Science/TechnologySamsung Will Reportedly Launch A Foldable Screen Phone - See Date by Lukastech(op): 8:18pm On Jul 26, 2018
The news and reports of a foldable smartphone has been going round for quite a long time now.

But Samsung has finally disclosed that it will be unveiling one early next year, and it has already been dubbed “winner” according to a tip-off by the Wall Street Journal.

The same source goes further to provide us with the rumored specs for the phone: It is expected that this foldable device will sport a folding screen of 7 inches when opened fully, where the screen can also be completely folded in two. A "small display bar" will be placed at one side, and the camera on the other side when the phone is folded that into half.

Unlike the ZTE Axon M which actually folds but uses hinges, the technology used in this Samsung model is expected to be different from that of the former which makes analyst believe that the phone will be priced at around $1,500.

Samsung will likely first produce the phones in small quantities to see how it would be welcomed in the market. Many are still skeptical about this new foldable phone to be unveiled by Samsung.

Kindly share and drop what do you have to say about this.

Nowadays even organizations use it to connect with customers, Sometimes customers have frequently asked questions.

Setting up predefined answers to these common questions on WhatsApp can help the business going.

This comes as part of the upgrade on WhatsApp, but for a mod version of the app, called – GBWhatsApp.

Science/TechnologyNCC Implements Data Roll-over Policy, Mtn Complies by Lukastech(op): 11:31pm On Jun 29, 2018
NCC Implements Data Roll-Over Policy, Mtn Complies
NCC-Data-Rollover-Policy

Barring any unforeseen circumstance, millions of internet users in Nigeria would this week start enjoying the benefit of rolling over unused data which they could not exhaust at the original expiry date following the introduction of the Data Roll-Over policy by the National Communications Commission (NCC).

According to the NCC, the Data Roll-Over policy would come into effect this week following complaints from millions of data subscribers that they were being short-changed by internet service providers as a result of the non- implementation of the policy in the country.

The official statistics provided by the NCC as at year showed internet users in Nigeria were in the region of between 98.3 million and 149.3 million, connected to mobile telecommunications, with players in the industry predicting steady growth of mobile telecommunications subscribers.

Delivering his address at the 39th edition of Consumer Town Hall Meeting (CTM), in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State, the Deputy Director, Consumer Affairs Bureau, Alhaji Ismail Adedigba, said the Data Roll-Over policy was among the latest in the recent directives introduced by the telecommunications regulatory body to ensure that subscribers enjoy the worth of what they subscribed to.

“As you may be aware, the Commission has been inundated with various complaints such as:

Unsolicited text messages and calls; Failure/refusal to roll over unused data at the expiration and activation/subscription to data and value-added services (VAS), without prior consent of the subscriber, among others.

“In response to the above major

complaints, the Commission, as

consumer-centric institution has taken appreciate steps such as:

Development of 2442 DND Short Code to solve unsolicited text messages/calls; Issuance of directives to Service Providers on Data Roll-over which now enabled consumers to roll over unused data for period of time, ranging from 1 day to 7 days , depending on your data plan.

This takes effect from 26th of June, 2018.

“Issuance of directives to Service Providers on forceful subscription of data and Value Added Services (VAS) which directs Service Providers to resist from forceful/automatic renewal of data services without prior consent of subscribers. This has taken effect from 21st of May, 2018.

“The Commission also developed 622 Toll-Free Line through which you can easily lodge complaints for any unresolved service issues to the NCC,” Adedigba said.

Adedigba added that the CTM in

Akpabuyo was one in the series of such endeavours lined-up to educate Nigerians and protect consumers from , what the Commission views as "unwholesome practices by some service providers.”

He said the programme was to enable a “tripartite meeting of the Regulators, Operators and Consumer to resolve pressing consumer issues with respect to provision of telecom services.”

Adedigba said that, so far, adequate steps had been taken to regulate illegalities and violation of consumer’s right by some service providers, and that in future more policies aimed at protecting the customer would be rolled out to further protect telecommunications subscribers.

Meanwhile, In Another New Development;

MTN has decided to take the lead as the first telecom operators to implement the NCC new policy.

As we know that MTN data rollover feature is only applicable to monthly plans, but due to NCC new rules, MTN has added rollover features to their daily and weekly plan.

Also, introduced grace/rollover period on their monthly data plan for you to get more value on your Mobile Internet plans.

Data Category Validity

Daily bundles 1 Days

Weekly bundles 3 Days

Monthly bundles 7 Days

How It Works?

Daily Bundle: If you have subscribed to a daily plan on June 26, the expiry day is June 27 but you will still have another 24 hours to subscribe – June 28 – as Grace Period.

Weekly Bundle: For weekly bundle, you have an extra 3 days to subscribe a new bundle before your data balance is wiped out.

Monthly Bundle: For monthly bundle, you have an extra 7 days to subscribe a new bundle before your data balance is wiped out.

Note: Your data is expected to still be working during this Grace Period.

NCC said that all telecoms operators must henceforth give a 14-day window to subscribers, after the expiration of their monthly data subscriptions, to exhaust their unused data bundle before rolling over. Now, MTN shows up with just 7 days grace period.

What do you have to say about this?

Dog you think these people want to make us forget the increment in data they promised us?? It won't work that way but nevertheless we pray this new policy works for the good of everyone and also pray that other networks partake in this Grace deal.

Kindly Share and comment.

InvestmentOpera News Hits 10m Downloads In Africa by Lukastech(op): 5:59am On Jun 27, 2018
SOURCE: https://www.lukastech.com.ng/2018/06/opera-news-hits-10m-downloads-in-africa.html

In six months since its launch in Africa, Opera News, a dedicated news app created by Norwegian browser development company, Opera Software, has reached 10 million downloads.

According to AppAnnie, a firm that collects and analyses market data on mobile apps, Opera News is now the most downloaded news app in Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, SA and Tanzania.

Opera News is a free app that works by delivering real-time AI (artificial intelligence) curated news in a variety of formats to users; it also gets smarter with each use as it learns preferred news.

The app was received well when it first launched, and was downloaded one million times in Africa in its first month.

However, the company attributes its recent exponential success to a recent update to the app that included a football World Cup channel and other football-related features.

These features allow fans to keep up to date with the results of matches, follow live scores, as well as tables and fixtures of the group stage and the knockout stage.

“Africa is crazy about football and so are we. That’s why it’s a pleasure to update Opera News with features designed for football World Cup fans,” says Jorgen Arnesen, global head of marketing and distribution at Opera.

The app also lets users follow their favourite teams to get a more tailored experience within the app.

“The app becomes more and more personal and makes it easier for users to find all the information they need about their favourite teams,” says Arnesen.

Last year, Opera Software announced it will invest $100 million (around R1.3 billion) over two years to facilitate the growth of the African digital economy.

The company said it will use the money to speed up Internet adoption in Africa and strengthen the Internet ecosystem with local partners.

Nine out of the top 20 Opera Mini (the company’s Web browser product) user countries are from Africa.

Opera News was created not to be burden on the user’s phone and save storage space on devices. The app was also apparently built to be low on mobile data consumption, even when users watch video.

Users are able to download news pieces while using public WiFi and read the stories offline later when they do not have access to the Internet.

Opera News is available to download from the Google Play store, and supports 16 languages.

Phones10 Useful Google Tricks And Secrets You Need To Know About by Lukastech(op): 6:36am On Jun 26, 2018

10 Useful Google Tricks And Secrets You Need To Know About

Think you know Google? Think again! In this article, Beauty and Tips takes a look at 10 useful Google tricks and secrets you might be interested to know about.

Google is the most popular search engine in the world. It didn’t even exist just over twenty years ago, yet many of us wouldn’t know what to do if it was suddenly taken away from us. Bing anyone?

We use Google to find information, entertainment, pictures of cats chasing dogs (just us?) and all kinds of stuff on the Internet, and some even use it to make money and get rich.

Google is amazing and it’s worth a whopping $527,000,000,000! But despite us using it every single day of our lives, how come there are things about it we’re still not aware of!? Let’s take a look at 10 useful Google tricks and secrets you need to know about.

√ Use Quotes To Be More Specific

If you’re searching for something really, really specific, simply typing it into Google won’t always help.

For example, if you’re looking for “black leather jacket worn by James Dean,” your search will yield lots of related results that contain those words – but they won’t necessarily be in that order.

To be ultra specific with your search and return results exactly as you write them in the search engine, you need to wrap quotes around your words. Example: “Black leather jacket worn by James Dean.”

Using quotes helps you find the exact info you’re looking for that might otherwise be obscured by lots of other useless info.

√ Finding Related Sites

Got a website or blog you really like and wished there were similar blogs? It’s actually easy to find them using one of simple, yet little known Google tricks and secrets.

Let’s say there is a technology blogger you love, but you want more. Unfortunately, he/she can’t give you more. The next best thing? Find someone similar to him/her! All you need to do is type the word “related” before the website in question.

For example, it would look like this: related:lukastech. You can do it with whatever website you like and see what comes up.

Tip: There is no other website quite like ours!

× How To Look For A Word You Can’t Recall

Ever found yourself struggling to remember the exact wording of the thing you’re looking for? For example, let’s say there is a song you love – but you can’t remember the words. In fact, all you can remember are two or three of them.

It’s maddeningly frustrating because Google won’t return the results you want unless you know exactly what you’re searching for, right? Well, actually … If you use the asterisk symbol in place of a word you can’t remember, Google is clever enough to fill in the gaps. For example: Hit me baby one ***

The missing words are, of course, “more time.”

By using the asterisk three times, you’re telling Google you need help with those three words. As long as you know some of what you’re looking for, Google can help.

√ But What Do You Do When Lots Of Words Are Missing?

Okay sure. There will come a time when a few words are missing.

However, Google can still help. You do need to know at least the first and last word of the phrase you’re looking for, though. For example, if you’re looking for “Wandered lonely as a cloud,” you need to know both “wandered” and “cloud.”

Then, all you need to do is place the word AROUND between the first and last word, as well as the number of missing words. It will look like this: “Wandered AROUND(4) cloud.” Looks really weird. But works.

√ Use The Hyphen To Avoid Content You Don’t Want

The trouble with the English language is that some words have two, three or maybe even four different meanings.

Especially in our modern world. For example, take the word Apple.

Apple is a fruit, but it’s also the name of one of the world’s biggest corporations. Type apple into Google, and you’re going to get results for both the fruit and the company that makes the iPhone.

A really easy way to filter out content you don’t want to see is by using a hyphen.

For example, if you’re searching for Apple the brand and don’t want to see results for the fruit, type this: Apple -Fruit (hyphen should be close to the word fruit ). Google will then exclude all results that contain the word Fruit.

√ Eliminate Unimportant Keywords

Isn’t it annoying when you search for something, and a load of irrelevant stuff comes up? For example, let’s say you wanted to find some interesting books but

didn’t want to buy them.

Typing “interesting books”, however, will probably direct you to lots of sites where you can buy the book from. So what do you do? You use a minus sign to tell Google to discard a certain keyword.

Example: “interesting books -buy.”

√ Use A Colon To Find Results From Just One Site

Looking for an article from one particular site? You could type in something like this: Wayne Rooney BBC Sport Football. Frustratingly, however, this won’t work. Google will still produce results from lots of different websites.

Instead, if there is a specific article you’re looking for from a specific website, you need to use a colon to separate the topic and the website.

Example: Wayne Rooney site:bbc.co.uk/football. Type this into Google and only results from that particular website will show up.

√ Find Events From A Specific Period Of Time

Want to find the best art in the 19th century? Google lets you put a timeframe on your search results.

For example, if you wanted to find the best art in the 19th century, you can type “best art 1800…1900” into Google. You can be more specific, too. Try this: “Best art 1850…1900.” It totally works!

√ Use Synonyms

.Lastly, if you’re not looking for a specific phrase but want to find a lot of websites related to a particular subject, you can refine your search like the one below: “healthy ~food”.

√ Compare Phone Specs With a Quick Google Search

In the market for a new phone? Google just made it super easy to compare device specs. Now, typing something like ‘Google Pixel 2 XL vs iPhone X’ into search will bring up a table comparing specs and customer reviews for various devices.

What are your favourite Google tricks and secrets?

PhonesNCC To Increase Price Of Data To 250MB For N1000 by Lukastech(op): 5:35am On Jun 25, 2018
NCC to Increase Price of Data to 250MB for N1000
NCC to Increase Data Tariff

Way back in the month of May, there were reports that the prices for data bundles and calls will be increased if Section 24 of cybercrime 2015 Act is implemented.

Now, the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) is preparing a data price list which will be released soon, as confirmed by the Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Prof. Umar Danbatta.

If the Cybercrime Prohibition and Prevention Act 2015 are eventually implemented, it won't be funny at all because we'll be paying upto 4 times more than what we're paying now for monthly data.

We’ll likely be getting 250MB for N1000 with 30 days validity and 10MB data plan at N100 to last you for a day, while calls may be charged at 1naira/sec.

The new price may not correspond exactly with the one stated above, but what is sure is that it'll increase and you shouldn't expect anything cheaper than what you're currently paying for data.

We've seen so many weird steps the government in some African countries use to regulate internet usage; like the Ugandans who pay tax of 200 shillings daily just to access social media , and many other crazy stuffs like that.

It seems Nigeria is also heading to that direction, and despite the recent complaints by subscribers that data bundles are expensive, the NCC wants to add salt to the wound by further increasing it. Professor Danbatta made the disclosure on Thursday during his induction as a Fellow of the Nigeria Academy of Engineering (NAE).

Do you think this can work in Nigeria?? As for me, I'll air out if it is been implemented. 

Kindly Share and drop comments let's know your stand.

Nairaland GeneralHow To Detect (and Avoid) Fake Android Apps In The Play Store by Lukastech(op): 9:16pm On Feb 20, 2018
Fake Android apps in the Play Store are a problem. People create listings designed to look exactly like popular apps, often using the same icon and name, to trick you into downloading it—then bombarding you with ads (or worse, malware).

This issue has been especially prominent lately. A fake version of WhatsApp was downloaded by more than one million people last year, and just this week Reddit’s /r/android community found a fake version of the popular SwiftKey keyboard and an ad-riddled version of VLC on the Play Store. The first two were removed after making headlines, and while Google was initially reluctant to remove the faux-VLC app, it was finally taken down last night after being at the top of the Android subreddit all day. Good work, you guys!

These types of apps are not something to take lightly. Behind the scenes, they’re often doing some very gnarly stuff —like stealing all of your personal info, tracking every move you make, or even worse. ABC News actually did a good analysis of what fake apps are capable of —it’s worth a watch.

So how do these fake apps trick so many people, and what can you do about it?

How These Fake Apps Trick Users

That fake version of WhatsApp—arguably one of the most successful fake apps yet—was nearly indistinguishable from the real thing. Even the developer name was visually identical. The fraudulent company placed a special hidden character at the end of the developer name , which made look like “WhatsApp Inc.”, but it was technically different thanks to the hidden whitespace at the end of the name. Very clever.

And again, that app was downloaded over a million times before Google removed it from the Play Store. It was so successful because it was so similar to the real WhatsApp listing—the icon, verbiage, and developer name were all similar enough that many users didn’t even raise an eyebrow.

The aforementioned VLC ripoff is a bit different. It’s using VLC’s open-source code and Media Player Classic’s icon, and has over five million downloads . The “developer” here did little more than take a popular (open source) player, load it with ads, then use another player’s icon.

Nairaland GeneralHow To Factory Reset Your Android Phone When It Won't Boot by Lukastech(op): 2:42pm On Feb 17, 2018
Android phones are extremely customizable and they give you the freedom to experiment to your heart’s desire. One inevitable side effect of this freedom, however, is that sometimes your phone encounters a problem or two. Maybe it won’t boot or maybe it randomly shuts down. Maybe you lost a critical file and now some features won’t work. Fortunately, there are ways around it

Safe mode can help you troubleshoot your Android, but sometimes you’ll need to wipe everything and restore your device to its factory state.

But if you can’t perform a normal factory reset–say, if your phone won’t boot properly–you can do it through Android’s recovery environment.

Ensure you have any important data backed up before doing a reset. This includes your Google Authenticator credentials, which will be lost during the reset. Disable two-factor authentication on your accounts first or you’ll experience some trouble afterward.

If safe mode doesn’t help fix your device, you can perform a hard reset by booting into a special recovery mode. First, ensure your device is fully shut down.

Kindly follow this steps to factory reset your Android/Tablet

Nairaland General6 Useful Android Settings You Need To Know About by Lukastech(op): 12:49am On Feb 12, 2018
If you’ve been an Android user for several years, you might think you know the Android settings menu inside out. After all, there’s no way you’d have accidentally overlooked a useful option, right?

Unfortunately, you probably have overlooked something. These days, the Android settings menu is a sprawling maze of menu and sub-menus. It’s hard to find the more obscure options.

But which of the settings you’ve overlooked are useful, and which can live on in peaceful obscurity? Let’s find out. (Depending on your device’s manufacturer, some of these settings might not be available.)

1. Screen Magnification
Do you ever come across a really small font or tiny picture while you’re browsing the web?

If you’re using a browser on a desktop machine, it’s easy to zoom in and take a closer look. And, of course, Windows and macOS both offer a robust set of accessibility tools.

On mobile, it’s a different story. Some web pages allow you to use the pinch-to-zoom gesture, whereas others aren’t compatible with the feature. It all depends on how the site is coded.

Android offers a solution. Open the Settings app and navigate to Accessibility > System > Magnification Gesture and slide the toggle into the On position.

When enabled, triple-tap the screen to zoom in, and navigate by dragging two fingers around the display. You can adjust the level of zoom by pinching. Triple-tap again to return to the standard view.

Alternatively, triple-tap the screen and keep your finger pressed down on the third tap. It will temporarily zoom the screen until you release your finger.

2. Invert Screen Colors
The accessibility menu offers a couple of other useful features that we’ll look at. Firstly, let’s check out how to invert your screen’s colors.

For someone with a visual impairment, this has obvious advantages. But it’s also useful for everyone else.

Just think, how many times have you wished an app had a “dark” theme? And how many times have you given yourself sore eyes because you’ve used a bright screen in a dark room? Sure, there are third-party apps that can alter your screen’s color temperature, but this is an easy-to-use native alternative.

Nairaland GeneralAcquiring The Whatsapp Verification Badge by Lukastech(op): 10:27pm On Feb 11, 2018
Ending of the last month, WhatsApp Business App was made available for download in all countries, helping a lot of business owners communicate with their customers. It also helps separate your personal and professional life, but a factor needed to fully accomplish this is the WhatsApp Business Verification Badge.

Since the release of the app, there have been on major question among users which is "How can I get the WhatsApp Verification Badge?".

As we all know the importance of this badge as it helps to confirm the authenticity of a business, thus, building trust with its customers. But getting it can be a bit complicated.

According to WhatsApp Business
FAQ, the verification is currently limited to a small number of businesses participating in a pilot program. However, a user who contacted the company support team for the same reason got a rather contradicting response which reads:

“ Hi,
Sorry for the delay! We have received many emails recently, and we do our best to answer them all. thank you for your patience.
whatsapp follows a process if a business can confirmed or verified. There is no action you need to take to be considered for either account type. We will automatically review your business information on an ongoing basis.
If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us. ”
The reply shows that checks on your WhatsApp Business account will be made regularly to know if it's qualified to get the verified badge. If you've gotten the badge, feel free to tell us your experience.
