What is going on guys, relatively new studio here building our first mobile title and we are debating hard between stylized and semi-realistic visual direction. The problem is we do not have strong 2D concept artists internally so we cannot even properly prototype both directions to make an informed decision. Has anyone outsourced early concept art specifically to explore art direction before committing to full production? Would love to hear how that worked out for different teams. Appreciate it.

So I am not even sure how to explain this properly but here goes. We are making a 2D fantasy strategy game and hired three different artists over the past year for character work. Each one was talented individually but looking at our roster now it is honestly embarrassing, one character looks like it belongs in a mobile casual game, another looks AAA dark fantasy, and a third looks like a cartoon. Players in our closed beta keep commenting on it. We need to fix this but have no idea whether to redo everything or find someone who can unify what we have. Anyone dealt with this before?

Man, three talented artists with three completely different visual languages is such a common and genuinely painful situation. Good news is it is fixable without throwing everything away.
