Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have called it quits less just 8-months after tying the knot at a private ceremony back in December 23, 2018 at their home in Franklin, Tennessee.

Miley's publicist released the statement below last night confirming the split.

“Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time. Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers.

They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy” a rep for Cyrus tells PEOPLE in a statement.

Rumors of a split between Cyrus, 26, and Hemsworth, 29, began on Friday as Miley was spotted kissing Brody Jenner's ex-wife Kaitlynn Carter during a girls' getaway to Lake Como, Italy.

Brody and Kaitlyn separated last week after just a year of marriage.

Photos of Miley and Kaitlyn making out caught many by surprise. Even though Miley has made it clear in the past that she likes women, The Hills star, Kaitlyn, wasn't known as a bisexual woman.

Before confirming her split from Liam, Miley yesterday posted a photo of herself on Instagram in which she was not wearing her wedding ring; “Mute me if you don’t want SPAMMED,” she captioned the post.

The singer, who identifies as pansexual, revealed in a candid interview last month that she viewed her marriage to Liam as 'confusing, complex and modern', insisting that she was still 'very sexually attracted to women' and that she doesn't 'fit into a stereotypical wife role'.

The pair first met in 2009 while filming, The Last Song. They began dating shortly after and made their red carpet debut as a couple in 2010. They have dated on and off since 2010, and were initially engaged in June 2012 before calling it off in September 2013, they reconciled in 2016 and married in December 2018.

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Kogi State chapter on Thursday August 8th, suspended the Deputy Governor of the state, Simon Achuba over alleged anti-party activities before, during and after the 2019 general elections.



According to the APC, the suspension was based on some actions the Deputy Governor took that constituted embarrassment to APC family in Kogi State. The Kogi APC chairman, Abdullahi Bello, said the party received several petitions from stakeholders in Iyano ward, Ibaji Local Government Area, where the Deputy Governor hails from.



Bello stated that the activities of Achuba during the last elections was against the APC candidates, while he (Achuba) held the exalted position of the Deputy Governor of the state. He added that the report of the disciplinary committee constituted by the Iyano ward and Ibaji local government APC, to probe the crises in the area, allegedly indicted the deputy governor, and also recommended for his suspension to be followed by expulsion, if he did not show any remorse.



He stated that the state Working Committee of the APC, having deliberated on the recommendations of the disciplinary committee of APC Iyano ward and Ibaji local government branch of the party, resolved and upheld Elder Simon Achuba’s suspension till he responds to the letter that the party would serve him.

“As we are all aware, the All Progressives Congress does not condone acts of indiscipline, indiscretion and anti-party activities from any party member, no matter how highly placed.

His series of reckless, damaging and unsubstantiated allegations against government of Kogi state was an action that constitute a serious violation of Article 21A(ii), (v) and (vii) of the APC constitution, amount, amounting to acts of disloyalty and embarrassment to the party,” Bello said.

He added that the decision of the state working committee would be communicated to the APC National Working Committee in due course.

Management of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi have shut down the institution over the death of four students that occurred at the late hours of Tuesday.

ATBU management confirmed that four of its students died following the collapse of a bridge in the Gubi campus of the university due to heavy downpour that lasted several hours across the state.

Aside the four deceased students, seven students are reportedly injured, management also stated.

The vice chancellor Prof Muhammad Abdullazeez, addressed a briefing yesterday. Prof Abdullazeez was accompanied by some top management staff of the institution.

He said four of the students were confirmed dead immediately with seven others seriously injured.

Abdullazeez told The Nation that deceased comprised three males and one female, with the injured currently receiving treatment at the university’s medical centre.

The VC said management had immediately closed down the school in honour of the deceased, and equally commenced full details of the incident.

“I regret to announce the death of four of our students. The unfortunate incident that led to the demise of the students occurred on Monday night at the Gubi Campus of the university,” said Prof Abdullazeez.

“While full details of the occurrence are being awaited, the university’s Senate, at an emergency meeting Tuesday morning, has decided to close the university in honour of the students. We closed down the school because we are mourning. The reopening date has been fixed for Tuesday, August 19th.”

“For now, we learnt that while the students were trying to return to their hostel in the midst of the rain last night, bridge connecting their reading area and their hostel collapsed, leaving four of our students drowned.”

He said rescue operations are ongoing to recover bodies of those still missing.

As early as 7am, armed policemen, backed by soldiers blocked the National Stadium, Surulere in Lagos, where the #RevolutionNow protest was expected to take off.



According to eye witness reports, those who were unfazed by police presence and confronted the officers were teargassed. One person was allegedly shot. And some arrests were also made, with some protesters packed inside a Black Maria.

The organisers of the protest had asked Nigerians to gather at the stadium by 8am today while the Abuja Convergence will be at Unity Fountain by 10am, according to Senami Kojah, who has been issuing press releases on behalf of the organisers.

The Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, in Osun State has been thrown to mourning following the death of a student identified as Opeyemi Grace Dara.

The deceased who was in the Department of English and Literature was said to have committed suicide after a dose of lethal substance popularly known as snipper.

Although the details of the incident were still sketchy, our correspondent learnt that she took her life following the poor academic performance.

But the authorities of the institution confirmed that the deceased committed suicide due to depression occasioned by poor academic records.

A copy of her academic records obtained from her page on the school portal indicated that she had many outstanding courses.

She was said to be having five outstanding courses and 12 Special Electives.

A source said, “A student in the Department of English and Literature at OAU in Ile-Ife, Opeyemi Grace Dara, whose set finished their final year exams just last semester has committed suicide through the consumption of the notorious snipper on Friday. She was in the last graduating set; however, she had some outstanding courses. The department in mourning mood.”

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of OAU, Segun Olanrewaju, confirmed the incident to our correspondent and promised that the institution would investigate the incident and make its findings public.

He also warned students against taking their lives because of poor academic performance.
