gj22:He could have managed. Fished the lakes, which will be teeming with fish since its cold. They could have shown us Northern lords. There are lots of Castles he could have gone to ask for help, or he coulda tried to ask. They could have shown them suffering, not for him to just outright listen to Mel. He could have waited for Davos. It looked as if he sent Davos off, in a white elephant quest, and when Davos was gone burnt Shireen. He could have killed the horses and eaten them. As he burnt Shireen, food won't just come out of nowhere if it wasnt there in the first place. Davos was a smuggler for f*cks sake. Stannis just gave up. |
gj22:Aye, but its not reasonable nor can it be justified. |
If somehow this all works out for him, if somehow they prevail, and its cause they burnt Shireen, if somehow he still has an army, or he gets more men, then its just as bad writing as the Sand Snakes. |
He will never do it for the iron throne but for the realm. If he wanted to do it for the iron throne, he would have done it on DS and woken up the stone dragon. He didn't! He reiterated his resolve that his daughter was his heir and he had a duty to his daughter, that is she inherits throne from him. |
gj22:I know you like Stannis. And i think your trying to defend it. But its a weak attempt. |
SeunA:Ithought it was over. |
Intention is a nice feature but it's not always known, and sometimes the outcome is much worse than whatever intention might have envisioned. I personally believe that if a person considers themselves to be ethical, then they should be ethical at all times. They shouldn't make any exceptions. It is very strange for someone who claims to have high moral standards and strict ethical rules to engage in what can be considered to be dubious behavior in order to achieve some greater good. They are more likely to look for other solutions to their problem that don't conflict with their personal values. That's the problem with what Stannis did. |
gj22:The SotH have no skill whatsoever over the unsullied. The unsullied are the best infantry in the world. And part of their training is to fight in formations. Not 1 on 1. |
gj22:Polygamy can be defined as a marriage which includes more than two partners. In Westeros for the highborn and the lowborn marriage is chiefly between two people, a man and a woman. The Faith of the Seven does not permit polygamy. The Targs were allowed to practice it because they were foreigners, same as thier incestual relationships. You're sure he'll find a way, like he didnt do with Shireen ? |
kay9:Well i didnt spoil. D& D did, as an attempt to justify what Stannis did. They made a video of it on YouTube, trying to shift the blame to the books. |
There is no justifying immoral behavior, no matter the motivation for it or the outcome of it. While that may be the only course of action he can necessarily take(which it was not) that does not mean it was justified. |
The ends/means dilemma is a popular scenario in ethics discussions. Usually, the question goes something like this: “If you could save the world by killing someone, would you do it?” If the answer is “yes,” then a morally right outcome justifies the use of immoral means to achieve it. But there are three different things to consider in such a situation: the morality of the action, the morality of the outcome, and the morality of the person performing the action. In this situation, the action (murder) is clearly immoral and so is the murderer. But saving the world is a good and moral outcome. Or is it? What kind of world is being saved if murderers are allowed to decide when and if murder is justified and then go free? Or does the murderer face punishment for his crime in the world that he has saved? And would the world that was saved be justified in taking the life of the one who had just saved them? And by the way Stannis is not ambitious. |
As for the ends justify the means. Most use it as an excuse to achieve their goals through any means necessary, no matter how immoral, illegal or unpleasant the means may be. What the expression usually means is something like “It doesn’t matter how you get what you want as long as you get it.” Some people believe it. Dont mean its right. Stannis himself said, "A good act does not wash out the bad , nor a bad act the good . Each should have its own reward." The “ends justifying the means” usually involves doing something wrong to achieve a positive end and justifying the wrongdoing by pointing to a good outcome. |
Nairalandinfo:Its not. The reasons leading up to it is make no sense. You cant justify it. |
UjSizzle:The paedophile is Jorah. He's in love with Dany, but way older than her. Also Meryn Trant. |
Ogatitus:Your words contadict themselves. Im saying it makes no sense for Stannis to do so, since he doesnt burn people who did nothing wrong. Its a bad potrayal of Stannis. |
themodernman:Ofcourse you do. Braavos is the Land of Many Gods. |
sage1000:They said George told them Shireen will be burned. They didnt say how, and the event leading up to it. That's them cowering behind the books. They then had to make Stannis do it for shock value. When in the real case Stannis wouldn't do it. And if she burns Stannis wouldn't command it. They made a botch of Stannis. |
sage1000:Not you alone. 90% of book readers hated it.It was really disappointing for the reasons you mentioned. |

SIRcumalot:Yes, Gendry Waters. |
Get ready to be disappointed this night by episode 9. Some shit that a book character will never do is going to happen. And how have you found Dorne this season ?! |
oluamid:Mel never meets Gendry. Its Edric Storm, and he's way younger than Gendry, but both are Robert's bastards. But Gendry never wields a known sword, nor did he forge Lightbringer. P.S i dont think Stannis is Azor Ahai... |
When winter comes for war,
You shall hear no Lions roar.
When winter forces you to yield,
No Stags shall gaze upon the field.
When winter creeps upon you from the
shadows,
No Roses shall bloom from the meadows.
When winter wreaks havoc on the land,
You can bet there'll be no Snakes in the
sand.
When winter brings to life all it finds grim,
The Krakens will freeze where they swim.
When winter sets and the land begins to
shiver,
The Flayed Man will start to rot and
wither.
When winter fights to the last sliver,
No more Trouts shall swim in the river.
When winter ravages and all despair,
No Falcons shall fly high in the air.
When winter shows you what happens
when snow falls,
Not even Dragons Breath shall warm you
in your halls.
When winter comes with all it's might,
Only the Wolves shall howl in the night!

moski5:Book 1. Dany ignored the bloodrider’s outburst. This old, homely, thickbodied woman did not look like a maegi to her. “Where did you learn your healing, Mirri Maz Duur?” “My mother was godswife before me, and taught me all the songs and spells most pleasing to the Great Shepherd, and how to make the sacred smokes and ointments from leaf and root and berry. When I was younger and more fair, I went in caravan to Asshai by the Shadow, to learn from their mages. Ships from many lands come to Asshai, so I lingered long to study the healing ways of distant peoples. A moonsinger of the Jogos Nhai gifted me with her birthing songs, a woman of your own riding people taught me the magics of grass and corn and horse, and a maester from the Sunset Lands opened a body for me and showed me all the secrets that hide beneath the skin.” Ser Jorah Mormont spoke up. “A maester?” “Marwyn, he named himself,” the woman replied in the Common Tongue. “From the sea. Beyond the sea. The Seven Lands, he said. Sunset Lands. Where men are iron and dragons rule. He taught me this speech.” |
DangotePikin:Wow. |
chilez:Do you know the fees ? For engineering specifically. |
Klalessi is too weak for that throne. In life (thix present world/reality), men have sacrificed "anything" for their goalz/ambitionz/power...& what Stannis did is justified as far as 'm concerned
