If you do, everything else is irrelevant. “Under sentence” means you have not served your jail time, not paid your fine or not been killed if you were sentenced to death. Have you ever heard the legal term “completed his sentence”? When you are sentenced you have a burden to carry out either jail time fine etc. Until you serve your jail time or pay the fine, you are under the burden of the sentence…..hence the term “under sentence”. Once you serve your jail time or pay your fine you are no longer under the burden of the sentence..hence no longer under sentence! I tire for educated illiterates!
