Before the PDP's presidential primary election earlier this year, no one would have ever thought that Nyesom Wike could have a large influence on the shape of events in his party beyond being the governor of the oil rich Rivers state. The post primaries results have had consequences and a large part of it brings into light, Wike's unwillingness to support Alhaji Atiku Abubakar's presidential campaign project. This was largely because of Atiku's choice of Ifeayin Okowa as his running mate rather than Wike. Wike being the governor of Rivers state beyond the wealth it posseses, is also the presiding over a state that has a population of over six million people. Hence, the votes from Rivers would have consolidated Atiku's vote from the North. Delta state being a strong hold of the PDP too has a strong population strength also would be instrumental to the PDP but then, a Wike's VP candidature would have consolidated Atiku's chances. Wike's bitterness has been Atiku's biggest challenge in trying to build a united party ahead of the polls. Despite Atiku's reconciliation move, Wike has proven a tough nut to crack hence, Atiku's chances are becoming slimmer by the day. Holistically, Atiku's chances will be difficult if he doesn't put his house into order which, includes him making Wike's camp to terms. |

The situation of things in the country is getting more complex as this administration has done very bad in terms of managing the affairs of the people ideally. Firstly, there's been a rapid rise in insecurity which includes banditry, kidnapping, terrorism, incessant killings, herder-farmer clashes and armed robbery just to mention a few. More pressing and disturbing are the issues of mortality, unemployment, inflation, steady rise in poverty and a rise in the number of out of school children. These issues are part of a reason why there's rapid rise in the agitation for self governing states like IPOB and the Odudua nation. To this effect, there's a bitter sense of exclusion, tribal dominance and nepotism across the country. These issues and many more, have helped increase the chaotic situation of things in the country but particularly, over the last seven years. At this point, many have lost interest in issues that surround a possible way out for a country that is on a very large divide. The 2023 polls is another chance to remedy the situation of the country. To make things right, we must elect leaders who can to a large extent unite a country that is broken to a very delicate level and most importantly, develop ideas that will promote national development, education, health, tourism, agriculture, industrialization and the aviation sector. With the revitalization of these sectors, there would be perhaps big the greater Nigeria that we have always clamoured for. |

Since independence and the end of the civil war, there has been this issue of exclusion, mistrust, religious divide, alleged assumption of ethnic dominance, high-level corruption and a nation without a clear leadership path. Issues like this and many more have over the years, affected our collective growth and development as a people and a nation. This bitter-end feeling across many parts of the country has contributed more to the terrible state of our nation which has seen a high level of insecurity rise but particularly, since 2010, high foreign debt profile, rise in mortality, higher number of out of school children, increase in unemployment, growth in terrorism and many more. Truth be told, nothing progressive has happened in Nigeria and or to Nigerians since Olusegun Obasanjo left office on May 29, 2007. Although, there was a glimmer of hope during the soft tenure of late Musa Umar Ya'adua. Ever since, there's being a lower level of commitment to the people from the government. This has further instigated many of her citizens to build up factional groups who're agitating for a self-independent nation such as IPOB and the recently more popular Odudua republic. Clamors of this nature has not by any means helped douse the already tensed situation of the country going by the very terrible state of its economy. To make matters worse, this Buhari led administration has performed terribly in the discharge of its overall duties has the nations debts keep rising and the cost of living, becoming further unbearable. As the 2023 elections draw near, many are hopeful that this time around, things can be gotten right. Being that this administration is by far, one of the most underperforming that the country has witnessed. The bone of contention amongst the electorate remains the headache of electing the right candidate. In it's actuality, the right sense must see the next president being one who has a knack for public good and national interest. One who is fix our economic challenges that has greatly affected the common man, has a better knowledge of foreign policy and relations and most importantly, has a better strategy to combat insurgency which has plagued our nation and caused terrible effects since 2010. Thoughts are arising in relativity to the chances of the three leading candidates. And how best either of them would fit in as president. As desperate as we're for a new era and perhaps, a system that works, we must also remember that our nation's togetherness matters a lot as well. Hence, we must be ready to collectively work with the new set of leaders coming in as this is just one of the ways to bring Nigeria out of this mess. |
