Federal Character Committee Engages Key Agencies on Equitable Recruitment and Compliance The House of Representatives Committee on Federal Character, chaired by the Deputy Speaker of the 9th House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, has engaged key government agencies as part of its ongoing oversight responsibilities to ensure compliance with the principles of federal character in recruitment and other areas within the Committee’s mandate. The Committee held engagements today with representatives of the following agencies: 1. Federal Housing Authority (FHA) 2. Independent System Operator (ISO) 3. Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC) The engagements focused primarily on the agencies’ recruitment processes and their adherence to the principles of equitable representation in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Character principle. The Committee also reviewed other activities of the agencies that fall within its constitutional oversight mandate, seeking to ascertain the extent to which federal character considerations are reflected in their operations, appointments, recruitment and other relevant activities. The Committee reiterated that such oversight engagements are essential to strengthening accountability, promoting national cohesion and ensuring that all Nigerians have a fair opportunity to participate in public service and benefit from government institutions. House Committee on Federal Character Condemns Continued Disregard for Parliamentary Oversight, Orders Immediate Suspension of NRS Recruitment The House of Representatives Committee on Federal Character, chaired by the Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, has strongly condemned what it described as the continued disregard for the constitutional authority of the National Assembly by the leadership of certain federal agencies. At today’s engagement with the Federal Character Commission (FCC), the Chairman of the Commission failed to appear before the committee, citing official travel and subsequently illness. The committee noted with deep concern that this latest absence follows a series of invitations and official communications that have not been honoured, describing the repeated failure to appear as unacceptable and inconsistent with the standards of accountability expected of public office holders. The committee also expressed serious concern over the actions of the Federal Character Commission regarding waivers granted to the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS). The committee recalled that it had expressly directed the Commission to refrain from granting any approvals or waivers to the NRS following the persistent refusal of its Executive Chairman, Dr. Zacch Adedeji, to honour invitations from the committee. Despite that directive, the committee discovered that waivers had nevertheless been issued. The committee described this development as a direct affront to the constitutional oversight responsibilities of the House of Representatives and a disturbing disregard for the authority vested in the National Assembly by the Nigerian people. Consequently, the committee has directed the Federal Character Commission, under the leadership of Hon. Ayo Hulayat Omidiran, to immediately suspend all recruitment activities being conducted by the Nigeria Revenue Service until its leadership appears before the committee to account for its actions and comply with the constitutional oversight process. Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase stated that the House of Representatives will not stand by while public institutions choose which constitutional directives to obey. He emphasized that legislative oversight is not optional, nor is it a matter of convenience for heads of government agencies. “The National Assembly is the voice of the Nigerian people. Its constitutional oversight powers are not symbolic, they are binding instruments of accountability. No agency, commission, or public official is above the Constitution or beyond the reach of parliamentary oversight.” The committee warned that persistent refusal by public officials to honour invitations from the House of Representatives sets a dangerous precedent, erodes public trust in democratic governance, and undermines the constitutional system of checks and balances that safeguards Nigeria’s democracy. The committee reaffirmed its resolve to deploy every constitutional and legislative mechanism available to ensure compliance with its lawful directives and to protect the integrity of the oversight responsibilities entrusted to it by the Nigerian people. The House Committee on Federal Character remains unwavering in its commitment to transparency, accountability, equity, and the rule of law, and will not relent until every public institution is held accountable in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. shareezey:In trying to choose which MDA to push for, most people only consider the salaries and allowances to help them make a choice; which is good, if you're only planning to work for a few years, retire and move on to other things. But if one is trying to build a career, the salary isn't the major factor to consider. It's advisable to go for an agency that operates within your field of study. If you're an engineer and you go to an agency that operates in the medical or even financial sector, there's a limit to your growth in such a field and there's no way you'll head the agency even if you stay for 35years. So aside monetary rewards, you need to decide what you want out of the opportunity before you make the choice of agency to gun for. May the Almighty help/guide us to make the best choices, and may He bless us with our dream jobs before the year runs out. |
OLATUNJIOHSA:I doubt. They've left ASCON yesterday. But I heard there'll be a batch B in few months to come. |

untoldtruth:You see those senators who do not offer jobs to their constituents? They most likely are selling their slots to their colleagues. That's why you see a senator offering around 20 offers at once. Or, they give the opportunity to their aids who in turn, sell it to the highest bidder whom may not even be a constituent. My advice is, if you can't get direct access to your senator, try getting close to his /her aids. That way, you'll get to know of opportunities so you can also bid for one. BUT!, You need to be very cautious cos a lot of people offering jobs for a fee are scammers. Allah ya rabamu dasu, ya bamu sa'a. |
