The competition is a good introduction into the undergraduate community. It should facilitate unity and healthy academic competition. But I hope people will not come up and begin to use this as a yardstick for comparing and ranking Nigerian universities. So many such unhealthy and baseless rankings have put some great universities into obscurity, and their graduates feel the effect the most. For one, this webometrics ranking is something I long felt some intelligent person should have kicked against. I always have wondered how webometrics ranking (ranking of universities based on web presence using web analytics) has got anything to do with the standard of an academic institution. The whole thing spews out the ignorance of many so-called academics who have accepted webometrics as a worthy criterion for ranking. It is very displeasing. I hope someone some-day can stand-up, come out, and speak strongly against this webometric ranking. If any ranking based on academic capacity of students, research, students access to facilities for academic research, and so on, were used, then we could gladly accept that finally Nigerian universities are being duly ranked. Great universities like University of Nigeria, Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Ahmadu Bello University, Kogi State University (see citation : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kogi_State_University) have been denied their right place of respect and appreciation. But that doesn't limit their standards. |

Infrastructure is a small component of what makes up a university. Intellectual impartation and preparation for university-aftermath is primary. |
