Ayaboyo:
Hello all. This is my 9 month update.
We left Naija on the 30th of April 2015 via dubai courtesy IOM and arrived Melbourne on the 2nd of May 2015. We met Mayofikky another nairalander and her Family at the Airport. They were enroute Adelaide.
Got called for an Interview for a job I applied for while still in Naija on day 5. Two interviews and lots of phone calls to Naija for reference check, was told i was successful on day 10.
Started working on day 16th. Registered Son for Kinder . Meanwhile we went for a regional job fair on day two . We also did our centrelink and bank paperworks.

Salary is paid forthrightly for most people. We started house hunting towards the end of the month as agent needed reference from work and payslip as part of paperwork for character reference for house. We even got additional letter from our pastor. The fact that you have your money doesn't influence your getting a house. It your credit history and character reference that is key.

We moved from our friend's house who hosted us to a house a month after arrival. We were considered lucky as our host did not get a house for 6 months due to inability to quickly get a job.
Hubby started his masters at Unimelb in the 3rd month, so both kids being under 5 , started full-time daycare i.e $400 per week after govt rebate.

Luckily he got a job a job in a near entry role in his field after 4 months.Half bread is better than none.
We reviewed our finances and my commute time and family life balance. We decided I should start applying for part time jobs.
Luckily I applied and got a job for which over 2500 people applied. I was oneof the lucky 90 employed.
Less commute, half of the working hours of my previous job and same pay. It was a divine provision.

Lessons :God's grace and favor is key. You also need to be computer savvy. You are going to use the computer for everything including knowing where to get bus, train, food ,apply for job, benefits even house.
Police here are armed to the teeth, no sme sme.
Passing your driver test is more stressful than waiting for visa grant mail.
Australian meals are delicious, be prepared to change your palate.
Centrelink are slow to give but very swift to retrieve.
Aboo mi re oòo.
