I started searching for a moderate house to buy in Abuja sometime in June 2018 after making some savings in the last three(3) years. I did some searching on to enable me have an idea of price range for my class of houses which was successful. In the course of my search i got a property that has been put up for sale for the past two(2) and the owner an elderly man is in need of cash for whatever ever reason. I met with him and reached an agreement to pay 60% of the house uprightly and offset the balance in 12months time. Part of the agreement is to allow me move in the house while settling the balance. Now, after spending good money for renovation and living with my family in the house because i know for certain with long life that i can offset the balance in the time bound form my salary, the old man changed song and is now insisting that 6 months is what he can permit. I am left to assume that the man used me solve his pressing financial needs at the time only for him to now start playing crooked. My error is that i didnt insist on him signing the legal agreement before parting with my hard earned savings. he is now threatening to refund my money if i dont settle him this month six(6) months from the time of initial payment. Please i need an advice from property lawyers in the house as its not feasible for me to balance him this month. What can i do please? i have never said i will balance him in six(6) months because i worked out payment plans based on my regular income. Please advice. Nice 1 but in this hard time of our national life I expected our dear Governor to patronise Innoson IVM. This is mot progress I think.
