So, went in search of cheap courier services to deliver within the country... na wah! N4000 for a 0.5kg parcel to Awka... crazy!
Also branched by the EMS/NIPOST office (Garki, Abuja) only to be told that before you can recieve your international package you have to pay N1500 as per handling fees(1-5 kg=N1500, 6-10=2000, 11-15=2500 etc). I ask if this is official and the guy there even shows me a reciept for this service.
This is in addition to whatever customs duty you would also have to pay. Damn crazy and increasing operational costs unecessarily.
Please who can confirm this official handling charge to be true and legit?? :/

sultaan:
Why will OP spend a boatload of money on some quack mechanic then come for free advice after damage is done.

Original problem could have been fixed with 4qt of Mercon, or 4 spark plugs and a air/fuel filter.

If OP drove for a while with hand brakes on(new driver) she could have boiled off the brake fluids and the brakes are now dragging. She gave the symptoms that brakes were holding with legs off throttle so why change transmission system!

The codes P0420 for catalytic converter is from a bad spark plug/ignition system dumping fuel into engine easy fix and part of maintenance schedule(change spark plugs every 5 years)

Its easy to say a car brand is bad when mechanics are really the bad ones. The only good thing will be if the mechanics rip her off and acttually never messed with her transmission.
Hi, just for the record, the gear box was changed due to an accident which resulted in a crack in the box with all the ATF leaking out (had to have the car towed to the work shop). I have attached a picture of the old gear box just before it was replaced. If you zoom in, you can see the crack(small black spot which is from a broken off piece), and NOT because the mechanic said so. The old gear box is sitting in my store room. The acceleration problem however existed before the accident.
As for driving with the hand brake up, yes, it might have resulted in boiling off the brake fluid which causes the car to drag when foot goes off acceleration pedal.
Perhaps you can recommend anyone with knowledge of the matter, because after trying to explain to some mechanics my suspicions they don't seem to understand the 'grammer I'm blowing'. I'm almost tempted to get under the car myself armed with youtube videos, a spanner, screw driver and lots of google articles! Any help appreciated!

Self medication, is very dangerous. grin

Try somthing, get a scanner and monitor tps angle under live scan, if you notice any funny values when car should be idling then replace, but please don't start drinking panadol for malaria.
Lol!! I'm at the point of drinking cough medicine for malaria, after so much money spent sadAny suggestions where I could get a scanner or have it scanned in Abuja?
Car Talk2004 Ford Focus Throttle Position Sensor(TPS) Malfunction. by LizzieAde(op): 1:24pm On Feb 08, 2015
Hello everyone, I've got a 2004 ford focus(automatic transmission) which I'm 99% sure has a TPS problem. Due to passivity on my part, I've changed the entire transmission system, fuel pump as well as fuel filter (following advise of various mechanics, trial and error and a lot of money spent).
After carefully observing the symptoms, this is what I gather:
-Check engine light always on
-(!) Symbol always on
-Car starts and moves without trouble
-Jerking and failure to accelerate occurs after car had been driving for some time, when car has been stationary with engine running for some time, during 'start and stop' type Abuja traffic
-Also, the car starts to 'brake' on its own if I release the acceleration pedal while driving on a downward slope.

When standing at a traffic light after driving around for some time, stepping on acceleration makes the car jerk and not pick speed needed to move smoothly. I have to park, switch of the engine and wait for a few minutes before proceeding.
Alternatively, I switch of the engine when at a red light and start engine when light turns green (when parking is not possible).

This is VERY frustrating to say the least. So, I decided to conduct a google research using all the symptoms I have observed over the weeks(which I should have done right from the start) and various forums confirm a TPS problem.
Some advice to try tightening the sensor first and watching for symptoms before embarking on a complete replacement as it has proven to be effective in taking care of the problem.

Questions:
- What do you think of my assesment of the problem?
- Where/who can you recommend to fix the problem? (Abuja)
- Approximate cost(if possible) of said procedures( TPS tightening and/or replacement)

Any input eagerly welcomed. Thank you!
