I actually feel lucky to witness something like this now. At first I didn’t understand what was happening, but after noticing that both parents were coming to feed the little ones, I became interested. I’ve released the bird and I’m leaving the nest alone. I’ll just observe them from a distance and let nature take its course

You people have officially made me a resident of the animal kingdom. I honestly didn’t notice when the bird was building the nest. By the time I realized what was happening, they had already established their family residence inside my window At this point, I have accepted my role as their landlord. No rent, no electricity bill, just peace and quiet I’ve released the bird and I’m allowing them to raise their chicks peacefully. I come in peace too👍

Honestly, even I don’t know why a simple bird turned into a JAMB question. I thought it was just Should I release this bird but suddenly there are 14 different things to consider. 😂 Anyway, I’ve released it now, so at least that part of the exam has been answered.

I once had a bird lay its nest on my bathroom window. I allowed it, it laid eggs and I watched it incubate and hatch her eggs. Watched them grow enough to leave the nest. I would be taking a dump in the toilet and the mama bird would just be looking at me. It got comfortable that it stopped flinching even when I get close to her and her nest.

This one made me laugh. Imagine doing your business in the toilet while the mother bird is just there staring at you like, “Are you done yet? I have children to feed. But seriously, it’s amazing how comfortable they can become around humans when they realize you’re not a threat. I’m also trying not to disturb mine. It’s actually interesting watching them raise their young.

Don't touch it, just let it be, after few weeks when the chicks are strong they'll leave. Then make sure you destroy the nest otherwise another bird might come in and lay eggs there.

Thank you. That’s what I’m doing now. I’ve stopped interfering and I’m just allowing them to do their thing. I didn’t touch the nest or the chicks. I’ll wait until the chicks are fully grown and leave before I even think about doing anything with the nest. For now, they are free to use my window as their maternity ward

That’s exactly what I eventually did. I wasn’t planning to keep it anyway; I was just confused about what was best to do because of the chicks. I’ve released the bird now and left the window open so they can come and go freely

Y Good I once have dove that built a similar nest on my window. For over 3 years I witness them ( several different doves) nursing their babies on same nest. This is from when they lay their two eggs, sit on it for days, hatched and nursing stage where mom and dad both took turns to feed their baby birds.

That’s actually amazing. I didn’t know birds could keep using the same nest for that long. This is my first time witnessing something like this up close, and honestly I’ve become interested in watching them. I can now understand why the two adult birds were always taking turns bringing food. Thanks for sharing your experience.

If they were still eggs, the bird might abandon them. But since they already hatched, the mother and the father might get scared and fly away but are never far from the children.

Thank you for the explanation. That was actually what I was worried about initially because I didn’t know whether trapping the mother could make them abandon the chicks. That’s why I decided to ask before doing anything. I’ve released her now and I’m leaving them completely undisturbed. I’ve also noticed that she now stays in the nest longer after feeding while the other bird flies away. Hopefully the chicks will grow strong and leave safely.

UPDATE 2: Something interesting happened after I freed the bird. I noticed that before, whenever the two adult birds came to feed the chicks, they would both leave shortly afterward. But since I opened the window and released the female, she has started staying inside the nest after feeding while the husband flies away.

As I’m writing this, she is still inside the nest. I’m just observing from a distance. Maybe the chicks are getting to the stage where she needs to stay with them more.

Nature is really fascinating. I’m glad I listened to the advice here and let them remain free.

Thank you. That was exactly what I eventually did. I opened the window and allowed the bird to leave on its own. The other bird was still around outside, so I’m glad I didn’t keep it trapped. I’ll leave the place open and let them come and go as they please. 👍

Thanks so much to everyone who took the time to comment and share their advice. I read through the responses and decided that the best thing to do was to open the window and let the bird go back to its mate and the little ones.

As soon as I opened it, the bird flew out, and the other bird was still around. I’m honestly relieved because I didn’t want to be the reason the family was separated.

I’ll leave the nest and the birds completely undisturbed from now on. Thank you all once again for your advice and concern

Good morning everyone. I need your advice/opinions on something that happened in my house.

I took this picture of a bird that has been visiting my window for some time now. At first, I didn’t really pay much attention to it, but after some time I started noticing that the bird was coming regularly and behaving differently.

There is a kind of net/space around my window, and apparently, the bird has made a nest somewhere inside. I could always hear the sounds of the little birds/chicks inside whenever the adult bird came around.

What really caught my attention was that the adult bird didn’t just come there randomly. It seemed like the mother and another bird, which I assume is the father or her mate, were both taking care of the little ones. I would see one of them come around with something in its mouth, enter the net, stay for a while and then leave. Sometimes the other one would come shortly after and do the same thing.

So I became curious and started paying more attention to them. I could hear the little birds making noise whenever the adults came to feed them. It was actually interesting to watch because both adult birds seemed to be taking turns caring for the young ones.

Now this is where the problem started.

Today, the bird came into the net again. I happened to be close to the window, so I quickly closed/locked the window without thinking much about it. After I locked it, I realized that the bird was now trapped inside.

She immediately started trying to find her way out. She was moving around and looking for an opening, obviously trying to escape. At the same time, I could see the other bird outside flying around and staying close to the window.

The outside bird kept moving around as if it was looking for its mate. Meanwhile, the one inside was also moving around trying to find a way out.

That’s when I started feeling somehow guilty because I realized that I might have separated a mother from her babies and also separated the two adult birds from each other.

Now I’m confused about what to do.

Should I open the window and allow the bird to fly out immediately?

Or should I leave her there for a while because the chicks are inside the net and she may need to stay around them?

I’m also wondering whether I should completely leave the nest and the birds alone from now on, or whether I should do something to make the place safer for them.

I honestly didn’t plan to trap the bird. It happened because I noticed her inside and locked the window. I also don’t want to do anything that could harm the bird or prevent the parents from taking care of their young ones.

I’ve attached the picture I took of the bird.
