looooool Bin Laden is dead, but who was Bin Laden? was there a Bin Laden at all? how many times has US troops got him and let him off? The Bin Laden character was thought to have died years ago but still releasing video tapes like 2PAC after death. My thoughts are the character was created just to fight terror. |

About 993 students of the University of Ilorin have been advised to withdraw from the institution following their poor performance during the 2009/2010 academic session and failure to register for the academic session. A public notice signed by the registrar of the institution, Mrs. Olufolake Oyeyemi, said 117 students withdrew voluntarily while 65 students were expelled. The management therefore warned all students involved to submit their identity cards to the Dean of Students Affairs or be blacklisted and prevented from further interactions with the university. |
Authorities of the University of Ilorin have said that 140 students of the institution have been expelled for poor performance, the News Agency of Nigeria reports. The Registrar of the university, Mrs Olufolake Oyeyemi, made the disclosure in Ilorin on Tuesday in an interview with the NAN. She said that more than 1,000 students were also advised to withdraw from the institution for failure to have required minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average. The worst hit in the list of students advised to withdraw were students from the Faculty of Sciences where no fewer than 653 students were affected while humanities and social sciences shared the rest. Oyeyemi, who spoke through the Director of Information, Dr Mafouz Adedimeji, said the expelled students faced the institution’s disciplinary committee before they were rusticated. She said that some of the students expelled were found guilty of examination malpractices, indiscipline, and failure to register for a whole session among other offences. The registrar said that limited spaces were still available for some students in the Faculty of Medicine where some 100 level students had also been advised to withdraw from the programme. http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art201103235323379 |

Rather than being a matter for joy, the licensing of four new universities is viewed differently. Why? Despite their coming, they may not be able to address the need of those yearning for higher education. They have now brought the number of universities in the country to 117.Of the number, 45 are private universities; 36 each are founded by the states and Federal Governments. The number of federal universities became 36 from 27 when the government announced the establishment of nine universities in December. With nine federal and four private universities scheduled to begin operation in the 2011/2012 academic session, it is expected that about 6,500 more spaces would be open for more admission seekers this year. While government’s effort is commendable, the situation is still dire. An estimated one million candidates are preparing to write the UTME scheduled for June 11. Going by statistics of previous years, the 6,500 added spaces would only be scratching the surface of the problem. Is the licensing of new universities the solution? Isn’t it time for the government to consider the recommendations of some vice-chancellors and professors for increased funding for older universities so that they can expand their capacity to admit more students? |

Director-general of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier-General Maharazu Tsiga, has critcised people advocating the scrapping of the scheme, branding them enemies of progress.Tsiga, on Friday, in Minna, Niger State, while addressing some 1,635 Batch ‘A’ corps members, in continuation of his tour of NYSC formations in the country, said that the call for the scrapping of the scheme was capable of threatening the unity of the country which, he said, the scheme had fostered since it was established 37 years ago. According to him, the contribution of corps members to national development should be commended by all instead of having some people pushing for the cessation of the scheme. He argued that without the input of corps members, critical sectors like education and health would have collapsed in view of shortage of manpower. |

In a desperate bid to save himself from arrest and prosecution, former Delta State governor, James Ibori, offered to surrender a huge chunk of his stolen billions to a trust fund that could finance development projects, according to a leaked U.S. diplomatic cable made available to NEXT. The September 24, 2009 dispatch reported that Mr. Ibori, shortly before escaping to the United Arab Emirates after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission closed in on him, approached the United States embassy in Abuja for a deal that would have him give up between 20 and 50 percent of his loot in return for promises by foreign governments not to prosecute him. The former governor, the cable said, approached the embassy through a U.S. businessman and reputed lobbyist in the Washington, DC area, who estimated Mr. Ibori’s stolen wealth to be about $3billion (N45 billion). |
