Jobs/Vacancies / 7 Common Lies Interviewers Tell Job Candidates by LekkiHost: 2:00pm On Jul 24, 2017
Do job interviewers lie?

Almost every job seeker have to give untrue information on their CVs to increase their chances of getting the job and be perceived as the best fit for the job.

Unfortunately, while the candidates try to give their best, giving suitable answers to the top 63 most asked interview questions, there are more things than the qualifications and questions.

Interviewers also lie about their intentions by diplomatically crafting their responses to your performance during a job interview.

According to Jobcluster, sometimes you need to recognize some of their lies, so that you don’t end up in a situation you won’t like.

These are the seven common lies that you will usually find job interviewers telling.

1“We will call you and get back to you in some time.”

For the job seekers this statement is like a red flag.

According to the experience of most of the job candidates, “Getting back to you”, most of the time means that somewhere the interviewer is not exactly impressed and is considering you as an option in case they do not find the best candidate.

Keeping expectations from such interview might not be a good idea.

2“We are impressed but we still need to interview more people.”

If they are really so impressed, then why are they informing you that they need to interview more people? In a way they are hinting you that it may not just work out.

When interviewers say that, it means that they find you a potential candidate but they are not entirely satisfied and are looking for a better candidate.

3“You are good and we will consider you, if not for this then for some other project.”

Face it; you are most probably not going to be considered for any other project. Interviewers just tell this lie as they find it as a much easier way to get out of the situation without telling you a direct ‘No’.

Also, if in certain cases they do call you for another project, it might not be satisfying or up to your expectation.

4“We will give you salary considering your work experience.”

Undoubtedly experience counts but the salary is not always based on that. Before recruiting, the company has a pre-decided salary package, in case the interviewer cities your experience as a reason for lower salary package, make sure you are well researched about the position and the salary package so that you are not fooled and can negotiate well.

5“We are still thinking about the offering salary, we will let you know once it is fixed.”

There is no way an interview can happen without actually fixing the salary for the position.

So, if the interviewer tells you this, then there is something definitely wrong. Chances are there that you might get pinned for a job that offers less than deserving.

6 "You would find a great working atmosphere sans any politics.”

You are definitely not a child to fall for this line. Where there is competition there is bound to be politics, you cannot escape that.

Every interviewer would like to portray the company in a better and good way but you should be smart enough to figure out the truth.

7 "We offer many benefits to our employees."

Don’t just take the words. It may seem nice and reassuring but without the exact details you never know.

Benefits are offered, but the details would do a lot better than the words. Ensure you research or ask about it.

Sports / Chelsea In Hunt For Man City Striker "Aguero" by LekkiHost: 4:17pm On Jul 17, 2017
Chelsea are in talks with Manchester City over striker Sergio Aguero.

That's according to beIN Sport reporter Tancredi Palmeri.

Chelsea are on the lookout for a new striker after Antonio Conte told Diego Costa he was surplus to requirements.

Palmeri says Chelsea are acting on their interest.

He tweeted: "BOOM! Chelsea in talks for Aguero!"

Aguero has fallen down the pecking order at The Etihad since the arrival of Gabriel Jesus.

Jesus has been Pep Guardiola's first choice since arriving in January.

TV/Movies / China Bans ‘illegal’ Winnie The Pooh Memes by LekkiHost: 2:43pm On Jul 17, 2017
OH, bother. Winnie the Pooh has been banned in China.

Over the weekend, government censors began deleting animated GIFs and posts containing the name of A.A. Milne’s cartoon teddy bear on social media platform Sina Weibo and instant messaging app WeChat, the Financial Times reported.

Neither the Chinese government nor the internet platforms gave any comment, but observers said the crackdown was likely due to a long-running internet meme comparing Chinese President Xi Jinping to the slow-witted, good-natured bear.

The meme started in 2013 when a side-by-side image of President Xi as Winnie and US President Barack Obama as Tigger went viral. The following year, a similar image with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe standing in for sad donkey Eeyore continued the theme.

According to Global Risk Insights, an image of President Xi standing up through a car roof during a parade and a children’s toy car was the most censored image of 2015, prompting the Chinese government to add “Winnie the Pooh” to its internet search blacklist.

According to the Financial Times, attempts to post the Chinese characters for Winnie’s name on Weibo over the weekend returned the message “content is illegal”.

Qiao Mu, assistant professor of media at Beijing Foreign Studies University, told the paper “talking about the president” appeared to have been added to “political organising and political action” as activities disallowed by Chinese authorities.

He said online commentators had been detained after posting comments about the president. “I think the Winnie issue is part of this trend,” he said.

Global Risk Insights analyst Jeremy Luedi described Beijing’s reaction to the Winnie the Pooh meme as “disproportionate and puzzling”. “Firstly, where some see harmless fun, Beijing sees a serious effort to undermine the dignity of the presidential office and Xi himself,” he wrote.

“Authoritarian regimes are often touchy, yet the backlash is confusing since the government is effectively squashing an potential positive, and organic, public image campaign for Xi.

“Beijing’s reaction is doubly odd given the fact that Xi has made substantial efforts to create a cult of personality showing him as a benevolent ruler; going so far as to promote the moniker ‘Xi Dada’, or ‘Uncle Xi’.”

Travel / See Why Guinness Tastes Different In Africa by LekkiHost: 2:00pm On Jul 17, 2017
Who loves Guinness more than the Irish?

Well, there's the UK: That's the world's biggest market for Guinness.

And then there's Nigeria, which overtook Ireland as the world's second-biggest Guinness market 10 years ago.

Cameroon is the fourth-biggest market for Guinness and the beer is also brewed in Kenya, Uganda and Namibia. Africa, with its $13 billion beer market, is the biggest source of beer sales for the owners of Guinness, the British multinational Diageo.

So how did the dark, tangy porter beer first brewed by Arthur Guinness in Dublin in 1759 come to win the hearts and minds of beer lovers on another continent?

The answer is in a secret recipe sheet kept under lock and key in the Guinness archives at St James' Gate brewery -- and CNN Travel got a look when we visited Dublin for the July episode of "In 24 Hours."
Dated December 14, 1801, it details the unique mix of roasted, malted barley, hops, yeast and water that made up the original Guinness West I
"It really is one of the most precious documents that we hold," says Archive Manager Eibhlin Colgan.

Have hops, will travel

Guinness recently introduced a new porter modeled on its 1801 recipe.
If there's one thing about Guinness you'll hear bandied about more than any other, it's that the world's most famous porter does not travel well. It's said the black stuff tastes better in Ireland than anywhere else and, local lore has it, the best pint in Dublin's Fair City is poured at Mulligan's on Poolbeg Street.

But Guinness didn't get to be the global powerhouse it is today by only catering to taste buds lucky enough to be on Eire's soil.
When Arthur's son, Arthur Guinness II, took the reins in 1803, the beer empire began to grow -- and it followed the routes already created by the British Empire. Especially brewed to survive long sea journeys, Guinness West Indies Porter was hoppier than regular Draught Guinness -- and stronger too.

In 1817, eight barrels of porter journeyed across the Atlantic to South Carolina. By 1827, Guinness was being drunk in Africa, and by 1858 it had made it all the way to New Zealand.

At this time, Ireland was still governed by Britain and Arthur Guinness -- despite the patriotic associations his beer has today -- was a committed unionist and opponent of Irish nationalism.
Porter itself -- so called because of the dark beer's popularity with London's street and river porters -- is actually an English invention. But it was Ireland which made porter known around the world.

The British Empire may be gone, but the Guinness empire remains. In 1962 -- two years after Nigeria gained independence from the UK -- Lagos became home to the first Guinness brewery outside of the United Kingdom. More breweries soon followed.

Today, Guinness is available in more than 100 countries worldwide and is brewed in almost 50.
Guinness Foreign Extra Stout is the 21st-century descendant of the original West India Porter. It's stronger, heavier and punchier than regular Guinness, with a powerful 7.5% ABV. This is the Guinness variant you'll most often find in Africa, Asia and the Caribbean -- brewed on home turf.

In 2014, Guinness also introduced a new 6% ABV version of Guinness West Indies Porter modeled on the original 1801 recipe. It's part of a number of innovations which have helped Irish sales go up 4% in 2016, after several years of decline.
But will they now reveal the magic mix? Not a chance.
Says Colgan, "As we've kept this recipe secret for over 200 years, we're going to keep it that way."

Sports / Michael Carrick Backs Romelu Lukaku To Handle Pressure At Man United by LekkiHost: 12:08pm On Jul 17, 2017
Romelu Lukaku has been warned there is no place to hide at Manchester United by his new captain Michael Carrick.

Lukaku made his first United appearance as a second half substitute during the 5-2 win over LA Galaxy on Saturday night. But the £75 million striker was upstaged by Marcus Rashford as the teenager scored twice and could have completed his hat trick before half-time.

Jose Mourinho insisted afterwards the Belgian had "played better than the ones who did score goals".

But Carrick has told Lukaku will have to learn to deal with the level of expectation at Old Trafford, echoing comments made by former United captain Wayne Rooney on Sunday.

"It's early days," Carrick said. "It's one week's training and 45 minutes, so you can't come to any conclusions. We know what he's all about, there's no surprises.

"We all know exactly what he brings, that's why he's here. He's not going to change his game because he's come here. He does what he does best and obviously he's been brought here to score goals. I'm pretty certain he will do that this season.

"He'll be judged like anyone else on what he does through the season and I'm sure he's ready for that. The scrutiny and everything will go up a level from what he's used to. I'm sure he's prepared for that and I'm sure he will do well."

Lukaku will be expected to fill the void left by Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who scored 28 goals before his season was ended early by a knee ligament injury.

Carrick did not want to compare Lukaku with the previous No. 9, but the new United captain accepts the former Everton man will be judged on the goals he scores.

He added: "Ibra was terrific for us but Rom is his own man. When I came it was Roy Keane who came up but I'm my own man. Whoever comes in, you're always your own man. I don't want to compare them at all because it's not fair to do that.

"It's a jump anyway. I found that myself coming from Tottenham. It's a massive jump. You can't really explain to people until they've gone through it. I'm sure he'll find the same.

"But having Premier League experience is a massive bonus. He'll know how things work week to week. It's just about dealing with the pressure."

United have spent more than £100 million already this summer to sign Lukaku and defender Victor Lindelof, who also made his debut against LA Galaxy. Mourinho said in the build up to the game he wants two more signings to complete his squad.

Carrick admits the aim next season has to be to win the title. He said: "We've got to feel that. It's up to the manager whether more players come in or whether they don't. That's not for us to worry about. That's got to be the aim.

"We have to challenge the best and be the best. It has to be that philosophy at this club no matter what happens. This season is no different.

"We finished last season with a trophy. We've got a good feeling going into this one. We've got the Super Cup coming up pretty quick, so we've got to be focused on that really and then the season ahead."

Health / 10 Benefits Of Having Regular Sex by LekkiHost: 11:00am On Jul 14, 2017
Sex may also play a fundamental role in preserving a happy marriage, according to research published in Psychological Science. Partners are suggested to experience a sexual "afterglow" that lasts for up to 48 hours following sexual intercourse. This afterglow is associated with higher levels of long-term relationship satisfaction.

Sex is also considered a significant form of exercise. Sex burns around 85 calories, or 3.6 calories per minute, according to a study published in PLOS One.

These few examples are a drop in the ocean of the numerous health benefits of sexual activity and masturbation that are presented in studies from around the globe. Medical News Today provide the low-down on the top evidence-based health benefits of sex.

1) Improves immunity

Participating in sex one to two times per week appears to be the optimum frequency to boost the immune system. Scientists can test how tough our immune systems are by measuring levels of an antibody called immunoglobulin A (IgA) in saliva and mucosal linings.
Study authors Carl Charnetski, from Wilkes University in Pennsylvania, and his colleague Frank Brennan found that people who had sex once or twice per week had a 30 percent increase in IgA. However, the same results were not seen in individuals who had sex more or less frequently.

Clifford Lowell, an immunologist at the University of California-San Francisco, says that people who are sexually active are exposed to more infectious agents than individuals who are not sexually active. The immune system responds to these infectious agents by producing more IgA, which may protect against colds and flu.

2) Good for the heart

Physical activities that exercise the heart are good for your health, and this includes sex. Being sexually aroused increases heart rate, with the number of beats per minute peaking during orgasm.
Men, in particular, have been shown to benefit from the effect of sex on the heart. A study published in the American Journal of Cardiology, involving men in their 50s, suggested that men who have sex at least twice per week have a 45 percent reduced risk of heart disease, compared with men who have sex less frequently.

3) Lowers blood pressure

Research conducted by Michigan State University and published in the Journal of Health and Social Behavior found that sex in later years might reduce the risk of high blood pressure - at least for women.

Women in the study aged between 57 and 85 years who found sex pleasurable or satisfying were less likely to have hypertension. However, male study participants who had sex once per week or more were twice as likely to experience heart problems than men who were sexually inactive.

In another study published in Behavioral Medicine, researchers found that the act of hugging can help a person to maintain a healthy blood pressure.

According to the American Heart Association, high blood pressure increases the risk of heart attack and stroke and can also affect your sex life. High blood pressure has an impact on blood flow throughout the body and can prevent enough blood flowing to the pelvis.

In men, high blood pressure can lead to erectile dysfunction and in women, high blood pressure can lower libido and reduce interest in sex. It is considered safe to have sex if you have high blood pressure. However, if you are concerned or are having problems in the bedroom, seek advice from your doctor.

4) Reduces the risk of prostate cancer

Men who frequently ejaculate could be protected against prostate cancer, the most common cancer among men in the United States.

Research led by Michael Leitzmann, from the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, MD, and published in JAMA, discovered that men who ejaculated 21 times per month or more were a third less likely to develop prostate cancer than men who ejaculated between four and seven times per month.

5) Relieves stress

Stress can cause all kinds of health problems, from headaches, problems sleeping, muscle tension, and upset stomach, to more severe conditions, including a weakened immune system and chronic depression.

Evidence published in Psychosomatic Medicine demonstrated that physical or emotional intimacy in couples is associated with reduced stress levels.

A study published in Biological Psychology found that people who engaged in penetrative sex experienced lower stress-related blood pressure when public speaking than individuals who had masturbated or had non-coital sex. Participants in the study who abstained from sex had the highest blood pressure levels triggered by stress.

Stuart Brody, a psychologist at the University of Paisley in the United Kingdom, hypothesized that the calming effect might be caused by the release of the "pair-bonding" hormone, oxytocin.

6) Boosts brain power

Research published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior suggests that frequent sex may improve women's memory. Results from a computerized word-memory task found that women who had penetrative sex had better memory recognition of abstract words.

Leitzmann and team have a number of theories as to why increased ejaculation may help to prevent prostate cancer.

The first theory is that frequent ejaculation may allow the prostate gland to clear out carcinogens, and materials that may orchestrate the development of carcinogens. Another theory suggests that regular drainage of prostate fluid stops crystalloid microcalcifications - which are associated with prostate cancer - from developing in the prostate duct.

Men who have more than 12 ejaculations per month may also benefit, although the researchers note that at this point, the research would not warrant recommending men to change their sexual behavior.

Politics / Liu Xiaobo: China's Most Prominent Dissident Dies by LekkiHost: 3:07pm On Jul 13, 2017
Nobel laureate Liu Xiaobo, who was China's most prominent human rights and democracy advocate, has died aged 61, officials say.

The activist was being treated for terminal liver cancer in a hospital in north-eastern China.

He had been transferred from prison last month, where he was serving an 11-year term for "subversion".

A university professor turned rights campaigner, Mr Liu was branded a criminal by the authorities.

He was repeatedly jailed throughout his life, and had also been subject to heavy restrictions when he was free, while his wife, Liu Xia, was placed under house arrest.

In the weeks leading up to his death, Mr Liu's case became mired in international controversy.

Several Western countries urged China to allow Mr Liu to leave the country to seek palliative care elsewhere. A German and an American doctor who recently visited and examined him said he could travel abroad.

But Chinese medical experts insisted that he was too ill to travel.

Mr Liu has been a pro-democracy figurehead for activists outside mainland China, although many do not know him at home where authorities have rigorously censored news about him.

The activist played a significant role in the Tiananmen protests of June 1989 which ended in bloodshed when they were quashed by troops.

He and other activists negotiated the safe exit of several hundred demonstrators, and has been credited with saving the protesters' lives.

He was subsequently placed in a detention centre and released in 1991.

Mr Liu's campaign for the freeing of those detained during Tiananmen landed him in a labour camp in north-eastern China for three years but he was permitted to marry poet Liu Xia there in 1996.

Sports / Man United Overtake Real Madrid, Barca As Most Valuable Soccer Team by LekkiHost: 2:39pm On Jul 13, 2017
Manchester United is the world’s most valuable soccer team in 2017 after overtaking Barcelona and Real Madrid with an estimated value of $3.69 billion, according to Forbes.

United rank third overall on Forbes’ annual list of the globe’s most valuable sports teams, with the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys retaining top spot at $4.2bn and baseball’s New York Yankees at $3.7bn.

Champions League winners Real Madrid, who had been the No. 1 soccer side the previous four years, fell to third with an estimated value of $3.58bn. Barcelona climbed one spot to second, above their La Liga arch-rivals, after being valued at $3.64bn.

For the first time in five years, United lead the soccer teams in valuation with a total revenue of $765 million (£513m) during the 2015-16 season, which was $77m more than both Barcelona and Real Madrid. The two Spanish giants had total revenue of $688m.

United, who were ranked fifth the previous year, also had an operating income of $288m (£195m), $107m more than Real Madrid.

United’s climb is “a testament to their powerful brand and marketing acumen,” according to Forbes as no soccer team brought in more advertising and sponsorship revenue than the club’s $405m.

Helping Barcelona’s rise was the extension to their kit deal they signed last year with Nike, which is worth at least $168m annually from 2018 through 2023. That figure broke United’s previous record $111m per year deal with Adidas.

Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich (worth a reported $2.71bn) are in 15th place while Manchester City are 35th with a $2.71bn valuation.

Health / 8 Possible Reasons That Could Cause Delayed Period by LekkiHost: 2:48pm On Jul 12, 2017
Having a late period can be very distressing, especially if a woman is used to having regular periods or is concerned about an unexpected pregnancy.

However, there are many other reasons why a woman might have a late period, ranging from birth control to stress.

1. Stress

Prolonged periods of stress can affect a woman’s menstrual cycle, making it longer or shorter, or even causing a missed period.

Some women also report more painful period cramps when experiencing stress.

Avoiding the situations that cause the stress, taking regular exercise, and getting enough sleep can help a person eliminate stress and maintain a regular menstrual cycle.

If a woman is experiencing chronic stress, she might find it beneficial to speak to a doctor or counselor, who can help her identify effective coping mechanisms.

2. Hormonal conditions

Some hormones, such as prolactin or thyroid hormones, can cause a woman to miss her period.

If a hormonal imbalance is responsible for a missed or late period, it can easily be detected with a blood test.

The cause of these hormonal imbalances needs to be investigated by a doctor. Some hormonal imbalances are a common problem that runs in families, or they might be caused by something much more serious, such as a brain tumor.

In many cases, taking medication can help periods return to their normal cycle.

3. Weight loss

Significant weight loss or intense exercise can cause a woman to miss her period. Being underweight or having a low body-fat ratio can alter reproductive hormone levels, lowering them to levels where ovulation and menstruation do not occur.

A woman who has missed one or several periods after losing a significant amount of weight should consult a doctor or dietician about getting the appropriate amount of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that her body needs.

4. Obesity

Just as weight loss can cause a woman to miss her period, being overweight can also affect a woman’s menstrual cycle.

Obesity and missed periods can sometimes signal that a woman has a medical condition, such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), so it is important for a woman to be correctly diagnosed by a doctor. The doctor may recommend blood tests or an ultrasound to look at the ovaries to make sure that no underlying medical conditions are causing missed period.

5. Birth control pill

Some birth control pills can cause a missed period. Some types of birth control, particularly hormonal methods, can cause a woman to miss a period.Typically, hormonal birth control provides a form of estrogen combined with progesterone for a set amount of time, followed by several hormone-free days. The withdrawal of these hormones triggers a period.

Sometimes, these hormones keep the lining of the uterus so thin that there is not enough of the lining to cause a period. This applies to all forms of hormonal birth control, including pills, patches, shots, implants, and rings. In most cases, this is not harmful, but women should speak to a doctor with any concerns about their birth control method.

6. Pregnancy

Women should not rule out pregnancy as a possible reason that their period is late, even if they are using contraception. Women can still get pregnant even if they use birth control correctly.

A sexually active woman with a late period should use a home pregnancy test. It is important to note that there are no forms of birth control that are 100 percent effective. Anyone who is pregnant should seek prenatal healthcare right away. A woman who has a negative result on the home pregnancy test but whose period still does not start should see a doctor.

7. Perimenopause

The average onset of menopause is around the age of 52 when a woman has not had a period for at least 12 months. Many women experience symptoms as early as 10 to 15 years before menopause. This is known as perimenopause and indicates that estrogen levels are beginning to fluctuate.

Irregular estrogen levels can alter a woman’s menstrual cycle, making it common for women in perimenopause to experience irregular or missed periods. Once a woman has gone a full year without a period, she is said to have gone through menopause.

8. PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome)

PCOS is one of the most common hormonal disorders among women of childbearing age.Though the symptoms vary between individual women, those who have PCOS tend to have abnormal hormone levels, which can cause small cysts to develop on the ovaries, acne, excess facial and body hair, male-pattern baldness, and obesity.
Irregular or even absent periods are also a common feature of this condition.Women who suspect that they have PCOS should visit their doctor for an evaluation. If not properly treated, an absence of periods during childbearing years may cause endometrial cancer.

It is recommended that you see a doctor if you are experiencing any of these signs:

- missing several periods in a row
- a positive pregnancy test
- having symptoms of PCOS, as described above
- having gained or lost a lot of weight
- feeling overly stressed
