Manchester City defender Kolo Toure will miss the start of next season after being banned from all football for failing a drugs test.

The Ivorian has been hit with the suspension by the FA after admitting a doping offence for taking his wife's diet pills. The ban has been back dated to March 2 when he was suspended by his club, meaning he will not be abel to kick a ball again anywhere until September 2.

The City defender had to sit out the last two months of the season and missed his team's FA Cup triumph over Stoke as well as seeing his team-mate wrap up third spot in the Premier League and thus Champions League qualification.

In confirming the ban on Thursday evening, the FA revealed the Toure will also be the subject of target testing for a period of two years from 26 May 2011, but admitted the defender did not take the pills to try and increase performance.

"He did not intend to enhance sporting performance or to mask the use of a performance enhancing substance," the statement read.

"The Player accepted he was at fault and with that concession we agree. He was at fault in the limited and perfunctory efforts he made in relation to the water tablets; the checks he made in relation to those tablets were inadequate and fell some way below what it would be reasonable to expect of a professional footballer in these circumstances."

Toure admitted he was relieved the saga was over but claimed he was disappointed to have missed out on City's end of season successes.

“This has been a difficult period for me, and I am sad to have missed the team’s triumph of securing Champions League football for Manchester City and also the FA Cup victory at Wembley," commented Toure," he told City's official website.
"But I am relieved that I will be able to return to football in September and thank the FA’s commission for their understanding about my case in coming to their decision today.

Shaibu Daniel,A 35-year-old farmer was docked on Wednesday, before a magistrates’ court sitting in Osogbo for impregnating a mad woman.

He was alleged to have impregnated one Shakirat Makinde believed to be a lunatic at Ota-efun area of Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

Daniel, a father of three kids, is married to one Mrs Alice Shuaibu, who travelled since last year December and is yet to return.

Daniel is facing a two-count charge of alleged assault and having a carnal knowlege of the lunatic and impregnating her.

According to the accused, he did not know that Shakirat Makinde was not mentally alright, adding that she came to his house dressed neatly and they had sexual intercourse together after which he gave her N50. The second time he gave her N100 and the third time they ate the food he was eating together.

The  charge sheet reads in parts: “That you Shaibu Daniel between the month of January and May 2011 at Ota-efun, Osogbo, in the Osogbo Magisterial District did have unlawful carnal knowledge of one Shakirat Makinde knowing fully well that she is of unsound mind and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 221(2) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol 11 laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2003.

“That you did unlawfully and indecently assault one Shakirat Makinde knowing full well that she is a lunatic person and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 360 of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Vol 11 laws of Osun state of Nigeria 2003.”

Wife of slain Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) of Ibereko Barracks, Mr. Samson Okedusi, Tayo has told how her husband rushed to his death. Tayo, who spoke at their home, House No. 1 Sam Tayo Street, Ibereko, said she had prepared tea for her husband before he received a phone call that he should report in the office.

Turai Yar’adua used the opportunity of the first anniversary of her husband’s death on Thursday, May 5, to lambast the Nigerian media for their incessant references to the current first lady’s entertaining command of English. Mrs Yar’adua described the Nigerian media’s actions as “simply tribalistic”.

All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, governorship candidate, Rochas Okorocha, has won the Imo state gubernatorial elections.

The final results announced by INEC Saturday morning, showed that the APGA candidate scored 336,859 votes with the incumbent governor Ikedi Ohakim scoring 290,490 votes.

Supplementary governorship election were supposed to be held, yesterday, in four local councils and one ward in Imo State. However, election did not hold in Oguta local govt due to security threat.
19 candidates contested for the governorship position in the state.
