SportsPortugal Vs Ghana: A Time For CAF To Speak Up by LasisiAyodeji(op): 9:13am On Nov 25, 2022
Since Africa's first appearance at the world cup, African contingents have always had a terrible experience with officiating has it has been noticable in all world cup editions since 1986. 1994, 1998, 2006, 2010, 2018, and now 2022 has shown that African teams are not appreciated at the world cup and not being seen as teams who have the potentials to win the world cup. Yesterday's game between Portugal and Ghana is another reference point as all goals from the Portuguese team are debatable on various grounds. In a clear context, were Portugal to have played against a European side and or team from South America, that penalty would have been reviewed via VAR and would not have been awarded. The second and third goal respectively are clearly prone to offside analysis. With the third goal clearly been in an offside position. With this terrible sequence of officiating against African teams, CAF the football governing body must take a stand against this injustice and insist that Africa, will now henceforth but particularly, from 2026 or 2030, send representatives if only FIFA, will guarantee that there would be a fair officiating involving African teams. As such a protest, and a guarantee from FIFA will produce two things. Firstly, a better chance will be afforded to African teams as they will produce better results. Secondly is that Africa's appearances will have more meaningful effect in subsequent world cups.
SportsIs Tinubu The Right Man To Lead Nigeria? by LasisiAyodeji(op): 4:38pm On Nov 24, 2022
The most recent success story of Lagos is more often than not, ascribed to the brilliance of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu who is seen as the Governor Emeritus of Lagos. He has been praised for identifying the brightest of minds who have crafted for Lagos, a niche that is rare to come by in a technologically backward society like Nigeria so much to the point where Lagos is always being referred to as the most developed city in Nigeria and or of Africa's top 20 economy. We cannot give all credit to Asiwaju alone but particularly, for the fact that his appointees have done incredibly well in this light as can be seen in the Babatunde Raji Fashola and Akiwunmi Ambode success stories. It is evidently clear, that Lagos, is Nigeria's hub for economic activities. While the Asiwaju has over seen much change in the infrastructure of Lagos, many are quick to assume that his technical know-how capacity will be of tremendous benefit to national development in the event that he his elected president. While such clamors have kept on for a while, there has been some rather far too disturbing acquisitions and or evidences of Asiwaju's involvement in a large drug cartel some years ago in Chicago Illinois. That being said, there's also a clear involvement of his running mate Kasim Shettima in the ongoing destructive act of the Islamic sect "Boko Haram". With that, it is clear that the credibility of both candidates are at stake as it is only imperative and for the sake of morality which, is also subject to INEC's approval. That being said, Asiwaju's visionary insight can really be instrumental to the growth and development of a nation that is on the brink of breaking up apparently, because of the divide in the nation across all ends with various parts and or tribes of the country displeased with the distribution of wealth which, in the ordinary sense, is meant for all. Asiwaju being a man that is quick and strategic with unifying steps can perhaps put together, a nation that is wide apart since the end of the civil war. But then, the question we should be asking is, can Asiwaju who put things right despite his shady past and credibility.
SportsCan Germany Turn Things Around? by LasisiAyodeji(op): 2:48pm On Nov 24, 2022
Many would have been shocked after yesterday's game between Germany, one of the favourite teams to emerge champions in Qatar and Japan, the asian underdogs. Going by the proximity of quality that the German side possesses. Football being an unpredictable sport, produced a rather shocking result yesterday as Japan emerged victorious as Spain, another tournament favorite completely dominated Costa Rica by 7 goals to Nil margin. A result which puts Germany in a tight corner as Spain and Japan are joint group leaders with 3 and a margin of 6 goals. Germany play Spain next and the only way out is a victory while they hope that Costa Rica will a least get a draw against Japan while they beat Costa Rica in the final group stage game. That is the only way that they can make it out of the group stage.
SportsWhat Hope Exactly Does Africa Have In Qatar? by LasisiAyodeji(op): 1:34pm On Nov 24, 2022
After the draws for the 2022 FIFA WORLD CUP was held a few months back, Africans had very little hope of making it beyond the group stage and perhaps, the round of 16 as her contingents got a rather tough round of draws. However, hopes we were being drawn regardless of the draws as the element of surprise in football and a good streak of preparation were been banked upon. So far, four representatives from the African continents have played and non of them is yet to score let alone, record a win in the tournament. With Ghana, the only African team yet to kick a ball and also, stand in a very tight corner as they've been seeded to play against Brazil, Switzerland and Serbia. After seeing how our teams have played without precision, the hopes of getting an African side in the knockout round is relatively low.
SportsCan France Retain Their Crown? by LasisiAyodeji(op): 8:43am On Nov 23, 2022
Coming into Qatar at the last minute, the French team suffered unexpected set backs as two key players Christopher Nkuku and Karim Benzema suffered injuries and we're ruled out of the football festival. The absence of these two caused further worries to a team that was already without Ngolo Kantè, Paul Pogba and the AC Milan keeper. Just yesterday, influential defender Lucas Hernandez tore his achilles tendon and has been ruled out for the rest of the 2022/2023 season. Despite that, the World Champions were able to record a convincing 4-1 win against the Australians, all thanks to the inspiration from Kylian Mbappè and Oliver Giroud but then, is this win the inspiration they need to push further to retain the trophy they won in Russia four years ago? Can France do with without Kantè, Benzema and Hernandez?
SportsAfter Today's Shock What's Next For Argentina In Qatar? by LasisiAyodeji(op): 3:05pm On Nov 22, 2022
After the draws for the group stage games were concluded some months ago, Argentina got what seemed an easy draw and was tipped to win all group games in Qatar. Such views, was largely held by various pundits before today's game as no one gave Saudi Arabia a chance against the South American champions. Before the game began, praises were hipped on Lionel Messi and his colleagues as it was assumed that they would show forth, the South American dominance however, the Arabians had and executed their own plans as the world stood in shock. With Argentina set to play Mexico in some days time, pre-tournament hopes are gradually beginning to fade away as the game, is a do or die game for Argentina. In the event that a victory is not recorded, Argentina stands no chance of making it out of the group regardless of the results from the other group games. An early exist from the tournament for Argentina will be a shock to heavy for passionate lovers of football but particularly, the lovers of Lionel Messi who is the leader of the Argentinian side. After today's shocking defeat, the team must map out a strategy that would see them qualify from the group and the heavy question remains, can they?
SportsCan Messi Inspire Argentina To Victory? by LasisiAyodeji(op): 11:18am On Nov 22, 2022
Lionel Messi and Argentina are being tipped as one of the major contenders for the FIFA WORLD CUP trophy and this, is as a resultant of their triumph at the Copa America tournament last year. More importantly, is that they have a plethora of gifted players at their disposal at the moment and with the insane form of Lionel Messi as a source of inspiration. Though, Argentina has had a poor record at the world cup in most recent times, with just two final appearances since 1986, Messi still playing magnificently in his prime can lead them to glory. Lautaro Martinez, Julian Alvarez, Angel Di Maria and Rodrygo De Paul are players who're in solid run of form. Having being seeded in an average group, they are expected to emerge as group winners and play meaningfully well in the knockout round. But then, can Argentina do it this time around?
SportsHow Far Can Senegal Go Without Sadio Mane? by LasisiAyodeji(op): 8:16pm On Nov 21, 2022
Few days ago, Senegalese star player Sadio Manè confirmed that he wasn't going to be a part of the Senegalese team playing in Qatar.

The sad news, drew various responses and analysis from pundits as views were contradicting on the influence of Manè on the overall performance of the team.

His unexpected injury, was seen as a morale killer few days before the country kick-started the tournament against European giant, the Netherlands.

As many pundits expressed their concerns in proximity to the team's progression from the group stage that consist of the host nation Qatar, Ecuador and the Netherlands. Having lost their opening game, many would still want to believe that Senegal stands a chance in the event that they defeat Qatar and can draw and or defeat Ecuador.

Consequently, many Africans would be happy seeing the African champions progress but then, how can they far can they go without their talisman?
SportsIs England's Opening Game A Testament Of Their Ambition? by LasisiAyodeji(op): 4:51pm On Nov 21, 2022
Going into this year's FIFA WORLD CUP holding in the middle east, England has been tipped as a major going by the proximity of their performances in the last edition of the world cup and the Euros respectively. When Gareth Southgate announced his 26 man squad list, many weren't convinced about the seriousness of the set of players he had chosen to represent the country as noticable and key players such as James Ward Prose, Fikayo Tomori and Ivan Toney didn't make the final cut and so, various pundits gave their views about the managers choice of players and most importantly, how he intends to get the best out of them in Qatar. Although, playing against a relatively weaker team, Iran, it was expected that the boys from Wembley shouldn't struggle to register a resounding victory which, they did. However, the major question remains, can these guys continue their momentum throughout the entirety of the tournament as they hope to win the trophy for the first time since 1966.
SportsCan England Do It This Time Around? by LasisiAyodeji(op): 12:14pm On Nov 21, 2022
Since 1990, the English national team has always received hype before the start of any major tournament but particularly, since the world cup in France 1998. The Euros in 2000, Korea/Japan World Cup in 2004, the Euro 2004 in Greece, the 2006 World Cup in Germany, the Euro 2008, the 2010 in South Africa, the 2012 and 2016 edition, the 2018 W/C in Russia, and the Euro 2020. They're always being seen as one of the major contenders but have all disappointed their fans in the tournament. However, in most recent times, especially since the 2018 W/C in Russia, the 3 Lions have made back to back semi final appearances and a final appearance in a major tournament since the 1966 W/C which they had won. These current crop of players have shown a bigger level of determination to win and with the form of Harry Kane and some other key players like Phil Foden, Bukayo Saka, Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice, England can perhaps do something phenomenal this time around as is the common saying, football is coming home. Today, they kickstart their campaign against the Republic of Iran and it most expected that they win.
SportsCan Belgium Hold It Up In Qatar This Time Around? by LasisiAyodeji(op): 12:32pm On Nov 19, 2022
Since 2012, the national team has consistently received praise and hype in proximity to the array of stars that the team possesses and has always been tipped to win any major tournament ever since. The Euro 2012 brought into light players who were dominant at club level but couldn't transmit the form to that of the national team. The FIFA 2014 world cup brought the same expectations and similarly, a replay of the 2012 disappointment. Pundits were quick to defend after the 2014 failure being that the players were newly emerging that there was no synergy in the pattern of play and so, they can't be compared to teams like France, Germany, Brazil and Italy that has created a serial pattern of play for donkey of years. The Euro 2016, Russia 2018 and Euro 2020 experience have been all but disappointing, with pundits not pulling their weights behind this time around. Coming into Qatar, the team has gathered a plethora of gifted players and the expectations are once again, high. The Russia 2018 experience is the farthest they've gone since the emergency of what has been described as the golden generation. Much talks have been in the air surrounding their chances of emerging winners but such talks were quickly put under speculation immediately after their 1-2 loss to the pharaohs of Egypt yesterday in a preparatory game yesterday and then, truly we've to ask the question, is Belgium truly ready this time around?

PoliticsTinubu's Drug Case: A System That Doesn't Work by LasisiAyodeji(op): 2:10pm On Nov 15, 2022
Nigeria, like most underdeveloped nations of the world, is faced with a plethora of challenges ranging from corruption to unemployment, a big number of out of school children, mother-child mortality, inflation, a high debt volume, lack of infrastructural development, a terrible system of governance, insecurity, food scarcity, poverty, high crime rate amongst others. These problems more often than not, are home grown. Home grown in the sense that, Nigerians in their large number have easily relinquished power to the hands of a small fraction of the entire population known as the "elite or ruling class". Members if the rulling class have since independence, commanded public wealth to a large extent such that the common man is left for dead and has no hope whatsoever. Such a trend as seen to prominence, many people rising to power on the backdrop of wealth creation through immoral ways such as money laundering, drug and human trafficking and most recently, terrorism which, is now being seen as a lucrative business by those in the corridors of power. To this end, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu stands to prove himself innocent as against the overwhelming series of evidence put before him by the state court in Chicago Illinois. It is pitiable, that a man with such a record can boldly run for the office of the president. In a society that has a working system, the electoral body would have disqualified the APC chieftain from running for the office until he's able to prove himself innocent before the court of law and thereafter, convince Nigerians on why he should get our votes in the 2023 polls. Sadly, because we're in a messy system where corruption and selfishness is the order of the day, very few people would have the balls to openly challenge Asiwaju to a withdrawal from the polls on the account that he has a dirty track record of drug trafficking. This was similar to the 2015 incident when this same Asiwaju asked to forget about Buhari's illiteracy record and vote for him because of his military experience since Nigeria wasn't making an headway in her fight against insurgency since 2009. It will put Nigeria on a more disgraceful global eye if Asiwaju who has a record trafficking in the US becomes Nigeria's next president. Our already damaged integrity will suffer more mockery and disassociation on the global stage and this, will be consequential in so many ways. If we're ever truly serious about revamping Nigeria through the elections next year, then an Asiwaju shouldn't be a choice.

PoliticsWike's Anger Atiku's Loss by LasisiAyodeji(op): 1:37pm On Nov 09, 2022
Prior to the presidential primaries of the PDP earlier this year, relatively nothing was known about political strength of Nyesom Wike within the party's structure. Many would not have seen him wield so much influence to the point of disrupting the Atiku's presidential campaign and the dream of becoming Nigeria's next president. Till date, Wike's shocking second place result at the primaries remains a mystery to many. However, pundits and journalist were quick to acknowledge his political prowess after the election and many went further to tip him as Atiku's most likely running mate. Hence, it was further rumoured that some elders of the party had strongly advised Atiku's team to pick Wike as his running mate but Atiku, in his wisdom and for reasons best known to him, choose Ifeayin Okowa as his running. That singular decision, has brought so much divide in the PDP which, is being engineered by Wike and his camp. Consequently, Atiku's campaign has had to suffer series of setbacks as the issues surrounding this issue unabated. Moving forward, Wike relationship with Atiku remains frosty and the solutions are apparently far from coming forth. That being said, Wike has been able to get some prominent PDP governors into his team and this is no good news for the Atiku dream. With Wike acting like a wounded lion and not willing to make reconciliation possible anytime soon, Atiku has clearly shot himself in the foot and the in-house divide is going to have a very big effect on Atiku's ambition.
SportsExciting Round Of Draws For The UEFA Champions by LasisiAyodeji(op): 2:39pm On Nov 07, 2022
Earlier this afternoon, the round of 16 draws where made for the 2022/2023 UEFA Champions and Europa league games and the event, saw the birth of some eye catching fixtures between some of the world's best club teams. To start with, Liverpool play host to defending champions Real Madrid. This particular encounter is going to get the media talking after both sides have met in two finals in the last 6 years with the Spanish team coming out top. The game will have a more personal approach from Liverpool as they hope to outdo the Spanish giant this time around. Similarly, there would be a repeat of the 2019/2020 final as PSG play host to German champions Bayern Munich. It will be recorded also that the Germans emerged champions of Europe when both sides met 2years ago. Borussia Dortmund is another top team to watch out for as they hope to ease pass English side Chelsea. The west londoners have been very far from their best under Graham Potter who seem to be out of ideas. AC Milan plays against another London team, Tottenham Hotspur. Inter Milan plays Porto as Manchester city face a familiar for RB Leipzig. These games shall be coming after the new year and they promise to produce magical moments and you can also be a part of it by predicting and winning @NaijaBet.com by clicking on the link below to register.

PoliticsIt's Time To Take Our Country Back by LasisiAyodeji(op): 12:59pm On Nov 07, 2022
Over the last four decades, Nigerians have continued to experience the most brutal form of governance that can be experienced by any developing and or underdeveloped nation in the world. Consistently over the last forty years, there's been a rise in poverty, number of out of school children, inflation, debt, unemployment, mother-child mortality, insecurity, lack of infrastructural development, poor health care services and a host of others. Most recently, the issues have even become far worse as Nigerians have become helpless at the hands of a brutal government and the consequences of having an irresponsible government. Having witnessed how terrible the Buhari led administration has performed which has led to a call for secession by various socio-cultural groups in the wake of the terrible state of the nation, one would begin to realize that Nigerians are tired and want a breath of fresh air. These agitations across various ends is driven by the need to experience a better, sustainable, more accountable and a progressive type of governance. As the 2023 presidential election draws closer one thing is certain and that is, our collective decision will make or mar us as a nation. To experience the kind of change we've consistently yearned for but particularly, in the last twelve years, we must put aside all forms of biased thoughts and support candidates that have an excellent track record of people first policies and intentional about the progress of the ordinary man.
