Umahi, Soludo and all the other Southeastern politicians are only against Peter Obi because they want to be considered for VP in 2031. The problem is that APC will not consider someone from the Southeast as VP in 2031 if the party fails to get substantial votes from the region. They are however right in saying that the Southeast as a region will have to align with one other major region to get into power. The coalition presented the shortest and easiest possible path to bring that into fruition while having a foot in the corridor of power as VP but Obi chose to walk away to run solo. 4 years or even 8 years is a very short time in politics. When you play politics at the national level in a highly diverse country like Nigeria, you have to also put your regional interests into consideration. Otherwise, just go be a businessman or try other endeavours.

So in your warped thinking, Peter Obi's ability to convince Kwankwanso of all people to run with him does not represent an alliance with another region?

Obi is technically correct if he is talking about a line of credit. He needs to clarify this.

If so-called 'debts' were indeed lines of credit, then until they are drawn, you can't call it a loan. Even after you start drawing, only the amounts drawn convert to a loan. The rest simply stay on as credit lines.

But this concept should be easy to explain. Obi's explanations were a tad confusing.

I can tell you as finance professional with over 20 years experience that a loan only becomes binding after drawdown.

No bank avails a loan till the borrower meets the RAAC of the bank in question.

There is almost no bank offer letter without a section called "Conditions Precedent To Drawdown" just to emphasize that drawdown makes a loan.

If you negotiate a loan with a bank but fail to drawdown, the maximum the bank can do is to exact charges on you maybe as processing fees for the time and resources expended processing the loan.

In universal banking practice including relevant international conventions, no bank can compel a customer to drawdown on a loan even after loan applications were made because there is possibilities of contingency in liabilities.

You cannot be arguing with a man who has chaired one of Nigeria's biggest commercial banks: a man some of whose proteges have served as GMDs of banks .

A person can rise to a position of an academic professor in accounting or economic or any finance-related discipline and yet get embarrassed by a knowledgeable mid-level practicing banking professional...
