This year appears to be a very competitive one as so many artistes did exceptionally well in terms of groundbreaking records, international recognitions, topnotch awards and fast growing fanbaze. Artistes like Wizkid, Adekunle Gold, Simi, Ycee, Tekno, Yemi Alade, Falz and Mr Eazi have all proved to be strong contender to be crowned Nigerian Artiste of The Year. It is true that singling only one artiste from the list would be very difficult but it won’t really come as a surprise if Tekno tops the rest to clinch the titled of being tagged the biggest Nigerian artiste for year 2016. Looking at his portfolio for this year you would agree with me that the once average artiste who came into the industry as an underdog has really grown and his music has evolved making him the brightest star for the year. Tekno started the year on a good note with his hit single “Duro” released the previous year but which was still heavily trending into the new year 2016. The remix of the song also kept the flame of the song burning into 2016 and he followed it with another club charting song “Wash” and “Where“. His first single for 2016 was “Pana” and the immense love and support it got from fans and the media was massive. The song actually became the most played song on every radio stations and it became a national anthem on the street. Pana was able to knockoff every other songs off major music charts across the country and remained the number song for many weeks. His recent single “Diana” has a slow start but it’s currently picking up as the song is gradually becoming a hit like we anticipated. To crown up his successfull year he was nominated for various awards. He won Best New Act at this years MTV MAMA and he also got a nomination slot at this years Headies for Next Rated Artiste category. The Pana crooner surprised us just when we thought we’ve seen all he has to offer for the year, he announced his signing to Sony Music making him the latest artiste signed by the award winning music management company. Offcourse I don’t expect everyone to agree with me on whether Tekno is the biggest Nigerian artiste for the year when the likes of Wizkid and Falz are there but from his achievement he stands on thesame pedastal with this other super talented artistes who have made 2016 a very interesting one for us. Is Tekno the biggest Nigerian artistes for the this year? Share your thoughts and give reasons why you think he is or he’s not the biggest Nigerian artiste for this year.

Presumptive U.S presidential Republican nominee Donald Trump beat rival Hilary Clinton by a small margin in a new national poll for registered voters conducted by Fox News. Donald Trump held a slight 45% to 42% lead over Hillary Clinton and even though the margin is little, it goes to show the growing support for Donald Trump’s candidacy. The poll result, released on Wednesday night shows an improvement for the billionaire businessman from a Fox national poll in April showing Clinton on top, 48% to 41%. In the poll, 83% of Democrats say they support Clinton, and 82% of Republicans say they support Trump. More African- Americans and Hispanics voted for Clinton while more white voters voted for Trump. Republicans, however, express more enthusiasm about the election, with 74% saying they are extremely or very interested in the election, compared to 66% of Democrats who say the same. Trump has more double figures from male voters, while Hilary achieves the same quota for female voters while majority of voters feel both front-runners lack strong mor*l values and will say anything to get elected. – Nollywood star Genevieve Nnaji fails to make nominees list for the AMAA 2016 – The actress who made her production debut in 2015 with Road To Yesterday won for Best West African Movie at the AMVCA 2016 – Against the backdrop of this and recent successes of the movie, many wonder why she failed to grab any nomination at the AMAA 2016 – In an exclusive chat with NAIJ.com, AMAA explained that the actress didn’t adhere to set out rules hence her exclusion from the nominees list Genevieve Nnaji is a powerhouse as far as Nollywood and Nigerian entertainment is concerned and there are many testaments to this. First, there are international recognition from major media outfits (CNN inclusive) and then there are corporate brand affiliations which have seen her enjoy considerable financial rewards among other things. Lastly, her acting career which was previously simmering towards something of legendary status recorded several more points on the score sheets with the release of her production debut Road To Yesterday in 2015. It was a major point in the life of the 37-year-old and when NAIJ.com met up with her in Lagos for a quick chat on the epoch-making project involving British Nigerian actor and model Oris Erhuero, she said it was a challenging experience. Genevieve Nnaji looks sultry in photo shoot. Credit: Instagram She explained in clearer words saying:“I was wearing too many hats [during the course of acting, the filming and production of Road To Yesterday] and I had to be strong all the way.” The movie eventually dropped in Lagos on November 13, 2015 with a premiere at the Genesis Deluxe Cinema and enjoyed several other premieres across the nation just as it was warmly received by critics. READ ALSO: Five reasons Genevieve’s bathroom scene is a brilliant PR stunt Against this background, it comes as a bit of a shocker that the Ije actress didn’t get any nomination for the 2016 Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA). The nominees list dropped on Monday, May 16, 2016 and to the surprise of many she didn’t get any nomination in several categories she ordinarily fits into. So we made efforts to reach AMAA representatives as we sought to get to the root of the matter and the response from them was pretty much surprising. According to insiders, the widely-famed actress failed to comply with the registration processes at AMAA which led the organizers to exclude her 2015 romance-themed movie Road To Yesterday from all the categories it could have been nominated in. A representative at AMAA spoke to us on condition of anonymity explaining that they’d reached the actress a number of times but she wasn’t forth coming with required details on her movie. The 2016 edition of the AMAA is billed to hold on Saturday, June 11, 2016 in Port Harcourt. He spoke further: READ ALSO: 20 single ladies running Nigerian entertainment “You see, there are several stages to AMAA. We often reach out to potential nominees asking them to fill out forms, submit and comply with a few other steps which aid our selection processes among other things. “Genevieve’s non-adherence to our instructions and failure to submit the required responses to AMAA even after she was reached several times led to her exclusion from the nominees list. “It’s simple. There couldn’t have been a consideration for her role in the movie Road To Yesterday because she didn’t comply with basic instructions.” Given this, NAIJ.com editor Henry Igwe asked how all of this played out and how many times the actress was contacted because there’s every possibility she probably missed the requests sent to her. But our source replied saying they contacted the movie star several times for almost three weeks, all to no avail. He said:“All we wanted was for her team to send in details about the movie, the video link, the DVD preview copy of the movie Road To Yesterday and a few other details but they never responded. They eventually did after the nominees list came out.” What exactly was their response when they got back to you, what was their tone like? AMAA representative:“Oh they responded just fine, the lady from her camp, her manager, I think Chinny Onwugbenu who co-produced the film, was like ‘Hi, can we still do this? Can we still send in the reply cuz we just got your mail on AMAA’ and all that. “But it was already too late. At AMAA, we keep everything professional and we have certain standards that must be adhered to. READ ALSO: Here’s what Seyi Shay said about her recent blunders and other things “Her team responded only yesterday [Monday, May 16] and it was already late which is why Genevieve Nnaji didn’t make the AMAA 2016 nominations. “AMAA is very reputable and we’ve built an image across Africa. Over the years, we’ve become something like the Oscars of Africa and we try to maintain that standard. “With [Genevieve’s] level of professionalism, we’d have thought she’d adhere to the rules but she didn’t.” Efforts by NAIJ.com to reach Genevieve Nnaji’s camp proved abortive as calls were unanswered and messages unreplied. We shall keep you updated as details unfold in this light from Genevieve’s camp. The AMAA is one of the continent’s most prestigious awards famed for recognizing outstanding talents in acting and movie production. SEE ALSO: EXCLUSIVE: Road To Yesterday Is An Introduction Of Who I Am – Genevieve The first edition held in 2005 and the awards has rewarded loads of movie stars over the years. Now in its 12thyear, the 2016 edition of the AMAA is billed to hold on Saturday, June 11, 2016 in Port Harcourt. Watch Genevieve Nnaji speak to NAIJ.com exclusively on the movie Road To Yesterday:

A young woman in Ojokoro, Ijaiye, at the outskirts of Lagos is said to have been on her way back from her 'witch' meeting when she was struck by a 'powerful' force. When she landed on the ground in her witch bird form, the combined impact of hitting the ground and daylight reportedly caused her to transform into a human being. According to Moji Delano's blog, the incident which was reported by one of its readers happened around 5:30-6am yesterday morning. The source narrated what he saw; “I was driving home this morning along Agbado-Ijaiye road when I suddenly heard people screaming in Yoruba 'the bird has turned into a woman, the bird has transformed into a human being.' I parked some meters away and walk towards the scene-a gutter opposite LADO filling station-where an angry crowd was slowing gathering. "Two eye witnesses present in the crowd who raised alarm said they were passing by when a bird suddenly fell into the gutter and then suddenly transformed into a young woman." Continuing, he said: "At some point a man joins the woman in the gutter whispering into her ears. The crowd started asking questions as to his relationship with the alleged bird-Lady but the guy quickly disassociated himself from her. "Nobody knows who the guy is but he appears to be someone who understands the supernatural and was trying to communicate with her because the crowd didn’t understand the kind of Yoruba language she was speaking. However when he saw the the crowd was getting irate, he disassociated himself from the lady. “The woman spoke in a Yoruba dialect people present didn’t understand well. But what some people tried to make out from what she told them was that she was instructed to go and get something during a witchcraft meeting and she complained that it was dangerous because it was almost morning. However she said they insisted and while flying, a powerful force struck her and she found herself in the gutter. "The eyewitness also said that at about time he decided to leave the scene, the angry mob had started hitting her and beating her with sticks and he tried to dissuade the crowd from doing so but they wouldn’t listen. "However, a call was made to the nearest police station which was supposedly less than a 1 kilometer away but the Police didn’t show up, at least as at the time the source left the scene."

The University of Ilorin says no fewer than 108 fresh students of the institution were expelled for gaining admission through dubious means. The institution’s Vice Chancellor,Professor AbdulGaniyu Ambali, disclosed this on Monday in Ilorin while exchanging views with the Commissioner of Police in Kwara,Sam Okaula, who visited him. Ambali told the commissioner that due to stable academic calendar and culture of excellence prevalent in the university, the pressure to secure admission into the institution was high. “This resulted in some candidates seeking illegal and unauthorised ways to gain admission into the university,” he said. Ambali assured the commissioner of the university’s continuous cooperation by readily offering the police useful information required in the course of their work. “We will volunteer any information you need to succeed,” the vice chancellor said. He reiterated the university’s stance on zero tolerance for cultism and indecent dressing, stressing that these had helped to maintain sanity on the campus. Ambali also gave an assurance that eligible personnel of the Force interested in higher education could take advantage of the opportunity provided by the university’s Centre for Peace and Strategic Studies. Earlier, Okaula said the university was highly regarded as one of the best universities in Africa because of its stable academic calendar. Okaula also said that security was a collective responsibility of every member of a community, adding that the university had demonstrated zero tolerance for cultism. He said that no student of the institution was among the 118 recently arrested for cult-related activities. The commissioner commended the Security Unit of the university for its focus, discipline and professionalism, assuring the vice-chancellor of the continuous support of the police. Ukaula said the police had adopted scientific investigation method, noting that some officers would require more education in that regard. He pleaded with Ambali to assist such personnel in securing admission to improve their capacity to be able to better deal with crime in the country.

There was a stampede in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, Wednesday as a teacher at Saint Lukes Grammar School, Molete, Nasiru Lukuman, slumped while teaching in the classroom. Surprisingly, vice-principal of the same school, Emmanuel Olajide, reportedly died last week as a result of hunger apparently due to non-payment of four months salary by the state government. It was gathered that Lukman (37), who teaches Accounting, sustained an injury on his head and was quickly taken to Molete Health Care Centre following profuse bleeding for some minutes after which he became unconscious. His wife, Mrs Modupe Nasiru, wept uncontrollably and pleaded with the state government to assist Lukman by moving him to a standard hospital for adequate treatment. “My husband has been vomiting blood since morning when he collapsed and had become unconscious since then. There is no money to take him to a standard hospital for proper medical attention for now, and we don’t have anybody to run to for assistance. “Our two children are even staying with my mother because we could not afford taking care of them as my husband’s salaries have not been paid. I’m appealing to well-meaning people to assist us and save the life of my husband.” Meanwhile, a member of the State Assembly representing Ibadan South East, Ademola Akeem Ige, visited the teacher in the hospital and rendered financial assistance to him, though he (the teacher) is still reportedly receiving treatment.
