A blast has reportedly rocked central Kaduna on Wednesday, July 23, with many people feared killed. Premium Times refers to the words provided by a tragedy witness. The explosion was said to have occurred in the afternoon along Isa Kaita road leading to the popular Murtala Square. The attack is believed to have targeted at the convoy of a prominent Islamic cleric, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, who was heading to the Square. The witness identified as Hassan Mohammed said the bomb was hidden in a red Volkswagen golf car parked by the road side adding it detonated as Sheikh’s convoy drove past. While the Sheikh was not hurt in the attack, many other people were reportedly killed: "As I speak to you now, I can see many bodies on the ground." The official information is yet to be provided, but the security and emergency services are said to have arrive to the site. Premium Times recalls that Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, a known critic of the Boko Haram sect, was previously targeted, however it is unclear with Boko Haram are responsible for the explosion |

The deadly Boko Haram sect has recaptured 45 out of the 63 women and children who reportedly escaped from their detention camps last Friday night. Abass Gava, a member of Chibok Vigilante Group who spoke yesterday, July 7 in a telephone interview said the 45 women and children were recaptured while attempting to flee from the camps where they were held in their respective villages, Vanguard reports. "It is very unfortunate and shocking to tell you today (yesterday) that 45 of the 63 escaped women and children were kidnapped again on Sunday night, leaving only 18 that ran into this forests," Gava said. Background During the American Revolution, the legal separation of the Thirteen Coloniesfrom Great Britain occurred on July 2, 1776, when the Second Continental Congressvoted to approve a resolution of independencethat had been proposed in June by Richard Henry Leeof Virginiadeclaring the United States independent from Great Britain. [ 4 ] [ 5 ]After voting for independence, Congress turned its attention to the Declaration of Independence, a statement explaining this decision, which had been prepared by a Committee of Five, with Thomas Jeffersonas its principal author. Congress debated and revised the wording of the Declaration, finally approving it on July 4. A day earlier, John Adamshad written to his wife Abigail: The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more. [ 6 ] Adams's prediction was off by two days. From the outset, Americans celebrated independence on July 4, the date shown on the much-publicized Declaration of Independence, rather than on July 2, the date the resolution of independence was approved in a closed session of Congress. [ 7 ] Historians have long disputed whether Congress actually signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, even though Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and Benjamin Franklinall later wrote that they had signed it on that day. Most historians have concluded that the Declaration was signed nearly a month after its adoption, on August 2, 1776, and not on July 4 as is commonly believed. [ 8 ] [ 9 ] [ 10 ] [ 11 ] [ 12 ] In a remarkable coincidence, both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, the only signers of the Declaration of Independence later to serve as Presidents of the United States, died on the same day: July 4, 1826, which was the 50th anniversary of the Declaration. Although not a signer of the Declaration of Independence, but another Founding Fatherwho became a President, James Monroe, died on July 4, 1831, thus becoming the third President in a row who died on this memorable day. Calvin Coolidge, the 30th President, was born on July 4, 1872, and, so far, is the only President to have been born on Independence Day. |
