Politics › Re: NNPC: We Are Selling Petrol At Half The Landing Cost — But It Is Not Subsidy by Majesty7: 1:29pm On Aug 20, 2024 |
nairalanda1: We don't have electricity and petrol because we sell them below the market price, in the name of subsidy, and have been doing so since the 1970's.
The first warning signs were when we had fuel queues in 1976, and power cuts from 1978.
But since we 'had to help the poor' we continued.
The result...the power and petroleum sector depreciated because there wasn't enough profit in the system to fix and upgrade and maintain things at the same time.
Right now, power for most people is charged below the production cost of N160-170 per kwh, except for Band A people who pay N209 and above, and even then, government is planning to subsidise universites and hospitals on band A. Add the fact that band A people make up 20% of the customer base of our electriciity sector
Meaning our power sector loses money. ANd here is the scary thing, before the BAND A price increase , everyone paid below the production cost of a kwh of power. EVERYONE.
I haven't even mentioned things like massive power theft , among other things. And then the corruption which arises in part because since we don't pay the discos and gencos decent money, their workers supplement their income by bribes and so forth...including ilelgal conncections.
The result is the power sector has been operating at a chronic loss for decades...even now, government owes the sector N2 trn or more in unpaid subsidy costs. Let's not even talk about the debt owed by Nigerians.
Compare with the GSM sector who at least have some control over price setting....tell me, when was the last time you bribed an MTN worker to connect you to the network when your airtime ran dry?
Sell at a loss, operate at a loss. Feed a child one egg and two grains of rice a day, dont complain when the same child scores minus 40 in his end of term examinations.
You run something at a loss, issues start. You got it 95% wrong. I am just being gentle with your assertions. The only thing that you said and that is applicable to the private sector is not selling things on loss. However, you are TOTALLY wrong in regards to the government. Do you know what they call tax? Have you ever thought about that? Subsidy is done globally by every sane government to alleviate and make things easier for her citizenry. The government also tax and you think Government should tax and shouldn't subsidized? Try to weigh words, actions and deeds before your final submission. It will help you a lot. Now, in Nigeria case, the subsidy is even fraudulent because there is no subsidy in the first place. Can NNPC furnished us with cost and other logistics that made the petrol landing cost above 20cent? Nigeria is a fraudulent place. We don't refined our crude in Europe or America. We do that in a poorer countries and were able to produce cheap. NNPC claims to always import from Europe but can they show us prove? If that is true, why must they refined in Europe or richer countries? What happened to Libya, India and many other where they can refine cheaper and reduce landing cost? NNPC and the Nigerian government are scammers that should be dealt with |

MrBrownJay1: I will simply explain to her that the reason we are going on a date is to get to know each other, and the little i was gonna spend on that date (aka drink/snack or chop something) is for her to be comfortable as we get to know one another and discuss life and see if i want to see her again (or not) etc.... if she solely came to that date because of hunger (with stomach making hungry noise) and she is only looking to get out of there with my money so that she can go feed her family, then whats the point of her coming to the date (apart from my money)?! she is missing the whole point about what "A DATE" is.

InfoGuru118: The Nigeria Customs Service has announced guidelines for the implementation of a 150-day tariff waiver on selected staple foods.
https://news360ng.com/customs-launches-guidelines-for-free-import-on-food-items-full-list/ Customs have started again with wayo. Which one is, "husked brown rice"? Why not dehusked rice? Yes, we know that it is, husked *brown* rice but average Nigerian customs are illiterate and touts. They might attack the grain if the rice is not brown and called it polished rice. Polished rice is also dehusked but more processed than just, *husked brown rice*. Customs are wild, devilish and street smart. The government should please look into that and make corrections. Customs are just trying to be smart here. Secondly, what is all this bullshit about the need for importers to own a milling plant with a capacity of at least 100 tons per day, operate for at least four years and have enough farmland for cultivation? 100tons/pay is approximately 2000 bags (50kg) production per day. If we truly have mills that are already producing 2000 bags per day, do we need to import again? What sick country is this? |

Politics › Subsidy: IPMAN And The Nigerian Woes. by Majesty7(op): 9:05am On Aug 10, 2024 |
I have watched with interest and confusion how IPMAN has graduated into becoming the mouthpiece of NNPC. One sad thing I discovered about Nigerians is their inability to think. They use their mouth, throat and stomach to think and make decisions about their eternity. After their woes, they result to blaming each other. What an interestingly confused humans. IPMAN are the not the importer of PMS in Nigeria. How they are now become more familiar with landing cost of PMS than the importers makes me wonder and sometimes laughs at the folly of this country. Subsidy: 1. What is the ex:refinery prices of PMS in Libya, USA and Netherlands? I know NNPC who are the sole importer of PMS, *claims* to always import from two (2) out of the three (3) countries I mentioned above. 2. How did NNPC sometimes get their PMS stock? Is it by providing crude oil to these foreign refineries and getting refined gas as exchange or by just negotiating and buying without giving them any crude oil? If there is an exchange, how is it being calculated? 3. Why do NNPC prefer to refine in rich countries who has robust manpower wages than refining in poorer countries with less manpower wages thereby saving cost? 4. Why making landing cost only known to IPMAN? Why can't it be published by NNPC so as to make everything transparent? Tinubu should temporarily dissolve and house arrest all NNPC management responsible for PMS import and set up a responsible committee to handle few imports of PMS. They should explore refineries in India, Libya, EU and the US. Check cost of import, due diligence and shipments. Work with any responsible certifying agency to check quality of product. Let the committee first determines if there is anything called subsidy in the first place. Nigerians should learn how to fight!!! Thank you. Rakunmi |

Lovenorth: We must blame Tinubu for removing subsidy and transferring our fortune in the hands of his fellow useless politicians, if the subsidy is there, no need of any food disributions, citizens benefit directly There is no subsidy anywhere it is still the cabals playing games. Where is NNPC getting their fuel from? Europe? Nah, that is a lie. NNPC always gets cheap fuel while they now inflate figures and tell Nigerians they got it high. Dangote knew about it and was supposed to sell fuel less than 200/ltr but since NNPC are already claiming they buy high, that was the reason he also wanted to sell high. (Reason both of them are at logger heads). Only if Nigeria can issue out different license for people to import fuel by themselves and give everyone autonomy to dictate price without joining any useless union. I guarantee you fuel will be sold at less than #200/ltr Tinubu and every other Nigerian politicians are not yet ready for governance. However, in this situation, you can't blame tinubu for the rice. brain54: Religion is complex and a sensitive issue to many people...
Just because someone practices a different religion from yours doesn't make it diabolic. Imagine the guy asking her if it's Bible or Koran. So as it's not it makes it diabolical.
African traditions and religions have existed a long time before the arrival of the white man and his religion.
Except she was putting something directly into the food she was selling to the public then people should be free to practice their faith and believe systems and what works for them.
Last I checked there exists freedom of worship as enshrined in the constitution.
Except she is putting things directly into the food she sells then she should be left alone to practice what she believes.
No difference between her and another who sprays anointing oil/holy water in their shop or yet another who scribbles passages from a "holy book" mixes it with whatever and applies it to the shop with the same intent as the woman.

That is what labour should fight and come to terms with the government. The major one being fuel price. That skyrocketed many items. What should the government do and what time are they giving to take it back to previous price. Now labour caring less about that shows that any amount they are now requesting won't serve the needed purpose, it will only crumble the economy and creates hyperinflation because everybody will also wants a share. The government won't bother yo make things go down while the citizens who are now civil servants will double their fee. Gradually the economy will become useless and everything will go south. South Africa hourly minimum wage is 27 Rand. 1 Rand is N81 which amounts to N2,187 per hour. 8 hours daily gives you N17, 500 basically. You get more if you work longer. 17,500 in 20 working days is N350,000.
