Which Igbo people are supposedly “dominating” Nollywood? Please, let’s deal with facts instead of comforting myths.

First, the richest and most commercially successful actress in Nigeria today is Funke Akindele—a Yoruba woman. She isn’t just successful; she has practically turned the Nigerian box office into her personal playground. Her film A Tribe Called Judah became the first Nollywood movie to cross the ₦1-billion mark at the Nigerian box office. Before that, she already broke records with Omo Ghetto: The Saga and Battle on Buka Street. In other words, the same Yoruba actress keeps breaking the records over and over again. And that’s just one person.

Look at the films dominating streaming platforms. Movies rooted in Yoruba history and culture like Jagun Jagun and Aníkúlápó have pulled massive global audiences and trended internationally.

Then look at the powerhouse filmmakers behind many of these successes—people like Kunle Afolayan, Femi Adebayo, Odunlade Adekola, and Toyin Abraham—all major drivers of Nollywood’s most commercially successful productions.

So again, which “Igbo domination” are we talking about? When the biggest box-office records are being set by Yoruba filmmakers, when Yoruba cultural epics are dominating cinemas and streaming platforms, and when some of the industry’s most influential stars are Yoruba, the claim that Igbo people dominate Nollywood starts to sound less like a fact and more like wishful thinking.

Keep living in your own illusion, the fact still remains

Let’s be honest: Nollywood is a national industry with contributions from many groups. But if we’re talking about box-office power, cultural influence, and record-breaking productions, the Yoruba footprint is simply impossible to match by the igbos.

So please—stop deceiving yourself. The scoreboard is right there for everyone to see.

Those people you mentioned came from SouthSouth but grew up in Ajegunle or relocated to lagos.

Fact is fact, no matter how it is twisted. Before Living in Bondage, There were already several celluloid film makers in the southwest like Hubert Ogunde, Duro Ladipupo, Moses Olaiya (Baba Sala) etc. Yoruba culture aligns with parties and entertainment on weekends, hence why there are more successful traditional musicians always busy on weekends. Even the mushroom ones.
Yorubas patronize musicians and entertainment generally much more than other tribes in Nigeria due to cultural reasons.

For me i think this music thing has evolve, there was a time when the music industry in nigeria was dominated by artist from the south south, especialy from delta, people like, daddy showkey, baba frayo, blacky, oriz wiliki, mike okri, just to mention a few, even during the time of konto, and galala, south south dominated.
But now the yorubas dominate afrobeat while the igbos domiinate nollywood,
Things change, the only thing thats constant is change.

Ordinary i won't have replied anymore, but for the sake of those not grounded in faith, who are also reading your comments. I will for the very last time summarise and also simplify most of those questions you have raised. The debate surrounding death, life, hell, grave, eternal life, hell, hellfire etc.

(1) Relationship between death and hell
Hell (in English) original means place underneath the ground where the dead is buried (grave), however, in biblical and spiritual terms, hell is referred to a place underneath the ground also, a place of torment for sinners (temporary place pending the final judgment)
Understand these terms with wisdom.
Read further
Psalm 6:5, 9:17, 30:3;
Numbers 16:30,33
Isa 14 v 9
Prov 15 v 4
Eup 4 v 9
Rev 1 v 18
From these we can see that hell is beneath, grave is also beneath, hell is a place of death, whoever have Christ(life) will not face death (hell), so hell is death.

(2) Before the death of our Lord Jesus Christ, anyone who dies goes to hell(death)

The rich man, lazarus and Abraham were all in hell, same place (hell) but different compartment.
Abraham and Lazarus were up, while the rich man was beneath, that was the reason the rich man had to look up on sighting lazurus and also was able to speak to him. They were all in one place but different positions. It was so obvious that the anguish was for only those underneath (the place the rich man was)

3: Why do the righteous had to die and also go to hell

From the beginning, man sinned and the punishment for sin is death (hell),
So no matter how righteous one live, we were all cursed to experience death (hell). The coming of Jesus Christ changed that narrative.

4. Jesus Christ to the rescue.

Before the coming of our lord jesus Christ, whoever dies goes to hell ( death, grave), thats so because man has sinned and the punishment of sin is death (hell). Rom 6 v 23
Now Jesus came, was crusified and died just to take our sins away, so whoever dies no longer have to face death (go to hell) but have evalasting life ( eternal life - life after death of the body.)
When Christ died, Christ himself had to goto hell(death), because he was 100% Man, and same time 100% God.

Yes, he went beneath to take the key of the gate of hell(death), Rev 1 v 18
and that whoever believes in him will not die( go to hell) but have everlasting life( eternal life).

5: So what does God actually wants from us.
If you say, for man to praise God at all times, to worship him, to live an holy life, you are not far from the truth.
But i will tell you one thing God really want from us.
Man sinned and was cursed ( death/ hell ), but God so love the world, that he had to made a sacrifice for our sake so that the cursed on man can be reversed.
So this is God (the son) saying , believe in me, DON'T DIE, but live( have eternal life) , thats whats so important to God, and that's what he really requires from us.

6. Difference between HELL and LAKE OF FIRE (HELL FIRE)
Hell ( death, grave, or biblical meaning of the place of temporary punishment for sinners, )
After the death and resurrection of Christ, Christians no longer goto hell(death) but paradise. The curse of death has been lifted away by christ.

Hell fire is a place that will be prepared by God for the devil, his agents and followers, AFTER the final judgment.
Death and hell will be casted into the lake of fire ( hell fire) to be destroyed forever.

Lol eccl 9 v 10, is simply saying whatever you are to do right now while you are still alive do it now, because you cant do it when you're dead. Sometimes when you read the bible you pray for wisdom and understanding, you dont just read it english word to word and feel you can understand

Go do your research about Gehenna, it originally means something else, but biblically its refere to hell, and i have told you before hell is different from hell fire.. hellfire or lake of fire will be prepared by God himself, to cast the devil, his agents and those who follow them

I'm only putting to your knowledge that even at death, when the brain is decayed, the spirit man still have memories, that was why the rich man made a request that his family on earth should be preached to, so they wont die and go to hell also. He still had memories of having family members on earth still living in sin.

One someone dies the body decays, the earthly body cannot go beyond this world. What did bible actually mean by saying fear God who can destroy both the body and soul in hell is as simple as abc, fear not human and devilish agents who can destroy only the body, but fear God who can destroy both the body and the soul in hell.

Hell fire is not in existence now, untill after the final judgment, when hell fire will be created to cast the devil and all his followers.

Do your research more on these term,
Do also more research on the difference between hell and hell fire.

.when you dream you can feel thirsty too, or feel anyway the physical body can feel in your dreams, that doesn't mean your physical body is there in the Dreamworld, same thing happens in the spiritual world too. The rich man was dead, but he still had memories of his physical life on earth, memories that he still had families here on earth who are still living in sin.

1st question: luke 16 was talking about the parable of the rich man and Lazarus, sure the body remains in the earth and decays, the body cant go with the spirit and soul after death. The rich man was in torment with the feeling of thirst, even if he sees water, can spirit drink water? No. When we dream sometime we see ourselves doing things like eating, etc but that doesn't mean the food we eat or whatever happens there affects the physical body.
So in the case of the rich man, its not that physical body.

2nd question. Normally the physical body dies and decays in hell (grave), and the soul that sinneth also goes to hell .
That bible verse is telling you to fear only God who cannot only destroy the body

3rd question, rev 20 v14 is talking about the final judgment, where those who are condemned in hell will cast in the lake of fire, hell is different from hell fire. Hell fire is not in existence now till after the final judgment after the reign of Christ for 1,000 years.

John 3 v 16 explains it all, depends on the death you're talking about, but the death of the body is not the real death, the death of the soul is the real death. Christians dont die, they leave forever, if you take that opportunity to have Jesus, he gives you life, and you never die. Those without christ, who goes to hell are the ones that die. Because hell is death.
