The Nigerian Corporate Affairs Commission CAC plays a critical role in business registration and verification. Unfortunately, its services have drastically declined and this is creating serious problems for Nigerian companies both locally and internationally.

A major concern is the recent adjustment to the CAC public search platform. When company owners or third parties search for registered companies on the official public search portal, many valid companies do not appear at all. Even companies with proper registration and active status cannot be found.

This is deeply troubling. Business verification is essential for trust. Foreign partners, banks, investors and regulators rely on this portal to confirm that Nigerian companies are legitimate. When company information does not show up, it raises doubts, delays transactions and damages Nigeria’s business reputation globally.

What makes the situation worse is that CAC has provided no clear explanation for this failure. No public notice. No timeline for resolution. Businesses are left confused and exposed.

Anyone can try this themselves by searching their company on the CAC public search portal and seeing the result. In many cases, nothing appears.

This situation is unacceptable. A functional company registry is a basic requirement for economic growth and ease of doing business. The Nigerian government needs to intervene urgently, fix the platform, restore transparency and hold the responsible authorities accountable before more damage is done.
