UKRAINE-RUSSIA WAR; A BRUTAL LESSON IN GEOPOLITICS AND WAR HISTORY

The war in Ukraine has claimed millions of lives and brought chaos into the doorstep of western Europe once again ever since the balkanization of Yugoslavia.

To my fellow readers, Yorubas and non Yorubas, I will beg you to leave emotions and humbly learn what Gorbachev called "realpolitik", we call it Geopolitics. Geopolitics is war, history, politics and conquest. To understand it, is to crack the code of how our world works, therefore I am begging us to please use Ukraine-Russia scenario as an opportunity to decolonize our weak and naive minds as black Africans. Before we start this brief intellectual journey, I will like to State it categorically that I am not pro Russia or pro West, I am just an African pouring out my thoughts as regards the future of our world.

The world is divided into two blocs namely;
1. The Superpowers
2. and the rest of us.

Who are the Superpowers? Superpowers are regional or global bullies. They use their soft and brutal power to crush lesser empires and lesser countries. That has always been the way of the world from the time of Babylon to the times of the Ummayid caliphate till this present moment.
We saw what Trump did by unilaterally renaming the more 300 years old Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. That's the definition of Superpowers! Can Germany or UK try that in 2025? No! But America can do it, Russia can try it and China can dare it. The three powers are regional superpowers!

Ever since the fall of the USSR, we only had one Unipolar power in the world which was the United States of America. USA was able to use her economic power to turn European colonial powers into vassals of America. It created NATO and other proxy organization to build an American empire.
The rise of China has created a rival super power that is far more capable than USSR. The emergence of Putin has also led to the rise of a resurgent Russia which is slowly rebuilding its Russian empire brick by brick.

Ukraine is the European country sitting on the black sea which has a considerable ethnic Russian population in its Eastern axis. The politics of Ukraine is tored between pro Russian elements versus pro Western elements.

Ukraine and Russia are the bread and food baskets of the world and Europe especially. Cheap Russian Gas and cheap steels and other goods from Ukraine has been one of the things sustaining the prosperity of Europe.

This are my postulations as regards to the whole scenario;
1. European powers underestimated the military and economic resilience of Putin and they thought they could Ukraine another Slavic powerhouse to cannibalise Russia.
2. They thought Russia will be afraid to confront NATO in Ukraine.
3. They expected an internal coup detat to destroy Russia from within because of the cost of the war on Russia but Russia was able to build a powerful war time economy that wasn't expected at all.

Now let's talk about what Ukraine lost in this war-
1. 1/4 of the population of Ukraine have left the country as refugees permanently and might never return to Ukraine till eternity.
2. Ukraine has lost nearly 25 percent of its land mass to Russia.
3. Eastern Ukraine is like the Lagos and Niger Delta of Ukraine. Russia has taken it away from Ukraine.
4. Ukraine has lost 80 percent of its sea access to the black sea meaning that Ukraine is almost transforming from a coastal sea powerhouse in 2021 to a landlocked country in 2025.
5. 60 percent of the mineral resources in Ukraine is now in the hands of Russia.
6. Nearly 1 million Ukrainans have lost their lives.
7. Western multinational corporations have bought nearly 60 percent of the remaining fertile soil in Ukraine as a compensation for assisting Ukraine in the war.
8. The less than 40 percent mineral resources in Ukraine has been sold out to USA as a collateral for loans during the war.
9. Russia now control almost the entirety of the black sea.

10. He who controls Eurasia will become an Empire and Russia understands this and they won this war.
11. Ukraine will not join NATO.
12. Ukraine will not join EU.
13. Ukraine will probably self implode after the war is over.

Conquest is a legal means to acquire land in the international rule of law. Israel took Golan height and Mount Hermon from Syria via war till today and nothing has happened.
Turkey stole Northern cyprus from Cyprus since the 1970s, nothing has happened and the world moved on.

This is the definition of power and Geopolitics.
I hope we learnt some lessons.
