These are just a few of the many damaging statements we hear often from some wives in moments of anger, bitterness, or while trying to score sympathy from others. But how many of them are really true?

And even if they are partially true, is complete erasure and ingratitude justified?

Some women, out of frustration or desire to paint their husbands in a bad light, ignore years of effort, sacrifices, and struggles that those same men made to keep the home standing.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ once said:

“I was shown the Hellfire and found that the majority of its dwellers were women.”
The companions asked, “Why, O Messenger of Allah?”
He said, “Because of their ingratitude.”
It was said, “Are they ungrateful to Allah?”
He replied, “They are ungrateful to their husbands and deny the good done to them. Even if you do good to one of them for a lifetime, then she sees something (she dislikes), she will say: ‘I have never seen any good from you!’”
(Sahih al-Bukhari 29, Muslim 907)

Subhāna’Llāh! What a frightening consequence for something that may seem as small as words yet the pain it causes, the injustice it inflicts, and the lies it spreads, are enough to anger the One who sees all.

I once came across a story of a woman who constantly told people her husband was wicked that he never provided, never loved her, and never cared. Her friends believed her.

But when the man died, and reality hit, she discovered that no one was ready to bankroll her sorrows. The man who had sheltered, fed, and clothed her for years even if imperfectly was gone. Her fabricated image of him couldn’t provide. She was left in regret, and only then admitted that she exaggerated and lied. But it was too late.

Gratitude Is a Sign of Īmān
Allah says:

“If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]...”
(Surah Ibrahim, 14:7)


Let us all women and men learn to appreciate the little, praise the efforts, and pray for the one we married.

Marriage is not always 50/50; sometimes it's 80/20, sometimes 100/0 and only Allah knows the burdens each one silently carries.

If your husband truly does wrong, seek solutions with wisdom. But don’t lie. Don’t exaggerate. And don’t turn people’s hearts against the one who might be doing his best in difficult times.

Let us learn to say: “Jazaakallahu Khayran, may Allah continue to bless you for all that you do.”

Even if it's small gratitude invites barakah.

May Allah grant us tongues that are truthful, hearts that are grateful, and homes that are full of mercy and peace.
