According to a report by the Economic Intelligence Unit today, Lagos State has been ranked the second cheapest city in the world for expatriates.

Lagos which fell 16 places to 132nd place on the world priciest cities index joins Kazakhstan’s Almaty at the bottom. The report says, “Although Nigeria has been attracting significant interest and investment in recent years, the fall in global oil prices has driven a collapse in the value of the Nigerian naira, which pushed down relative pricing, despite strong local inflation. The relative cost of living in Lagos has more than halved since 2008, which might signal renewed interest from foreign investors, with price levels so low by international standards“.

The Worldwide Cost of Living 2017 report saw Asian cities take five of the top ten spots, thanks to a sustained recovery in the strength of the Japanese yen that propelled Tokyo and Osaka back into the top ten, alongside Singapore and Seoul.

Singapore was ranked the most expensive city in the world for expatriates for the fourth consecutive year. Western Europe accounted for a further four cities, with stalwarts Zurich and Geneva in third and seventh position respectively. Paris, the only Eurozone city, came in eighth position and the Danish capital Copenhagen, which pegs its currency to the Euro, rounded off the top ten.

New York was the lone North American representative, falling to ninth position owing to a slight weakening of the U.S. dollar, which also affected the position of other US cities. In spite of topping the ranking, “Singapore still offers relative value in some categories, especially compared with its regional peers,” the report said.

Forty seven days after of his death, the civil servant, Salami Adekunle, who was struck to death by lightning during a downpour in Oro, Kwara, has just been given a proper burial, according to a new report by Abubakr Imam Ali-Agan. Yoruba traditional worshippers reportedly performed ritual concoctions on the deceased believing that his death was not natural as the corpse was rejected to be buried at the Muslim cemetery. .

Ahmad Kunle Abdusalam died as a result of lightening 47 days ago. Yoruba traditional worshippers performed ritual concoctions on him believing that his death was not natural. He was taken to the Muslim Cemetery to be buried after his body was rubbed with the blood of pigs and dogs

This is not acceptable in Islam we explained. A member of his family then instructed that they should take him to another cemetery where he was buried according to the traditionalists. However the deceased died as a Muslim. He must be buried according to the dictate of Islam, we insisted.

At a point we warned to stop further actions by the ritualists through some munafiqun. We were warned that if we attempt the exhumation we shall die in the process. Oh what a good way to die, we exclaimed.

We reported the matter to the authorities concerned in the state. We got permission to exhume his body. At the appointed date we were not shown the grave by his family members because they were told they will die instantly . So we opted for the prayer in absentia. Salatul gayb. Fortunately for this brother, some concerned brothers in Saudi Arabia who were following the event also conducted the prayer on him..

Still not satisfied we launched series of campaign for his exhumation. We got police permit for the exercise. To Allah be the credit for after 47 days we are able to locate his grave and we found his body intact, he was exhumed and buried according to the Islamic rites at the Muslim Cemetery Ilorin. The Prayer was witnessed by thousands of Muslims due to special radio announcement. The Prayer was led by the Chief Imam of the University of Ilorin, Prof. A.G.À.S Oladosu. Former President Obasanjo led a delegation of Brenthurst Foundation to visit Governor Ugwuanyi at the Government House, Enugu.

Chief Olusegun Obasanjo expressed delight with the commitment being displayed by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State towards the socio-economic development of the South East region, saying that the governor has “surprised him”.

Chief Obasanjo, recalled that during the South East Security and Economic Summit in Enugu, last December, Gov. Ugwuanyi made a wonderful planning that saw to the success of the programme.

An All Progressives Congress group which goes under the banner of Southern Mandate of Nigeria (SMN), sai Nigerians will stone them at campaign grounds, if President Muhammadu Buhari is presented as their presidential candidate.

National Coordinator of the group, Comrade Francis Ikonomwan, in a statement made available to journalists in Benin, Edo State, described the call b members of Buhari Support Group on President Mohammadu Buhari to contes the 2019 election, as political sycophancy.
He described members of the Buhari Support Group as a “bunch of people who do not mean well for our Party, AP and Nigerians at large, but rather, they represent their selfish interest.”
Ikonomwan who noted that President Buhari has failed to deliver on his campaign promises and so Nigerians can no longer entrust him with the leadership of the country, urged him to ignore such calls, adding that it is not i the interest of the nation.

“We are saddened that these people are not sensitive to the plight of Nigerians. The fact remains that Nigerians are not happy with President Muhammadu Buhari and our party, the APC.
“President Muhammadu Buhari has not been able to deliver on his campaign promises. What has this administration to campaign with in every sector of the economy or is it the fight against corruption that has been swept under the carpet?
“Even the political leaders and the people who fought for his emergence a President today have been abandoned and are all lamenting today.

“There is a total disconnect between the people and the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration. Poverty and Hunger is now the order of the day in Nigeria as we speak. It is getting obvious by the day that Nigerians can no longer trust President Muhammadu Buhari with the leadership of this country.
“If APC fields Muhammadu Buhari as its presidential candidate in 2019, we are afraid that Nigerians may stone us at campaign grounds. We may just end up giving the opposition party the presidency in 2019 on a platter of gold.

“However, we wish to call on President Muhammadu Buhari to ignore such call as it is not in the interest of Nigerians.
President Muhammadu Buhari’s priority now should be how to use the remainin part of his administration to deliver on our campaign promises and do the needful by not indicating interest to contest in 2019,” the statement said.
