to know the good things about Africa, and particularly Nigeria. I have not really gone into specifics with my b/f about Nigeria, but I thought I'd ask you all since I assume most of you live in nigeria or have been there, and I get to see a variety of opinions. smiley

Thank you so much!
