MAYBE you associate Intelwith the processor that makes your laptop work. On one hand, that’s a triumph of branding: For a slogan from a company that doesn’t actually sell directly to consumers, “Intel Inside” is a familiar idea.

On the other hand, it’s a potential problem. Years after the peak of the so-called Wintel era — when PCs with Windows operating systems and Intel chips dominated — Intel considers itself as a much more diversified technology creator and wants consumers to see it that way, too.

Intel’s effort to shift that brand perception has been going on for a couple of years. But perhaps the most interesting component of this push is only now establishing itself: an internal advertising group, formally started in February 2015, that is in a unique position to crank out stories promoting the most innovative happenings associated with Intel. In an amusing echo of the Wintel era, it is called Agency Inside.

This internal creative group is on track to have 90 employees by the end of the year, according to Teresa Herd, the Intel global creative director heading the enterprise. The company has also started an internal video and digital studio, Intel Global Production Labs, led by Yogiraj Graham. These entities have produced a slew of original content and have played a crucial role in some of Intel’s most mainstream branding efforts.

A video about a woman in India with an epileptic son who used an Intel Edison (a stamp-size minicomputer designed for the inventor audience) as a component in devising a glove that can detect oncoming epilepsy episodes will be released online on Monday.

The big picture, according to Intel’s chief marketing officer, Steven Fund — who has worked at Procter & Gamble, Pepsi and Staples — is that Intel wasn’t “getting credit for all the experiences that we enable.” Not enough people realize, he said, that Intel’s various processors and other technologies beyond PC chips play some role in all sorts of creative experiments in realms including fashion and art and science and medicine.

“We were marketing ourselves as an ingredient brand,” said Mr. Fund, who has been with Intel since 2014. He said Intel had become so associated with PCs that the company was “a little bit of a victim of our branding success with ‘Intel Inside.’”

Thus Intel altered its broader marketing. The official “Intel swirl” logo is now punctuated by the slogan “experience what’s inside” — to shift the emphasis to end results from intrinsic functionality. Working with a new outside agency, McGarryBowen, it released a splashy TV spot, “Anthem,” this year, specifically to showcase the sheer diversity of cool-looking stuff that Intel tech had helped make happen.

Intel, Mr. Fund said, “decided to bring a lot of advertising in-house,” and hired Ms. Herd, then working at Staples, to oversee that effort. (Mr. Fund noted that Intel continued to work with outside agencies as well: “It’s a good mash-up, if you will.”)

Ms. Herd says her team operates much like an external agency — by responding to the marketing needs of various departments — but enjoys far greater access to current and future projects at the company that, as she put it, “nobody else knows about.” Efficiency aside, this is also an appealing situation for those she’s recruiting for the creative department.

A series of videos created around the theme “Experience Amazing” went deeper into the stories of some of the projects highlighted in the “Anthem” spot. For example, a clip about participants in a solar-car contest, who used Intel technology in testing and refining their entry, has more than two million views on YouTube. Another,about a dress adorned with “proximity-activated” mechanical butterflies that hover and return to the garment through a design that relies partly on an Intel Edison chip, has about 1.5 million views.

Another series, “Meet The Makers,” tells short, documentary-style stories — such as a scientist’s efforts to understand the decline in the bee population by tracking the insects with tiny Intel-powered “backpacks,” and an eighth-grader’s creation of a low-cost Braille printer, using an Edison chip.

So far, Agency Inside’s focus isn’t broadcast spots; these two- or three-minute videos are distributed and promoted through social media and Intel’s own online publication, iQ, which is available in 17 languages and, the company says, seen by more than one million people a month. The idea is to promote Intel within cultural-interest industries that are not necessarily tech-based, such as fashion, music and sports.

The Pope was also asked, by the same journalist, whether Christians bear some blame for hatred toward the LGBT community, as horrifically demonstrated in the Orlando massacre at a gay night club that killed 49 people on June 12.

A 17-year-old, blind Chihuahua named Sweepee Rambo has beaten 16 other contestants to emerge the world's ugliest dog and net its owner a £1000 cash prize and a six-foot trophy.

The dog impressed judges with its ugliness as it walked the red carpet.

The World's Ugliest Dog competition, now in its 28th year, is held at the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds in Petaluma, California, about 40 miles (64 km) north of San Francisco.

The wife of Maine Republican Governor, Ann LePage got a waitressing job a few weeks ago to "supplement" her husband's $70,000 per year salary, the lowest of any U.S. governor. The Governor Paul LePage made this known at a recent town hall in Maine.
The LePages live with their dog, in the Augusta governor's mansion and bought a $215,000 Boothbay home two years ago. The governor recently tried but failed to increase his successor's salary to $150,000 per year, above the nearly $135,000 average for all 50 state governors in 2015.

The surgery theater at the Effia-Nkwanta regional hospital in Takoradi in the Western region, Ghana, caved in during a live surgical operation.

The development caused a temporary hold up on three ongoing operation and doctors had to transfer the patients to Kwesi Mintin Hospital for the process to continue. One of the patients, a 31-year-old pregnant woman died. Her death are being attributed to the incident.

There was shoot out between some police officers and soldiers at the Maiduguri Government House, Borno state this afternoon when soldiers in a truck attempted to forcefully get a share of the rice being distributed to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) not living in camps in the state.

DailyTrust reports that the distribution of rice for the IDPs had started from about a week ago under the watch of policemen in the Government House who are to ensure that the rice is given only to the people who really need it.

It is being alleged that the soldiers had been coming to get from the rice since the distribution started without appropriate documentation.

A 20-year-old Nigerian man has been found guilty of murdering a teenage boy in north London. Uchechukwu Ejimonye, of Roth Walk, N7 was yesterday, Wednesday, 22 June found guilty at the Old Bailey in connection with the death of 17-year-old Vasilaki Kakko in Holloway. He will be sentenced today Thursday, 23 June.

Mark Zuckerberg is one of the most powerful men in the world because billions of people give Facebook, which he founded, free access to their personal data. In return, users receive carefully curated snapshots of his life: baby photos, mundane office tours and the occasional 5K.

On Tuesday, observers were reminded that Mr. Zuckerberg, 32, is not just a normal guy who enjoys running and quiet dinners with friends. In a photoposted to his Facebook account, he celebrated the growing user base of Instagram, which is owned by Facebook. An eagle-eyed Twitter user named Chris Olson noticed that in the image’s background, his laptop camera and microphone jack appeared to be covered with tape.

Other publications, including Gizmodo, used the tweet to raise the question: Was this paranoia, or just good practice?


The taped-over camera and microphone jack are usually a signal that someone is concerned, perhaps only vaguely, about hackers’ gaining access to his or her devices by using remote-access trojans— a process called “ratting.” (Remote access is not limited to ratters: According to a cache of National Security Agency documents leaked by Edward J. Snowden, at least two government-designed programs were devised to take over computer cameras and microphones.)

Security experts supported the taping, for a few good reasons:

• The first is that Mr. Zuckerberg is a high-value target.

“I think Zuckerberg is sensible to take these precautions,” Graham Cluley, an online security expert and consultant, wrote in an email Wednesday. “As well as intelligence agencies and conventional online criminals who might be interested in targeting his billions, there are no doubt plenty of mischievous hackers who would find it amusing to spy upon such a high-profile figure.”

• The second is that covering photo, video and audio portals has long been a basic and cheap security safeguard.


“Covering the camera is a very common security measure,” Lysa Myers, a security researcher at the data security firm ESET, said in an email. “If you were to walk around a security conference, you would have an easier time counting devices that don’t have something over the camera.”

• Third, Mr. Zuckerberg is not immune to security breaches.

A recent hacking of his Twitter and LinkedIn accounts shows that he most likely committed two basic privacy faux pas: He may have used the same password across several websites and did not use two-factor authentication.

Judging from his photo, however, it appears that Mr. Zuckerberg was taking simple precautions to protect himself from anyone who may try to gain remote access. The practice is fairly technologically simple: Hackers trick people into clicking on links or unfamiliar websites containing malwarethat allows them access to the devices.

Mr. Zuckerberg is not the only high-profile case: James Comey, the director of the F.B.I., also puts tape over his computer’s webcam, for surprisingly simple reasons, according to NPR:

A police constable killed his girlfriend and ex-girlfriend and then turned his gun on himself, Daily Sun SA, reports.

Robbie Raburabu, a spokesman for the Independent Police Investigative Directorate, said the trouble started when the constable’s ex-girlfriend, 23-year-old Leah Mahlangu-Magwala (pictured), visited his neighbour in Bronkhorstspruit, Gauteng on Thursday June 16.

Leah then learned that the constable, who cannot be named as his family has not yet been informed of his death, had a new girlfriend, Buhle Mabena (18).

"Mahlangu-Magwala went to his house for a while before returning to the neighbour’s house. Shortly after her visit they heard the constable and Mabena arguing," said Raburabu.

During the argument a gun went off. The neighbour and Mahlangu-Magwala rushed over to see what had happened.

A 17 year old Bronx teenager, Carl Ducasse, was stabbed to death by a homeless man after giving $2 to another homeless man, because the money was too small, the victim’s mom said Saturday.

The teenager who was set to graduate high school this month, was knifed multiple times in his chest late on Friday, police said.
The teen’s mother, Angela Ducasse, while weeping said:
“The homeless guy wanted more.” “He died because of $2. I can’t believe he’s gone.”

Federal High Court jails five persons for human trafficking - NAPTIP
A Federal High Court sitting in Kano today sentenced 5 persons to prison for committing various offences of human trafficking.

The Court presided over by Hon. Justice Saleh Idrissa sentenced them to different jail terms. The convicts are: Wasilu Umar (22yrs), Shafi’u Ali (29yrs), Kamaludden Ya’u (22yrs), Dalhatu Gambo (34yrs) and Nuhu Ahmad (25 yrs).

Wasilu Umar who was sentenced to 2 years in prison on each of the two Counts charge, was found guilty of inducing a 16 years old girl to go to a brothel in Sumaila Local Government of Kano State without the consent of her parents and forced her into illicit intercourse with himself and other men; and moving the same girl from Kano to a brothel in Abuja without the consent of her parents knowing that she will be forced into illicit intercourse or prostitution with himself and other men.

All these are contrary to and punishable under section 15(a) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.
Shafi’u Ali was sentenced to 2 years in prison having been found guilty of procuring an underage girl for prostitution and converting his rented room into a brothel where he had sex with her; procured other men to have sex with her and at the same time collected the proceeds of the illegitimate act from her. This offence runs contrary to and punishable under section 16 (1) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.

Kamaludden was sentenced to 2 years in prison for inducing a 16 year old girl from Kano to a brothel in Abuja without the consent of her parents where he and other men had illicit intercourse with her thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 15(a) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.

Dalhatu Gambo and Nuhu Ahmad were found guilty on the three Count- Charge preferred against them and were sentenced to 3 years each on each of the 3 counts. A Russian man, Nikolai Zyablikov has asked a court in the city of Krasnoyarsk to make his former partner Nina Zgurskaya pay him back 40,000 rubles ($607) money he spent on her during their relationship. The court, off course rejected his suit to get back the money, according to a report from Russia's Center Krasnoyarsk.

Zyablikov, a lawyer, said that he and his ex had dated for just a short time and were just friends when they went on a beach trip to Crimea, the peninsula annexed by Russia in early 2014, last year.

She refused to pay for her part of the vacation when they returned to Siberia, he said. According to Zyablikov he was surprised when she suggested that they weren't in a relationship after dating for four years. Troops of 114 Task Force Battalion of 28 Task Force Brigade during a recent operation came across 43 persons that escaped from one of the Boko Haram terrorists hideouts in Madube. The escapees comprised of 10 men, 14 women and 19 children. They are currently being screened and profiled at the Battalion Headquarters. Similarly, troops of 115 Task Force Battalion of the same Brigade, in conjunction with some vigilante groups carried out patrols to Pegana, Joma, Wambiyar, Dille, Pumpum, Zah, Miya and Pugula communities and cleared them of Boko Haram terrorists.

Doctors in India have miraculously saved the eye of a boy that had been pierced by an iron hook used in meat butchers.

According to Dailymail, 12-year-old Md Baba Qureshi, from Hyderabad, in southern India, was playing at a butchery when the hook – used to hang up mutton in traditional Indian meat stores – suddenly pierced his left eye and entered his brain.

The thick rod had entered his orbit cavity but his eyeball remained intact. It had also penetrated 15cm deep into his brain. He remained conscious throughout but his eye was bleeding profusely and he was crying in pain.

While his family quickly rushed him to Osmania General Hospital, in Hyderabad, there was a risk he could either lose his eye or be brain damaged.

It has been confidently revealed that Page owns Zee.Aero Inc., some of whose employees running inti 150 hold test on prototype aircraft in rural California, as well as a smaller startup tagged Kitty Hawk which is ambitiously bent on realizing its own design for a flying car.

According to Bloomberg, Larry Page has spent over $100m funding these two start-ups as he hopes to realize his unique dreams of a flying car.

Now one California postgrad has applied that principle to something actually useful: a battery that lasts forever.

While “playing around” during an experiment with highly conductive battery components called nanowires, UC Irvine student Mya Le Thai coated one of the golden wires in a Plexiglass-like gel.

WASHINGTON — The F.B.I. has significantly increased its use of stings in terrorism cases, employing agents and informants to pose as jihadists, bomb makers, gun dealers or online “friends” in hundreds of investigations into Americans suspected of supporting the Islamic State, records and interviews show.

Undercover operations, once seen as a last resort, are now used in about two of every three prosecutions involving people suspected of supporting the Islamic State, a sharp rise in the span of just two years, according to a New York Times analysis. Charges have been brought against nearly 90 Americans believed to be linked to the group.
