Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha, said that the time has come for his son-in-law, Mr. Uche Nwosu, to be the next governor of Imo state.
Okorocha in a release to newsmen in Owerri, through his Chief Press Secretary, CPS, Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo, was apparently reacting to a statement credited to a group called Restoration Coalition of APC, which vowed to stop the endorsement of his son-in-law, Nwosu, to be the next governor of the state.
The governor insisted the group was only envy of his son-in-law.
Okorocha defended his support for his son-in-law that, “Endorsement is a Public Statement or action showing support of something or somebody. It has been part of our democracy. “And it is surprising that some people have been loosing sleep over the several endorsements the young Uche Nwosu has been getting. The difference is that his own endorsement is like a revolution, and almost all the other aspirants are feeling threatened.”
The release viewed it as an attempt “To deceive the weary and indeed the general public. They should have gone ahead to also endorse their own candidate.
“What is their headache. Is Governor Okorocha the only governor who has indicated interest in one of the members of his Political family to succeed him.
“They should follow events in other States. And also do their political research. Endorsement has been there. And they should ask their Candidate to withdraw if he is not popular to the extent of attracting people to endorse him. Uche Nwosu is the man. This is his time and nobody should envy him.”
Adding that, “They are habitual Coordinators of guber aspirants. They cannot Contest election. Some of them were brought into Politics by Governor Okorocha. And today, they have become Coordinators, and none of them had won his booth in the past elections.
“They have no electoral value to add to any party or aspirant. They are Political Consumers and not Political Producers. People should ignore them.”
Toni Iwobi, who has just been elected to the Italian Senate, has hit back at Mario Balotelli, after the Nice striker criticised him for representing a political party renowned for causing racial controversy.
Iwobi, who was born in Nigeria but has lived in Italy since the 1970s, became the first black Senator to be elected after the Lega party, led by Matteo Salvini, earned the majority of votes in Spirano.
Balotelli posted a message on his Instagram story that said: [quote]“Maybe I’m blind or maybe they haven’t told him yet that he’s black – what a disgrace!”
When asked about Balotelli’s message during an interview on Radio Capital, Iwobi replied:
“I’d rather just ignore him. I’m not interested in what he writes. I have to deal with enough controversy. I just want to think about my territory and the new role I’ve been elected to.
“He’s a great footballer and he will remain one, but I hope he sticks to his job, considering that’s what he is good at.”
Two persons have been reported killed in Esa Oke, in the Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State on Thursday after two rival cult groups, Aloe and Aye confraternities clashed.
It was gathered that the melee started after a dispute between two members of the rival groups over a woman.
A female student of the Osun State College of Technology told newsmen that some members of the Alora group had attacked the Aye cult where they were making merry.
The reprisal attack reportedly led to the death of two person, just as other cult members reportedly sustained varying degrees of injury.
She said, “The fight was caused by a woman. Members of the Alora cult were, however, the aggressors; the Aye boys only fought back. Two students died and their corpses were taken to the mortuary of a hospital in Ilesa.”
The Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Mr. Babawale Afolabi, said one person was killed, while the other was seriously injured.
He said trouble started when a cult group was initiating members of its new executive on Wednesday.
Afolabi noted that the heavy presence of security operatives in the town prevented the clash from escalating.

Reminisce seems to have ported to the pop genre when he sang Ponmile. Naeto C‘s star has stopped shining. The young guys don’t really have anything to offer. Wale Turner has been impressive but he will need to do more to further broaden his career. Dremo has been disappointing in the last few months. He’s an “Ichaba” in the making. Lil Kesh just like Olamide has opted to remain local and has been dropping low grade songs. Oooh, what about Ice Prince, the heir to M.I‘s throne? We can’t really say if it is the village people following Ice Prince or misfortune of his ex-girlfriend still reeking on him, but he’s currently languishing in the relegation zone together with Jesse Jagz.
We have hundreds of rap artistes in Nigeria Music Industry, we can’t even ignore the ones in the street who slug it out daily in rap battles. The prominent ones in the music Industry now do more of singing than rapping.
Vector with Adura, Reminisce with Ponmile are notable examples. OlaDips, Davolee and CDQ still rap. But theirs are the local ones. Limerick and Otedola crooner, Dice Ailes are few exceptions of rappers who do it decently and are also easily understandable.

Mark in a goodwill message to former President Obasanjo described him as an uncommon patriot who put the interest of the nation first in all he did
Mark said that Obasanjo is the father of modern day Nigeria who has stood firm against all odds to keep the nation one. Many commuters plying the Ikorodu Road, Lagos State, were on Monday stranded after residents protesting against the death of a pupil blocked the road. The protesters made a bonfire and reportedly prevented ambulances which came to pick the corpse from taking him as they insisted on the presence of the victim’s parents.
BRT vehicles on the Ikorodu Road corridor temporarily suspended operations to avert running into the protesters, who mounted the blockade on the Idiroko end of the road where the accident occurred. PUNCH Metro gathered that the victim, Ezekiel Daniel, a pupil of Cherubim and Seraphim School, Idiroko, was about to cross the road with other pupils when he was hit by the BRT vehicle. The driver was reported to have run over the boy. A witness, Bisi Oladapo, told one of our correspondents that the incident happened around 8am. She said, “The boy was in primary six. The school has a crossing guard and the man had stopped the traffic for a set of pupils. As soon as the pupils passed, the boy wanted to cross as well when he was hit by the BRT vehicle. “Only his leg was hit the first time. But as he struggled to stand up, the back tyres of the bus smashed his skull. He died on the spot.” Another resident, Omolade Ibidapo, said sympathisers and other residents made a bonfire and blocked the road. She noted that two ambulances which attempted to take the corpse were prevented by the protesters. “The BRT bus sped off. They couldn’t catch the driver and they could not vandalise any BRT vehicle. Immediately the accident happened, BRT drivers passed the information to one another and they started turning back at Agric bus stop. “Two ambulances were prevented from taking the corpse because people wanted his parents to be around. They couldn’t locate them on time and that was why the body was on the ground for some hours,” she added. Another resident, Johnson Obiyemi, criticised the state government for not building a pedestrian bridge at the junction. “The one they built at Ogolonto is at the BRT bus stop, which is far from the school; people are not even using it. Where they are supposed to build a pedestrian bridge, they constructed a billboard advertising the achievements of the governor. It was tragic that the boy was crushed under that billboard,” he added. A former chairman of the parents’ forum of the school, Muyiwa Oyetuga, said two children from the same family died at the spot some years ago. Oyetuga, who addressed teachers at the school in an emotion-laden voice, lamented that efforts to make the government build a pedestrian bridge at the spot had been abortive. He said, “About six to seven years ago, we had a similar incident there. Two children of the same parents who wanted to cross the road were killed. I know where those children were buried and the IPO in charge of that case. When that incident happened, some people played some pranks and the matter died down. If it were to be the children of politicians, would they allow it to continue? “When this road was constructed, I asked how they would help us safeguard the children who cross the road. They gave us a crossing guard. But we have over 2,000 pupils in the school and sometimes, motorists don’t have regards for the crossing guard. I don’t have children in this school again, but I am pained by this boy’s death.” The headmistress was said to be unavailable for comment. A teacher, who did not identify herself, said the school was helpless, adding that they had written letters to the state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, without a response. “Even as teachers, we cannot leave until all the children have gone home. The government promised to build a bridge, but they didn’t do anything. We have written many letters without any response. It is the governor that can help, not the teachers,” she said. One of our correspondents observed that calm had been restored to the area as military officers attached to 81 Brigade stopped vehicles to allow schoolchildren to cross the road. The Head of Operations, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Lanre Adeyemi, said preliminary investigation revealed that the BRT driver ignored the stop signal of the crossing guard when the accident happened.
“There was a rampage by the residents and some hoodlums hijacked the protest. It was even beyond the police until the military intervened. People have already taken the tag of the vehicle and we believe the police will do the rest of the job,” he added.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chike Oti, confirmed the incident. He said, “It was a hit-and-run that occasioned a riot. The police came in and restored calm. We are still expecting the driver of the bus to report himself to the nearest police station for necessary action.”
The Chief Security Officer, Primero Transport Services Limited, which is managing the BRT corridor, Mr. Cletus Okodolor, could not be reached for comment as of the time of filing this report.
The Head, Media and Communications, Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, Mr. Kolawole Ojelabi, said the government agency was aware of the incident, but was awaiting a formal report from Primero.
In a related development, two pupils of Our Lady of Fatima Nursery and Primary School, Kuru Jenta, in the Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, were on Monday confirmed dead in an auto crash.
While 76 injured persons were rushed to the Plateau State Specialist Hospital in Jos, 18 others were taken to Ola Hospital, a private medical facility in the state. The accident was said to have jolted the Jos community, including Governor Simon Lalong, who was on a tour of projects that would be inaugurated by President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday.
Lalong was said to have cut short his inspection of the projects and rushed to the state hospital to sympathise with the victims of the accident. While describing the accident as unfortunate, the governor reportedly promised to settle the medical bills of the victims.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the accident occurred around 7am when the vehicle veered off the road, somersaulted and landed on a pavement. The Proprietress of the school, Rev. Sr. Florence Golan, confirmed the incident in a chat with one of our correspondents at the specialist hospital.
She said, “The pupils are from crèche, play class, nursery and primary 1-4; we have a bus that picks them from their various locations to school. This (Monday) morning, it picked them up as usual. I was not with them, but I was told that they were involved in an accident.
“We have not confirmed the number of deaths yet, but they are not more than two. Those who survived the accident sustained major injuries, but they are in stable conditions. The nurses are attending to them.”
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has congratulated former President Olusegun Obasanjo as he celebrates his 81st birthday.
The political party in a statement released on Sunday described Obasanjo as an outstanding nationalist; a courageous and dedicated leader, who has made immeasurable, sacrifices towards the development, stability and growth of the nation.
The former president will clock 81 on Monday, March 5. The party in the statement which was signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said it remains proud of Obasanjo.
Obasanjo according to the PDP has excelled as an international figure and made outstanding contributions toward global peace and development, particularly, in the African sub-region.
“Indeed, the PDP intensely celebrates former President Obasanjo who stands tall as one of the best performed Nigerian Presidents chiefly because his administration founded and anchored its policies and programmes on PDP’s people-based manifesto and ideology,” the statement read in part.
The PDP also commends Obasanjo for his continued engagement on national issues, particularly his disposition against poor governance, corruption, and bloodletting. The party also claimed that it is more than prepared to salvage Nigeria in the task of returning back to governance come 2019.

A man has allegedly committed suicide after President Buhari refused to sign the Peace Corps Nigeria (PCN) Bill as passed by the National Assembly. This statement is attributed to a presidential aspirant of the National Conscience Party, NCP, Dr Thomas Wilson lkubese and he has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to revisit the bill.
“If however President Buhari fails to so do, I urge members of the National Assembly to recall the bill, muster two-thirds of the membership and pass it into law”, Ikubese said in Akure.
“The hope of these youths and their many dependents was dashed when President Buhari withheld assent to the bill on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, citing security and financial concerns”, he said. According to him, a member of the Peace Corps, one Mr Gambo Timothy Dogo, in Nappe, Dukku Local Govt Area of Gombe State, reportedly committed suicide after being disappointed that the President had turned down the PCN Establishment Bill.
“Nigeria has a population of about 186 million people and a police population of about 370, 000”, he said. “Of the 370, 000, 80% is assigned to private citizens, politicians, businessmen and private enterprises, leaving only 20% for core police duties of peace and security. “With the current Nigerian situation of 74,000 police officers to a population of 186 million people, we run on a ratio of 1:2,514. This means that instead of a police officer to a population of 400 people, we have one police officer to 2,514 citizens, leaving us six times under-policed”.
On the President’s fear of additional financial burden, lkubese said, “The funds needed to run the PCN do not have to come from the purse of the Federal Government.
“Persons who require the services of these officers will pay specified sums to a designated account from which their salaries will be drawn monthly, thus taking the financial burden off govt”.
A Ghanaian teacher who went viral after sharing photos of himself drawing MS Word software onto a blackboard during a class has caught the attention of the tech giant, Microsoft. The young teacher, Owura Kwadwo Hottish's photos were widely shared on Facebook, Twitter, blogs, with many praising his dedication.
His dedication impressed Microsoft staff, Rebecca Enonchong, who tweeted the company will equip Kwadwo with a device to help him during his lessons. Kwadwo posted the photos on his Facebook page on February 15, to share what it was like to teach computer lessons without actually having a computer.
"Teaching of ICT in Ghana's school is very funny. ICT on the board paa. I love ma students so have to do wat will make them understand Wat am teaching. #committedteacher #ICTontheboard #Teacherkwadwo" he wrote.
According to Quartz, Kwadwo said the school had not had a computer since 201, despite the requirement for students to pass am information and technology (ICT) exam at part of their progression to high school.
A Reverend Father, along with other culprits, has been arrested for stealing an 18-month-old baby in Osogbo, Osun state.
The child was kidnapped from his mother and sold to an orphanage. The priest, Rev. Father Chike Ejiofor, who heads Our Lady of Fatima parish in Woliwo, Onitsha, Anambra State, is believed to have unknowingly become an accomplice after a parishioner approached him that she wanted to adopt a child and he referred her to the orphanage the baby was sold to and even helped her through the process.
Among those arrested was 28-year-old Joy Esu. According to Punch, Joy approached the mother of 18-month-old Abdullahi Azeez at her shop in Osogbo and pretended that she wanted to learn tailoring so the mother accepted. Two days later, when the mother left her alone with the baby to go to the market, Joy ran off with the child who she then gave to her boyfriend Sidney Onwuka.
Onwuka, who has sold at least 6 children stolen by Joy, then sold baby Abdullahi to one Maxwell Agu, who claimed to be running a government registered orphanage at Orlu, Imo State. Onwuka said he had sold six babies to the operator of the orphanage, including his own child, adding that the operator paid him N200,000 for his child. Joy alleged Onwuka used charms to manipulate her into doing whatever he wants because she has never been able to refuse him when he sends her to commit a crime, even though he never pays her a kobo for it. She added that she even sold her daughter to him and he didn't pay her for it.
Now, this is where the priest comes in. A widowed parishioner named Elizabeth, who has 5 grown daughters but wants a male child, met the priest and told him of her intention to adopt a son. The priest contacted the operator of the orphanage and baby Abdullah was brought to the parish by Mr Agu and Joy Esu. Ms Elizabeth gave the priest N750,000 which he paid to Mr Agu, the orphanage operator and they were given an adoption form to fill to make it look legitimate.
Speaking to journalists, Rev. Father Chike Ejiofor said: "I wanted to help the lady and that was what I was after because people come to me for help and I help them. I am in shock now. This is my 32 years in the ministry, but look at how I crashed.
"My hands, legs and entire body are in the trap now, how do I extricate myself? I only wanted to help the woman; I had no other intention." The Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Mr. Fimihan Adeoye, led other officers to parade the suspects at the police headquarters in Osogbo on Thursday. Mr Adeoye said the suspects stole the baby and drugged him so he wouldn't cry out when he was being taken out of Osun State.

A 14 year old girl has shocked many as she was arrested in school for reportedly selling marijuana to her fellow students. The ninth grader (equivalent of JSS 3), who is schooling at a high school in Verulam was arrested by members of Reaction Unit South Africa after she was found in possession of 24 wrappings of marijuana yesterday morning.
Reaction Officers received information at about 9:30 am that a female student of the school had in her possession narcotics with the intent of selling to other students in the school during their lunch break.
Acting on the information a female Reaction Officer accompanied by an educator from the school proceeded to the grade nine learners class. When she noticed the Officer enter the classroom she removed a pink pencil case from her bag and placed on the desk of the pupil seated next to her. When the RUSA Officer opened the pencil case she discovered the 24 wrappings of cannabis inside.
The girl upon interrogation then confessed that the drugs were given to her by her 17 year old sister who is in grade 11 at the same school. She went on to explain that she was only filling in for her sister who normally sells the drugs to other students in the school, because she was absent from school on that day.
She also confessed that she was instructed to give the pencil case to another learner who would approach her during the lunch break and assist her to sell the drugs to other learners for R5.00 each.
According to her: “My sister sells the drugs to other pupils in school but she is not fine and cannot make it to school today, so i was asked to give the drugs to a guy who will help sell to other students in the school that normally buys from my sister”

President Muhammadu Buhari has stated that sports remained the only tool that can unite and promote peace and coexistence among Nigerians, and by extension Africans. He made the remark at the opening ceremony of the African Wrestling Championships on today at the Alfred Diete Spiff Civic Centre in Port Harcourt. The President who was represented by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Barrister Solomon Dalung said: “Africa remains the bride of the next civilization. Therefore, we must exploit the potentials of sports to create jobs, to entertain our people, to promote peaceful coexistence, to improve on tourism and promote the health well being of our nation. Investing in sports is the next step Africa must look into.” President Buhari charged the athletes to be good ambassadors of Africa and compete fairly.
“This is an opportunity to showcase the very rich talents you possess. This championship will afford you the opportunity to excel because athletes who will be competing at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games will be produced here, therefore, I urge you to compete fairly and honestly and ensure that the benefits accruing from this competition remain the ultimate goal for all.”
President Buhari, who had earlier commissioned the Alfred Diete Spiff Civic Center, also commended the Government and the people of Rivers State for hosting the championship and renovating the venue of the championship to international standard. He also used the opportunity to appeal to African youths to believe in Africa and the greatness therein.
“Let me encourage African youths to continue to have hope in Africa. African youths must believe in Africa. There is no better place than Africa therefore, the trans Mediterranean migration by African youths should be discouraged. There are great potentials on this continent so let us collectively work hard to build a strong continent that will be the hub of the black world.” Over 26 countries are in Port Harcourt as of today, for the 5-day championship.

A seven-year-old boy identified as Wisdom Adefemi, has accused his father, Olusegun Adefemi pictured above, of sexually abusing his three-year-old sister five times and attempting to penetrate his anus and that of his five-year-old brother, Godspower. Wisdom made the allegation when he spoke at a press briefing organized by the Lagos state police command in Ikeja yesterday February 5th. Wisom said his father had subjected him to beatings because he refused to allow him have anal sex with him. “My daddy slept with my younger sister from here (pointing at the minor’s private parts) He put her on the floor and did it. It was not once, it was five times. He wanted to penetrate me from the back, but I refused. He wanted to do the same thing to my younger brother, Godspower. When we refused, he beat us up.”he said
Breifing newsmen, the state commissioner of police, Edgal Imohimi, said the suspect was arrested on February 2nd at 6, Ipakan Street, Ijede, Lagos State, after an official of Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), Adekoya Sesan, reported the incident. Imohimi said investigations carried out by the command, shows that the suspect injured his daughter in her private part.

The girl has been taken to Mirabel Medical Centre for examination and treatment, while her siblings have been accommodated in a temporary home''
When interrogated by newsmen, the suspect said he was shocked by the allegations leveled against him by his own son.
“I am shocked at the allegations. I am innocent. I have never done it and I will never do it. I heard that my children accused me of defiling their sister. They never said it before me. I thought that they (the police) would bring them (my children) before me and ask them so that I can hear it from them, but they did not. You should know they are children and can be lured by biscuit or sweet to say anything. I do not know where that came from. I know I usually beat up my kids when they do something wrong. I don’t think this is an offence because I don’t want my children to become wayward. Their mother left over a year ago and since then, I have been with them. I do bricklaying jobs sometimes. At other times, I work as a conductor to provide for our needs.” he said
The police boss said the suspect would be arraigned in court soon.
